¶ Intro / Opening
What's up guys, Trevor here with Ecommerce Paradise, and today I'm going to talk to you about niche sites and how to build one, how to kind of expand it without expanding too much, and kind of the sweet spot when it comes to niche sites.
¶ Introduction to Niche Sites
And specific niche high-ticket dropshipping stores where we sell expensive products and dropships directly from suppliers to customers, and we don't do any of the inventory or the fulfillment ourselves. So if you're curious about high-ticket dropshipping and how it works, you can get a free mini-course and niches list at ecommerceparadise.com slash mini-course, where I go over the in-depths about exactly how this business model works, how to make it successful, and stuff like that.
But this topic today is just going to be about exactly how you should model your niche site.
¶ Finding Your Sweet Spot
So what I found that works really really good is that you got to find kind of a sweet spot and it's not like a micro niche where you're just targeting one product category and it's not like a general site where you have tons of different categories but you're gonna have like maybe one general like one main category like let's say you want to build a site around like a wellness niche where you have like saunas ice baths things like that where people are going to have like a sort of
a spa experience so you wouldn't want to build a site like just around saunas and saunas alone because obviously it's probably not going to scale as much as you want it to and you wouldn't want to build a site where you have like saunas ice baths and also let's say like home gym equipment and let's say also like maybe something that just isn't really completely related hot tubs or you know, bathtubs and things like that. Steam showers, let's just say adding them to the same store.
And you can, but there's kind of a specific thing you should do if you do that. And that is that you should really focus your branding and your main categories on your site with all of your work, with all of your marketing work. And that's why you can't really go too far outside your core niche.
But you definitely want to find what I call a mid-niche, which is sort of like a grouping of several main categories that's kind of the best way to build one of these stores out so that's why i say wellness because when it comes down to it you're going to be offering saunas ice baths and a few things around that and you know if you build a site around that around that kind of idea of wellness and saunas and like you know.
Heating up and cooling off your body to stay healthy, then what you're going to do is you're going to have these core categories. And all of your marketing and your site is going to be based around those core categories. And suppliers are going to see that and they're going to like that. They're going to say, okay, this matches with our branding, with our category offering and things like that. Your suppliers that you get though, they might have products that are outside
of that. They might have more categories that they can offer you. And that might be tempting to add them to your site and to make more marketing materials to expand to make your site about more different categories. But you have to keep in mind is that when you do that, you dilute your marketing. And so what I would usually do is if you're going to build a site around that, just stick to that and then don't ever change that. Like keep your site based around those core categories.
And then when you add, if you're going to add more products and categories to your site beyond that, don't make them a big deal on your site. Just make them sort of like, okay, they're up in the menu, but they're not being featured on the homepage. You know, especially in the beginning when you first onboard them.
If they happen to become a bestseller, then you should definitely take a look at those categories and think, okay, maybe I should build a separate niche site just around those categories. But definitely don't make the whole main topic of your site different and definitely don't dilute the topic of your site.
¶ Maintaining Core Categories
Keep your site based around the main core niches that you start with. The branding of your site doesn't have to be super core niche specific. It could be a little bit broader, but definitely keep the categories in your site still specific don't go beyond that okay. Niche sites tend to convert better. They get better traffic and people see that it's a niche store and they often will, you know, in their mind psychologically think that it's a specialist store.
And specialty online retailers, people like them because they can offer better service. And so keep your store a specialty online retailer around that category and then add more categories to it. People sometimes do buy, you know, other categories and stuff like that. So you can have more products and categories on your store. Just don't make them a big deal. Make the main focus of your store based around your main core category and don't change that.
You're going to be telling the search engines what you're mainly about. You're going to be telling customers and potential customers and people that land on your website what your website's mainly about. And that's going to help you rank better, and that's going to help you get more traffic. And it's going to help you convert traffic. And just keeping a focus on your core categories is going to keep you niche, going to keep you specialty and all that.
¶ Avoiding Generalization
So when you start to get beyond that, that's when you can consider getting into multiple stores because you just don't want to make a store too broad. You don't want to make it too general. So just keep your store focused on a niche. Don't get beyond that. What I've done in many mistakes in the past is I've made stores too generalized. And you start to find out that what happens is the traffic gets diluted. People land on your site. They don't think you're specialty anymore and say
they don't buy from you. So what you have to do is you've got to keep to your core categories to be successful. And that just is what it is. There's plenty of opportunity in the niches. So riches are in the niches. Keep that in mind. So if you want to make money from this business model, you have to go niche and stay niche, but not too niche, just like kind of mid-niche.
