So when it comes to running a profitable store, one of the first things you should always look at every single day is how fast your website loads. And there's a bunch of different things that can affect that. Some of the biggest things that affect it are JavaScript code, loading apps on your store from other sources. And the other thing is multimedia. Multimedia can really make your website slow down.
So a couple of ways to fix these two major issues, which tend to always be the biggest issues, is to use some sort of an app or a developer to optimize the way your code is laid out on your website. All the JavaScript and things that pull things from other sources, like for instance a trusted site banner or an extended warranty banner or a plugin or whatever, those are going to pull from other sources. So it's going to take a second to load on your website.
So what you should do is put anything that takes longer to load below the rest of the code that loads faster, which is things that are on your website usually. And of course a developer can do this for you there's some apps that'll do it as well but I just recommend hiring a developer you can look on Fiverr, pretty cheap developers maybe 50 to 100 bucks at the most.
Probably less and yeah, you can get that squared away and whenever you add a new app consider hitting that developer up again and say, hey, I just added a new app I want to make sure it's not loading slowly can you please get in there and optimize the code, so that's the first thing you should definitely do. And kind of where I should have started actually is you can check how fast your website loads by going to Google PageSpeed Insights.
Just type that into Google PageSpeed Insights and it'll come up with a URL and domain and you can go in there and add your homepage, your collection pages, your product pages, whatever you happen to be looking at, your blog post page, something like that, and see how fast it loads. And you got to make sure it's loading fast on desktop and mobile. You want to have it in the 90s.
¶ Multimedia Impact on Loading
If it's below 90, then there's some issue that's causing it not to load fast enough. So definitely check into that. Okay, so one of the major things, that causes your website to load slowly is the multimedia. And in the past, what I've done is I've added images to product descriptions in sort of a layout, like a magazine layout. Images to the right of the paragraph, to the left of the paragraph. And I kind of watch it load slowly and consistently.
So the main thing is that these images can slow down the way your website loads really bad. So you have to be super careful with how you do that. And what I've decided recently, it's actually better not to add images into the product description, especially big ones. You can put all the images you want into the actual image carousel that's at the top of the product page that's built into Shopify. And throughout the product description, you can reference those images.
But I would just keep your description as text. And then you should definitely use an app like CrushPix to make sure that your normal images that are uploaded are minimized. So the size of the file is quite low, but you should still choose the option for lossless minimization so that your image still looks really high quality. It's just that the image file size is smaller so that it loads faster. Super simple. So that's another thing that's super important.
The other thing you consider is adding some sort of a lazy loading script to your website.
¶ Lazy Loading Techniques
Lazy load makes it so that especially if you have a really long homepage for instance with a bunch of images on it it's not going to load the entire page at once it's going to load the first part above the fold and then it's going to load as the user scrolls it will load the website so consider doing that, I would not do it on the product page just because on the product page you want the whole thing to load right away you don't want it to load as the user scrolls
but do it on the homepage or any other page that has a lot of images and you can't really change that or you don't want to change that So home page makes the most sense. Lazy loading can really help with that. So that's pretty much it, guys, actually. But for the main part of optimization, you can see all these different things in PageSpeed Insights. It'll tell you straight up, okay, this code, this code, this code, this code. You need to fix it. You need to move it. You need to change it.
You need to do whatever to it. And you might not understand it. If you're not a developer, you might not understand it. So definitely hire a developer. You know, Fiverr or whatever. I have a developer on staff, So if you need help and want my help, you can certainly reach out. I can make a custom package for you. I'll make it very affordable. ¶ Conversion Rate Importance
Conversion rate, this can make a huge difference to conversion rate. If you are working with a 0.5 or less conversion rate, just moving it up 0.1% can make a huge difference in your sales. For every 100 people you send to your website, a 1% conversion rate would mean that you're getting one order per day. So if you're getting 200, 300 traffic or more per day, you should be getting two or three sales a day.
And if you're not, then there's something going on. You know, tons of competition could be it, which means, you know, obviously higher discounts, you know, other people offering better offers, that kind of stuff. But just simply having your website load really fast oftentimes will get you the sale, you know, especially if you're up there in the Google shopping ads.
People don't really always want to search around forever. They just want to find a website that's good enough, especially if you're targeting an older demographic. Older people definitely, you know, they're not going to search around a ton. So if the first or second, whatever, you know, website they land on is good enough for them and loads fast and they understand it. And you answer the phone when they call or reply to their email right away,
that kind of thing, and you'll probably get the sale. So just fix these really foundational things. You know, I always look at business as like the 80-20 principle where like doing 20% of the work gets you 80% of the results. This is definitely going to be one of those 80-20 things. So focus on this, guys. It will definitely help you in the long run.
