Alan Wake is a writer, and he reminds you of that a lot. This is Remedy's third person shooter followup to the first two Max Payne games. It dabbles in horror without being terribly scary, and gets extremely metatextual at a time when that wasn't a huge thing in games. It worked at the time, and would probably work on a first playthrough, but we struggle to see through the game's unfortunate design flaws. Thanks to Vulpes for producing this episode!

If I was in a position to at the time, I would have just written "RPG" on a hunk of plastic and sold it in an N64 box. That would have made me a lot of money, given how horny and deprived the N64 audience was for anything role playing. How do I know this? Because Hybrid Heaven is looked on fondly by people who played it, and it doesn't deserve any benefit of the doubt.

It's as bad as you've heard. We wanted to cover something good after taking a dive on The Wizard last month, but a tragic miscommunication led to us covering Uwe Boll's House of the Dead instead. We're always shocked when terrible things live up to their terrible reputations, but believe us when we say this movie is preternaturally awful. It deserves all of the scorn it's gotten, and no claim of "it's all a joke!" will save it.

Our soundtrack series has brought us to Bloodborne, which is a real departure for the series. FromSoft brought in composers from across the globe, and from the movie industry, to give this game its signature sound, leaning more heavily on strings than any Souls game before it. Our problem? A lot of it feels pretty anonymous.

Silent Hill is one of our favorite horror series, and it's always pleasant to return to it. This episode has us looking at Shattered Memories, the Wii game developed by Climax and Sam Barlow (of "Her Story" fame). It upends a good number of traditions of the series, and ends up being a very different game than you might expect. The star is the psychological profiling system, but the game earns big consternation for separating puzzles and monsters. Support Watch Out for Fireballs!...

If we didn't cover this game for the show, I'd have gone my whole life without learning that Bionicles aren't just very boring, but also very racist. That may be too strong... let's say... uncomfortably racially coded. It's hyper-serious and cribs a lot of tribal iconography, which makes it the most 2000s thing imaginable. And we spend the whole episode trying to wrap our heads around it.
