[PREVIEW] Bonfireside Chat 126: Immortal: Unchained (Part 1)

This debut episode of Bonfireside Chat Rekindled looks at Immortal: Unchained , a 2018 soulslike shooter. Specifically, we talk about the generalities, including how it's similar to (and different from) Dark Souls. We then talk about the tutorial area, and the Scar of the Abyss. It's good to be back!

The Level 269: Picross, Mitochondria, and Despair

It's unfortunate that the aesthetics are attached to flat gameplay and story. It's a shame that it never fully explores its own mechanics, because the inventive boss fights show some high highs. Listen in to learn more, and hear some of that sweet music. Big thanks to Mike Suskie for backing us and requesting this episode! Support Wa...

Watch Out for Fireballs! 221: River City Ransom

Gary and Kole dig into this NES classic, and our first time covering a Kunio-Kun game. Alex's girlfriend has been kidnapped by Slick, so we have to punch, kick, and pipe our way across River City and its gangs. This is a fun game that's stymied a bit by antiquated progression mechanics, but it feels too damn good in your hands to hold that against it too much. Support Watch Out for Fireballs!

[PREVIEW] Exquisite Suffering 60: American Idol

It would be bad enough if we were talking about the PS2 version of the game based on American Idol ("Pop Idol" in Europe). Instead, we're talking about the GameBoy Advance version of this misguided rhythm game where nothing you do matters! And of course I included audio samples.

[PREVIEW] Bonfireside Chat Rekindled Announcement

You didn't expect to see this, and we didn't expect to write it: We're bringing back Bonfireside Chat. We ended the show because we ran out of Souls games, and because there wasn't much on the near horizon. Rather than forcing the show along with a format that didn't suit the games we were covering, it felt best to put it on ice. What's changed? We have a major game like Sekiro just around the corner. A ton of soulslikes have come out in the past year and a half. And the time away from the show ...
