The middle part of the 16-bit era brought us a lot of platformers that were pretty to look at, at the expense of fluidity of play. Garfield: Caught in the Act was a part of this wave, featuring very pretty sprites with fluid animation that really got in the way of moving that big ol' cat around. But that's not what we're here to talk about. We're here to talk about all of the biggest Garfield news, and to do a deep dive on the problematic founder of Garfield Eats.

Everything To Guppy is a bite-sized, four-times weekly comedy/gaming podcast in which Gary Butterfield (Watch Out For Fireballs) and William Hughes (The A.V. Club) attempt to analyze every single item, boss, character, and concept in the rogue-lite video game The Binding Of Isaac. They manage to pull it off only slightly less than 50 percent of the time.

This is our second rock band management sim this year, and it's by far the superior to "Rock Star Ate My Hamster". The drug fixation aside, this is a fun little Lemonade Stand sim that has a fair bit of complexity and some of the best procedurally generated names we've seen. Special Thanks to Beyond Reason for the theme song remix.

Doom 3 was a controversial game, but its only real sin is not being Doom 2 or Doom 2016. Released in 2004 and coinciding with an identity crisis at id Software, this is a retelling of the original Doom story, but with very different gameplay. It more closely resembles the spectacle corridor shooters that were popular at the time, inspired by the success of Half-Life. It's dark and spooky. The pace is more deliberate. These are all problems if what you want is the kind of twitch action you'd find...

If you die in the game, etc. etc. and so on. A wise man once warned me: If you die in the game, you die in real life. That man was someone speaking in a trailer for this movie, and that's why I've never died in a game. "Stay Alive" is a movie that not a lot of people remember, because it's very bad. Some young people discover an unreleased survival horror-ish game. The problem is, anyone who dies in the game is killed in a similar way by supernatural forces. So the friends must work together to ...

Mr. Bean is the world's favorite pre-verbal homunculus, blundering around like a Roomba and upsetting society ladies. Don't worry, we don't see Mr. Bean as an indictment of the British isles like, say, Little Britain. We just don't get him! And that probably has to do with not really being exposed to him at an age when Bean antics would have taken. What we can all agree on is that the PS2 game that bears Mr. Bean's name is just awful.

Hey everyone, they made Dark Souls III good! Okay, to be less flip about it, the Cinders mod fixes a good number of the gameplay issues we had with the base experience of Dark Souls III. Poise is fixed, build variety is better-honored, and things are a touch less linear. This is a herculean gameplay mechanics mod that adds a ton of items from elsewhere in the Soulsborne series, and we really recommend giving it a try if you're able.

October's horror game parade continues with Soma, a game that questions what makes us us. Simon is an unlucky guy. He gets a brain scan to help him with a terminal condition, and wakes up in a facility at the bottom of the ocean, eighty years in the future, after the world has ended. To make matters worse, a rogue AI is warping bodies and minds and seeking to re-assimilate anyone who's trying to escape. It's a survival tragedy game that asks loftier questions than most games ask and it's a suita...
