Tyler played AAA hockey but when he was 15 years old, while playing hockey he broke his leg. After surgery they found a growth behind his leg. At 16 years old he went through 8 months of chemotherapy and his left leg was amputated due to that growth, it was a diagnosis of Spindle cell sarcoma is a type of connective tissue cancer.
