I want to hear what it was like for you to get that phone call from Chris Career and Brian Flores. Oh man, it was it was amazing, Like I still got the stomachs just it was awesome. I'm Julia blessing. I'm very thankful from God, you know, because I was waiting for that call for a long time, and you know, close Florz and Um,

the whole staff gave me opportunity. So I'm extreaming blessing. Um, seriously, you thank those guys. Before we started recording this podcast, we heard Robert's draft party go off because heard the pick on TV. We already knew he was the pick here in Miami. But your whole you're you're gathering there went crazy. It was an awesome moment. Who's all there with you? Uh? Just my mom my, dad, I have a lot of simpler So all my brothers and sisters,

my girlfriend, and that's pretty much it. It's Marsha Mr Dan. So yeah, certainly keeping things close these days with the way the world is right now. But as far as the football field, what what are the Dolphins getting in Robert Hunt on the football field? Um, you know, I'm just excited to go down at work. But um, you know, they definitely getting the guy that can you know, play, play the game and play any position that coach need

me to play. You know, I'm open to any position called need me to play, you know, wherever you need to stick me. Um. So I gets to get a guy, a team player, a leader, something like that along those lines. Um you know, like I said, definitely ready to go compete and I'm super excited to get down. Well, you played some guard and tackle there at Louisiana LAFA yet and the one consistent thing you notice in your tape is the power the hammers for hands that you've got

moving guys Off the point. What's the best aspect of your games? Um, I don't even the tend point in the aspect. I think I do a lot of things. Well, um, you know I think I think I do a lot of things. Well, I think that you know, there's a tape place speace for yourself. But I think I do a lot of things where I can run block I they can pass well whatever pretty much. Well, I think this is probably a silly question to ask whatever. It probably silly to ask an offensive lineman this question. But

do you prefer run blocking or pass blocking? Oh? Like run blocking? So I'm super excited. That's that's my deal, just blowing guys off the football. Yes, sir, I have fun doing this. Um and then definitely that's a hot point in my game. Well, you're definitely gonna love coming to Miami and playing for Brian Florest teams. They're definitely very physical. What is your favorite run call? When you get into the huddle, you're sitting there, you hear the

play golf from the quarterback? What's the call that gets you the most juiced up? Like? What run blocking, Simon, do you like the most? Uh? I think honestly, I like the B block with Kevin Dowson. Me and Kevin Dawson went um, we went. We did things very well at the university. We do out left. Yet I'm su super excited for him. He should be getting a call soon. Um, but I think when I hear B block, I know, like we call it thirteen in our scheme. When I hear thirteen is a B block? Me and Kevin Dotson

lean on people. That's one of my that is one of the good moments in mind in my coast career. I was saying, what exactly does that mean? What is it? B block? People? I can just a double teen the combo on the back side. Well, you got some teammates in Miami, you can backside. You can get those combo blocks going together, whether it's pulling in space or working in a phone booth. Man looking forward to having you? How much are you looking forward to blocking for Ryan

Fitzpatrick and two a tongue of Vala in Miami. Oh man, how's gonna be crazy. That's gonna be crazy. I'm super excited. Uh, I think I think we're about to do great things. In mind, I'm super excited. Um, I came to like play words into my mouth right now. I'm super excited. It's gonna be a great time in Miami. And I think we're definitely coming to win. We already got winning culture coming from coach Florence. You know, so we're definitely definitely,

I'm definitely ready to compete, ready, ready to compete. And we already have good guys already drafting. We're gonna draft play more guys. Is really good. So I'm super excited. Are you ready for that South Florida heat? I'm ready for anything. Whatever it is. I've been in Louisiana for five years. It is what it is. I knew it was a little bit similar. How to ask you though, because those training camps, you're gonna you're gonna learn the

sweat pretty good down there in South Florida. Man. But when it comes to being off the football field, Yeah, what's your favorite thing to do away from the football field? Like, where can we find Robert Hunt on his days off? Uh? Yeah, I like the fish. I also like to put my video game. UM like to eat too, So you know, we have my girlfriend. We all always like to try new spots. So a Miami, we have a couple of spots to try to Gotta make sure I'll maintain well,

you know, all that kind of good stuff. But I'll be followed all of that. What's your favorite food? Man? Yeah, that's kind of hard. I like a lot of like ribs, I like sushi. Um, I'm go to love stuff in Miami. So like I'm not Miami, but I'm smart speaking like I'm in stef Louisiana, like red beans and rice and rice dress and stuff like that. So I love a lot of things. Okay, I gotta ask you one more question because you said video games. Well, a lot of the guys on the team love playing Call of Duty

and two K, what's your go to game? Okay? Two K? Alright, Okay, you're gonna you're gonna have some guys that are gonna want to compete against you in that. Just let you know. So on the football field, on the two K on the sticks man, we're looking forward to having you, dude. Congrats and welcome to Miami. Yes, sir, thank you so much.

And there he goes. New Dolphins offensive lineman Robert Hunt, the thirty ninth pick in this year's NFL Draft to the Miami Dolphins, really fortifying the offensive line up front. We have now gotten Eric Flowers, Ted care Risk, Austin Jackson, and Robert Hunt added to the wall of protection in front of Ryan Fitzpatrick and to a tongue of bloa

and speaking of fortifying the trenches. On the other side of the football, the Dolphins, with the fifty six pick in the NFL Draft, select Alabama defensive lineman ray Kwon Davis. And let's go ahead and now and meet your newest Dolphins defensive lineman. Here he is ray Kwon Davis, and joining me now on the Drivetime podcast is the Dolphins second round draft pick number fifty six overall out of Alabama. He is ray Kwon Davis. Ray Kwan, congrats and welcome

to Miami. Man, Thank you, thank you family. We're thrilled to have you down here. I want to ask you got that phone call a little bit ago from Brian Flores and Chris Queer. How did that call go? Oh? Man, it was just I mean, I can't even destrive it. It It was just amazing. It's it's a blessing. I mean, I didn't know who I was gonna get picked by. I didn't I didn't know, I didn't know nothing. So it was just, oh God, I I mean, I mean,

it was a blessing. Dog. Well, now your emotions can kind of come into check and you can celebrate the rest of the the night your draft pick here with the Miami Dolphins. When you get to Miami and you get on the football field, what are the Dolphins getting and you as a player, They're getting the hard worker, they get somebody with a high motor, they gainst somebody just an elite player that's all over. They get somebody that's gonna uplift the team that's gonna help the team to

the best in his ability. And when I watch your tape break on and you can do multiple things very well, whether it's one gapping or two gapping, do you take a lot of pride in that versatility? And what do you think is the best part of your game? Um rest stopping the collational pockets, getting the quarterback off the spot. What do you think is the key to your ability to kind of stand guys up in the two gaps scheme on my long arm and I'm just so strong

strong arms. Long arms definitely helps in that particular spot. As far as a pass rusher, where's your favorite spot to rush from? UM three zero and it doesn't matter all over and which spots, which spots do you think give you the most advantages? As far as like running different games across the defensive line. Um, Um, just the same three to zero, five and four. Ray Kwan Davis, your second round draft pick. He can do it all. Ray Kwan, you're coming here. You're not the first player

from Alabama we selected this year. What do you think about joining your quarterback to a tongue of bye lower here in Miami? Man, it's it's the best thing you can you can ever think of. Um, when nobody think you'll be playing another couple of years with your quarterbacks, I mean, it's a blessing. It is crazy. I got Ryan Fitzpatrick and to a tongue of bye lower here in Miami, and you're gonna be coming down here and join both those guys when you have a day off,

Ray Kuan, what do you do for fun? Like? What's what? Where can we find you when you when you're not playing football? Um? I love fishing. I love fishing, I love outdoors. I love We just talked to your teammate, Robert Hunt, the offensive lineman from Louisiana LAFA. Yet he said the exact same things. Maybe you guys can find a fishing boat and get out there. It's gonna be little bit different in South Florida, though, the ocean. It's

a little bit of a different game. You ever been deep sea fishing before, and yes, sir, but I've never been the keep before. Oh, you can definitely have to come try it out down here. Well, Rake one, We're thrilled to have you. Man, excited about getting you in Miami and congratulations once again, thank you. And so there he goes your new interior defensive lineman. Although he can play all across the defensive line penetrate one gapping style,

he can stand guys up in two gaps. You heard him talk about the length and the strength he offers there. So the Dolphins get another Crimson Tide Alabama product and ray Kwon Davis all the physical traits in the world. Can't wait to see him get down to South Florida and get to work. And now, with the seventie pick in the two thousand twenty NFL Draft, the Dolphins select

Texas safety Brandon Jones. Here is my interview with the Dolphins new safety Brandon Jones and joining us now on the Drivetime podcast as the Dolphins third round draft choice this year, the safety out of Texas, Brandon Jones. Brandon, congrats and welcome to Miami. Man, I'm excited. Man, thank you so much. I gotta ask you. But get these phone calls every year, it's always fun to watch the GM, the head coach, Floras and career. How did your phone

call go? Man? It was it went crazy, To be honest, I actually went upstairs just to use the restaurant. Was walking downstairs and got a phone call and I was like, no way, Like picked it up, answered it, talked to the coaches. I really couldn't hear. My family was all screaming, screaming and stuff, but I was sweet. So it's to be To be honest, I was shocked, but I'm just so happy and so grateful and thankful. Well, the good things always seem to come at the least expected time.

So that's just fitting like that that your draft day went like that. Here in real life, as far as on the field goes, what are the Dolphins getting and Brandon Jones? They're gonna get a guy that is has a high motor, that's very super competitive, that's gonna go hundred and timbercent no matter what, and a guy that's a firm believer in growth. And I'm gonna be the best version of me and I'm very coachable obviously, whatever the coaches need me to do, from playing nickel to

playing house safety. You know, I just want to be able to contribute, to be at a very very well good and world team player. And at the end of the day, I'm I'm for the team. You know, it's

not about me, It's about us, and it's about getting wins. Well, my next question for your Brandon was we talk a lot about versatility down here in South Florida, and you mentioned it right off the top, their deep safety, playing the nickel boundary field doesn't really matter what position you play, But can you tell us what your best overall trade is, Man, I think my best trade, honestly is just being around

the ball. To be honest, with my skill set, um, I was, you know, able to do a lot, being able to hold a lot receivers, cover tight ends, playing in the box, kind of whatever I needed to do, you know, to be successful. And you know, the University of Texans put me in a good spot, so utilize my skill set. So I'm very comfortable with anywhere on

the field. To be honest, obviously I'm not the biggest guy on the field, but I really enjoy being in the box, rolling down just being competitive, Like how competitive I am? I love the one on one matchups. I love just being competitive and being myself at the end of the day. Another thing we talked about down here in South Florida is four down players, guys that can play special teams. We read on your scouting report that's

one of the things you love to do. How how is it for a defensive back like yourself in terms of taking pride and special teams? Like where does that come from? And special teams is just as important, you know, and a lot of people discount that don't realize how important it is. But you know, field position is huge, and uh, you know where you get the ball, where your offense starts, where your defense starts. Really can you know, win and lose games at the end of the day?

And um, at all times, you want your best players on the field, whether it is you know, a guy that's been starting for a long time, but you know, it really doesn't matter at the end of the day. You want your best guys on the field. You want your guys that are gonna basically can do whatever you need them to do at the end of the day.

And I've you know, had experience through all special teams, so it's been UM, I'm very thankful for that, just being able to be able to be in situations, UM, just to be myself and play at a high level. We have new Dolphins safety Brandon Jones from Texas here

on the Drivetime podcast. And Brandon, we just before you came on the podcast, we had you watch your your name come across the screen, a special moment for you for sure, and then ESPN rolled the segment that talked about your request to get every team's binder and plays this offseason. I'm curious to ask you what brought up that decision and how did teams respond to that request. Now, I just really wanted to I'm always looking for growth.

I'm a firm believer in growth, whether it's physically or mentally. And just um the pointed time, UM during this process for me, UM, the mental side of the game is something I really wanted to grow and get an edge on a lot of guys. So I took it upon myself to ask my agent to give me as much film as you can, and I'm gonna put it put

together a binder. You know, I'm gonna watch as most as much games as I can for all NFL teams and just get to know the defense, you know, dive down deep, UM and just and just really dissect the defense. And I think it really helped me a lot because I'm very familiar and I understood a lot that was going on UM. And I realized, UM as I got older in college, how important film watching was. And I think the mental side of the game is something that's going to carry you a lot further than than the

physical side of it. Gonna join Brian Flora's, Josh Bowyer, and Gerald Alexander, your head coach, defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. I'm curious to ask you, what did you learn in those studies this offseason? You know, it took me eight weeks to do UM at the top of my head. I really I couldn't tell you because I literally just watched every single team, So it's kind of hard to tell. I know I would pull it off. I had it with me. I don't have it here

with you. Don't stress on stress. I just was curious. I just I thought it was a great question. But no, I understand it's it's a it's a very unique thing to do, so we we love hearing that. But I do want to talk to you about going back to Texas last year because on your scouting report Lands Airline Rights that you received a positive draft grade that you were happy with, but it was important to you to

return back to Texas to pursue a championship. Talk talk us through how important it is to you to be a part of a winner like that. It's huge. You know, I haven't in high school. Throughout high school and my first year at Texas, I haven't been a part of a winning team. So that's definitely something that I wanted to do. Um I've always been a guy that led by example, and I really wanted to be more vocal

leader and kind of embraced being uncomfortable. So I took it upon myself, you know, being a coming back, being a senior, really trying to to win over my teammates. To be a team captain was huge to me, and Um, I just had a lot of things that I wanted to impize the game mentally and physically, and being it

was one of them. So I made sure that I got guys together, you know, all the freshmen, got everybody lined up when they need to be lined up and kind of I don't just really embrace that, you know. And um, obviously with my injuries, I wasn't able to put a full season together. So that was really big to me, just to prove the teams that, you know, I am capable of doing this. I am capable of

going to full season without getting hurt. And that's about it. Well, we have some definite dudes down here in Miami and the second dereth Byron Jones, Xavian Howard, Bobby McCain, Eric Rowe. How excited you to join that group of players? I know them, Yeah, I definitely know of them. Um, I'm very excited obviously, Um, just to be with those guys and Lynn learn. I'm a huge, huge believer in learning and um, like I said, I'm firm believer in growth

as well. So I can't wait to you know, those guys take me another wing and just you know, teach me the ropes. Obviously, I'm a very coachable when it comes to coaches or you know, the the guys ahead of me that have had experience in the league and really know the kind of the rope. So I'm really excited to get behind them and just and just learn. All right, Brandon, last question for you here coming down to South Florida. You're gonna have off days every now

and then. Of course, I know you want to put the work in, But when you do get an off day, what does Brandon Jones do for fun? Man? So, I'm I'm not here in the country, so I'm pretty boring for the most part. To be honest, I like to just hang out with my friends watching Netflix, Ben's TV shows, do something like that. I'm pretty boring guy for the most part. I'm not playing football. What have you been watching lately? So? I just got on Good Girls. Good Girls is a really good show. UM we found I

just found out the season three is on UM. I think it's on CBS or NBC. NBC. I think, so I've been I've been watching that. UM I finished All Americans, probably one of my favorite TV shows that's out right now. But yeah, I'm definitely, especially during these times, I'm trying to find the TV shows and some good movies to watch. I'm surprised you didn't say Tiger King. Everyone's watching that. Yeah, Tirey King. It was good. It was just I don't know the last episode that he made, which was like

basically like interviews. I was really expecting more so I was kind of disappointed, you know when that when that came out. Yeah, me too. I was expecting to get like some more inside footage of the farm and stuff for the or the zoo there. But hey, nonetheless, Fen, then we're happy to have you here in Miami. Man. Congratulations once again and enjoy your night. Thank you so much.
