And his Drink Chas motherfucking podcast. He's a legendary Queen's rappers. He's agree that's your boy in O R. He's a Miami hippoper lioneer. One up is d j e FN. Together they drinking up with some of the biggest players, I mean, in the most professional, unprofessional podcast and yet number one sorts for drunk back Mother is New Year's z Just time for Drink Champs trick up Mother, Mother. Wouldn't good be hoping he shoot me? This is your boy? And oh what up is d J e F And

this is motherfucking tape? Crazy War podcast, motherfucking Drink Champs Happy hour type of crazy ship make And right now, when you talk about the death finition of CEO, when you talk about a person who stood by hip hop and put it on the likes of people in your favorite acts like boot Tank Clan, Big Punt Uh Dead Prazu marb Deep Uh. These are people that you probably wouldn't even You probably wouldn't even know if this guy, you know, gave Fact Joe a great opportunity. This guy

is out here and he's still out here. He's dated some of the most beautiful women in the world. So we're gonna get into that. We also already had the keys to a Vegas Strip club by himself in a beautiful way. He look, he's blushing. That's a beautiful way this guy has been doing. You know, I've been out in this music industry. Has Kevin Industree team invented the

street Team? He invented it. If you look at the Woot Tank Clan documentary, so I think is one of the ghost uh greatest beautiful list documentary, you can see him in there. He actually has hair phenomenal here too, he looked like the fawns. If you don't know, I'm talking about talking about my good friend Steve motherfucking Now, that is a debate. That is a hip hop debate, Right,

who invented the Street Team? Okay? But if you remember, okay, when we did drink Champs in l A in my office and what Puff said, Okay, I've got I've got there. There was someone's going on that. What did he say? He did them? Yeah? He did? What is trying to say that he no, no, he never you know, he never mean Me and p were always close. I mean, but how did you develop even that? Right, Steve because at the time hip hop was just it was like billboard,

uh driven and things of that nature. How did you say, you know what, I'm getting a crew and you know, because like it's basically like likes something was It was more than that. I was really dyslexic as a kid. We're all dyslexic. So you know where all Jews go when they get They moved down to Miami. So my grandparents moved to Miami and my grandfather called. My grandfather called me and he said, um, you gotta get your ship together. You gonna end up better, you gonna end

up in jail. He goes, why don't you go work with your dad? So my dad had a label called Spring Records, So that was Fat Back Band who put out the first hip hoper record, Billie Jackson, Joe Simon and James and James Brown and James Brown through polygraph Yes. So he sent me on the road when I was eighteen years old. I didn't go to college, so I'm visiting radio stations and visiting people my age now, and I was like, what the fund do I want to hang out with a fifty year old? So I ended

up going back to the college. So I knew what an intern was, you know, where I would be like, I'm just gonna send you some records. You know, nobody was making really T shirts at the time. There was no really postal boards, there wasn't any of that, and I just saw so I started zigzagging across the country

and I just put a network of people together. So and that's how it really is, just the precursor of like street teams and reached this is so you know, then my dad gave Russell his first deal, yeah, at Spring with a record called Dollar Billio by Jimmy Spicer.

So I kept on just they just kept me on the road and I just started networking and just meeting like all these colds you said, they keep you want to go about like artists only two months label, well the label was really my dad's label, but I really wasn't working for him. He was just trying to see if I had any heart and any balls to do this. And you know, look at that difficult There was no GPS. You would have to take out a map and just figure out how you gonna get from Atlanta to Alabama.

And just like the paper, no cell phones, so you'd have to walk around. You know, every night I left, it would be like ten dollars worth of Cortis and just so okay. So when it was when was it with the point where you said, this is a street team like like this this is that was because most other labels hiring you to do that. This was something he was doing. So the marketing company I had before there was Loud, there was a Stephen Rifkin Company, right,

so that was the mark. Yeah, I thought was after Loud it just tace. That was the second record with So Stephen Rifkin Company was an independent promotion company, right. So I moved Metachick moved out to a hooked up with a company called The Delicious. Final they had yet to Young City, so new Heavies were on, did the whole campaign for all these records, and it was just

now putting the street team together. They moved, They moved, and I really always wanted to have my own company because I was like, you know, I'm going to keep your guys office. So I think I had three thousand dollars to my name, and I made brochures and I was going to New York for um my cousin's wedding and I sent um all the broshures that have to all the different labels, and I came back with a

hundred dollars worth of business. Yeah, like I said, I put I sent every record company and I just said, this is what we're gonna handle. We're gonna handle B Team, gonna handle empty pe, We're gonna handle college radio. We're gonna handle mixshow radio. And it was never about and it was never about mainstream radio and not coming with you, I mean with the mix show power Summers came from but like because like that was that came from her name, but that came like in the midnight and that and

that was after how can I Be Down? To how can I Be down? Sort of inspiring all that though, Okay, what was Jack the Rapper was the first one? The original? That the original? So it's Jack the Rapper, Then it's what thenn it's how can I do that? Then it's but there was a convention that I want to the college radio the Gavin Report. But my dad took me to a convention when I was eighteen years old. I mean it was just was in Miami and they took him that hotel. It was called the Non Convention and

it was mostly your sales convention. It just happened right now. But the pushy there was like holy shi the pussy was we weren't ready. I mean, it was just ridiculous. I was like, Wow, I think I really want to be in this Recordnisse and this is so boom. Now you developed the street team, now Loud, I know, I'm bouncing around that. Let's just just go because this was this was like quit assentially, like if you were you know, from an artist that just wanted to stay, an artist

that was known that. Now lets you do what the fun you have? Did you want to do? But I gotta be honest with you. It started with Woultang Klan. I can remember me seeing Protect your Neck for the first time, and I'm like, no one cares about these people. Like that was like definitely like so like what what what? What was it? What was it like meeting? I know we spoken who were the first artists signed the remember

seeing a Twister? Twister was the first artist and then shortly after so it was Twister was a group out of l A called Mad Cat that had caught a nice little buzz. Now then the Lips and this is your time in l A. That's inspiring. These last started in l A. So that's why, because you're you're you're coming out of New York at some point and it's you're signing these underground l A artists exactly the Licks exhibit, all these guys. So exhibit was after it was the Licks.

And then I was in New York to my thirty first birthday and Rizzards just showed up after me trying to reach him for three weeks and he was m rocking. He was Prince Christop. So he comes up. I'm in an office no bigger than this, no bigger than this table, and I was with these swift from the alcoholics, and he goes, do you mind if I bring the guys up? He's shipping alcoholis the same No, Rizzi is saying that, So the whole, the whole plan comes up office was

the size of this table. They put the record on, they stopped performing. Is a protecting that it was protecting that some guy comes running through the office And to this day, I don't know if I was set up by Rizzo or the guy really worked. And he says, that's that ships that I've never seen him again, because this is That's what I don't want to know for you.

Right at the time, you're a hip hop fan, all right, and everything in hip hop, right if you was to bring even component or people will compare us to markti Uh, he was a great repair. You know. It's it's you know they grant there that you rock him. Na, that's rock him at the time when it's nine motherfucker's there is not one fucking thing that you can compare them too. So did that? Did that? Did that frustrate you? Didn't because it seemed it wasn't intimidating either. So many people

just don't forget. I never considered myself and our guy, right, I always consider myself a promotion guy. I mean that that's what I came first. So before there was research, there was right, I had the street chinga. So my guy in Detroit is calling my a and our guy on the West coast. This record is blowing the funk up like white They white labeled it prior to they were doing their own thing, one of the original records. I never knew that they that original video was doing

doing it. Yeah, oh, never doing college college. I'm thinking, I'm thinking when I first saw that, I was there's no record label that they loved him. Man like you about my first time seeing it, because you know you have all this get William videos at the time. Later we hype his first video. Wait a minute, did we just go there? No? No, no open right now? How many bottles are you opening? They just wanted to take this back to the I'm sure I'll let you get

it again. Come on, may go still they goddamn well, I can't hold on. You gave hypeers first. I'm almost positive. Okay, I mean this is this, No, this is kind of be also simple with with three and goest. I didn't even realize that was like Canada. It's so simple, I can't sing. Let me finish that. So okay, because we bounced all around me meet businesses. It's nine of us, because it wasn't tim at first, I was eight. It was everybody but Kappa was away. It was away. Okay,

so you meet these guys. How was the first time me hold dirty Bastard? I mean, every time I see old dirty bast he was digging up his nose a switter like every time. I've never really I don't I think I've getting dating bastard or five. Like I've met dirty bast like like forty five times in my life and I'm probably getting a real five like twice because I've always been like, yeah, come on, he's just always he's just always a foul character around me with me at a heart of goal, Like, I mean, I was

like big bro to him. I mean it was weird. I mean it's never had one ounce, you know, like the day that they ran, when he ran on the stage in the Grammys when he said thanks for the children. I lived across the street and I already knew that we lost, like you know, we got the call and he's like, well, how came you not going? I said, we already lost. Man. He goes, I just put this two thousand dollar suit, this, that, so on so on. So after he jumps on stead what did it lose to?

Lauren Hill has google um When he goes on stage, he takes you know, the trophy, He comes to my house, knocks on the door. It was like, how do I do? H That was like hip hop's first vibral moment because that was like you would do that all the time I saw him, and how can I do? Where it was? I think Capleton was performing. Were you there when he jumped on stage and he did some crazy stuff and it was he like interrupted the whole show. I'll tell you a story. We were doing a performance at Gabin,

New Orleans. So, um, we're flying there, I'm with my wife was pregnant with that first child, and I feel like you're private. I feel like you're private. I feel like he was like the first dude I knew frying private plane. Get back, took back to that. Let's make some yeah, said pirate plane. He places you taking private planes like it was like it was like changing drawers. I'm not gonna live with they don't there loud boys, but this was commercial. So I hear dirty, but as

the first of my food. First class was the first first class taken that that I paid for him. So we're sitting in first class and I heard dirty, and he goes to his seat and I don't know what happened, but he starts going off okay, and then the flight attendant comes to me. They said, um, Mr Jones, his last name was Jones, is requesting to see you. And he's not the first class. He's on electric budget at the time. Um, so I go, I have to talk to him, and he just you know, I had a

feeling about the plane. So I was like, ship, maybe, then let's if you're having this feeling, I'm not gonna take and cancel. Let's get the fun up. He goes, you're really gonna get off with me. I'm like here, he goes, now, then we're good. Like as long as I know that we're wait together, we're going down again. I'm like, I'm like, I'm like show and he's like, yeah, I'm positive. Right, I'm panicking the whole fucking flight. One

middle fucking bump. I'm just like, right, so and he's at like a light sleeping and like before hours, you know, my hands are like so, so I guess what I'm trying to ask you, right, is this is like probably the biggest gamble, right because having a nine people, I'm like, having a four man group is just one man group. So because because I imagined in the beginning they all had one manager, I managed magetting, they all just listened to reason, I imagine you can you can refute this.

This is just me being a fans. I really was too young. I'm like a couple of years later, but I imagine, but when I see it. Let's look at the documentary. What was my was a brother name? I can't imagine that it was when it was all pieces and cream. But when is the moment where you saying to myself, when you say to yourself, holy sh it, I got we're going to be considered the new rock stars and they're fucking signed to me, Like, when does

that moment hit you? It never really come on, Steve No, I mean I was just you know, I found out we went gold the day you got Sun got shot damn um and this is the first album, just the first Alba yeah, and all you know, my brothers with me, who was my partner and God blesses, God bless um. So it was like I never really thought it. To me, was just always was. I always felt we were the underdog. So to me, it was just always taking it to the next eleven. So if we went to gold, have

we get the platinum? Everything like that. So let me ask you, when you say it's great what you just said, it felt like he was the underdog. I have to ask, well, underdog compared to like puff Daddy, what they had going on, def Jam or was it in this universal we were

at BMG at the time. But when I'm saying me really just because I didn't know how to read the right So I was twelve thirteen years old, you know, my DELEXI me getting in trouble was like my family always looked at me like, oh, he's you know, the crazy one. Just that you know, my brother went to school. I didn't go to school. He had a real job, you know, he worked at Electric Records. He was the youngest national promotion guy. So I'm talking about God. It

was his name again, Jonathan, Jonathan Johnson. We have a whole lout sh but continued. So I just always felt that was the end dog And it was like I never at I thought I was never in competition with Puff. I never wanted to, you know, Puff was Did you have a criteria when you were looking at these artists, like you wanted something for you that you liked or something that you thought was going to resonate? Were like

great questions, That's an amazing question. So with woud Tang, I have a corny saying the streets don't buy right. So my feedback from the Street team was just giving me that information that I just knew we had something when mob Deep came up to the office, I mean

proud of you. Wasn't there, but it was happening. And just Twin Twin you know that that that HEP crew and they created Ruckus from the second we had the first meeting, and I was like, you know what, this is the perfect follow up to what I'm going to

tell you. The energy people want to tell you as a person that was living in the streets, like after Woutang, like I'm going to tell you to be honest, this is no one really thought Would Tang was going on like not only get signed, but when because it's a difference to us in the hood getting signed, we thought we won that ship meant nothing. Getting sign was one part of it. You have to actually go out there

and make some amazing records and things like that. But when Wu Tang and the fact that you know, you would always see these artists like they'll they'll come out and they'll get a little success and then they'll get polished and then they have something, well Wou Tang, it was like it didn't matter like if one of them were Hollywood, like if a method man wore another pants or something, it would be like you knew ghost Face would say something about it, like why are you doing that?

Like they all kept each other balanced. And this was the first time that I've seen hip hop like developed from star from just being startled and too mega startup where these guys were in Japan and Itchy Bomb and Kolniki Way and ship like that, and like you know what I'm saying, like like this this is I'm wondering. Like you, you didn't sit back and just was like, Wow, I didn't have time. Wow I didn't have to. There

was Land. There was still the marketing company. So at that time, wo I was still promoting pretty much every hip I break it into business. You're still working for other labels. Yeah, so SRC is still a functioning comp as a street team or one of the marketing street team and consulting the labels. So Leo calls in him has to be mad at ship that you come on. Doesn't want to help me get out of here? No, I was just playing around. I want to know, let's get out of here, because I think I think you

might have scared him up. I think you do you think I mean we just I mean, I guess did I go back and for us? Since some sixteen years old. Right. But Leo on the other hand, to me, oh man, I'm sorry, I didn't I didn't expect to hear this. Yeah, So when was the when was the moment you and Leo you think fell out? We never really fell out, you know, but when I realized, like this is really a business, that it's that it's not love. And when he tried to stay flex Okay, that's right, from flexes

down UM sixty minutes of funk, right. Oh, and Leo came in trying to snap and snoop them. Okay, it makes sense, makes sense. They don't play that ship. You guys, two guys did not play that, can you When it comes to that? So what what what? What is that? From CEO to CEO? UM Okay, hit us out though, you set up Leo to to have one of the biggest acts ever because when you signed Loud, I think that UM still to this day is one of the

most genius hip hop deals ever. Because I'm sorry, I'm thank you, thank you, thank you when you sound lu tang still but you allowed them to go out and and method Man was the first one that was signed to Deathcap. Actually Dirty was the first one signed to the lest your first My history is fucking getting fun off snipped off? How close was it to the Deally y'all did? Wasn't it like time? No, it was maybe a month before because I thought pain, I thought bringing

the pain. But Beth came, Meth came out of the action that broke out came first off again he had the NBT or TRAG record, right, so that which was a wood Tank record, right, so that jump started his solo career right. Then we came with Cream right, so that was Ray Go, I mean Ray Deck and Math on the hooking up. So and that record just death Cam signed them from there or Deathcam signed from the NBT record. Let me so, let me ask you, Ann known bouncing all over the place. Did they have to

come to you for Clarence? No? So our deal was don't get start off as a single deal, the whole plan, the whole plan. Start up as a single deal. This is how many singles, just one singles, just one single, and if it hit a certain plateau about him turned into an app. Okay, So within the first week we did the first week, right, So our copies not the ship that they're doing now. So automatic I think goes

into goes into the album Leland Russell Mass. I think it was a buck semi five, which was in those days like five million dollars and the open. Yeah, there was no I mean, as much as I wanted to match it, there was no way I couldn't match it at the time. At the time so Um and he wanted to be at depth Cham anyway. So I was like, you know what the talking bad. So in the late eighties,

I was managing New Edition for a minute. Oh ship Mike so Um and Ralph was wanting to leave the group and everything and yeah, and that's why Johnny came in. So I was like, the group will always be bigger than the solo besides my besides Michael. So I was like, all right, you know, and to me it was about survival, right. I didn't consider myself. I didn't have an A and our staff yet. I had one guy in l A. I didn't have Maddie or Free yet or anything like that.

So it was like, so you didn't have to sign off the math it was basically, but he did. He came to you as an adverse. They know they had to end the deal. We had first, right, Okay, first, Yeah, that's what I was getting there. So that's um, you have regretted that you haven't regretted like I mean, there's a lot of things I say, wouldn't have paid for it, you know. Um, I mean when Jane Day came, we

get into that. Yeah, let's right now. So I mean I had a report to our c A. So we came out into blue your distribution be we we came out of a blue people based in l A. I was creat creating, having you know, I was spontify fucking nuts, right, I had a temper everything else like that, so I wasn't allowing um our say to shoot on us, you know.

And then we got lucky. There was a guy who after he turned into a brother rows got the name of Mojo Nicosia, who was a promotion guy at our c A. And we just brought him into our family. And you know, this this guy Jesse, he stayed at our CIA and just busted his ass and he went on a van and he zigzagged across the country with the group on our CIA Stein you know that, you know, and then you know he got hit by a truck

helping promote, you know, promoting our stuff. So and it was like when he got yeah, when he um, when he was halfway healed, I said, funk, you're coming with us, you know. And then him and my brother and then there's Rich Isaacson. They literally ran the company. Um so they literally you know, round the company, Johnson Mojo around

the whole streets and radio Rich rand the company. And it was really you know, the four of us that just you know, and then we brought in Maddie and then we brought in Free as already and our guys and you know as Loud had a motherfucking run man, Holy block. The movie. I mean it defined like the classic era that people talk about in like the early to mid nineties of hip hop that allowed to me

to find it. Yeah. Now, okay, Boom the Clan drops thirty six shapes, right you know you you know you got you know, you got the new Mega Stars, right Boom, But no Method Man Um and Method Man is at death, jam Old b is at electric exactly. Yeah, Boom, but didn't you come out with another classic? But before that, okay, I'm trying to sign Mike drown him wow before Mark, this is okay, this is right around Oh yeah, at

the same time. So I meet her, okay, and we couldn't get this fucking sample quit for I forget the name of the single, but you know, but what it his first single one, right, So we couldn't get the sample cleard and and I actually said, just don't waste your time, and it's just focused on whoo and just and shook. One's starting to bubble. Oh yeah, that was that was a great But I don't know, but if if we did the deal with her, you would have

got J baby a lot of DM DMX. I mean, it would have been it would have been a game changer. It would it would have been a whole different start. And they went to t VT with Steve Gottlieb like Gerano, Wow, So who do you think it's crazier O d V or DMX. I managed DMX. Now that's what I got. I mean, I don't look at it as crazy. I mean I look at it as just passionate, just genius

they both. I mean, I mean I wish and I told me like I would have loved to hurt a conversation between the two of them of love that too. But you got ten minutes to get one artist across the street ten minutes, right, and I just missed just for the rack of and you're gonna make ten million dollars. So you got old and I'm left and you got damn not tying buck. They're both engaged in having fun

as it ticks around and like that. But there's one person you gotta get across, just between the two of them, between the twur the I would have probably had to go with Dirty. I mean, he was already easy. So you're saying Dirty is easier to work with the GMx. No, I'm not saying that. I'm not saying that. Well, I'm saying because he was already in the group, so it's kind of like a team player already. I mean it was just like I already had that relationship with them,

So it's easy. Okay, it's easy. Okay, Because let me just tell you something, Steve. You've worked with Pun Pun Pun, you worked with Faginal, you worked with some of the wildest boys, like you know what I mean, dead Press exhibit, Oh my god, alcoholics. They're still crazy to this day. Yeah. Like, there's there's people that people won't even be around, and you just did great this six do six Monthfia just

had DJ um. Yeah, so like, um, like you talk the business with hip hops elite but also hip hop's elite crazies. I was crazy, goddamn make some noise. So um, you andle are getting back to that for a second, right nearly or cool. It's just you know, there's there's but you know you're is about We are in his team and you know what. I respect, But it's like fun everybody else, right, I respect that. Yeah, not as concerts. You're doing. This is the second one of this is

the first is the first one. It's the first one because you do so we're gonna do We were gonna do it at the Predential Center in New York, in New York, Okay, And my heart really was like my dream was always Radio City. So um when Radio City came available, Wow, congratulations I pulled it from the Predential Center. Mhmm. You're coming right, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm definitely gonna try to make it happy. We need Yeah, listen, man, I think I think, for for one, I think that this

is so important. I think that you're setting another trend the same way you did with the street teams, the same street team, the same way you did with Loud the same way you did with in the If out the Box thinking with signing people like I think this is it as well. I commended because the thing is

your legacy is so rich like Loud um um. I I feel sorry for sometimes for this generation when I look at this generation and they don't have powerhouse like Alloud, and they don't have that rich history where you know, back then being from the hood and going to a

record label, it was like going to paradise. Like even though like you're still in Chinatown or some ship, you know what I'm saying, You're not like lug of your part of the city, but just being out of the city and just I mean being out of the hood and just opportunity to being an opportunity to being able to sit down and smoke weed and get a haircut

at the record label. Like and I'm I feel sorry that they don't really have that no more, like you know what I mean, like at home feeling like you know, when I remember, you know, seeing having and being they would just be happy to go to a Loud. Don't go to LOUD. I'm like, oh ship, Like what the is that? A club like that? That's how happy they were like that they their their album came out. I shut the office stand, we go want to the park

to playball. God damn, this is the CEO of a c You can see yourself down like an artist friendly CEO because the CEOs don't funk with artists at all. And then this CEO is that this CEOs like, I know, I'm getting locked up. Call him bro. I never get to myself as CEO. I always consider myself the artist first, and I think that's why the labels were probably always always scanted me, because I'd ever looked at a budget. It was like, if the artists really needs that, it

makes sense. All right, we'll going, you know, if it's me sending rich or Jonathan on Mojo, like we're doing whatever the funk we have to do to really to get this stunt. That's well, and this will get back to this concept you got, Mark d I got everybody. Are you going to say, I'm so surprised as you've got Come on, come on, let's tell us though, I mean, are you committing? This is just no because I really

wanted people to come out. Um, I forget who's on the list that you got that I got everybody why I got woo wow. And when you say wotan clan, you ain't talking about got will you one of the people in the world again? One of them won the phone? He wasn't you manage her? Who tang too? Before we go? Not really mad? I mean me and Rizrael like brothers. It's like, Okay, Divine is the manager. Okay, okay, okay, well my mom and hopefully there'll be special guests doing prodigies.

I might come out to give it up, give it up too much that I would. I would. Um, Joe and Remy are doing punk, Okay, I could do both sets. Yeah, Steve managing me right now, you're working both. Let's go dead President m op alcoholics, alcoholics Exhibit pretty six Fox, Pete Rock. Um, I'm trying to see what other label, other label can pull this all. I don't think so. And this is a tour, Let's be clear. I don't know if it's a toy yet. We're gonna see how

the first one goes. No, it's a tour. Steve could be a great tour, but he's being careful. Get me wrong. It's a headache talk because this is like a venue tour. This is uh, this is a summer jam tour like but this could be just could be a festival. That's that's what I'm that's that's what I'm trying to get that. Thank you, thank you. Um no, we got everybody and the surprise guess are gonna be the surprise guys? Right? Holy ship? Elliott Wilson Okay, tell yeah, I ain't answering

this question. He got her line, um so um so, so you you don't think I think it's I think it could be a tour. I think it would be a tour. I think it definitely could be a talk right, but let's you know, because because who who by themselves? Like I'm not gonna lie. I had to show what Wu Tang San Diego and that was one of the

aircraft carriers. Yes, and oh my god still to this day, like I still like getting straight fan more like when I start seeing them like and then it's crazy because you know they're older now and you know before they used the clash on stage and like and now they're older, like so they like they know exactly where to be on stage at with time, and it's like it's like

why for me, it's like watching the four Tops. So you know, like like you know, the Temptations or something like you know what I'm saying, But our version of the tempt tastes because they're not you know, dancing and holding the mic and thrown it on the floor and bringing it back up. But it's our version of that, you know what I mean. I love to see it like we did Australia a year ago, okay, at at the City our pre house, and I mean it just worked a perfection. I mean, mm hmm. That is that

is that? Is that your favorite group you ever discovered? I know you can't say that. I mean, I mean it's your most proud moment. You know, we can't love change more than the other. But you know, you know there my first child there on my first plaque, okay, um. And you know with with the guys, I you know, I have a relationship with all of them. You know, me and Matth have the same birthday, so you know, um, me and still talk to three times a week. Me and Ray talk twice someone. Um so I see Matth

give Mike Kaiser um dust Andrew Dust. It was the funniest thing in the world, he said. It was the funniest thing in the world. He was out in Vegas and you know, this is the time, and my guys were still like friends, Like he smokes weel and ship like that, and Math said, you'll Norri, don't smoke that blood said what he said? Everything else a little this one. So I said, you know what I'm smoking that, Yeah, say with it. I was a little mos and white guys that gave over. He had the blood and boy,

it was a different thing. Man, is I'm gonna let you know my kind I got you. I'm not gonna blow it up my fellow, my brother I got But do you ever realized that, um, what is it called fraternity? Like you know, in college, you know, you guys go to you know, they do all this ship. But years later that's what a fraternity is. Years later they come and they see each other and they look out for each other. I feel like hip hop is finally at

the stage of becoming a fraternity. Like if I was ever walk in the hotel and I was to see so Pepper, my first thing is let me make sure they okay, as opposed to like, yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like I'm automatically protective do you feel like hip hop is becoming this fraternity? I think it's been for a minute. I think it would be Okay, Okay,

that's great. Even even with the divisions of the generations, it seems like like one thing is So for example, what why did you feel that right now was the time to do this concert? Was there a reason for it? Just came together that way? I saw a puff through his show which we were at the we were in the one in Vegas, right, right, So I went to the show in l A. And it blew my mind away, like literally just blew my mind with it. I'm coming

off a heart attack, like and I'm watching this. And I remember texting him the next morning and saying, I saw Michael Jackson perform at the Apolo first time. After We've got to get back to this, right, so James Brown, right, and and I said, Pop, I've never seen a show like this in my life. And I said, I wonder if I could do it? And this was three years ago.

So I had a heart attack, you know. So I'm just getting you know better, And then you know, I started working with you, So you know that took some time, and then the opportunity of this just Kane. So it's like a legacy show for you. I mean that's what I think that the Bad Boy one was a legacy thing. I mean this is this is more like when you said it's like I never took the time to smell

the roses. Did Yeah, I believe I agree with you. Right, So I think this one I'm patting myself on the back and saying, hey, alright, look what it was, right, but it was, but it was puff show that really jumps off. Yeah. But I think I think this is

definitely a tour. I think that um, we've interviewed everybody from like uh that press to having Pete Rock, Um obviously Wu Tang and um everyone always salute to as the you know, the o G the guy that you know, the CEO that was for the artist, you know what I mean. So I feel like I feel like everyone will come together and just be like, yo, man, let's get like you know, I don't want to say like like the last Hurrah, but like you remember how the Wayne way he did the last you know, the man

and the last stance. Like I feel like this is for Loud, you know what I'm saying, Like for Loud, I think everyone will come together. You know we really for for artist. I mean, I gotta arrest it before throwing a chair through a glass door. Um, it happens for fighting for wou Tank getting the money that I felt they deserved a video, not not for a video. It was the renegotiation. It was for Rae Kwon solo record for Human Links, and it was for the wou

Tank Forever album. So with our c A and I say dollars apart, I just give him the fucking money. And the business fans was a woman and she said, Stephen Riffin, I'm tired of your ship. I've never hit a woman in my life. But I took this chair and if I was facing this way with thirty six fours and it's going on Broadway, and I turned it around and I threw it through the glass door. Thirty six blows. You're taking the thirty six. So you know,

the cops came, security came. Wow, that's great, that's great, that's great. Um, what do you feel about like the Me Too movement? Like because like you know, they got russelled like in Tahiti somewhere right now, they got him in Ted, he got himself. That's my man, but like, like, what do you feel about that? Like, like I don't I've personally see Russell be loose, but I've never seen him like the ship come on, like him raping somebody. I don't. I don't see that. I don't see what

going on man um. I mean, Russell is like a brother to me, right, So you know, I wasn't around when you know, telling people are pressing trash from thirty five years ago, Like who the funk even remembers thirty five years that's crazy. So it was like, you know, he was always like even when he was when we had the Jimmy Spice record on my dad's Like, I mean, he was crazy, but he was always polite and just

like you know, like Bill Cosby. I've seen some ship with Bill, Like you know what I mean, I ain't come on like Russell. Just Russell wasn't drug duging, like I don't see that, Like but Bill was slipping pills and she's like he got a little I ain't bills found Nick. I tell I'm just leave that alone. But so, but you have DAYD Gabriel Union. No, it wasn't Gabriel, No, it wasn't everybody. I know somebody and lacoln I was good. I was I'm going to live. Yeah, I thought it

was both. No, no, God, it's just she's like a sister. She induced me later, that's art. She's a beautiful girl. How how does that happen? I mean, how didn't happen to me? He was pret this is pretty like TMZ days too. If you did eat you up in the TMZ days. No, they killed me, they killed you. Yeah, they killed him out. That was like because I just got out of my marriage and it was like they called her a home record and ship like that, and it was just like, get out there. Yeah, she wasn't

home record. That's just clear her the way you said. You gotta say it with more basic please all right? Cool, So making up you're cool, but you're still cool, man, very cool. She's cool with my ex wife. Oh yeah. And at one point you left your wife and you um too. You took it down puffs like a maid or something like that. Right, you like, man, listen, But Stephen lived a life man in the same way I get rappers here and fair like you know, I listen

listen as a married man. I admire when people were singing there days of being single and having fun because okay, don't worry. But you know that's kind I mean, the issue was, you know, I funked up. You know, oh shit, I didn't expect that. When I was single, I didn't have money. So you know, when these records started coming to check started coming, crazy ship change CEO checks is different talk. As I started with the BMG checks BMG,

I just look at it. Let go. I just felt freaking like that we have used them because now now they believe you, right, because like now they didn't have a choice, they didn't have fucking I mean, now we just put them in the I mean it was just like they knew when I threw the chair, they knew I wasn't playing. Yeah. But but at one point, I remember fact Joe I said like, yo, man, I'm going on private jet with Steve River. And I was like, what the funk recently me back then, like I remember

at one point you was taking private jet. So Quincy Jones termed me on to the pract of plants. I love how he his name dropped. Game is so nice, you know, Quincy Jones Jones, I was like, I goes a little bit, you know through the marketing company. I was in something Quincy's label in my mind. You you you're speaking to Quincy Jones. I was drinking a glass of wine and he said, what are you doing up

commery show. No, this is imagining. I could me and my fiance, I'm talking about our wedding day and clost in the house called Rings and it's Quincy and I remember this like it was yesterday. He goes, hey, Steve, it's cute. I'm like, oh, he was cute. And I gotta and not an email. Brett Ratt and called me, who made the introduction, goes, Quincey is gonna be calling you man, name dropping, right, So Brett goes, Quincy is gonna be calling you just he want to talk to

you help him consult his label. So he calls me and he goes, what are you doing tomorrow night? Like I don't know. He goes, have been with me. He goes, We're going to just place called Dre's. The finest women are finest women in l A would be there. Okay, I thought Dreves was in Vegas, but this, yeah, this is it was last thing and I gotta relaxed, and we just listened okay. So, um, I got me Quincy and it's like love at first sight, like then the woman.

It's me and Quincy and like ten women, I mean, one more beautiful than the other. Because I want to bring you in as a consultant. He goes, what are you doing next Monday? Next Tuesday, and I said nothing, goes come to Chicago with me. I'm doing open and I'm showcasing my new brand new waters. To me, new brand of water, no new artists, okay, to me brand water. Okay. So, um,

I end up in Chicago with Quincy. You have flu together. Yeah, on his plane to Chicago and I was like, just as you said, no more, no more American, I mean see you later. United took goodbye. So for two years, whenever wherever Quincy went, I went, and it was just well, so he taught me how to play with money. Wow, and that's where you private change. Yeah. So I was like, well, like I think when the Sony check came then I was like, funck y'all, this is that Joel's questions. Joel said, um,

let me just pull up it's questions. So you know when I that's when I do interviews. He says, how much dough did he blow? And then how big of a deal did he do with Sony? Because that must have been your that must have been your fuck you moment. That was a real fuck you moment, fuck you moment. This makes a moist of I could imagine, Thank you Tommy, get him on drink champs too. So this is this is after whoop tang works, this after everybody works. Everybody works.

Now you have a choice to go anywhere in the world. But because it isn't r c a um, wasn't that merged into the same Sony system? Not yet? Alright, So break so breaking down. So Jimmy Ivy was my mentor, and he's so and he's paying me a shipload of money to consult, to consult Jesus at least getting money for everywhere Steve. So all Jimmy Captain saying to me is fuck the bottom line and just think about the top line. Right. So Quincy told me about planes, Jimmy

told me about the chef and the driver. Jesus, they teach you how living life. None of these type of friends. So did you have me? And you gotta make it develops. You gotta way better friends. And I'm just like g So, I have a meeting with Strauss ell Nic and Pete Jones Strasonic was the CEO and b MG and Pete Jones was send Um Distribution and they said, you know, we need more profits from you, and I said, I'm not gonna do more profits. I'm I'm building these fucking artists.

Fuck you like whatever happens happens. And the next day my locals, you know, they're willing to let you go. Who's what? Who's saying that when this you go? My attorney called me. He said, they're willing to let you go. Whoa. So it's Clyde Davis is free Grammy Part. I walk in there and it was like the red So you opened up like every like everybody just came at me. You know, Tommy this one, that one. And I didn't say a word you because I didn't even know, like

because you're going too crazy for listeners. I mean say time you gotta say Tommy with Tommy say dull, you gotta say. They're just thinking like it's dolls from down to black and like the don't so to the university. Um So, every CEO of every music group is calling and they're kissing my ass during the whole fucking night, right, I didn't have a chance to tell my wife him. So she goes, what the fund is going on? I'm like,

I said, I'll tell you when I get home. So I picked time because what they based on the meetings or no, So because you took everyone's meeting, I took everybody's meeting. Um, my first choice was really Jimmy, and but I don't know, something was up whatever. I think Jimmy was maybe redoing his deal or whatever. And I was like nah, and master P was really blowing up at that time. Priority Yeah, I mean he was just blowing I mean everything that he put out, I mean

was going on planet. And I was like what, like, how the fun is he doing? I mean I know how he was doing it, but I wanted to see with my own eyes. So I went on a toy bus for six weeks, no by myself and I and I just did the South and just trying to get what are you trying to get a field of, like what the fund is really going? So three six Mafia was signed to Relativity and every and everybody everywhere that I went to was Alan Groenluck involved in that deal.

I'm sure he was people's on Relativity to in the beginning. Yeah, so I was. But everybody everywhere I went, everybody started talking about the next thing topop, this three six mafia. So when me and Tommy had a meeting, he was who do you want to be at Columbia Epic? I said, I want Relativity? Wow, and he looked at me like I was on crack. You wanted to acquire Relativity. So so we didn't acquire it, but we emerged. It was the first time got into music business where you being

with Sony to do that move. I had lab right, so what b MG out? So now I want I emerge woud into Relativity. So now we're the third major. So that's how you suggested, okay now, and I didn't really was three six and you were one of the first labels too. Besides obviously priority of master p to see that future in the South. Yeah. Well he was the first one. He was the first one. God bless, Holy Moly Guacamoa. This is history right here, man, this

is history. Sold. He emerged, we emerged, and then we had one amazing year and then it just became too corporate for me. Yeah, it was like quarterly numbers, this numbers, that numbers, and I was miserable. Wow, wow, so what that's that's when you so basically all right, so you're saying you sold the company. Basically, yeah, sold the company.

And I had not worked for the company that I sold, and so like so Russell, like for instance, Russell, I think Russell had to do that with Deaf Well Russell's I mean stayed leg became the CEO of right, so and you hated it. You hated because of your face, trying to convince him and be like, no, don't say that,

and he's not. So I remember going to Hawaii with my son and my wife and I said, I think I'm gonna send Time in with Toller back his money ship and I'm just gonna leave, right And I'm playing ball, and I see these big to samoans coming running to the courts were tribe was there, and nobody knew or I was except for my mother. Um, and I'm like something somebody died, right, And they said, you have an

emergency on the mainland. So I called my office and they just sent me straight to rich Yeah, and Bridge said Punt had a heart attack or he's not dead yet, So I called Joe and just as I called Joe, he just passed. And in my mind I was retirement. I think I was going to move to Hawaii. And I just got back from the wife to say the two that's crazy. That's why this story is sucking me up in a different way. But I continue. So I am,

I'm like, who knows? And Joe said nobody said, I'm gonna call Angie because you know she was part of terrof spot in a crazy Martine Andrew Martine. Yeah, Um, I called the Angie. I told him, and I just like the letter that I wrote Tommy, I ripped up, jumped on the plane, dropped everybody off in l A and I watched, you know, straight to New York. But I didn't retire, but so I stayed there another to

three years. But and you know, speaking on that, you know, Punt was like our closest friend, was one of our best friends. Um, I mean, you guys had that amazing record together. Yeah we have, we have. Yeah, but guys that you came up video yeah yeah, yeah, I'll tell you so that thank you for because I was about to go, thank you, thank you, Steve. You know, I was about to go like, you know, depressing, Yeah, depressing, and he just let me tell you something about that video.

The reason why you guys had a two hour overridge on the video is because you remember the guy jumps from the thing. You know, Punny really wanted to do that. So the whole time punts like one's like, I don't even know stunt man and he's got me over there. He's like, right, Nori, and I'm like, fun, you know, you don't want to say right, because I know my friend is over When you can't jump over the fucking building,

you know what's up on the building? He jumps over, So they so they have a stunt man there to do it. And the stuntman is like a hundred pounds like and punts like he's not gonna look like me, I'm gonna do it, And he kept trying to say your Nori, tell him that I could do it, and I'm like, there's no way you're gonna give you. But

that's the that was the craziest funny part. So if you ever remember you had guys that like two hours over it, because I was sitting there like, nah, man, I can't I can't allow you to do it Pump, but Pump was punting. Really. You know. The beautiful thing about Punt is being a celebrity. He loves being a celebrity. And he never felt big, like he moved like he was lighted in. Everyone in this place like, I kid you not okay, So I'll tell you a great story,

please still not a players blowing up, blowing up. He comes back from you know, doing the show. He buys himself with the most beautiful Cuban link bracelet. That's a big punish it and I was like, wow, show money really must be mad. He said, this bracelets beautiful. Right. He goes if he goes, if we go platinum, I'm gonna get you one. I go punt the shipping platinum. Right. He goes to me. I'm like, now we'll be at two million in a week, right, And I'm not thinking anything.

So it's like, if we do four million, you know, you can get me something. And I'm working around, not even thinking. Cut to a year and a half day that we hit the four million rom that you know, whatever it is, and the guy don't even grow Hunter, who was our product manager, walks into my office. He goes, Punt wants to see you today, m to discuss the next album. So I'm like, all right, So I called Joe. I'm like, hey, it's a cool pun wants to come in.

He goes, yeah, yeah, yeah, comes in and I'm sucking around with him. I'm like, you know what, you gave me your word. You're gonna buy me a fucking Cuban link bracelet. You know when we went before me and we're at four point three and you don't have ship, I mean, I gave you my word reach just out of packet, goes fucking mother and he throws this box, you know, all all wrapped up with the most beautiful frame, like in a in a in a box with my

name on it, all diamonds. Damn. It makes it looks so um, you know, not to like, you know, be all like you know, but from puning you have to speak about prodigy, Like where where was you at? You got dad news? I was here, My daughter was Miami, you say here before I was in four, I was in Florida, right, so yeah, my daughter was taking a road test complex and rich Eyes is kept on calling me, and I'm like, all right, something, I mean he's calling

me like four times in a row. So it's the videos of bad news and I don't want to hear any thing until I see her. And he texted me, called me now urgent, Rich Rich, So I see my daughter coming in from taking her road tests and she passed. I'm like, now I'm on the phone with Rich. You guys, are you sitting down? I'm like, funk, what's just right? And I'm not sitting down. I go, what's the matter? He was? He died and she's walking in and I can't tell she passed and not passed. But I'm a

sterical crying now and she passed. I couldn't really enjoy that, but it was just that was a hard one. Now I gotta be wound a little more. Apologies, but we're all on the subject. Now, your first group, your first sons, you like, you know, the first like you know child, it was like a Wu Tang clan. You know, you got cappadatta that went away or whatever. But the passing of od B comes home. He wasn't quite like Wu

tan clan. When he came home. He was quite like like you would tell he was in like a confused state. And I want to say because I don't want to say he was Rockefeller or any of that. I just want to say that, you know, he just came home. He wanted to be in itself, but then he that he passes away, that has has to be there. So I'm flying. I'm flying to New York at m I land the second I put on my phone from the plane the way, I don't have LAD at the time anymore.

Now I have SEC records, right, and a kind of is blowing the funk up at the same banners on it. It's locked up. So the vine calls wan and too dirty just past twenty minutes ago, my gel, he says, the studio. So I just went straight to the stud you his body was still that god damn like you know, um for people like who's CEOs, for people who's rappers, and people are just human beings like because you you you attached to this is not like you. You're not

You're not one of those. I'm not comment with Toller. I'm not dug monst. I mean, you know, you know, you know without saying that, let me because you know, sometimes the audience might not understand that what I'm saying is you're human, like like you're a person that's involved, like you're not You're not looking at a person like there's numbers. So dealing with that, like how do you cope every day? Like like you know what I mean because I can imagine your artists, was your friends as well.

I mean all of it really just just I mean, it takes and then you know, um, you know, dealing with the Punt that stayed and you know, you know unifact, Joe was one of my best friends and you know, like how did that just feel? Like you know what I'm saying, like saying, well, Punt was signed to Joe, so I never me and Punt had a relationship, but all business stuff. I dealt with Joe on the attorneys right,

so you know. And the thing is, Joe gets a bad rap, you know for what people say, you know what you did with Punt, but it's really not true. But that's real ship. So I mean he treated Punk like a brother. I know, true Punk got everything that he deserved. Yeah I know that, I know that, but when I when I say it makes me feel like it just because you know, brother, Yeah, like I'm buying So that's why you I mean that was him, like you know, he said that you know what I mean.

But Steve Man, I just want to um, I just want to reiterate you know how great you are Man. I appreciate UM. I know you for years and whenever I had one of your artists on the record, or whenever UM your artists, I've seen see you an out and dinner, it's just Steve always he's the greatest places in the world. You know what I'm saying. I don't know if I see you and you always kept your word, and I just want to salute you for that. You

know what I'm saying. I want to salute you back when you was the when you was like you know, coming up in the game to the biggest in the game, to still like just maintain that your your your your bigness. He was always has been a person of your world. So now what is it? We got the concert? What is the next? And we can understand you're managing DMX as First of all, how is dm Max? He's good? He's good, He's good? Is he is? He okay? And he's on def JAM right, he's on def JAM. That's

the beautiful thing that makes me d back. He's what depth jam? Um? I hear other podcasts critique you, and I hear other podcasts like, you know, actually diss you, and I'm gonna just tell you something there. I disagree with those podcasts in totality. The fact that you guys Dot L L cool J and d M Mex back on your roster. To me, that's kind of like dope, Like that's like loud starting to get with utank Klan.

I would love that Paul's at the realm of so Paul at is that the real richest number two Paul, right, so pick him up. Even though I heard he's not fans of us, It's okay, really not in a bad way, not in a bad way. He just you know, he just don't want him to come on because we're smoking. Guy, Look Steve didn't smoking get high. We're having a great interview, a great example. I got a lot of He did not hate on us. I just heard he just you know,

did block us. Okay, But Paul's a real hip hop pet guys back in the day, scam the guy he was just fall I respect to the fullest and then rich you know the pedigree. You know, it's like we both learned from my dad, right, so you know, even though you know he has thought Rich was Jonathan. Did you know the crazy ship? And I always thought Jonathan was Rich. That's the crazy thing. I was like Rich. So we all grew up around the corner from each other. This is Manhattan. No, this is a long hour. What

part America? Listen to Merrick people? If you're American, y'all broken up? Yeah. So it's like we always had, you know, the dream, like all right, well all of it. You know. Rich was a lawyer by trade, went to law school, went to Ivy League school. Jonathan went to the University of Maryland. And it was always our dream to just always work together, like rock and Fellow, like like all these these great record labels. You are you a fan of these new record labels. I'm a fan of my

son's new label. Oh what is that? My son has a jail through Atlantic quote chose chosen and and what's what think? His name is Alex, Alex Alex Ricky So and how he's doing it. He's taking a mixture of what's going on today, you know, digitally and then um my blueprint on how I did it. He's just signed al d Bastards. He just signed his kid out of Detroit, okay, which reminds you of an MP. You know, like he's on the road now, so it's like he's doing that.

But then who like have conversations with SoundCloud, right that conversations with Spotify. But he's on the road, like he's living on the road away, I was living on the road. So the advice, so he did it at all. No, So he's a ballplayer. He played college ball, he played D one ball, everything, so he's taken. He took that work ethic, that's all. He took that work echic, work ethic and and put it to you know, like with somebody on his team was like a producer. You guys,

you know this kid has incredible beats. Just that whatever, right, And the smoke is not that's okay me like and it was like it's not him, it's a smoke from from lost so he um, you know. So I'm really like he took his basketball work ethic or a sports work ethic and and just like like he you know, when we announced the show, you just like hate dad. It would be nice if his new artists was actually bubbling, not to get out of Detroit, but the Southern Cadet in Sia. Can you open it? Can he be the

first one to open up to show? Yeah, of course, you know so New Yorker Radio City Music Hall. Yeah, it was a great fucking opportunity. So but I'm really proud of what he's doing. And then you know, my youngest son, it's a rapper ballplayer. So he made a record. Um, he's gonna company when he sees this. But it was like, the kid can really fucking spit because why they don't They don't want to. Now he's still in high school. Like you know, his team is like top five in

the country. Brianie's on his teams. He waits on it, you know. So it's like, because you ever heard of Rapper Russ had a rap a rapper rust and Rapper Russ got on him and he was because people his father was in the industry, so they called him my industry plan and he hated that, you know what I mean. He hated that. So you think your kids would think that that's not My kids are on nothing to do it, like they're doing it all Like like I had ton

of idea. Like when Ryan did this record and he did it with three of his friends, Alex called me because you hear the record. I'm like, what record? He goes, Ryan did the record this? And he goes, it's fire, sends me to record and I was like, holy ship, like the kids are like he I called him like Ryan who wrote? He goes either so you speak? Yeah, man, come on, let's get let's get a seat for John. Yeah, let's call Mr Leasey did you won? What about us?

I think that's soon. Yeah, that's my older son. Cool. Do you mean the mike? Let's get him on min Yeah, Jonathan. You know there's a little shot where's Brandy ready left. He's land though, he's getting he's getting a signature, getting you're gonna happen. Randy might as one join come on. I don't know if you know this me and man, he would nes that's just camera hole. If we put him here this' that's too much guy. Yeah, it'll be all behind the scenes. Guys, that's what he says. That's

the se guy that's in the sea. Nothing everybody not there. Let's make it work so he's comfortable when we can all look at each other's face. Oh damn, you just destroyed equipment. Actually, thanks, so leave didn't make sure that's a rock shine and to do stay too that we go because I've been getting pressure like like unbelievably like one more. Okay, man, don't taking this blind. Come on, come on, you're a legend, John, you gotta do it. Come on, you gotta be a head to come on

the all a legend. Let's do it. I should have to drink on drink, Champs. You should have a drink to drink. Come drinks. All right, let's go have a shot. Ye I don't really small every more of a drink that I'm not gonna lie. I'm still with little Wayne. Yeah, bumble bumbo. I had a great sleep this morning, but I did not diet at all. I woke up and I eat like a motherfucking motherfucker. And I've been eating for two weeks. And I've been up the white where you said there I was. I didn't not me, bro,

I ain't gonna because I've been. I've been. I've been the only thing you've been taking here, you know, I've been everywhere. The only place that I fucking I didn't enjoy was Hanno Lulu Bit because I went out there as I was performing. So I promised myself about to go back there, um, and I didn't. I played myself, so I gotta go back to honolulple. But mommy is my favorite. Yo, all eyes because you know I could bring my friends that you know on the run, you know,

because I said that they can still go. Yeah, come on, we come. He's doing he's doing, Pie says, okay, free way for Usually we just go without what I've read it. I want this industry, talk on this industry. I want to be because e FN was the street team that you hire. That's here was our Miami guy. Yep, that's hard, that's hard. Did we high us? I'll tell you right now, trust me, he has at Okay, look he knows, he knows who it is. Watch this, he knows everything about it.

Let's go. If wed be people Randy hand and we want John the motherfucker perfect of the hand. Are you tell you what? You're ready? You got something? You want some cheese? I got some mac chees coming to all right, We're ready. We're back, motherfucking drink chap listen, so listen, so listen. We just broke in. Oh god day. I love Boris sometimes some talk bos sometimes I love most

of this. But we got motherfucking Randy Acker here, we got motherfucking Jonathan Rifkin here, and we got motherfucker's Steve Ripping here. These are the behind the scenes, are behind the scenes. So this is just I would like the call of people. This is a pure game right now? Do you understand pure game? Do you remember how louds run? And where were you out there when loud was just DESTROYINGO? Was you the opposite side? I don't know if I

was the opposite side. I feel like I was. Yeah, before I was even in hip hop, I lived across the hall from Steve on Street when I was working at SPK Records with p Cave and Allies and Wilson Phillips and teenage meeting Ninja Turtsy whoa wild pitch Pendulum Records at them across the hall from Steve. That's where I'm main sort. Yea, yeah, jeez, Louise, Papa, jeez. So how y'all said, Yea, y'all didn't know that y'all was both in the music industry. We knew we did, but

I really wasn't in his part of the business. Then. I was in e M. I I was in business affairs. I wasn't in Hippop, not until I got into death jam that. So he was on the appreciation for what he really had done. Right, So you used on the lawyer side at the time. We had literally each other, yes, okay, and you were and you knew it was popping. Yeah, he was. He was the guy I knew that. I just wasn't in it. I knew who he was for sure. So jeer, when was the first time you met Chris Lady?

The first time at Chris Lady? Wow, UM had to be at seven forty one Broadway, eight forty Broadway, Um, that's that's that's the first first office UM in New York. And I think I met him with with I want to say, Peter Thomas. They were both how could I be down? I think they were both. They were both it's some way, shape or form. They were both working with Deft Jam and they were and they were they were up to the office. I don't know if they

were together, but they were. I mean they were friends and Chris was, as you know, a great friend of mine. I was going to actually the same question. Two were the first time you met Chris Lady? And then I would just see Chris everywhere. Um shot can introduced me to Chris Flavor Unit Flavor. We're at it. You don't remember, Yeah, my office, you know, like wow, you know like and then um we just developed for relationship. Was he the one who broke Deep? Wow? So he wasn't managing Mam

Deep a woman by name of Tammy. I forget how last name brought me. Had you even heard that first album they did? The premier was Executive? Yeah, from the back Yeah, and hasn't heard that in spof that's a hold on this story. When did you first meet Chris Lady? I met Chris Lady won sixty Barracks sheet was six. Yeah, that is death jam. The first Deep Tong King is across the street, and the next building across the street.

That's probably like the ist like at that point the Arab that it was, it was bananas because Simmons I managed everybody, because Russell Management was in there as well. At that point, Violator had their label deal there. So Chris was in the bats watch the department. But the whole building was just out of control. I mean when I'm really really I had met Chris, but he got

into an altercation with one of the artists. He was mistaken for being an artist brother, and it was that was like not the first day I met him, but uh, it had started to develop a relationship after that, like we had talked, we know each other, but um, you know because I had ended up working with X, which was very strange because I was a lawyer at def JAM and then somehow, I don't know, I guess when you're in a small company and it's exploding, it's all

you know, everybody does whatever needs to happen. At that point, EARV had to kind of, you know, go be with job a little more and there's no one really be with X. And they were like, oh actor, you know the rough Riders. And I had no idea, but I just wet as this wet Chris was like he he's very mentoring, like he always was like very warm and welcoming and opening and wanted to share game with me and with other people not just me. I mean I

just found him to be like that, alight. So so so before we get crazy, UM, I still don't believe Chris killed this though. I just need your your opinion. What do you think? I mean, I know how much he loved those kids, right, yes, So, I mean we all have kids, and I just no matter how down you know, I could be, I mean I wouldn't. I mean, his kids were in his life. So so basically you're

saying you're with me. You don't believe me killed though you think it's a conspiracy theory something where I spoke to him that that what the day that he's supposed to kill hisself. Okay, you know what it was? I needed fifty for something, Yeah, okay, I think all right, so, um, these boxing promoters wanted to have a Floyd member the fight in the body and it would have been the biggest fight in the history of fights. Okay, and I needed fifty to get the Floyd. Wow. Sure, And you

spoke to Chris that day. All right, Now, I've never heard this story. This is me, this is this is not even for me. This is me personally. He sounded like he was going to kill himself. Now he sounded like he was bad that then. I've never heard the stories. So this is you know that we had our laugh you guys, is that money to be made. I'm like, Chris would make my money on this one shot that we'll have to make it. Our lives because I just want, you know, to people to know that I've been saying

this this. You know, I've been through doing this for four years consistently, we've been saying that. I've always said that I've never never believed that. Yet you know, I'm glad that you know you didn't even know that and you're you're giving your side of the story, and that's something awesome for me. Man, you know what I mean. But but but in that note, we talked about Big Pun, we talked about Prodigy, we talked about where don't you gonna say something about jay Z? So that we're coming

back to that. But I just wanted for our fallen shoulders everyone that we just talked from, everybody from louds and everyone. We're gonna take a shot for them. Man, solo solo solo solo solo, and this is how do we? How do we wait? No more pronounced this boom combire. I got two great press stories, so you met Okay, okay, you want to go to press story because I got some car gate ship. I want to hit you with

it because no, I didn't. I didn't manage kind of he was around him during the Make America had great wasn't something with merge. No, No, it ran like, oh that's right, but it was all because I don't know you, was you I'm not gonna make America great. I'm gonna make America great, but in my way, yes, yes, it's not maga exactly. I'm gonna tell you something about Kanye. I love him like a son. I love him like that's all. I want him to dispute my sneakers and

they can only call me back. I mean, I don't know. Look, I want you to dispute my kid. He has a he has a heart of goal, and Kanye when he was wearing that, he doesn't want to be dictated to saying, hey, you gotta vote for Bob, you gott you know. So it's like he's his own man, so and he wants to make his choice. So whatever he says sometimes it's just it comes out of his heart the way he doesn't like. All right, let me bring it back and let let me say this movie. This guy has passion

like this no tomorrow. When me and him when our on different way, like and it was neutral, he goes, I want to take care of you for two years. Don't have to do that, like forty hours later, you know, like a severance package type of thick. Yeah, and I'm like, yeah, just I'm here for you, just you know, whatever, whatever it is. Um. So when he wore the hat, I don't think he was doing it because he loves Trump

so much. Because you remember the first picture it was it was him Lee or I took the picture, you know, Lucy and that's the guy from university. Oh my god, So did you know how this pictures are gonna go crazy? No? I wasn't even paying attention to the fucking act, right, Okay, So because he didn't see that use the shirt that he walked with free Laddy hoop, damn me, nobody saw that. No one's sold. Wow, that's you know cool. We have to put that picture up again. Even that out real quick,

right yeah, okay, continue. So, I mean I think Kinnie doesn't want to make American read again, but his way, which you know, if he wants it to be a free America, right he you know, So it's not like I'm fort Trump. I mean, Trump just had that hat. I think Kindie is like, all right, let's your own mind. You can speak whatever the fun you want without worried like so outrage culture. Ship is going crazy like so

that's really what it was. But the two years that we were together, I mean they were I mean I worked for so you wasn't almost that ship. Naomi was Yomi. Naomi wasn't wyoming for the album listing for the one just I would. It's not cool with me. I was not comfortable. So while so the first time was I think in Jackson right where we had the the album. I like the fourth season, whatever, the four that's the

only And then around three months ago he called. He goes, if I send you a plane, it's not to send me send you a plane. Yeah, if I send you a plane, can you come see me. I need to talk to you. Okay, it doesn't tell you where not with him? So UM sent me the plane. We had our lunch, we had on meeting, we spent the night, and I flew back the next morning. But he really is. He's an amazing father. It's amazing. I think he's a genius.

There's no let me tell you something. I went on Nick Cannon's show, right asked me about the album, and I can't like the album. I liked it, but you like it and you just you just feed me the whole time. No, like so, like I just said I didn't like the album. So people thought that like I was like being malicious about this kid. I didn't say that at all. I didn't giving your honest why are

you in that's this argument? Your opinion? You could have said I didn't like him, like it was something personal for us, like Kanye his first daughter, his name, her nickname is Nori, Like why would I ever like disrespect? But I just gave my honest opinion, like I'm honored. Like the first time I met Kim Kardashian, Kevin kr Um, Kanye grab kicking on that Shi and walked to old over to me and said, this is who we named after, Nori. This is Nori I. This is real ship. Like this

is on the E Hollywood channel. They blocked my face out because I ain't signing off, But you didn't get about I was just I was just throwing off. I was like, what the fun is going on? I didn't know you know what I mean? So like like it was like yeah, like they when they even just in the job doc, I was like, watched on y'all is

one of the phone. But you know what I'm saying, but what I'm gonna say is like I didn't mean it to be malicious when I said that, I just disliked you just kick because I'm thinking this is a superior Rapp album when this kind of was a goschool album, and that's cool. That's cool. If I was talking there and they just took that line and just ran whateverything they never but happening. I was the other ninty nine

episodes and Drink Chance. But I'm saying college drop out when I'm saying Kanye is a you know, I said I vote for Kanye for president. They just took it. They just took that one sound bite. And I didn't mind because I seen beauty what's my man's name, um a Car's brother. I've seen people and I was I was like, what's up and he was like what's up? He said what's up? I was like, tell Kryea one

who on one drink Chance? And he looked at me like, you know you don't want car And I'm looking like, because this is this is technically I was having a conversation like we're not nothing's coming out of our mouths. Like I said, yo to Kanye at one more. He looked at me like in our mind stopped talking. He said, you don't I said, I'm and he's looking at He's like, no, I heard what you said. One statement. This is in our minds. I don't even know what this really So

you don't have the seen Watson Homes. I went to ball. Watching homes is a nobody knows what watching the homes please pull it up, damn homes. I watched all though, for lack of a better term, I watch all the white movies, the white dumb movies, like like you know, the dumb and dumb mors. White watch it and watching. You don't know what I'm talking about. Now it's hum Yeah, yea, that ship is hilarious. I'm sorry I went too far. I went to so now Loud motherfucking Records. This motherfucking thing.

You've been to, the bad Boy thing, it's this Loud Records. A tour Randy Actor. This is a tour. Oh yeah, I mean just that show he's doing. If you look down the listures bestally want to get to say a couple of prodsy verses. I think this is a toll tour with drink Champs a tax to it. I've heard that it's right because I'm looking at the flies. There's no host to the drowning out the motherfucker, you know

what I mean? Any kind what all my kids? Jonathan said he should take drink Champs on the road with the loud toll. We are together like we've been fits back. I'll be honest with you know. The crazy thing is one of my best friends, one of my great friends. It's Bust the Rhunds, right, and I funk with him every leg two or three months, right, Like somebody would ask me like the biggest bag where they be like

if you think Buster would take it? And I always funk a Buster because I know he's never wanted to do it. You know, I just trying to manage coom bust me. Let me just say something, my Buster, if you want to be funny, this is my brother list. This is the funniest joke. I won't deal with numbers, but let's just say this is the number Buster one. Right, you would give Buster to that same number plus a little something. But if you say it's an old school show you want to I don't know if it cool

on the fund. I just sat you bring us to the the same bag. Baby one might be a little bigger, but Buster feels like, nah, I'm not old school, so I never have to do an old school show. And that is the most honorable thing that I can tell you. I'm gonna dude, like, that's honorable because me, I don't want to give a fuck. Old schools above the thirty called me old nigger basic and take two. I was there with that generation because I'm in the empty light

of them. I don't get but listen, lem tate some of Bustter runs bro I've tried, And then for three years after I tried, I just funk with him, like if I ever bring him my offer, you just be looking at it like I know this somewhere that's old school, and listen, I'm gonna be honest. At first, I was like, you know's just crazy, But now like late years later, I realized, and I was because integrity. I respect his

morals and I respect his stands. He is as a brother that's been in the hip hop logan all of us probably, But guess what if he wants to take that stands up he's in the middle of He's a genie. I have to respect him. He's a motherfucking genie in my hid speak, the bust of rockers on the floor on the phone, his ship is, he's just floating in there. He's just in there like he's a genie, and I

respect him. He's my brother. So the first record I ever posted through the Street Team, like when I came at the Hunter party, was he just under the schools the PTN. It's just another case of yeah, don't anybody nobody's sick to look? What the fuck? Yeah, that's you know, you impress that record. Amazing record that record and Red Nubian slowed Down. Yeah so you did that. No, that was on electric. But those are the two first two records that I promoted it through, but through the efficient

Street Team. Yet, do you think there's anything that you guys were doing in the Street Team era, like the physical Street Team era, that couldn't be applied today. I think you need both today, I really do. I mean to me, it's like when I go into a market, I'm going to a Walmart still and just hearing what people are talking at twelve one o'clock in the morn so and that was my thing. Listen, my father had

one of the most successful labels. We didn't grow up on the street, right, so I always had to figure out what that advantage was for me. So when I put the street team together and we started making some noise. Now my wife and kids live in l A. But I was still spent one weekend night in a month here. So I would start off that um king plasm mall and go with one of the stores and just hang out and hear what the kids were saying. King's Plot

in Brooklyn. Yeah okay. Then I ended up a few hours later Dr Jason thirty fourth Street and just I got to one of my best friends on training camp, Reme do you go sneak a store? And that's a great workers right, so you know, and I would I would end up working at training Camp like behind the kind of just hearing what you know, what this saying, and then I would end up at a place called DJ's in Washington Heights on and that would be my Saturday.

I ain't a lot You sound like a cocaine dealer was so street, but I so I always came back to just like I always I'm a little competitive. So I had an up you know, m like, hey, you know about this you know, and they're looking at me like, how the fund is you? Knowing all this ship? But to be that one Saturday a month where I would start off in Brooklyn and up in Westernton nights, Now,

how problem was it? Like? Because dead Press? Right, I'm gonna be honest, when you listen to dead Press lyrics, right, it's probably the most anti white lyrics that can probably be. How do you remove yourself from that? Like, you know,

our fan of dead Press, that's hard. I didn't imagine that what I'm Florida, that's family and that's that's what of those people don't what I'm saying this like, how could you like because I always imagine, like you know, when I hear the public Enemy, and I realized that people that's pushing in Public Enemy was Leo cons and

things like that, but I hadn't learned that later. And what I'm saying is like when you hear dead Press, there they they're just the most pro black Is people ever And you guys signed them all their music records speak the records were and you know what, at the end of the day there before me, right, But I could look at myself in the barr that I know I did right by them, right and whatever their belief saw,

their belief saw do. I wish there was more of a trust because I wasn't the Antichrist, right if there wasn't real question other way, me and my pad, the way me and who had, the way Joe fun had, they might have been the biggest group I had. But prior to you even signing them, their ideology and their beliefs towards a certain group of people were that. It wasn't like they signed and then became that they were there. They were that from the from the get go. Jam Yeah,

he's he brought them to me and you knew what Jaman. Yeah. So yeah, I mean that's that's that's that's it. That's ill, that's it. And so so I like even like didn't

you work with Public Enemy? I did my first project when I walked in the door to works Public Enemy and he was at at some of the messages, so like like so how is that just like that like like help me like described like you know, because I mentioned like people you know, you guys are saying the people are they're saying it's not me, but they're still saying, like you know, it was a little tricky for me because I came in as the young lawyer and they

were making a movie soundtrack with Spike Lee, who's also pretty confident. The right day, No, it was he got game and we did the soundtrack. So I had to get in and figure out all the deals. So I had to do a phone call with Chuck and Spike. You know, Spikes a legend, truck, a lawyer, you could have been whatever you doing. They went right into share croppers and the field of copyright and were stealing our stuff. And YO, tell that New York like it just went

left right away. But you know, I tried to be you know, consilivatory. My job was just to get the deals done, what producers, records got to come out. So I just kind of took it. I wasn't going to get into the conversation of because I didn't even understand it at that point. It took a while to kind of understand that the subculture is a lot of the you know kind of things that dead Press would talk about or the five percenters that what Time would talk about.

Like that job is to push that envelope and push that art form to the fringes, and that it is what it is. You know. The Dead Press came in with some tea shirts one day. I was like, can I have one? Give me ten bucks? I don't know if I was expect it's kind of they they didn't back down, right, So I did respect, right, and I gave him the time box. It wasn't where I wasn't where I paid for the shirt. It wasn't like, hey, I paid for you know. And I always looked at

as like I'm not that I am. But it was like a situation we never had it. We never always polite, you know, like you never people. Yeah, I ran to stick yeah yeah right on the plane, yeah from here, from Atlantity here actually right, and we spoke you know for a two hours. I mean it was amazing. You know, I'm one, you know, called you know, to get this thing done. You know, it's like I really want to be it. So still I respect that. I respect that, you know what I mean? Like I was, I respected.

Whatever happened. You're not gonna know this, but me and my boy Eddie, he's here. We worked the Loud Street team. We were the I told you he was, and then we took back that I told you he's gonna remember this. But I've always been wondering what happened to Buddha. Buddhist got me his brother, right, so Buddhism. Yeah, that's that's when we worked. That's when we were the street team was heavy and the whole reggae tone and just that's fine. Got me some Gobby's looking like he looking at half

of a man. Yeah, yeah, he respect I'm so happy, not only I expect you, I love you and I'm happy for you. Got be like I'm not see like he got a super smile ship he like that, Scott, he just got a huge check. Oh yeah, I forget the kid that he just saw it. Just did a deal with something, become some new hot kids. Something crazy. I mean in the scope I don't even just not gonna say hip hop because because because he was like

your guy, that's just you clear so got me. So it was bud was over there to write quarter we can rob every so so into this when I did the whole sap pole. Right. So, Buddhoo is the head of the street team. He brings his what seventeen years all at the time, right, so I'm in the back of he brings gobby. He brings gobby, right, So I have seventy five grand of kesh on for no reason. Just got to you know, let's make some wrist moers for the seven grand alright, So in those days, we're

going on the road for six weeks. Yeah, I don't bring any clothes. Everything we go into, I just find a Nike town or just whatever, just just go. So I'm in the back of the bus and I hess somebody just I don't know who god he is, but I'm peeing in my pants. That's how hard on that whoever the he's you know, cracking on. So I said, you know what, you're staying with me, and you hold onto this bag and don't go in this bag. Just

hold it with your life. So you know, like these tall buses, they can't talk in front of the bus, right, So we have to like fifteen days. I have twenty Nike bags now from just going to the foot lockers of the world. And he said, you know, wherever the funk we are, because I would buy clothes for the day, so he would have to bring it. I said, I'm gonna funk with him. Take a thousand dollars at any bad Yeah, and I'm like, who has his money? Like,

we're missing a thousand dollars. Meanwhile, he's like choking himself because he has like twenty bags around this. He really so he really starts to have a panic at time. So got me and then I realized, you know what, this guy is a fucking soldier and he's the he's with me for life. So cut too. We come back from doing this tour. You know, somebody breaks into our stock.

Remember the old start allowed jackets that we had never had one good continue, they break, they break in, and they still a hundred thousand illar was worth the jackets. Then no young was worth neither. Right, So the videotape, it's gott be his cousin and Buddhist cousin the medic So now they so they both are gonna quit. I'm like, you're not gonna quit, and I'm sucking around. I'm like, you just gonna bring me back a finger. So cut to two days later, my my cell phone and it's spooted.

He goes, I don't have him, but I got his wife tied up. What you want me to get her finger? I'm supposed to make noise for them. That didn't happen. Actually there was no finger taking, but I mean, but it was like David, I mean, you talk about two guys that were just so fucking loyal. Now, that whole squad was incredible. Man, you guys were incredible to work with. You remember I remember being honor for like executive a

year and my dad's with me. He's like, what his own gotta being Buddha because he fell in love with him. I said, watch, I'm at the Delano Hotel by the pool. Yeah, and gotta be Buddha at the hotel next door, right, I said, you know, we just went the two ways. I was like, get over here. Within thirty seconds you hit just team cars crashing like they just jumped out of the clock. Didn't put it in your pocket, just destroyed the whole, the whole right, and you hear it

by the pool. I said. My father's like, what the guy that that's gotta be in Buddha. So if you had to do it all over again, is this something you you wouldn't do it? What would you wouldn't do I wouldn't have sold the sony damn stave. I'm gonna be honest. I need to understand why with Sony. We were the small fish in the ocean compared to MG

being the big fish in the park. And if I didn't listen, as much as I love Jimmy, if I just just thought about the bottom line a little bit, was Jimmy was both forering you what Jimmy wasn't right. He was just saying, fuck BMG, don't worry about the bottom and they're making so much money if you this way that way market, youre this that bonusing up the ask And um, I mean and he was paying me, you should load of money. So you wish you would have went with Jimmy. No, I wish I would have

just I should have stay. I would have just staged. He said, let me do what the funk I wanted to do. If if I wanted to change that, I'm sorry to cut you off, Steve, but it's that what do you what do you feel on that situation? Um? No, I think he has a point. But on the flip side, I mean, we did have a great opportunity at Sony with relativity, and I mean we did a hundred million dollars in building and in one quarter. Excuse me, tell let's need to say, was just him sorry that a

hundred hundred one building cycle in the fourth quarter. The next thing to that, Jesus and not where I only are on def jam because the year before they put out the two d m X records, I think um and they had that crazy fourth quarters had a record at that time. I did not throw out too records. And yeah, I was a little guyn you were never a little guy. So I took ly was blue prods like,

you know what, let's stack up the fourth quarter. So we had a Wool record, a Prodigy record, a three six Mafia recorded, an Exhibit record basically record, Yeah, a flex uh Flex record, Project Pat record, MLP record at that press record was going to Project Pat record as well. And Chris was up there at that time. No Chris, you know, Chris was was my manage from the beginning. I'm not gonna lie. Let me just tell you something. I don't know if you remember that when it came

time for my soul, that was the thing. It was loud or it was definitely just like they kept going when they kept going, And the thing was Chris was like, man, you know what, I just I wanted to be mobb deep spelling, but I could have like like Chris told me, the kid kept real. It was just like, yo that if this is a queen's guy, let it be a mom deep Vieling. And that's the reason why I went to that chat. This is real ship, this is real ship. Steve was my land always like I don't give you

coming away with me. I'm saying, but it was Chris. But that's why I wanted all you guys, you know, to share the story. But like so so so so you guys always worked. Okay, I'm sorry, No, I just I remember I remember a year man someone when we had was to BMG and our office in l A was in the BMG building and I think that's where it was. And Stephen had some sort of episode with somebody and you came in at the right time to come down. That's me and exhibit we're going out, Yes,

tell us this story. No, that's a fact. I walked in. I walked in the sea sticky. I don't know what exhibit was was was on, but I walked in. I was wrong. I toltdally eximple to go fund himself or something that I mean, I was, I mean, but that was our relationship. And then he came like you, I could say no the phone, say it to my face.

And he came in and we got each other's face, and I happened to be coming to see you, and I think you guys and exhibit, and he was, and I said, new, I could not allow it, but because of me as its great great friends. And then I'm and with exhip. It's over the son of my oldest son and born the same day. Wow, God bless that godless he's bey. No, that's beautiful, man, that's beautiful. I'm telling I'm trying to tell y'all, um, this would be

y'all like y'all, y'all lee, worry Jesson. When I say worry Jesson, you remember how like the Jetson's would travel, they would be in the same place to go to a different I don't if you'll realize that the Jestic jestice. Yeah, they're traveling, but they're keeping the same thing. That's exactly what that talk could be. The talk could be the traveling label. I like to drink champ slot talk. I love to drink chatman, because we don't sounds strong. It

sounds strong. It sounds like really really got to make announcement. Now that's like we're gonna do with just we're gonna set it off. What day is the actual January thirty next, Thurst dirty And Okay, I think there's some way we can make some way something, make it hark. We can do it. So we could u do it in that green room where we talked with all of ours as they're going in and out of the show. But but but we would do we provide even more than that.

We're great, we're great street team people and services. But we would do is that's behind the scenes. But we were also hosts because you know, you gotta have somebody talking in between that press and and you know, he had finished being one of the grey and then I'm coming out of his host But then every night, behind the scenes, it's a drink Camps episode that I'm not going to. But that's really that's really what this industry is about. It is like us as people that have

been that I said it earlier, fraternity. That's what I finally getting to feel like, like you know, the other day boosey Wa Kappa Kappa Kappa shirt and the fucking college people lost their mind. Sorry, sorry, exactly what I'm saying it lost a mind. Okay, I'm sorry, sir. I appreciate yourself. What I'm trying to say is that that's

what I feel like hip hop should be. Like I feel like, if you've got ten years in this game a hip hop, we should have a flag shirt because this is because this is you know, for lack of a better term, like one of the people say that coach your vultures, and like ten years, fifteen years in this game, you should have we should we should have

a pen. We should have a pen like generals, like generals, like the Marines, decorations that they called decorations like this isn't trying to say forty yearsn't And you have never been called a culture vulture ever? Or have you not gonna? I don't know, No, I don't think you have based and I don't think you have, but I don't think you have. But what we're going honest, man, what do you think that if you had? What do you think that? What do you do? That means? What that I haven't

been called one? What it means? I don't even know what it means. It's taking advantage of somebody. I mean that's I mean, that's where you'd go, Yeah, what did you do? It warranted them calling you that he was apposed to dash that out of what they're referred to me. But I think I think that the idea behind the name is that you're profiting off of hip hop culture and not giving back, that you don't respect the culture, that you don't participate. You're just trying to exploit it

and get money. And that's where your concern ends. But that's a real concern. I think it's totally leg There's a history of plenty of people exploiting other people based on color, based on their job, based on male or female. There's a lot of exploitation. I just don't think it's just restricted to music and hip hop and no, it was a culture vulture and all kinds of cultures whatever. Culture. Yeah, but I think I think, man, you know what, we have been doing this in hip hop and hip hop

has been succeeding. And I think that we all together as a people, know who's this is. I want me. Yeah, I feel like Steve, I did not hope for you to drink this old. I can't drink heart because because she really had like a heart, Yeah, I had a real heart. Attack. He has a heart. Scary, scary because I remember it was like a Steve and then this, this is the after. This is the after Steve. No, you know what I'm trying to say, Like you know, before Steven was nuts, the wild Steve. He's very crazy.

I like him. But this is the calm the post protect your hearts to Yes, you have I mean accident deflated right here. That's definitely gonna calm you down. Sure, I have no idea what you just said. If saulate so you know when your heart stops, it's just no, I do not. No, It's like the electric joint. Oh ship, Yeah you have one built in Yeah? No, holy ship? And I'm smoking like this not what could moving back? No? No, I mean yeah, I just can't smoke, but I could

get take edible? Have you? I have? I beenly Is We have a Beverly Hills is phenomenal. By the way, drink this is a little way and ship? Why you have this Colombia that's my ship? I know what? Never trying? Yes man, you say it again? Boom boom boom boom. I don't think anyone's not sisting on the pork chorse. Brobably listen on the Bumbo Bumbo. She's like my mom like fan move, but I really it's my Eyeland sister. You know good, it's good, it's good. All right, that's

false and I listened to us. That's it all you other guys. I don't trust you at you give me false and shot. Tell me one more years. Take a shot, grab something shot all right, but let's take a shot. Motherfucking come take a shock. Take a shot. Take you gonna take a shot. You gotta track me, white man, you gotta take your ship. Got to mixing. Stop talking about the Listen. I'm not gonna lie at that out Steven, Steve, give Steve. Listen Steve. This is about Steve whipping. So

we're gonna We're gonna keep with Steve. I'm not gonna lie. You're one of the best CEOs out there. You're a person that still stick by your artists no matter what. Uh, it doesn't even matter if you agree with the ideologies or not. You're standing there at that and that's the that's the definition of hip hop. That's the definition of what hip hop is supposed to be. Sometimes it's like you know what that ship is like right now? Like

when I listened to the young generation. I don't agree with none of the ship, but I still box to it. I can line, but I'll be thinking it. So that's the definition of hip hop. I'm taking on like you know me. Also, the definition, right is it's not about the win sometimes because fact how many times you get up? So to me, that's what hip hop. Okay, so let's just salute to that, to that so little everybody, Okay, down quickly, that's fine. One. I gotta use your back.

I think I piggies first. I got me go first. I got said what I'm saying to say this morning. Now after all this ship, right, well, you don't even take it down brown man, you came down to hang out with them. Now, this would tank our album. What did you? What did you? Girl? What's the those days? Correl? No, that's not that's not even listen. I'll never get a second guest prison. I'm not what that was his I understand what it was A dope idea. The idea was basic.

It's dope there. It just got exploited in the wrong way by that got in the wrong hand, right, So that's so that's all. But I would never second guess at all. But it's like when the mty teacher the man's records are coming. I stayed in New York for the summer. He would come up to the office every single day with a notebook and it had and it had twenty seven lines. If he would have twenty seven questions right, and I would say yes to six out of seven, And he would say to me, why are

you saying yes? Are you scanning me? I'm like, why would I be scary? Everything that you're asking for is making sense. And the one thing that I might have to say no to is because maybe I just don't have the money. But that even makes sense, So it has nothing to do about fear. What was there ever any of these artists or any of these records that were presented to you that you thought, I don't I

don't want to touch this. No, I never like when Mom Deep came, you know how Now, Like if someone brings a a piece of content or a project that had previously had a deal and wasn't necessarily commercially successful, they might be like, no, I don't want to touch that. Like what made you see that mob Deep could be

mob Deep? What they were in the day they came he wasn't there always have and just the rest of the mob deep they had this energy that just I mean, it was like had Woo performed, they just so don't matter what they had done before that, that happum was a break right right what mom, Like, I'm asking like from the back album. Hit it from the back album. So so when they came in, like they just took over the whole room and it was like, I gotta

have these guys. Remember that they went into the men's room to smoke a blunt there and the fire and the water just came down. I was like, this is the perfect spinoff, was a matter of fact, and they kicked up BMG, kick this out where it's like you guys gotta have your own office now. So but but um,

but I said, we take in between Woo. Did Nas come out before after we tang before around the same time, Actually google it Nas on though he had to record with the third search and Patre Yeah, back to the grill again And so I had was before and then um he might have had a single before us, because I remember when Nas called rizzm m um, they were ecstatic that Rizzo was gonna do two or three beats on the album, but they're all ninety three releases. Both

of them were ninety three, like official album releases. I think they I think NAS came ninety four. Oh yeah, because Tank came to Vember nag right, what Tang came November nine and the week he came out was tried and R Kelly, and then Snoop came that's different today, yeah yeah, and then Snoop came out to sixteen Night, but it was out ninety two though Snoop with with this his first solo, don't say it was two. Check

that scene definitely, that's definitely late nine three. Can we can we check the date though I'm almost possibly it's November sixteen. Yes, it's definitely late ninety three. I know that for facts. I love this right now. But you know what makes it confusing because back then people were promoting albums all right, yeah, yeah, like a year like now, nobody could conceive that that someone would have singles to lead him to an album almost a year year. Agree

with this surprise album? How about you? How about Johnathan? Johnathan? I wanted to as I said, oh you got this surprise album? Like nowadays there's no promotion at all. There's no need for a street team, there's no need for nothing. They just like, there's just a problem. If you have these people, they just drop a surprise album. Do you agree with? That's only if they have the following that that makes it has the pot. But so many these people think they have the following and they they're very

they're gonna Drake. Drake has to follow, Drake has a follow up. Beyonce and the Mega Star could do that, but nobody. Eminem did it last week. This word of mouth now, I mean it's like light switch speed travel so fast now it's been fresh on the buck. I mean like I would saying we would generally release three twelve inches at least before we're dropping an album with punt before it's still not a player. Three videos and the original version. So we had you Ain't to Kill Him?

That's the white label, the real Wait, we had you Ain't to Kill U? The original You're not to Play with the o js right, the original without and then we came was still not a player. Then we came six weeks later with the Twins Right, which was a deep cover record R right. And then we came with Your record, and we came and came up right, So we had five singles within a matter of you think you think, you think, damn that that's that's that's that's

freaking awesome. By the way, we you just broke that down. Everybody listening like that ship was ill. So we four videos, so we did it was one of the five solo layout. You think anybody could do that? Now they're dealing with Drake. I don't know any new artists that could. You got me on that one. I don't know, no little way you could do it, little right, but not a brand

new artist. But when you think it gets them, the results of that one million in the first week or the million in the first week, don't I don't know how this whole streaming ship works now. I know the record companies are getting paid a fortune, right, I know Universal gets like five million dollars a year from Spotify, So really, I mean it's something right, right, Mandy. Yeah,

they split up the uh subscription fees. And I think the reason it works so good in the surprise albums is because back when we started, your friend would have to buy it and then you have to tape it from you and the other friend would have to buy it. Now once it comes out, everyone has access to it. So it's just a word of mouth thing that can spread like that. I'm working. You don't have to pay anything extra. I'm working with the Suicide Boys. Now, okay,

that's why that they are maker. This is it's a punk band right there, h two kids. Not New Orleans a city, but the country of New Orleans. And the way they are streaming right this second is crazy, right. I would deal is up with Universal in six months. It's gonna be the biggest bidding warm and I've never had a bidding war in my whole career. It's gonna be the biggest bidding warm of the year. M hm. And they can on your masters took well, they own

we own our we own our own right. So do you do you recommend an artist that has that kind of following that you're talking about? Could they go independent? Because it allows you to be We are in the autonomous We are independent. We're going through Caroline right the second, which is owned by the Universal Right, So we are So what's what's what's the pros? And going to a major label at this there's no more pro lax all

the time we were opposite side of this. You're all still taking advances And he said, then, huh, I don't know. We're hanging out with its leave. But two days. If you're a brand new artist right in today's marketplace, right, you gotta jump start to record yourself before they're back, before the labels, before the labels come. So if you run out of money, then you do need the label, right. But if you could figure out a way to get that money, keep that money, own your own ship and

do it yourself, you're gonna make a fucking force. And if you have a team that knows how to monetize properly, it's just I mean, but that's my it's not being gonna It's like, if I could help you make ten million dollars, please do that right And if God, but if I even needed something from you, I think you would be there for me. And I'm not talking about money, right.

So that's always been my thing with me and Puff were together at BMG, even though he was at our stuff and I was at our say, I gave him my connect to the chairman's boss, the chim that's what he calls himself. Now go himselves. The Chiman that makes looks for the Chimman. So that's how I've always just in life. If if I if I could help you, great, I'm not gonna watched the but I'm not asking for anything in return. I still got to rely on myself and my team to do what we have to do

all right now. So we also know if you have like like the good music connected, is that good music connects coming out at this show? I don't think so is it a DMX like you know out of if we have straight to the motherfucking there might be something. It might be something like that because if you remember ran right he had on the third album of the Flex album, we had the first single with DMX, I don't single was that I forget the name of it was.

We shot the video in Toronto. We shot the videos you remember, and then the dog ran off the runway ors what I mean? It was something yeah, yeah, So when they gave all the drugs to the white guy because customs came out the private yea even one more shot. That's amazing. Was you know, ex is crazy out of his mind. Great guys, but we had my school and Chris working taught us. Yeah, they were Christmas called. We stayed outside the excess house for maybe two hours while

the jets just sat there. No one knew if you were going to come. Every I was nervous. I was like a confused in front of um excess house. We put the jet so planes the way you said it was actually experting in white planes and we had the jet originally coming out of teter where we moved to jet from Teterborough to white planes to just make it as easy as possible. He still didn't make it. I think it's liver in my kissco though at all time. Actually he made it. We got there late, hours, hours,

laid over, just crazy, but we made it. It happened. And remember remember Leo calling me. He goes, he is my biggest artist and I'm gonna do everything possible not to make this happen. You know that whole ship caused a whole lot of problems. We're talking about Chris so you just for a performance that he became the singing so just just him recording the records. The problem video he did video, he didn't get the video everything. He did twelve million records in what six months, So he's

def Jam's biggest artist. Chris, we've def jam to come become our partner pretty much right and then and then Todd, I'm in Italy. I know that you're gonna stop because I kept saying you were the first things, like listen, we gotta the last name is very important. We say we need our listeners to google ship in Moscow. So Tom Musto was left. He was so with Chris, he was even death Champ. We didn't even have the deal yet. But I guess Leo found out and he kicked him

out of the bill. Am I correct? And there's something he found out? Yeah, I'm in Italy dealing with the new owner of Red Distribution, which we which we still known to this day. We had a sign off on the deal and I wasn't signing off. I was a knucklehead in those days. I wasn't right and le Or I don't have the funk. He reached me, but he found me in Lake Pomo, Italy, and he says, I'm gonna do it. This is very right. I'm gonna do everything possible. When does Alfacino come into the picture again,

I'm gonna do everything possible to block this. Just DMX being on a single, but I don't think it was about me. I think it was more about Chris Moscut's leaving. All right, so I'm going to funk with y'all. Chris came. Chris came first, and then Moscuts came like six months. Yeah, I can see where Leo is coming from. You guys that I would have done the same you guys was a threat and then you had the number one album on your first single, number one. Honest, he was ruthless, bro,

he was true. This just makes a nice for me. Who you are? Who you are, bro? Like who you are? Do you still have it? I mean, I'm just me. I mean. And then and so ship got my notes so that say you're Kanye but you're on the dogs. It was great. Oh, we hope to see for him soon. Is that with focuses? So when I left Kanye, okay, are you left one of Kanye's things recently? Did you make it happen? That's so I'm gonna tell I'll tell

you how the whole thing with it? So who No, it was neutral with me and ye and I got a phone call from the head of c A Music to barm c I c A created nation. That's totally wrong. So let's say it very confident. See. So they said what are you gonna do now? And I was like, I don't know, I'm gonna You know, he just paid me literally for two years, and he was spending me a lot of one. So I said, I'm going to figure it out, but I know I want I don't know if I want to work anybody again. I want

my own thing. He goes, there's this management company that manage a whole bunch of dance arts, Um, Steve Ioki, you know, a whole bunch of DJs. You just got a shipload of money from a company, from a private equity company out of London, and they're looking to go into the urban space. Do you want to take a meeting with that? So I was like, all right, cool, take the meeting and we work at the deal where it's called lab Management, and I had nobody um, And

then X performed at Sunday Service Wow. And that night, that Sunday night after I had a dream that I was gonna make his new comeback out a dream a dream. So I called Rich Isaacson. I was like, who's managing X? And you said, I got the name with pat Alla, right and so I tried calling Pat, didn't call me back.

You know, you know this, So Ali got me a Pat, flew to New York, sat down with um X, worked it out, sat down with the Rough Riders, who I love, UM work what they needed, and now the next month or two we're going to make a new album. Okay, he's he's he's because I'm really not abbressed. Um is he out of exactly? Okay? Big him up? Feel um? You know, I realized, like yesterday was the interview a little way, and I realized how much of a box that he put himself in. And I realized how much

of a box I put myself in. But I don't never want to be in a super box. So the fact that I didn't even know what d MX is out makes me know that I gotta get back off my ship. I gotta. I should have knew that I should That shouldn't have been a question. One of the shot. Let's done at the shots that your living Pepper got

Living Pepper. Yeah, I know that too. Let's take the shot. Yeah, a lot of motherfucker brackets, brand Yak and John our motherfucker Rifkin and motherfucker's Steve and Steve Riber your interviews. Who want to do something that we implicated new It's called quick Time with Slime? Are you ready? Six slime? Holy moldy? What come only folks? You know what time it is? He knows what time it is. She knows what time it is. And I think we know what time it is. It is quick time. What's America's favorite

game show? Holding? We're just gonna give you one. You just gotta just picking one real quick and just can't not doing all right? Okay, it's just big picker one, pick one, pick one, don't give you two choices? You ready? Yeah? Brief the boxes? That's that. I didn't see this coming, MP Martha. Any of it is my favorite record of all Time's great person Lis Damn. That's that's I'm mean. They're twins, right, so I can't let you get away because he's got maybe more. It's a real great No

they were who time was my first child? Okay boom somm d mov boom big fun ex int it bo I can't answer that. Vegas, my head, Vegas. Should you want to say that? But yeah, but you know that's that's where I had to keep the key. Bob White woman, black woman, you know that answer? What needs you to answer with them? Blackman? Okay, Chris comment is suicide of christ not cost Kristin not people keep dropping of it my head. Um, okay, hold on, hold on, let's do it. No,

it's jaz. I'm not answering that great office like that two black bag, not answering that either. But Tupac was my roommate though room start. The best roommates have to rock carry. I didn't take it from so you're Tupac? What happened his first album, Jimmy Hi at us don't get He wasn't on Yeah, they just Scope. Originally he was through a guy any of agent Gregory and Let's Go. Athan Gregory managed did You Don't Underground? They signed Pop's Go.

So we would do these promotion to us Thursday to Monday, come back sometime one day, and then we'd have to go back out on Thursday using Wednesday. He's staying at my place for a year? Is it in l A in l A studio city? Wow, like a live bust. The rhymes told me someone lives to the same story. We're gonna keep playing quick Slid with Fly Are you ready? Flat has you ready. That was a great story. He brought away all ready we left over two pocket Biggie. Yeah.

I feel like you disagree with me. I feel like you don't know what? Yeah you ready alight? Cool po little kid with Fox Bro Kim, Kevin mar or Chris Rock. Wow, I'm going with Christian I was good alcohol Onleen. I don't either quality control music or t d E man. So to me, it's two different types of It's like it's just one questions. I got it. You know this is m It's it's like bad boy and live that's

fucking phenomenal. You gotta pick one, man, I'm living with's gonging with top okay, cash money at that brong cash money Okay, that is the quintessential right now, eminem m g k or geez ham on that and that is called the quicker time side. That was all. I'm sorry. So, I'm sorry. I love I love my ship. I'm just being so now we got us all together? Huh, what what's going on? I got a chicken wing. You got a chicken wing over there, chicken wing of chick away

sick so yo. So now this is the first loud experience. What's it called without experience. Damn you named it the Loud experience times Strange Champs experience experience. I got one more shot left to me before I wrap it up. Do you realize the rabbit up the shot? The shot exit? Yeah, shot exit speech rabbit UPO. Yeah, that's so safe. It's safe. So we asked every way show that comes here, and we asked every you know, I guess to come. Yeah,

what is your favorite error in the hip hop? Give us a timid ten ten years spent or give us this your fucking army us. It doesn't matter. I mean, I'm gonna say my ladder okay, and now his loud can you assump is loud? That is that a ten year for one year of what year? Two thousand two? It's definitely yeah. I think it won that one. Yeah, I think. All right, okay, all right, I agree ninety two two thousand or two. Have we think the best

era bestr Yeah, ninety two two thousand two. I agree? Well, well, hold on, hold actually no, no, I gotta say eight. I gotta say, man, I'm probably also biased, you know. I think the time when I went but to two thousand and seven, that era that was really driven by Rockefeller rough Riders. M hm to me, that one my favorite name. I had another run from two thousand to two thousand ten, which might even be bigger than that

when Vanner got it. This is a kind of bad and yeah, just sport the city and heat doing different sort the city would like everything, right, No, no, you guys are killing it big up to David Banner. He's a big friend of the show as well. He might be giving us a surprise music David. That's basically takes some shots. So I see loud, motherfucking records, Steve, motherfucker rip John, We're fucking ready act that we're all here. I am gonna take this down. That's wants you to know. Man.

You know, in our game neue time people get you know, ten years or more, and they want to kick us out of this game. And the thing is, the more you get seasoned your wine, the more better it tastes. The morning you get knocked down, the better you got up. Nobody thought that was good, right, s RC might not have been as cool as Live, but it was just as big as not bigger. So before we get up out of here, everything's going And how did the health like how did the health like just up? Yeah, like

what was going on? I never went to a doctor. You're you're like really black. That's like I didn't go to the doctor thirty years Okay, damn yeah that's really black. Continue. So it was my so if I went to a doctor that he would told me my blood pressure was sucked up like shore, it was stopped up, getting the boss a lot of stress games, weight that I shouldn't have gained. That was that was before. So just I mean I died three times? Wow? Wait you said he

died three times? Um the table? I mean where was it during the table emergency? In the emergency room? Yeah, they shocked him three times a shock? Who shocked? Do you remember that? So it was Christmas Eve six years ago with this best Christmas Eve. I was playing my oldest Sun was still in high school, but he was a basketball player. He dunked on me and he was hanging from the rim and his nuts was in my face.

So I so I punched him in the face, not out of anger, joking around like this is the most disrespectful a sunk and ever a dude to a spot. So my ex wife is from Trinidad, so she sees what's going on and her accents. She starts jelling at me, calling me an animal, this, that, But we're laughing. Next thing, you know, I can't breathe all right, and I don't have chest pains, but I have a pain in my back around. I said, maybe I pulled the muscle from the swing. I mean, I had no idea what it was.

I said, something doesn't matter. She goes, just take a shower and go sleep. It's Christmas. Seed. No, we're in. We're in close enough. I go, I'm staying in her guesthouse was very beautiful too as well. I'm staying in a guesthouse. I call nine one, take his annex and take a shower. They came and said, oh, you gotta take you in. He took me and remember them cutting my shirt. Tell me I am having an art attack. And there's the doctor. Actually, the doctor who was in

the emergency room was my father's doctor. He goes, are you related to Julie Rifkin. I'm like yeah, he goes, I'm his doctor. So I felt some type of because he lived down here. Oh my dad, yeah, um, because the doctor was Yeah, the doctor was my dad's doctor. So I felt literally and next thing, you know, the thing that they put in your throat to keep your breathing. I ripped it out and yeah, not a good looking that.

It's just kind of it's kind of it's kind of weird, like you're talking about your U. But I don't know if I funked up my lion next um and I was in the hospital for a week and ever since then, you know, God bless me, you know, so just God bless amen. So can you say hold before that, no lessen to the jay Z story. Yeah, man, you guys were leaving. No before that. You have to get a jay Z story because I feel like this was like twice that you drive like, so what what? What exactly happened?

And it was the time right around the time that I threw the chair, you know. So it was like, DMG never let me sign Jack or Rocket Fellow. So that's the real story. I mean, I

would never pass on something like that. But because I'm like big face Gary, I don't know. I see, I don't. I don't know Gary, because b face Gary his a subject was he came to do you guys, um and you didn't sign. We didn't. We didn't do. But I wanted I had listened to me. If Mattie's got free brought something right, I signed punt on the spot without hearing a record because Maddie showed up at

the office, did the same Maddie from the source. Yeah yeah, ready, see So that's that's how I signed. That's how I signed Matty was in the the office here, No I found punt was. So me say around eleven o'clock and Maddie, who has she had an office with, is in the office. I'm like, what the funk are you doing here again? I got a six figure of royalty check waiting for him that he hasn't picked up in six weeks. Maddow, here's an ant your meeting punk. I'm like, you came for this. The second day, walk into the meeting Joe

I said, your job to make the ricket and your head push do you want to hear this? And that's how the deal was done. I couick the boy. It was tim and the bout called bigger about them. He was more lawyer at the time, and the deal was done within a week. And what what and you

go did you did you think? Like? Because all right, Joe at the time, Um well, I'm not inven sure Joe was kind of gold time. No it wasn't. It wasn't even gold. But he was funny as how. He made me laugh. It was when night. I guess Chris was managing him for a minute two but right, yeah, yes, yes, So there was one day meet and Chris were on the way to play bowling, had to stop at the studio. You and Christmas all the way what played basketball? Okay?

All right, and Joe was outside the studio. I don't know Joe at the time, but he cracked a joke. The window was open, and I mean I was just laughing. So, like I said, I can only judge you, but how do you treat me? You know? And that's how I'm going to treat you. It was like the Black Emergent talk like up so test for the very Crow saying it's before and everything knew that act. They were just like getting hot and they but Drake been hot. He's not supposed to be. He's not supposed to be. He was not. Did you see that year? I heard about it. Yet his fans is terrible class. Let's just be clear. I don't want but Tyler responded he was dope the way he like he came back at his fan, Yeah him to fun him?

Then he no him? Was he not? When I tried signing him Thylan Future Future, which is sucking ill the whole cruise because up the swasticker what they did? What? Yeah? And I guess they were trying to get a reaction out of me, and it was just like a real swastika or the Chinese they drew a real swastick in the conference room the meeting that I was having. Not funny. Oh wow, yeah, okay, I can't. So I was just like as a little to Yeah, not funny. I think
