When we talk about a person who stood on his own, we talked about controversy, we talked about hip hop and and again it's just a person who just said, you know what, I'm gonna do it my way, like motherfucking what's the nigga um um Frankie who went the Frank

Sinatra and he did his way like Frank Sinatra. Stood there, he pulled up in motherfucking Samy shirt on, dueled out, motherfucking Paul Shining, motherfucker doing what you gotta do New York City. We're gonna get to everything. We won't talk as much as we can. I know this is something that the hip hop has been waiting for right now. You know, when I googled his name personally, I kept

seeing just a certain amount of interviews. So I felt like I want to be the guy to give him a fair chance and fish exchange because you know, sometimes when you look at uh, you know, people with another place and exceeds one side, and because it might be one side. So you know, me seeing that, bumped into the guy and kicked it in l A and I was like, yeah, we gotta, we gotta, we gotta make

Usually, um, you know, I google everybody, even if I know everything about these these people career when I when I google people, um uh, obviously one of the biggest things that comes up is the controversy thing. But I don't want to start there. I would rob up. I would rather start

from the beginning. I rather start from the grind because even the name Troy ab that is an actual street in Brooklyns. A lot of people don't actually know that, you know what I'm saying. So so let's take it from there. From the child from the beginning, Um, I stopped. I pretty much had some motivation. I was, I was doing my thing, like a little bit in the streets

or whatever, you know what I'm saying. And I just came to the point where like, you know, somebody the reregged deal, and you know, I'm like man ship they talking about, you know, ship that I'll be living, you know what I'm saying. So I'm like, all right, well let me shoot my shot. And then, um, you know, at first I try to call some DJ's to put me on a mix tape or whatever. I got a

bunch of dogs slammed in my face. And he was in a bunch of early mixtapes of mine, if it wasn't remember I flew out here early and he was in a little We was in a little spot. Matter fact, the spot was big, but we was in the Yeah, that's in fact, we just face somebody else. I'll go with that. Yeah, tell God's great in the paper straight so anyway on you know, I shot, I shoot, I shot my shot at it, and it wasn't working out,

you know what I'm saying. People was like, yo, I'm charging you twelve hunting for to get on the mix tape. And I'm like, damn, I was prepared to pay, you know cup with Honey, I ain't. I'm like, come on, dog, you can't do nothing better. Yeah, djson, and you're getting charged Towelt Honting for the bottom the bottom slap I'm talking about twenty nine, you know what I'm saying. So anyway, I sent me and fuck it, Nick, you told me to honey to put me on the mixape? Okay, yeah

it was you know what? So anyway, great noticed the whole pool was looking at you like she get too much loud noises, she get crazy? Say Anyway, I said, I remember after Colon choking on man mix Safes couple, I got them, but mostly it was like fronting on me. And when the NY could tell me to a Honey, I was like, funk out there, Honey, they get you a dick, you know what I'm saying. And then you know that DJ ain't even around like that no more.

And I took that same towel hunting, and I went and put out my own mixape and that's when I started with I was like I was old, always had like a marketing mind, like, yo, how could I make motherfucker's know about me or listen to me? So I put out the choy Averse fifty cent choy Averse, dip set, Troy Adverse, g Unit and because you know that they was influential to me. But it wasn't like right, that's a fact though, But it wasn't like no, you know, beef and ship. It was like my son's day. Soon's

my son's day soon. And then niggas took too. I went and I sold it. Like I said, I was doing my things. I had a little bit of a little bit of bread. I had like a towel on twenty two's at the time. Ain'tbody from New York to tell you, Like I and I would ride around every block, through every block, every block, every hood. We're not posting up selling CD we run through every block hopping out nigs buying the CDs. If they friend, we make them buy it, you know what I'm saying. And it just

it worked out. And then on Eventually I got a uh, I got hooked up with. I was selling one of my cs on the street on Fulton Street in Brooklyn. Run through the fooling and then on it's doing the old Mansha bass. He plugged me in with Butch Lewis, and Butch Lewis had a label slash uh management old kind, old kind of ship. God bless your dad. And then Butcher brought me on and you know, try to help me with my career. And then you know that was dope.

I ain't never had that. Everything was off the muscle. So he shot help me with my career. But for whatever reason, it didn't really work out, just because I'm used to everything fast paced or whatever. So I took I remember, I hed on like I wasn't never waiting for no labels, no nothing, no management. So I had like I had like about maybe forty tho allars saved up and it's from just me hustling a little bit of crack whatever whatever. And then I went and I

shot my own video Edwin Desina. He was directed. He shot my first video and we and we shot that ship called me like twenty bands and shoot, you know what I'm saying I was like, fuck, but the nigga believed in itself so much that if you ain't invested in yourself and you ain't doing nothing, you know what I'm saying. So I took half my bread invested in myself and then on and butchering them, got my shirt on BT and then they gave me a little buzz.

So after that, I was like, now, man, I feel like, you know, we just parted ways or whatever, but he kept on mentor me the door was always open or whatever. And then on that's when I was like, man, funk this his rapsh It ain't really doing what he's doing. And then that's when I go from projects like Troy a Verse fifty cent fucking on, dips at Verse fifty

cent and and fucking on. That's when it ship changed, the projects like I'm in traffic, you know what I'm saying, on on bricks in my backpack, because at that time I started really hustling, you know what I'm saying. I went from just you know, selling little crack getting the eight ball for for eighty five and sell them to a nigga for a huntred and fifteen dollars. You know what I'm saying to now, um nigga going out of town with it. That's where bricks in my backpack come from.

When I used to be going out of town, I would try to think, like, Yo, how could I not get fucking pinched? You know what I'm saying. So I was like, I would have different little get ups. One of my get ups was I would come with a messenger bag, swiss on me messenger bag, and I have a laptop and a button up shirt, and I'll be walking through a grand century with my laptop like, oh yeah, I'm just fucking black guy who's going to school somewhere,

and you know what I'm saying. But meanwhile, I got a burden the message back, you know what I'm saying. And in the second one, I used to come through with the slippers and a in the basketball shots. That's where ball players swack came from. A lot of people wasn't rocking the Jordan's with the Jordan's slippers, and at least not in New York. So then I used to come through like that with a basketball and the backpack, looking like I'm just a ball of playing a U

or whatever whatever. But meanwhile I had a bird in the backpack, you know what I'm saying. So after that start developing, the music start changing, and you know, by the grace of God, I ain't go to jail and nothing like that. So um, it just went off from there. Bricks in my backpack went big. I dropped. It took me like two two part three to get recognized. And that's when I dropped Bricks in my backpack three and everybody was working with it, like I think pitchfolks, they'd

be giving people zeros on reviews. I don't even know what the funk it was, and Hop shout them smah. She called me going crazy, like yo, Pitchfork gave you a seven point five, Like what the funk you mean it's Pitchfork. Then they give people zeros whatever whatever. And then I was said, oh, ship, and the ship just started taking and if the I dropped, I dropped. They was like it out of Brooklyn, it was its generational gaps.

And then you had out of Brooklyn you had jay Z, you have Fabulous, and now you have tro you know what I'm saying. So I was like, all right, that's dope too, and then I just kept grunning and I dropped. I still have. I had like ship on the radio maybe like Sunday night shows or whatever, and you know that ship was cool. Then I dropped New York City the album. And when I dropped New York City the album,

and that ship just blew up. And then you know what I'm saying, it was called like a classic like that, like your fullest potential would have been like like a bit more powerful had you signed to this major labels, because I remember at one point like that was just it was just every major label was like Troy av Troy,

Troy Troy. They were seeing Troy ad, but they wasn't coming with the bag because at that time, I already I had grounded and I already had got the bag, So you wasn't gonna offer me what I already had in the shoe box. You know what I'm saying, what I have died and work for, I didn't put sweat, equity and the ship. So I feel like in certain ways um signing with a major at the time with it elevating me, but then I feel like I would never had the longevity, you know what I'm saying. And

I'm not a negative. Let me just let me just let me be like Pacific. Times with me, I've chose the brad and then times I've said, you know what I want the relationship. You know what I'm saying. You think you think you know what I'm saying, Like you know it is And I have seen, I have seen the relationships be fake. And I was gonna get the bread of gardless because I already started. So I've already started getting bread. And I'm like, man, I ain't even

I ain't even really that good yet. And Matt, you when I get good, imagine when I put more money into it. So, like I always say, God is the plane of old plans, I don't be having regrets on Damn, I should have took this deal this time because look fast forward. I feel like in what I've seen a lot of artists that take the deal as far as they coming from the city at the time when I'm coming out, they burned out. You know what I'm saying, You might shoot up, and you know I rather had

that absolutely. But one thing about that I will always say, because like listen, I prefer you know the record I made that, I made that very clear, like I prefer But that's just me because at certain times I'm gonna hustle in a lot of different ways, but in certain ways I'm lazy. Like certain ways, I don't really want to go to fifty radio stations, you know what I'm saying. I don't want to go to Like you came up in a different era to where I had to do that.

It was a different time for major record label. Rightly he's coming into it's all shifting. So what I'm trying to say is someone told me something one time. He had a he had a terrible record label, terrible deal, and the label spent two or three million on them. Though, and although he had a terrible deal, he got out of the deal and he said that two or three

million promotion they could never get back. So so so I looked at it like even though he was a failure, it was also a plus because he couldn't take back that star power that day gave him, you know what I'm saying. So I feel like it's a good and bad I feel like in your situation, you know, obviously

you know, um, you've done phenomenal for yourself. But I believe like as far as started like superstardom, like you would, I know, we had the New Pocket all that, but they would have actually really been like like I mean not to say it's not what I'm but I just see him like as far as star Powers, like you know, the cross over, the white people appell like you know, you still getting fund up. I've got a lot of white people look at my streams. That's a fact that

you know what I'm saying. Like, but like I say, man, you can't, you can't really you just gotta go with what you know, you know what I'm saying. At that time, I stayed independent out of necessity, like and I don't trust. I gotta keep grunding. I know if I ground more to Mark, grunting mom to get And then you get in a situation where you're signed to a label, you get the bag, you get the promotion. But how many countless artists can't get off for label, you know what

I'm saying, or how many you feel exactly? And then looking like even my situation, I came home from jail and ship, I couldn't do no shows. I was on house arrests. I couldn't do nothing, couldn't move. Imagine, I couldn't put out on music because now labels I wanna sunk with you because you're scary and controversial and it might be some ship so me being able to put out my music. You're right, but I gotta give me to like the benefit uh Devil's advocate, I think they say.

But some labels will go go that saying sometimes, like I'm just saying, the way I look at it, I always feel like it's like I'm the underdog. You know what I'm saying. Everybody know my story to underdog, so I always I always go into the game like man, I'm gonna get the show into the stick straight up post like I alway, no matter what you're example, like no one was signed to Neil Levin. But what people don't know is Nil Levine was at Compons every one

of Compons court dates. Like you know what I'm saying, He records like he was at everyone and like that ship meant more to us than get in the bag at the time. But being or the big bage wasn't independent. That was a form of independence. It had this but yeah, yeah, but what what I'm saying is that's that that support sometimes is needed. I mean, not the way I'll eat, the way I come, Like I say, I'm an undidog, and I always I go off for himself. So like

with support like that ain't ship. I already learned not to expect it and not to need it because when it's not that, then what you're gonna do, you're gonna be funked up in the game. So I don't be caring about I'm not so funny you weren't gonna sign with death Jam. I don't know what I felt like when you like it was he was around the death Jam like through my boy Roger, and Roger put me in touch with now. But I don't sunk about you now in Cato shout the Cato. run the championship. But I ain't gonna hold you if you want to look at if you want to really be on the record, I'm the richest independent together out in New York City to be still going on the record, I'm the only independent nigger with a gold record ever. Period makes you notice for that movie, I don't even see like when I when I'll be talking my ship, I don't even talk on facts anything. Even if I'm

talking about the enemy, I'm only dealing it back. But for some reason, some timeing your confidence make motherfucker's insecure. Said they gold Chad just cocky each other. My cocky, These my accomplishments that I worked for and nobody helped me with. You know what I'm saying, So I know full fact, like all right, cool, I might have shot. I might have been hot in two thousand and sixteen when I got uh signed. If I saw a label man two thousand and nineteen, shore I've done on eleven cribs.

Have don't got full culture. You haven't gone for each other because he blew it old you look how much nigger you see it was hot there they got the bench from that year. but if your records reacted, there was an incubator. So it was so so you know, so you so Tommy Boy staff will come in and do and do the services. But predominantly we were always signed to an independent too. Technically time was an independent to Warner came and once Warner comes that they come with that big bag. Ain't no one independent. So anyway, so I had the independent grind, had the independent ground because Penalty they had twilve workers,

so it had the independent grind. But when that budget open and in R E came and Tommy Boy came and said hold on said, I got a big up time bore. I know we did a whole episode shooting on them, but I wasn't part was there, but I gotta picked them up as well when Tommy Boy did come and say hold on, this guy's the bag and they spent the bag. It was a lot easier going on the road from going from The War Report, which is one of the best albums ever, and then going

from r E. My Memories is in Aura. I'm just saying fine now because not because of you know, the material or anything, but it was it was finally like, you know what I did, the independent, super independent ship, and then when I had that, it was it was kind of easier. And it was just like you know, again, when you made the Independent, you gotta go to every radio station. But when you got that major bag, you can. You don't have to go to every radio station. You

could go to Florida and just go to Miami. If you're independent, you gotta go to Tampa. You gotta go to Jacksonville, you gotta go to Orlando. Everybody really should. Everyone really should. What I'm saying is, but when you when you're on amazing, you just go to that That made market in that city. You just go to Chicago. You to take a lot of chess, and I got chess issues. You know what I'm saying. I know I

ain't gonna never let myself down. I ain't gonna never have to be like yo, I need the budget opened up to myself. You know what I'm saying. I ain't gonna never not go out for myself. Or you might have somebody on the label bitch and now they're mad at you and they front. You know what I'm saying, which is just a loan at the end of the day, which is just a big loan, because you might, you don't know, you might be one of the few artists that that looked out in that situation. At the end

of the day, they bought the deal, they paid. That was later on in life. That was I kept going one time, I still had Yes, they got me out and everybody's gonna survive the way you didn't get come out. And that was also awesome situation with me. I can't lie to you like when def Jam came and they and they bought it out, and I remember when um Tom Silman said, well we needed an extra such and such and we all can set. We'll tell him he happened with his morning paper when Niggs used to get papers.

So I'm like, oh, that was hard to be like, that was hard that they went hard for me, you know what I'm saying. But the thing about it is that if you would being on a major sucks when they three sixty you out, meaning because if you know what I'm saying, like like back then, like you know, that was our choice. It was gold major or be

super super super independent. But the thing about it was you never give up your motherfucking merchandise and and never give him up your motherfucker you're publishing, and never give up your motherfucking live show. And you could, Yeah, back then, you could really make an We knew that bad thing. Um, I don't know because they no one told me. No one told me. I found that ship out work.
