of the topic of optimism. Optimism is key to health and longevity, and this has been argued over the centuries whether or not it's healthier to be pessimistic or optimistic. Who lives longer? Is it the angry old man down the street or old woman down the street that's gnarly, angry and negative and pessimistic, or are those who live longer that woman or man down the street, who are happy and healthy and joyful. Who lives longest? As defined
in dictionary. We should remember that optimism is being hopeful and confident about the future or the successful outcome of something. Research shows that the key to making healthy life choices might depend on an optimistic mindset. Would you consider yourself a pessimist or an optimist? I ask you, well, the way you perceive the world can significantly impact your life. Embracing a positive outlook may not only enhance your well being,
but could also add years to your life. As former President Theodore Rosenfeld wisely observed, and I'm going to quote him here quoting believe you can and you're halfway there. Close quote. So we found an interesting article about how optimism is key to exceptional longevity, because who doesn't want to live and live as long as you can healthily. Research shows the key to making a healthy life choices
might depend on an optimistic mindset. An analysis of data from more than sixty nine thousand women in the Nurses Health Study and more than fourteen hundred men in the Veterans Administration Affairs non Formative Aging Study found that optimism is specifically related to an eleven to fifteen percent longer lifespan.
The participants of these studies have been monitored since nineteen seventy six women and nineteen eighty sive six men, respectively, and they found that optimism seems to increase the odds of living to the age of eighty five and beyond, so you can become a octogenarian if you're optimistic and live past that, perhaps to becoming a centenarian one hundred years or greater, which is defined as exceptional longevity, especially when you consider the longevity in the United States is
going down. In other countries are kicking our butts in longevity, yet we spend more on the sick care system get less out of it. Why is that? And we know that things like diet and smoking and alcohol use, as well as mental health conditions and financial means, all of those impact our longevity. But the benefits of optimism being optimistic and it's easy to do that, You just have to train yourself for it. If you're a pessimist, I guess. But some people or just optimistic by their nature or
by their upbringing. Optimism, as defined by a study published in PNAS in two nineteen twenty nineteen, is a psychological attribute characterized as the general expectation that good things will happen. In other words, they're always looking at the glasses half full rather than half empty, or the belief that the future will be favorable because one can control important outcomes.
Optimism can also be defined as a doctrine that this world is the best possible world, and every day we hear just the opposite, don't we in the news or somewhere. People are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors when they have an optimistic worldview, according to a review in Circulation research. According to the review, optimistic individuals tend to have goals as well as the added confidence to reach them,
making them less likely to engage in unhealthy impulses. What are they saying that, Well, they're saying that pessimistic people don't give a hoot, and because of that pessimistic attitude, they take more risks, saying, well, you know, I'm gonna smoke anyway, I'm gonna die young. I've heard this in my own practice many times. I've asked chronic smokers why they smoke, knowing that it can increase the risk of cancer, lung disease and everything else, and they go, well, you're
gonna We're gonna all die sooner or later. So I'm just going to enjoy and puff away. Okay, that's your choice. But optimism has also been linked to healthier biomarker profiles, including healthier lipid levels i e. Cholesterol, lower inflammation levels, less heart disease in older men, and improve pulmonary function in older men. Optimism is a protective factor for cardiovascular disease and helps people cope more effectively with stress, anxiety,
and depression. So find a way to be optimistic is what the outcome of this is. But according to a doctor Misra, who is certified in integrative and internal medicine, in looking at the study, saying and I quote, we are continually uncovering the deep connection between the mind and
the body. In the context of healing, individuals with more positive outlook tend to experience enhance immune responses, which means they're going to get less common golds to COVID, they get better sleep, they eat healthier, and they increase their physical activity close quote. Now these factors contribute to a
reduced risk of obesity. Of course too, if you're moving around and making better choices with food, you're not going to be as over as likely to be come overweight or become obese, and that's going to drop your cardiovascular disease risk as well. So optimism is linked to so many attributes health wise, including a stronger immune system to decrease your risk of getting ill in the first place,
from the common cold to the big Sea cancer. Optimists compared to pessimists, tend to handle stress more effectively too, by engaging in proactive coping tactics, and are less likely to experience detrimental aspects of the chronic stress which we are all under to a certain degree. Right, So it's not easy to eradicate negative self talk one hundred percent of the time. But the more positive self talk you engage in, the more likely you are to stay healthy

And if you can't find anybody who's uplifting, start reading books. There are positive, uplifting, motivational books. Robert Schuler, Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins. I mean, there are books that you can purchase and many others that will help you to better understand how to reset your mind in terms of thinking positively and being optimistic and taking advantage of all the attributes and all the benefits of being optimistic as opposed to pessimistic, and having your health circle the drain in

Dan More Sound Tennessee. I've just been diagnosed diabetic two and I like your comments and prescribing five hundred milligrams and net foreman, and I'm scared to death of it and I need to have some advice. What are my alternatives? Thank you?
All right, Dan, Thank you first for your phone call, and thank you for thinking out the box in consideration of what it is that you're getting ready to swallow. I think if more people did what you doing, and that is questioning what they're getting ready to get into. Meaning this is going to be a drug that your doctor has prescribed for life. I mean, it's not that with type two diabetes, using this drug, you're likely to
be on it for the rest of your life. And if you look up the side effects of it, it's a great drug. There's no question about it. For lowering blood sugar. Met Foreman's been around for a long time, but it has lots of potential adverse side effects. And further, it takes away your power, the power to know that you can reverse type two diabetes in the beginning stages or in the chronic stage. I've seen it. You can
prevent it too by the same lifestyle. What you need to be thinking about dan and you're not alone, because it's on the rise type two diabetes. You need to be thinking about how you can get back into an exercise pattern. It is quintessential that you exercise in order to reverse what you have going on right now. Type two diabetes are insulin resistance, the pre stage, the pre diabetic stage, which oh my gosh, so many people are
in the pre stage of diabetes. Insulin resistance rolls over to frank type two diabetes and more and more people are getting it. We used to call it adult onset diabetes, but so many children are getting it now because they're eating junk food and not exercising and becoming obese that we had to quit calling it adult onset diabetes. We abandon that because now it's children and adults. So in your case, you got to get back into your exercise pattern,
becoming more active. That is essential. There's no pill, potion and powder that's going to do it for you dietarily, of course, yes, you should stay away from the simple carbohydrates, the sugars, soda pop. Alcohol is a terrible thing for diabetics. Anything that actively raises your glucose in an expedient way, in a fast way. You need to day away from that and learn what foods can stabilize your blood sugar and which foods spike your blood sugar and try to
moderate that. There are also nutritional supplements in the marketplace that help manage this problem until you can become self sufficient. They exist, they exist, and they are available in health food stores. I'm familiar with a couple I can just name right off the top of my head. Okay, Yes, I've heard of chlorine dioxide and its ability to kill unwanted organisms within the human body. The only problem with using any kind of chlorinated product like chlorine dioxide, it is
highly corrosive. It all depends on the dilution factor, Tim, and I would be very hesitant to use that without professional guidance because of the potential riskiness of it in a specific concentration. You need to get that right if you use it at all, because any kind of a chlorinated product can be corrosive. You know, if it's powerful
enough to kill cancer cells in the first place. My suggestion, if that's of interest to you, you find an integrative support providers who can explore that for you and give you a sage advice on how to use it or
how to administer it. Hi, Doctor Bob. My name is Sandy. I live in Cedar City, Utah, and I believe that I have long COVID. It's been a year and a half and I can't seem to conquer it. I'm extremely tired all the time, even with a good night's sleep. I wonder if you could email the therapy you talked about some time ago on your program to help meeting with this issue. Okay, Sandy, thank you very much for your phone call and sorry to hear that you have been suffering for an entire year with symptoms of long COVID, which can be brain fog to fatigue. I mean just there are so many immune problems. It's just a lot of people are suffering from that. And the latest information out on long COVID is that more people who receive the COVID shot we'll call it the covid vaccine, even though it's
not a covid vaccine, it's an experimental genie therapy. More people who got the COVID shot suffer from long COVID symptoms than those people who got COVID infection that didn't take the vacs. That is now being discovered. All right, So yes, you heard me talking about in the past. What is being done to counteract long COVID. I'm glad to hear that you've got some healthy lifestyles going on there. Something that may be aut of great help to you is something called N one oh one lozenges.
