sure. How to improve your memory, that's what I want to talk about, as promised, and boy oh boy talk about some of the weirdest but yet scientifically proven methods on how to improve your memory. Now you might be saying, well, I don't need to improve my memory. I am sharp as attacked. I really can recall stuff. Well, a lot of people can. They forget where they put their car keys, They forget where they laid their last set of cheater glasses down, which room it's in there searching
around for it. They can't remember when they walk through the threshold of a door or went into from one room to the next. They can't remember why they walked into the room and they stopped cold in their tracks, going why did I come in here? Or people notice that suddenly people's names and places and dates suddenly are fading and they sky, yeah, I just it's on
the tip of my tongue. Well, there may be a way to help improve your memory, because simply put, memory there's really a mental activity of recalling information that you've learned or you've experienced. Your memory is stored and as a result of a complex electrical signal system in your brain, which causes the change in the physical structure your brain. And whether you have a stored memory, whether it's short or long term, it depends on exactly how the event
of that information is received by your brain. So the good news is there are ways, as weird as they may sound to you, ways to help improve your memory, your cognition. And we're gonna start with this one that everybody's gonna love, especially you chocoholics in the audience today. The good news is for chocolate lovers. It turns out that a compound in chocolate, the bean, the cacao, a compound in coco can actually help boost your memory.
It's true. Sunshine and vitamin D being converted from cholesterol in your skin. The body shuts down all sorts of functions, including your memory in some instances. So get
some short term sunlight exposure, especially during the winter months. Not to get a sunburn, of course, avoid that, but short periods of sunlight exposure with sunglasses on, if you're out in the you know the bright sun, bright daylight sun you'll help, it'll benefit you. Here's another one. Having sex can boost your memory your long term memory. Twenty fourteen study University of Maryland found the middle aged in this in the case of the animal studies,
middle aged animal products animal studies made more brain cells. In these animals that were exposed to sunlight more neurons after mating, and these neurons, of course, are located in a part of the brain called the hippocampus where long term memories are made, and this stimulation in adults, what is called neurogenesis or the development of neurons, is thought to restore cognitive function. However, after
sexual activity is stopped, the improvement in brain power was lost. There was even another study at McGill University in Montreal revealing that those who enjoyed the most frequent sex registered higher scores on memory tests. It's true. So there you have it. We've got more of these freaky, weird and sometimes hard to explain ways to improve your memory, and we'll get to the rest of them

I wanted to finish this information about how to improve memory with some of the weirdest, scientifically proven methods that you likely have not heard of. We've gone through three of them. Here's the next one. And this may sound really strange to some of you. You can actually improve your memory by
walking backwards. It's true. I have proven it in my own practice with patients who have had trouble with memory. Now, be careful because when you walk backwards, you may stumble, or you may trip on something and fall, So be careful doing this. I would be on grass if I were you, or a sender track or something that's a little bit less harmful if
you do fall backwards. Walking backwards strange. Study twenty eighteen found that people who walk backwards performed better in memory tests than those who stand still or walk forward. University of Roehampton asked one hundred and fourteen volunteers to watch a video and then answer questions a questionnaire about what they could recall, and after watching
the video, participants were split into two different groups. One was told to walk backwards, one was told to walk forward for thirty feet while the control groups stood in place. And sure enough, it was found that those people who walked backwards the walking group that went backwards walked backwards got two more question answers correct on average than the forward walkers and the non walkers. The team deemed that this is an indication that there's a link between the concept of time
and space. It's essential to the way our minds form memories. So as you use your brain in a different way i e. Walking backwards, suddenly the brain starts working better. So get to it. If you're having memory problems. Here's another one, number five eating celery. I mean, how hard would that be to eat more celery to improve your memory? And where are you going to learn about these things aside from here on the Doctor Bob Martin Show. Well maybe nowhere. But I'm glad you're here. I'm glad
you remember to tune in. I know the taste of celery is not, you know, what a lot of people like, and some people never acquire the taste of celery, But eating it may be worth it, as scientists have found it contains a memory boosting compound. The team from the University of Illinois studied the effects of lutiolan Lutiolan, which is also in peppers, and
they found it worked on the and the behavior in animal natial model. They fed them these substances salary in these peppers and this ludiolan to a control group or supplemented their diet for four weeks, and then they looked at their learning and memory task and it was found that the mice who consumed the ludiolan supplement, which you can get it from salary and get it from peppers, those who took this ludiolan supplement in their diet performed better in memory and cognition tests
than their peers. Here's another one. Mozart classical music has been found to have numerous health benefits, including lowering your blood pressure, helping you to de fight infections, and yes, to improve your brain and your memory. How can I help you? Yes, I have a question. My brother was diagnosed with macular degenerations several I think it was a couple of years ago. My sister in law stud and he recently had we thought a detached retina as of yesterday, and they were going to send him by amulance to get some help and im to find out he didn't have he had macular degeneration. It was the vessels behind the eye, yes, causing his problems. So what can I recommend that maybe I could get or to help him in
some way because he's got spots. I found out that he was watching Okay, the doctor wasn't touching in the other eye, and he's already lost the vision and his eye is completely gone one of them. Hello, thank you. When COVID hit, we started taking original and my question is should we make this a permanent daily supplement. Okay, that's a good question. I wish more people would ask this question. When you are challenged and you
know that you're around microbes or bugs or viruses. Let's say you're getting on an airplane. Oh my gosh, have your oreganol with you. Take it before, during, and after. If you are around the grandkids and you know they're sneezing and wheezing and coffin and spitting and things are going into the air, pump up the volume on taking the oreganol oil. you? Well? I have severe balance problem and it's gotten so bad that I get, you know, down to dry jeeves, I move around. I had to go to the hospital. They told me that there's crystals in my ear and one evidently dropped down in the wrong place and affected me and that it would, you know, eventually disappear. How long has has been going on, Jennie about two and a half weeks. Two and a half
weeks and prior to that, was there anything that happened? Did you hit your head, were you involved in a car accident, did you fall? Was there anything? Did you have a cold, did you have some confection, anything that you can think of that may have set this into motion. Nothing. I'm very healthy. I'm eighty two years old. I take no medication, just supplements that you recommend. All right, well, let me tell you this. This can happen. These are crystals that can dislodge that
are in the inner ear. And there's a maneuver that I want you to try at home and maybe ask your doctor or nurse in your doctor's office to show you via some type of system, face time them and they can show you how to do what is called an Eppley maneuver. Epple maneuver. In fact, you can go online and just google it and that you can find out how to do it. And the basis of it is to help the little crystals, these little calcium crystals that build up and sometimes disclodge in your
in your ear, your inner ear area, the cochlea area. There's little hairs in there. They're very sensitive. And one of these little crystals gets dislodged in there, it can cause that problem. And you lie in your back. You go lie on a bed and you put your head just over the edge of the bed and you slowly turn your head back and forth. You rotate the head to the right and left. Not enough to cause further equilibrium problems even though you're gonna be lying down. But I don't want you
to vomit or get sick. But do it very slowly and try that. But you should get instructions on doing this epily maneuver to do it correctly. And the idea is that you're going to try to facilitate gravity and movement of that area to help improve it. Over time, this can be helped. Now, I also find great benefit of putting hot and cold up against the ear to dilate and constrict, and
dilate and constrict. That helps to increase the blood supply, flushes it and help. So you go with a moist hot water bottle up against the ear followed by an ice pack for maybe a couple of minutes, just enough to get the area, heat it up and then cooled down. And you'd do that over and over throughout the day and the night. You know, not waking or not sleeping two hours, but when you're awake maybe every hour or every two hours. Breast cancer rates are rising. We know this. Each year in the United States, about two hundred and sixty four thousand cases of breast cancer diagnosed in men, and about twenty four hundred I'm sorry in women and about twenty four hundred in men. A leading health panel has recommended that the age at which women are regularly screened for breast cancer should be cut from age fifty down to age forty. The US Preventive Services Task Force said an extra twenty million women
in their forties would benefit from having mammograms every two years. Now, how is it? How is this recommendation for preventive health to have mammograms. That's a reactive test. That's after the fact. Getting a mammogram does not prevent breast cancer. Ladies and gentlemen. It's reactive, not proactive. In other words, do something about it after it's already broken, after the diagnosis.
That's crazy stuff. They call it preventive medicine. I guess how about providing better education about what to increase about you know, about how to decrease the risk of breast cancer in the first place, how to prevent it. Having a mamogram will not prevent breast cancer. In fact, it increases breast cancer risk because of the ionizing radiation. Be it as minor as it is,
it does do that. How about this novel idea? How about teaching people how to prevent breast cancer or any other form of cancer via a healthy lifestyle or modifying one's health lifestyle, for example, about reducing or eliminating alcohol that'll drop out breast cancer, yet they don't recommend it in this task force. How about reducing or eliminating high fat saturated diets, the SAD diet, the standard American diet. How about using healthy fats such as avocado, all of
coconut, and omega three in flax. Don't use tobacco. How about exercising regularly that drenk decreases breast cancer, but yet this task force doesn't recommend it. They're just saying, get more X rays ten years earlier. This is crazy stuff, but that's mainstream conventional medicine. They don't talk about helping people
to learn these things. Even getting adequate sunlight or eating seven to nine servings of organic venchles when possible, like cruciferous vegetables, will decrease a person's risk of getting breast cancer. But this crazy US Preventive Task Force Services task Force doesn't even mention it. All thereabout is taking more X rays which will increase the risk of breast cancer outright, but get it ten years earlier. It's amazing. We call this a healthcare system. We don't have a healthcare system
