Let's make this hour count.

So first up, what I want to bring to your attention listeners is the overlooked cure for restless legs, and we're gonna put some calm in those legs today. For years, doctors have treated restless leg syndrome syndrome with drugs that, wait for it, turned patients into gamblers. But now experts confess we messed up the fix. It's a supplement that's hiding in plain sight. So I want to get into this with you. It's I want you to picture this. It's two am in your legs. They feel like they've

appeared on Dancing with the Stars. That's restless legs syndrome. It affects one in ten people, mostly women, and for decades the go to treatment was a dopamine agonist like rapoanol. These drugs they boost dopamine. That's the brain's movement manager. But the twist here is dopamine also controls pleasure. Que these side effects like compulsive gambling, hypersexuality, even suicidal thoughts. I want you to take Joe Lee for instance. She

was She's a mom's rights advocate. She spiraled into suicidal thoughts on these medications for it. Or there was an anonymous woman who sued who tried to suing the NIH the National Health Institute, after blowing her life savings on candy crush doctor Christy Anderson. She was a sleep neurologist. Amidst they're recalling patients the drugs they're just too risky. Now I want you, I want to enter iron here,

this iron epiphany. That's the unsung hero. It turns out low iron disrupts dopamine's path to the brain even when you're not anemic. Studies show fifty percent of restless leg syndrome patients improved with iron supplements, and that's just as low as forty miligrams a day or also ivy iron infusions. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine now calls iron the first line of treatment. And this is why iron is

so key. It's like a delivery truck for dopamine. If you don't have iron, the dopamine gets lost in transit. If you fix that iron, you fix the glitch. These researchers confirm this in twenty nineteen that iron eases restless leg syndrome even in non anemic patients. And why is dopamine the key? It's a neurotransmitter that's vital for muscle movement and low iron levels can lead to involuntary movements like restless leg. I want you to meet Emma, who

is fifty eight. She battled restless leg syndrome for forty years. She had symptoms like itchy knees, sleepless nights, and failed medication. Then she tried ivy iron infusions. Three weeks later her symptoms completely vanished. That was one infusion and no relapse of symptoms. But here's the rub ivy iron infusions They could be costly, sometimes over one thousand dollars a treatment, and insurance rarely covers it, especially for restless leg syndrome.

Professor Toby Richards, who as an iron expert, puts it bluntly, Why force patients into these risky pills when a fifteen minute IVY iron drip could cure them? Well, doctor Bob, I'll tell you why iron solves the problem. Why would anybody want to do that? Your reliance on prescriptions decrease, and big pharma doesn't keep cashing in on you. But if you're ready for it to tackle restless legs, this is a roadmap that I think listeners need to do.

They need to demand a blood test. They need to ask their their general practitioner or healthcare provider for a ferretin test which measures iron stores. And that's the ideal level. It's the gold standard there. Above seventy five units per liter is what would be considered a standard to help

cure or help with that restless legs. And then I also encourage listeners to pop a pill, but not the pill they're thinking of when medication that it's daily iron supplements of sixty five milligrams roughly, but also with a vitamin C supplement because vitamin C boosts absorption. And I also consider to start eating smarter, load up on lentils, spinach, and red meat. If they're not vegetarian vegans, they compare

lentils with lemon for that extra absorption. And then if all this doesn't increase it and you still have restless legs, you need to push for iv iron infusions. You need to lobby that with your practitioner. Also, I consider say call your insurance company, check your insurance coverage, and if not, lobby them to say, hey, this is something that works, it'd be much much more affordable over a lifetime of medication management. I'm doctor Bob.

Speaker 3

Well, this is clinical nutrition one oh one. We were learning this twenty thirty years ago. That restless legs syndrome, which is where your legs, ladies and gentlemen, you try to sleep at night and your legs want are dance. They just keep twitching and dancing and twirling in the bed. And yet your dog tired and you can't let the legs won't calm down. That is your body telling you

that something's out of balance. And since the medical profession in conventional medicine as almost like zero training and clinical nutrition, you can't expect them to know about these things. That's why you need to have different forms of healthcare providers

in your repertoire of healthcare, like a chiropractor. This is basic information that chiropractors learn because they learn nutrition and they go on to become Board Certified in Nutrition, which is a three year additional program in addition to the eight years of college that are required by chiropractic physicians to become physicians. And so this is basic stuff. Now, there are other reasons for restless like syndrome. One, you can be dehydrated, so make sure you stand on top

of your water. Sedentary lifestyle, if you're sitting all day long, you need to get up and move around because that can also exacerbate restless like syndrome. If you're using caffeine, it also destroys and makes worse the iron deficiency. It actually blunts your ability to absorb iron and it takes iron out of the body. So caffeine is a problem

with people who have restless leg sin. And as doctor Brockman pointed out, if your blood test, your total iron and your iron binding capacity, they should all be done in your blood test. If they're low, then you supplement along with foods that are high and iron. And if that ferretin that he mentioned is below it's normal optimal range, which is around one hundred. That also, in addition to meaning you're having problems with iron, your be complex deficient.

So you should be taking B complex vitamins right along with an iron supplement until your levels go up, your symptoms are reduced, you're sleeping better at night, and then you can get off the iron itself and just go to a multi that has the iron in it. All right, Doctor.

Speaker 2

Brockman, Yeah, I think that's a great great points there, I think, and Doctor Bob, but we're heading up to a break and when we come back, we'll get to that Health Alterna of the Week is going to tie into this, and listeners, you are listening to the Doctor Bob Martin Show.

Speaker 4

I catch.

Speaker 5

Yes up on your.

Speaker 2

Welcome back. You're listening to the Doctor Bob Martin Show, and I'm your co host, doctor Adam Brockman, and I want to remind listeners we're about to get into some calls and if you have health related questions, we've got the answers. Call our toll free hotline at eight hundred and six zero six eight eight two two, where two licensed physicians, Doctor Bob myself are ready to assist you

on your journey to better health. And whether you're curious about natural remedies, wellness to or anything in between, we're here for you. So grab that phone and give us a call eight hundred and six or oh six, eight eighty two to two. Your health is just a dial away, and we want to get right into the health Alternative of the week. All right. Our Health Alternative of the Week is going to tie in to the first part of the show today, and I want to encourage listeners

to about this liquid iron revolution. And it's not just for restless legs. What if I told you that your healthy energy drinks are robbing you of that energy that you're looking for. That morning coffee ritual might be blocking the very nutrient that keeps you vibrant. This week's game changing alternative is another It's not another stimulant like that. It's Sun Warriors Oasis liquid iron. It's a plant powered secret to real energy and it works from the inside out.

Here's the truth. Nearly one in three women and one in five men are iron deficient and they don't even know it. The symptoms they include fatigue, brain fog, restless legs. Like we talked about all masked by just they think they're just busy. It's not the case here. In that daily coffee or the black tea, it blocks iron absorption by nearly sixty percent. We're caffeinating our way into exhaustion.

Most iron supplements they don't really taste good. They cause constipation, they taste metallic in nature, and they're harsh on your gut. But sun Warriors Liquid Iron, it's a plant based revolution with fairir care iron. It's gentle and absorbable. They also get it's got vitamin C already in it and that helps to boost that uptake and there's no stomach wrecking. There's a flavor like mixed berries. It's just delicious. And as a natural medicine physician, I hate just band aating

like energy drinks. They're robbing Peter to pay Paul. Real energy comes from nourishing your cells, and iron is the oxygen taxi your blood desperately needs. Sun Warrior's formula for this. It's genius. It's vegan friendly, no heme iron from animals. There's no iron overload risk. Your body absorbs only what it needs, and this is how I use it. I take it with a fresh squeeze juice in the morning because vitamin C absorbs that helps boost it, and I

use that instead of coffee. You can find Sunwarrior Oasis Liquid Iron at Sunwarrior dot com and at finer health food stores like Natural Gris Gros who carry Sunwarriors full line of products. And here's a tip, grab Sunwarriors Iron Plus Energy sampler pack and find out what your favorite flavor is there. I also like raspberry lemon. It contastes like a healthier Capri Sun. So this week's energy experiment is swapping one coffee for this liquid Iron plus juice combo.

Notice the steady vibrancy with it. There's no jitters and no crash. It's just real fuel. So you can be your own ironman or ironwoman. Doctor Bob.

Speaker 3

Excellent Health alternative of the Week, Doctor Brockman, thank you for that. I think a lot of people are going to benefit by that. It is available in health food stores nationwide, but look for it at natural grocery stores if you're lucky enough to have one near you, or you can hit their website to find a whole host of Sunwarrior products over at Naturalgrocers dot com, Naturalgrocers dot com. What else should we have, Doctor Brock.

Speaker 2

I think let's get right back into calling questions. Next up, we have Pat from North Iowa.

Speaker 6

Hello, thank you for taking my call. My name is Pat and I'm from Benton or If Iowa. Is it possible to get too much magnesium in a supplement? Thank you? And I ensure your show very much by now.

Speaker 2

Well, thank you Pat for your kind for the question, and I'm also glad to hear that you enjoy the show. We love hearing from listeners just like yourself. Let's talk about magnesium here for a second. It's one of my absolute favorite minerals in natural medicine. I use it a lot of times in my toolbox. Actually, it supports over three hundred enzymatic reactions in the body, everything from nerve conduction in muscle relaxation to energy production. It also helps

with blood sugar regulation and of course sleep quality. I think we talked about that several times on here, Doctor Bob, and the question you ask here can you get too much? And the answer is yes, but with some context. Most people are deficient in magnesium, especially due to stressful lifestyles that burn through those magnesium reserves, so in most cases

supplementation is not only safe, but it's necessary. And that said, too much magnesium, especially from supplements, can cause some problems. It's typical in the form of loose stools or diarrhea and nausea or abdominal cramping. And this is when you need to be cautious on it. If you have a kidney disease, you should. You should make sure to not supplement magnesium without the direct supervision of somebody that knows what they're doing, like a naturopathic physician, a chiropractor, or

a holistic practitioner. You don't want too much if it's going to stress those dnees out. The sweet spot here is most people benefit from somewhere about two hundred to four hundred milligrams per day. It's ideal to split if in two doses if you can. I often recommend magnesium glycinate or magnesium mallee. Both are well tolerated and absorbable, especially for those dealing with anxiety, sleep issues, or muscle tension.

Like we mentioned, I like brands like Essential Formulas, has a great one here in sun Warrior, which we just mentioned in the Health Alternative. They have high quality magnesium blends that are designed with bioavailability in mind. That's that uptake that your body needs, meaning that your body can actually use what you're taking in Look for those forms that are gentle, it's general in the stomach and pair it with some other cofactors that enhance that absorption rate. And doctor Bob, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3

Think the colors issue is from bent North, Iowa, my old stomping ground there the quad Cities in Iowa. It's where I grew up in Davin, Iowa. So that kind of brought back some memories. Yes, you don't have to worry typically about being overdosed on magnesium, since it's estimated that about seventy percent of all Americans have magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium deficiency and that is that stems from the fact that due to the farming practices, due to the way that we treat the soil today, you don't have plants that are uptaking enough magnesium. A stock of broccoli or cauliflower or some other vegetable that was replete with magnesium maybe sixty years ago, when we had actual good fertilizer from coalmaneure and other things. Now we're using everything synthetic.

You lose those nutrients when you start messing with the soil, and therefore the plants don't take up as much of the nutrient value, and then when we eat the plants, we don't get the nutrients we need. And that's how

this soul thing starts rolling. Now, with respect to dosage, the upper limit in this depends on the person, their condition, and it should be advised by somebody who's learned in the nutrition area, and that would be anybody without an MD behind their name, uh, because they just basically don't get it. But magnesium, you can go up into the upper limit of a thousand milligrams of magnesium per day

spread out. Most minerals are best taken at the front end of a meal, so take those and you can take it before you go to bed if you want. The magnesium glycinate help you sleep better if you got leg cramps or whatever. But there's all kinds of like six or seven different forms of magnesium that are cleaved, usually to some type of amino acid. You mentioned the glycinate. There's toau eight mal eate. There's all kinds of sit rate forms of magnesium. You find the one that's right

for you, the dosage that is right for you. And if you can't figure it out for yourself, most will do. That's when you start consulting learned healthcare providers that actually have training and knowledge and information about nutrition, and those doctors are doctors of choice in the area of nutrition in addition to the mainstain stay of their profession. That

would be chiropractic physicians, nature pathic physicians, homeopathic physicians. A lot of PhDs also learn clinical nutrition, and doctors of medicine and osteopathy who have actually extra training outside of their core training in functional medicine or integrative medicine. They're also equipped to handle these kinds of problems.

Speaker 2

Sorry, doctor Brockam Okay, Well, I think we're coming up on a break here, so what we'll do when we come back. I think we're going to have a health outrage of the week. And you are listening to the Doctor Bob Martin Show.

spelling out the word doctor. All right, we'll get back to more of the information that we're bringing here today. Stand by, but before we do that, let's talk about pea. Yeah, like green pea. That's the initial for a substance called palmotoy lethanola meine palmotoilethanola mean or pea for short. Is what scientists have figured out is contained in certain foods in very minuscule or minute amounts, yet it has the

ability to help us out with our health. Now, some of the foods that contain this magical, amazing therapeutic nutrient. You can find it in small amounts of egg yolks and other foods, but you got to eat a lot

of it in order to get it. But the scientists finally figured that out how to put it in a supplement form a concentrated forms, so that if you're being troubled with muscle pain, you're not recovering from injuries as fast as you used to, or from sporting events, or you have arthritic symptoms, or you have low range of motion or poor range emotion or mobility, or even cognitive

health problems, and a multitude of other health concerns. This pea nutriish nutrition supplement by Terry Naturally Vitamins is helping a lot of people out and they're being helped in a whole variety of areas of health, including with allergies, respiratory symptoms, even that dreaded fibromyalgia. Pea. The supplement from Terry Naturally Vitamins helps address that because it has strong

potent anti inflammatory action. The researchers investigated the ability to relieve pain in a variety of conditions like sciatica, neuropathy EA, or jaw pain. BA supplementation helped plus the scientific research on the most common forms of arthritis ost arthritis. Supplement with pea to lower those inflammatory elements so that your cartilage no longer is destroyed and you don't have that swelling. Pea has no adverse side effects, no known adverse side effects.

It just helps lower the inflammatory cycle, which then helps the whole body function better. If you want to find out more about the supplement pea, you can find it in finer health food stores nationwide, or you can go to the website Terry Naturally Vitamins dot com. Terry Naturally Vitamins dot com. You're looking for pea, the nutritional supplement. Doctor Brockman, all.

Speaker 2

Right, we're gonna get into our health outrage of the.

Speaker 5

Week, the Juliet Some eats to for the health outbridge because it's nothing, but.

Speaker 2

It's a hospital cafeteria shocker. It's when kale meets a cheeseburger in healthcare's bizarre food fight. Folks, this week's health outrage is equally ironic as it is outrageous. We've got hospitals who should be preaching food as medicine while their cafeterias are slaining more junk food than a seven to eleven. The same institutes are handing out statin prescriptions. They're also peddling sugar laden smoothies and nacho platters that are bigger

than your copey. Here's the scoop that report dropped this week exposing that sixty percent of US hospital cafeterias they still stock sugary soft drinks, deep fried vegetables like onion rains, and so called heart healthy muffins that they have enough sugar to resurrect a t rex and this is why it's bonkers. Nurses are handing out diabetes pamphlets in rooms above a food court selling cinnabon. One hospital ceo actually said,

we have to meet patients where they are. I don't know where exactly they are, but the hospital it's not place I want to be at, which the hospital apparently means that they're knee deep in cheese sauce. And if you think about it, many hospitals now charge fifteen plus dollars for a kale salad, but still give free soft drink refills. Priorities. Right, it's time to walk the walk

for hospitals. They should offer organic options. Maybe they should partner with local farms and not frozen food trucks, and prescribe food vouchers that are healthy instead of just pill bottles. And next time, listeners, you're visiting a hospital and you're going to the cafeteria, ask got any meals that won't land me back in here for six months? Let's make a do no harm apply to the hospital cafeteria as well. That's your health outrage of the week. What do you think, doctor Bob?

Speaker 3

Hospital food is a joke. Everybody knows that it is horrible. I mean, if they believe that there was any relationship between nutrition and health, you would see that practice occurring in the hospital cafeteria and the food that they feed patients while they're in the hospital. I mean, you go there,

what do you get? You get tapioca, you get jello, you get white white bread, you get white milk, And they expect patients to come out of those beds with all of the conditions that they come in there with. No they add to the problem. And this is why we need a healthcare system. We don't have one. I mean,

hospitals are great play. If you roll up into the hospital in an ambulance and you've got gun bullet wounds, gunshots, you've got a fracture, you've had a heart attack or a stroke, or some other extraordinary problem that requires emergency medical care. Yes, we do a fantastic job of saving

lives in that particular area or arena. But when it comes to chronic degenerative problems, where people are wounding themselves on a daily basis with their fork and spoon by what they're putting into their pie hole, and they're not being told by their doctors, their supposed health care providers, they ought to change their diets, they ought to change their lifestyle. They need to be doing this, that, and the other things is stay healthy and stay out of

their offices. Once that begins, we'll start to make strides in this health care crisis that is affecting our nation right now. And I'm so glad that Robert F. Kennedy, who is now the Controller of the Health and Human Services area of our government, is looking at it. He cleaned house over at the joke FDA, CDC. And once we get all of the cancer out of those organizations who are on the take with the pharmaceutical companies and it's trying to practice, you know, the normal stuff that

they've been doing for years. Status quo disease means there's gold in them URLs. Once those are changed around and you change the diet preferences in hospitals sixty percent junk food sugar, we're going to start getting sick people well where they don't need to be in hospitals and they don't get sicker in hospitals, and our nation will be a lot better off as a result of finally moving in the area of having a healthcare system rather than just a sick care system. All right, we'll come back

with more. Stay with us. You're tuned into the Doctor Bob martinshow.

Speaker 4

So, I'm a bottom a number sign.

Speaker 7

The one never single, I'm.

I wanted to keep this conversation going in empower each other to live our healthiest lives. All right, let's get right into a product recall. This week's product recall, I'm gonna let you know about lasteria outbreak that's been

linked to Walmart and Kroger's Ready to Eat meals. Three deaths and at least seventeen hospitalizations have been reported across thirteen states. I want to get you the critical details on this to keep your family safe if you're eating these products. So the recall effects. Fresh Realms Chicken Fetuccini

Alfredo meals. It's sold under two brands, the market side Grilled Chicken Alfredo, which I believe is Walmart's brand with best buy dates of in June twenty twenty five, and there's also Home Chef Heat and Eat Chicken Fetichini Alfredo with best by dates of June again or even earlier than that into May, and lasteria is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, newborn seniors, and those with weakened immune systems. The symptoms start with fever, headaches, and diarrhea, but can

escalate into seizures, meningitis, are even death. Pregnant women may experience mild symptoms, but they risk miscarriage or severe complications for the baby. So if you consume these meals and develop some symptoms even weeks later, contact your health care provider. Lasteria is treatable, but early action is critical. It's been your product, recall. All right, we're gonna get right back into questions. Next up is Shannon from fort Worth, Texas.

Speaker 8

Shannon, fort Worth, Texas. I would like to know is there anything that a person can take. My mother's elderly and she continues to have uinary track in sections, specifically e coali. She lives in her nursing home and she's in continent. Any way you can get rid of your UTIs or e coali without animbiotics. A friend of mine mentioned just yesterday something her doctor recommended. It's about one hundred and fifty dollars machine that looks like a water picture,

and I think it I denizes the water. It looks like it's water put in it, but it does something to that water. The little machine it looks like a picture, and you drink about an ounce or half an ounce a day. I forgot the name of it. But do you know anything else that can get rid of or help the body get rid of UTIs? And my mother has fatty liver and she has also pancreas cancer on stage four. She's not actively dying, but anything that can strengthen her immune system. Thank you.

Speaker 2

All right, Shannon, thank you for your question. There, recurrent urinary tract infections, especially caused by E. Coli, it can be very challenging, especially in elderly patients with complex conditions like you mentioned there. Fatty liver in pancreatic cancer. From a natural medicine perspective, supporting the body's own defenses in creating an environment that discourages bacterial growth is key. So

here's some gentle strategies that may help with it. What you mentioned there, hydration in urine pH Staying well hydrated helps flush the bacteria from the urinary tract. The ionizing water picture that you mentioned it's designed to alter the water pH which can support detoxification and immune function. And while the research there is limited, drinking clean alkaline water can be a supportive habit. I also suggest that you

give her cranberry extract. Cranberry contains compounds that prevent e Coalie from adhering to those bladder walls. You need to look for high quality cranberry supplements or unsweetened juice. I also recommend probiotics. A healthy microbiome is critical here to fight these infections. Probiotics like doctor Oheres can help restore beneficial bacteria in the gut and urinary tract and that

supports immune function and reduces the infection risk. And also need to work on it boosting her immune system and given her cancer that she has cancer in fatty liver, general immune support here is important. I suggest here is supplement chyolic age garlic extract. It has immune modulating properties and an antiox benefits that may help support her overall health.

Also to consider here, I know she's elderly with some of these conditions, but died in lifestyle you know, minimize the sugar and processed foods, focus on anti inflammatory whole foods and ensuring proper rest can help boost that immune system. And of course, given your mother's complex health situation, it's important that any new supplements or approaches are coredated with her, with her healthcare team, assuming that she has multiple health

care providers here with these multiple conditions. We obviously doctor Bob myself, we wish your mother strength and healing in this and thanks again for your question and comment. So we're coming up on another break, but don't go anywhere. We're hitting our final part, which is the health Mystery of the week, and we encourage you to stick around for that. You're listening to the Doctor Bob Martin Show, and welcome back. I'm doctor Adam Brockman and you're listening

to the Doctor Bob Martin Show. I want to remind you as we continue our health health journey together, I want to remind you of a fantastic resources that we have. It's our email health form. If you have those health related questions or topics you'd like us to cover on air, simply send your questions via our health our email form on the website go to doctor Bob dot com. It's spelling out the word doctor D O C t o R Bob dot com. Doctor Bob and myself, we're eager

to provide you the answers and insights you need. Go ahead and send us your way. We are entering the final part of the show here. I want to go ahead and get this health mystery of the week going. Our health mystery of the week is the man who can't feel cold. So what if I told you that there's a man in the Netherlands who literally cannot feel cold. While the rest of us are bundling up, Wim Hawf is climbing Mount Everest in shorts and meditating an ice

baz for hours. This week's health mystery isn't just bizarre. It may challenge what we know about human biology. It's the Iceman cometh I want you to meet. William Hoff calls himself the Iceman, a Dutch extreme athlete who holds twenty six world records for withstanding cold. This is his party tricks. He sits in ice for one hour and fifty two minutes. That's a record Most of us would

die in fifteen minutes. He's ran a marathon in the Arctic barefoot, and he voluntarily spikes his immune response to fight an off injected bacteria. That's just crazy. Scientists initially thought he was a freak of nature until he taught his methods to others. Now this whim Hoff. His breathing technique is backed by peer review studies that show it can reduce inflammation, boost immunity. It even helps with anxiety

and depression. Here's where it gets really weird. Hoff claims his methods taped into ancient human potential, a sort of on switch for dormant biology. But as a natural medicine physician, I'm a little bit skeptical here, but I am fascinated. Cold exposure we do know triggers brown fat activation, which burns calories.
