about today on the show to help preserve your health and your wellness. But begain. We're going to begin today with are the results of our last week's health poll question. If you were with us last week, you know that I asked a question related to having surgery and would you ever allow a surgical robot to operate on you? Yes or no? Robotic surgery is really becoming
more popular, much much more popular these days. Robotic surgery, if you're not aware of it, is generally considered to be safe with low overall complication rates. But adding the robot to the surgical equation inserts another potential entry point for errors into an already very complex and risk fraught arena, the arena of
surgery. Now, it's come to my attention that thousands and thousands of injuries now are being reported as a result of people having robotic surgery, and hundreds and hundreds of deaths have occurred as a result of problems associated with robotic surgery. Now, in robotic surgery, the robot who's doing the surgery translates the surgeon's hand, wrist, and finger movements to guide each instrument in real time
after scaling each movement down in size. For example, one inch movement may be scaled down to a quarter inch, allowing extraordinary surgical precision and operative control. However, things can go wrong, go wrong, go wrong, real wrong, and they have for thousands of people, hundreds of being injured, maimed, disab and hundreds losing their lives in response to allowing robotic surgery.
One such woman I spoke about last week on the program. A Florida woman died after the surgical robot that was being employed or deployed to involve her surgery burned a whole through her intestine. The surgical robot burned the whole through a Florida woman's small intestine during surgery and led to a deadly internal leak. There's also been a lawsuit filed by her husband in this claim, Sandra Sultzer, it was her name from Boca Raton, Florida. She died following a procedure
to treat her colon cancer. And this is where the robot from a company called DA Vinci. They call it the de Vinci Robot. The fore armed machine is essentially activated by a doctor who operates a camera and a surgeon who manipulates the robot's arm from a council using a joystick and foot pedals. But the lawsuit alleges that a fault allowed stray electrical energy emanating from the robot's arms used to cut body tissue and burn her internal organs without the surgical team's knowledge.
The lawsuit added that this is not the first time that the Di Vinci robots have caused undue harm, seeing the company behind the device, Intuitive Surgical, has received thousands and thousands of injury reports and hundreds of death reports with the alleged defective surgical robot. So last weekend here on the program who asked You the question? We asked you to participate in a health poll on my website at doctor Bob dot com spelling out the word doctor Bob dot com.
And boy, did we get a lot of activity associated with this particular health pole question. And I want to first and foremost thank you for participating in that poll and giving your opinion on this. I've not covered this topic in the past, but it really got my curiosity when my staff put this article about this poor woman and her family who's now reeling as a result of the loss of her life in response to this de Vinci robot, this surgical robot
burning a hole through her inte and causing her death. So we had that question on the site for nearly a week, and here are the results of the question. Would you allow a surgical robot to operate on you? Yes? Or no? Now, when I asked that question, you would. Obviously a doctor is going to consult with these patients and say, look, we're going to need to get your permission to employ a surgical robot because it's well, it's state of the art, it has a greater degree of precision
and allowing us to operate on you with greater certainty. Mister or missus Jones. All you will need to do to ensure we get the greatest latest innovative techniques here and science behind doing your surgery. Just sign here on this form allowing us to use this surgical robot. And of course the patient, in having faith, confidence and belief in their surgeons, they just nod away.
Most people do without question, saying now I trust my doctor my doctor wouldn't dare ever suggest something like this if he thought or she thought, they would put my life in peril. denying. But I just wonder, and I'm just cogitating on this, how many would really say no if they were in front of a doctor in a white coat with a stesocope around there neck, acting like a like a god playing god meaning the best for you, but understanding that there's always risks involved in surgery. Would that patient be so intimidated as to say yes more often
in that kind of a situation. Well, I don't know, but we certainly know you voted on this question and said no. Lot the best? There's there bad about that, all right, So let's begin with why is it that we observe heart health every single year, American Heart Health Month, every single February in the media, and all the polsters and everybody out there trying to raise the awareness. Why do
we have to do it? Well, I mean, I think the biggest issue is is that, yeah, you got six hundred thousand people here, heart disease still are number one killer, right, And honestly, it's presentable for the most part. Yeah, you got some people where they're you know, really genetically predisposed and maybe got a bad hand out to him. But for the most part, heart disease is pretty prevent it. And I think, you know, I think it's alarming that we really haven't put a big
dent into quality of life. We may have more drugs that end up you know, you know, keeping people managed, but it's the quality of life that goes with it that I think is so important. Yeah, no question about it. And I think, well, your first statement, some people would debate you on the number one cause of death in America. Some people believe it's medical miscare and that hard right behind it. I'm just saying, okay, I'm just saying, all right, ladies and gentlemen, our special
guest doctor Jim Leavell is with us. It is Hard Health month. Good idea to grab a pen or pencil and some paper to take some notes here. This is key information that everybody should have. Some of it you already know about. It need to be reminded, but some of it you need to also be aware of that could save your life and the life life of those you care most about. Doctor Jim Levell, what are some of the important cardiovascular tips to get your heart health and your body on the right track.
Well, if there's several things and you know, look, people aren't going to hear things news here, but what changes is that people need to start acting on right. I mean the big one is you definitely have to watch what you're eating. You know, people go, well I went gluten free. Well, yeah, you went gluten free, but now you're eating a box of gluten free cookies instead of you know, regular cookies. Right. You have to watch how much sugar that you take in in your diet.
You have to watch how many refined cards you take into your diet. And you know what, if you're a gene snitzer, you know eight fully three four or four four, which you can find out that you know you know, going to be getting a lap desk. You gotta watch saturated fat.
So you know, i'd always tell people, you know, think about eating a plant or we're diet and you know, it gets harder and harder because in general, there's not a lot of broccoli stores on the way home, not a lot of salad stops, you know, lots lots of bakeries and lots of fast food and lots of liquor stores. But there's not a lot of things that help us to do this. So you've got to work at it. So you know, eat more plant based foods. I'm not
saying you got to go vegan. I think you know quality, you know, wild caught, grass fed, proteins from animal sources, sources great, but we got to really got to do more than you know, get the pickle in the in the coolest fall on top of our cowboy, right, We've got to do more than that, and I think that's really important.
The next one is, of course it's going to work out. Now you have to start to utilize your your your muscle, you know, and that and that muscle is your heart, and you know you do that even you know, Look, the recommendation is for you know, the physical activity guidelines for Americans one hundred and fifty minutes of modern potensity exercise a week. Now, a lot of people think that's a lot what we're talking about now when
we're looking at really creating a cardio bass or prevention program. I have people, you know, trying to strive for bubble that can you do? Can you get to where you get to fifteen minutes six days a week. You'll work towards it. You may have to start with a ten minute walk. You may have to start with a fifteen minute walk, right. You might not have the stamina, you may have not done things forever. So that's important. And I think any movement is good movement, right, and so
that's good. And then the other one is, you know, watch your alcohol consumption. It's so often that you know, I always tell people, you know, what are you doing? You do when you get home? Why I have a glass of wine? Was you know you got a glass of wine or a gobblet? You know, I mean, what what's your four size? Right? Because you know, most of the time people are drinking goblets and they're having a couple of them, uh, and then that
disturbs their sleep. Of course, now everybody's wearing their wearable devices and they're figuring out they drink alcohol, they don't get into deep sleep as well, and they lose their orient sleep. So you know, good to understand that. You know the recommendations. Right now, men have two drinks, women to one. And you know, of course, you know a drink is you know, twelve ounces of beer, eight ounces of a you know, malt liquor, five ounces of wine, one and a half ounces of the
spirit. Now the other one, it's pretty easy, is you know, avoid smoking. I think everybody by now should enjoy it. You know, the fact that you know what vaping is bad too. It isn't just the fact that it's smoking. You get a lot of bad chemicals in you from that as well. And the fact too is is that women actually have greater risk than men when they're exposed to tobacco smoke. You really have to watch uh that, you know, you know they smoke. Don't think that vyping
is the way out. Uh. And then of course, you know, when you get rid of smoking out of your life, even if you are a heavy smoker, you have a significant risk reduction just as little as five years so that's pretty important. Yeah, and then you know, then we get into you know, I think the big one that you know usually didn't get mentioned is stress response. The number one reason for cheap my cardial in
parction is autonomic nervous system destruction. And of course we all learned about that through the pandemic and how people and all of a sudden we're having accelerated heart rates, all that kind of stuff, but just faily stressed. on the topic of heart health. It is Heart Health Month. He's providing daily habits that we can be reminded of and also institute to protect ourselves. And I found some very interesting things that doctor Leval was saying. I want to circle back and let him finish. We got caught by the bottom of
the hour news there stress. You brought stress up, Dr levelle I want to finish because I think people let that kind of roll off their backs like a duck and don't realize how insidious and ubiquous stress is and how it can affect somebody's heart. Can you just give us a little bit more information on that, Oh? Absolutely, you know. When your cortisol levels go up, that makes you make more adrenaline. And there's two things that happen.
One, cortisol by itself increases more inflammatory compounds from your review system called side of kind and those sido kinds start to change the way your receptors work in your body, So you start to become insulin resistant the more you are under chronic stress. So just by the fact you're under chronic stress, your insulin receptors don't work as good. And when that happens, your blood lucos goes
up. And when your insulin goes up, you make more on drunk wine, you make more on drunaline, and the blood vessels get smaller and sipper, and now your heart has the pump harder to get blood all the way through organs like your kidneys and so well. A lot of people don't realize it's forty percent of all high blood pressure, which is a part major part
of heart heelth right. It's due to what's called renal hypertension. I can't pump the blood through my kidneys because I got smaller types than what I should because of the chronic stress. And so that's the you know, the really big reason that that's an issue. And of course it also sets up problems in our microbiome. than we ever thought before. It doesn't have to happen like that. You just need to arm yourself with the antidote, which is knowledge, and put it into action to stop these things from happening. The reason that your father and grandfather and everybody else in the family had is they follow the same path of habits. They didn't break away from that and gain that information and knowledge
and put it into action. And furthermore, I loved it when doctor Lavell said, look, you know, it's really who's more responsible for your health than you? So the question becomes how responsible do you want to be? You want to take, you know, fifty percent responsibility for your health and let the other fifty percent twist in the wind and take your chances or one
hundred percent. Well, I think a lot of people, if they knew that they could actually impact their health, they'd want the whole thing, just like they want to take responsibility for their young child because the child doesn't know or can't take care of themselves, so they do it for them until a certain point in time. All right, let's get back to our conversation prior to the break, Doctor Jim leval I asked you to tell our audience what are some natural supplements that you recommend as a pharmacist, because, as everybody knows, pharmacists are one of the most trusted health care providers in the healthcare arena, So you have a little bit of credibility automatically here on the show.
