We're going to get into that, but we begin this hour with a discussion about root canals. Have ever had one? Well not, I hope you never need one. I've had a root canal and I dreaded it, and I wished I had not had a root canal because it
can be a life changing event. Now root canals may be a thing of the past. That's the good news here. The message is say goodbye to root canals and hello to resolvens. Have you heard of them? Resolve ins. A root canal is a dental treatment for infection of a tooth pulp the innermost layer of your teeth endodantis. Who are the specialists in the dental profession who do root canals and dodantis and dentists do them. General dentists do about
fifteen million root canals in the United States every year. Scientists are examining a new treatment for advanced tooth decay that may eliminate the need for specialist dentists like endodontis to perform these root canals by drilling down and scooping out the deepest and most sensitive part of your teeth, your nerve tissue, because they can't always get that infection out. There's been a long growing controversy behind root canals,
and that is that they are left behind. Infections are left behind, and that infection is slowly exuding in that tooth through the rest of your life because they can't get all the infection out even though the nerve is gone, so you don't sense the infection, you don't sense the pain anymore, but that infection in those canals in the tooth are still existing. They're there. They can't get it all out, and that can impact you. Root canals can
put stress on your immune system for an entire lifetime. There are doctors who believe it could pull the immune system down to the degree that you are more susceptible to the little sea, the common cold, to the big sea, the big sea that's cancer. Scientists are examining a new treatment, however, for advanced tooth decay that may eliminate the need for special dentists and dadantis to
drill down and scoop these out. Researchers are found that molecules called resolvins regenerate tissue when applied to the dental pulp, possibly saving frightened children and adults of all ages from the terrors of the dentist's drill. They could be used deep within the tooth, allowing patients to avoid the dreaded lengthy root canal treatments.
According to new research in the journal Dental Research, pulpititis inflammation of the dental pulp is a very common oral health disease that can become a serious health condition if not treated properly. Now the author of the study, doctor Thomas Van Dyk, co author of the study and vice president of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at the American Dental Association. That's what he said. A tooth compromises several layers, with the heart enamel on the outside, the dentin
beneath, and the deepest within the pulp. The pulp of the tooth is where all the blood, vessels and the nerves are that keep the teeth alive. It may become inflamed by cavities, cracks in the tooth, or other injuries with infections posing a risk of killing the pulp and causing immense pain. Usually, root canal treatments are used when there are infections in the pulp, painstakingly removing the infected tissue and filing the gaps with or filling the gaps I
should say with a biocompatible material. Root canal therapy our CT is effective, but it does have some problem since you are removing significant portions of the dentin and the tooth dries out, leading to a greater risk of fracturing your tooth and a root canal tooth down the road where you need to have a crown
or maybe the tooth replaced or extracted. The goal is to come up with a method of regenerating the pulp instead of filling the root canal with these inert materials, and the key here and then what they've found is these resolvins resolvant are naturally produced in the body and are included in a group of molecules called specialized pro resolving mediators or SPMs. These substances are effective controllers of excessive inflammation
caused by infection and disease. Now, the study found that these resolvins was applied to different levels of infected tooth that was damaged the pulp. It was very effective at regenerating the pulp when directly applied to it, so long as the pulp was still alive. However, this may not spell the end of dentist drills. A decayed tooth still has to have the decay removed, and
that's done with a drill. Now, the study was performed in the animal model rather than humans, so more research is needed on these resolvins that may may in the future replace the need for so many root canals. Because there are a lot of root canals that are performed in the United States. There are sometimes very painful, very scary, and they leave the tooth susceptible to injury and fracture. More so because it's shelled out, it's sort of a
hollow tooth. And not only that, these low grade simmering infections are still in the tooth. Even though you've had the nerved, the nerve extracted and in destroyed and the infection sort of cleared out, it never gets all the infection cleared out so you have to deal with that the rest of your life. Now, there is a little bit of humor in this. We have weird Al Yankovic one time said something about tooth decay. Go listen to musak
hearing keep the scream. Sitting in the waiting room reading crabby magazines, alders are impacted, gidding, gum disease. I'm gonna need some fisings. God, twelve cavities. Can you help me? Okay, so the FDA is very very tricky about or not tricky, but very concerned about any claims being made. As we all know, when you look at a vitamin sea bottle, it does not say
may prevent colds. Right, there's a reason for that. We cannot tell people what things do unless they've been through drug clinical trials. Now, this doesn't mean that a lot of natural supplements haven't had you know, huge amounts of research done, published, peer reviewed research, but unless it's gone under the umbrella of the drug companies with FDA approval, you cannot tell anybody what
that research does any longer. Okay, what that research revealed. But yes, there's been a big push and in my opinion, you know, in the interest of pharma, big pharma companies. Then I'll just put it out there everyone too, you know, not take off a lot of the ballistic eye drops. It's primarily alternative kind of natural eye drops that are on that list. So it's no accident that that is the list that is being targeted primarily at this point in time. Keep in mind that supplements in general are
under a big attack right now. We're finding, you know, just huge amounts of letters being sent to people who supply natural supplements on the internet. So it's getting to a place in our market, I'm afraid to say, where we're all going to have to be really good about communicating with one another
to get information out. We're going to have to support our loved ones this way, because it's getting more and more difficult to find information even though it's been peer reviewed published, unless you're savvy about getting onto some of these websites where the research is being published. It's very difficult to find answers to your questions. So you know there is there are good reasons for regulations, and
I'm all about that. But I think you know the pendulum swings and power controls and money controls, so we have to have all those things in our minds. We have to use a healthy amount of common sense when we're doing research for our bodies and for our health. But I think most of your listeners, because you've been so good at educating everyone doctor, are quite aware of how the politics of this game is played, and unfortunately, because of
the Internet, we've all been able to access information. I mean, I'm sure there's thousands of your listeners that have dealt with cancer alternatively or you know, diabetes using diet and wonderful things that are not okay by the FDA standard, and they're going to become less okay as this progresses along. So it's kind of a warning shot. I feel at this point the eye drops are not the only thing. It's just in my wheelhouse, That's what I'm you
know, we're getting, we're seeing this. We did not receive a letter. We have not been informed that we have to take the product off the market, but we do have to stop telling people what the product does in writing. So that's where the reality of the situation said, yeah, all right. Now. The reason that vitamin C models don't say on the label that they reduce the risk of getting an infectually common cold is because vitamin C does that, and the same thing with vitamin D at reducing your risk of

Well, I think corruption, you know, with power comes corruption. We know this.
I think the original intention of the FDA was very good, and I think in principle the ideology of it is good. But I think agree time and money, I think they're it has become obvious. You know, it's not an unbiased situation. Uh. You know there you have executives from the FDA working at pharma companies and switching positions back and forth, and money train changes hands. So it's no longer you know, the white as snow in their
altruistic ideology of protecting the public. It's lost that banner long ago. I'm afraid I will say with what they're saying, you know, they're they're talking about the portal of the eyes being a very vulnerable place for people. So again, you know, everybody knows this, Your audience knows this. You
wash your hands before you put eye drops in your eyes. We have we have documentation of people with cats being more prone to getting infection because the bacteria that are on cats, and then you know, touching their eyes and you know, so you know, just the common sense things. But that in the documentation that I read, that their complaint was that that is the risk that the FDA is concerned about, not that anything terrible has happened. Okay,
there's never been a complaint against canc never. It's got a perfect track record in almost twenty years of being in the marketplace. It's very benigne product, and it's not actually doing all the things that you wonderfully said and all the conditions that it affects.
