He marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 1960s, after graduating from college, he taught history in Stephens County and elsewhere, and he served for five years on the Toccoa City Commission and as mayor of Toccoa. We spoke with him about the movement, the importance of teaching history, and Lillian Smith.
