The nightmare begins when Max Cady (Robert De Niro) is released from prison and follows his former defense attorney, Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte) to a small town and begins to stalk him, his wife, Leigh (Jessica Lange) and teenage daughter, Danielle (Juliette Lewis).
