And now your host form Wrongo Casino dodgerste Tam kayse Hi, everybody, and welcome into Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Hope you're enjoying your Friday afternoon. Your Los Angeles Dodgers, well they're not enjoying this road for fifty five and thirty nine on this season, still first place and all alone a top of the nl Wes, but after getting swept in Philadelphia, the Dodgers are now in Detroit for the start of a three game series against the Tigers. Hopefully
get some positive feelings going into the All Star Break. James Paxson on the mount in the series opener, first pitch from co America Park is coming up at three forty. Coming up over the next hour here on Wrongo Casino Dodgers on Deck, we wily hear from the Dodger manager Dave Roberts, get his thoughts on his team after what happened in Philadelphia and going into the final weekend
before the All Star Break. We'll preview this pitching matchup with a big maple on the mound for the Dodgers. David Vatsag goes one on one with Dodger Hero and Tiger's broadcaster Kurt Gibson, that's coming up in forty five minutes. Shortly, we'll hear from Kirsten Watson. In just a few minutes, we'll send it out to Rick Monday and Tim Never in the gapin Motors Broadcast booth. Well, for the Dodgers, Philadelphia was anything but the city of brotherly
love. Yesterday in Philly, Anthony Bonda got the start as the opener, and it was more of the same from the Dodger pitching. In the first Trey Turner, a solo home run off Bonda of the Phillies took a one to nothing lead. Then in a second Land and Knack on the mount is the bulk innings guy. He too got hit around Brandon Marsha's solo home run the Phillies rub two to nothing. The Dodgers managed to finally finally get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning thanks to Gavin Lucks one oh and Lux hits
the ball a long way down the left field side. Jason gets to the corner and that ball is off the pole and gone a home run. That ball sliced and it hit the three twenty nine marker the screen just to the right of the foul pole, down toward the bottom of it, and Gavin Lux has a home run, his third of the year. It's a two to one ball game. Gavin locks with the big bopper there, his third
of the season. Dodgers cut the deficit in half, down two to one, and the sixth, though landing neck still in when he got into trouble again, Brandon Marsh ripped a triple down the line, scoring Nick Castanos that put the Phillies ahead three to nothing. The very next batter, Yawn Rojas and RBI single that brought in Marsh and the Phillies extended to lead to four to one, and that was it for Knack, but not for the Phillies.
And the eighth Ryan Yarborough on and relief facing Kyle Schwarber. The top active managers in winning percentage are squaring off here in Philadelphia. This ball's hammered. Schwarber's got another home run, upper deck shot in right field. Five to one, Philadelphia. There was a curve ball. He went out and got it and pulled it into the upper deck. The Schwarber home run number nineteen. Shorber the home run. Phillies up five to the one. They
go on a win by that same final score. Aaron Nola gets to win his eleventh of this season. Anthony Bonda gets tagged with the loss. Dodgers lose all three games in Philadelphia. They've now been swept for the Phillies by the first time since twenty eleven. With the loss, they fall to fifty five and thirty nine. They've dropped four in a row eight of their last twelve. James Paxon though on the mound as the Dodgers are now in Detroit
for the start of a three game series against the Tigers. First pitch from co America Park is at three forty and with more, let's head out to the Gallpin Motors broadcast booth and say good afternoon to Rick Monday and Tim never guess Tim, thank you very much. Change a venue for the Dodgers here tonight, beginning a weekend interleague series with the Detroit Tigers, or at k America Parking downtown Detroit. Gorgeous evening for baseball too, eighty one degrees,
lose skies and plenty of sunshine. Right now as we get ready to get this one underway, the Dodgers will send James Paxton to the mile, the left hander seven and two in a four to four ERA trek Scoobel, who has been one of the best pitchers in the American League ten and three in a two to three SEVENTYRA. He is one of the front runners currently for the Cy Young Award and possibly the American League starting pitcher in the All Star
Game. So a tough customer tonight that the Dodgers will face on the hill for the Tigers. Tigers are forty five and forty nine. They've won six of seven this week. The Dodgers have lost four straight and are currently fifty five and thirty nine, seven games up on the Padres in the National League Western Division. Moh change of scenery might be just what the Dodgers need after getting swept in Philadelphia. Well, they need to change the scenery that they
have. They also need to change in results. The fact that they've lost eight of twelve thirteen at last twenty seven and on this road trip. Propped all three in Philadelphia, and it was not dropping three with a whole lot of contention on the Dodgers side. Runners in scoring position in those three games, Dodgers hit one thirty eight. What about the Phillies three sixte out the last six games. The Dodgers have had difficulty putting runs up on the board
when opportunities present. In those six games, hitting had just won seventy seven in that same spot runners in scoring position. They'd like to see some guys hit the ball out of the yard and show hey, ho Tani has a good history of doing that in this ballpark. He has eleven home runs an eighty one career at bats against the Tigers. That's a home run every seven point four at bats and almost a year ago to the day, July twenty seventh, last year, in a doubleheader, he pitched a one hit shutout
in Game one. In a Game two, he hit two monster home runs in an Angel sweep over the Tigers last year, and the Tigers certainly remember, show hey Otani the Dodgers hoping that he can come through and be productive with his at bats. Well, I think in on the board early. Here's a number ran across earlier. Today the Dodgers win, they score first in the ballgame. They won forty one of forty seven. Is that good? Well, it's the best winning percentage in Major League Baseball eighty seven percent.
End of the time they score first, they walk home with a victory. They did not score first in any of the games in Philadelphia. They had difficulty scoring in that opportunity and again with runners in scoring positions. So Dave Roberts going with the left handed lineup that being left handed is on the mound, so he goes to more right handed batters, only two lefties that being Otani and Freeman. In that lineup, Hernanis will be at third base,
Miguel Vargas and left Chris Taylor starts at second base. In Pajes again is in the center field position. Rodgers don't see the Tigers very much now. They'll see them every other year at home and then once on the road. But one name to really watch for offensively and defensively for the Tigers is Riley Green Green, the center fielder. He has made the American League All Star Team, hitting three eighty two in his last nine games with seven runs
batted in, so he is a name to watch certainly. Also Andy Ebanyas, who'll be leading off and playing second base, having a very good year for the Tigers. James Packs In pitching for the Dodgers, Trek Scooble for the Tigers Dodgers Tigers Interleague Baseball coming up from Detroit. Tim all right, we're off and running as we cut you down here to first pitch. Dodger fans, get your game. Dave Meal on it, Shakey's Pizza Parlor.

David Vets say, we'll check in throughout the show. He'll go one on one with Kurt Gibson break down this pitching matchup up next. So your Otani Reewine and we'll visit with Kirsten Watson from Sports and at LA. Lead you up to first pitch from Detroit Tigers Dodgers. Thanks for being with
us. I'm Tim Kass, Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Networks is Lorono Casino, Dodgers on Dodgers on Deck. Y'all on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball, Dodgers and Tigers. James Paxton terror Scooble. The pitching matchup first pitching co America Park in Detroit, set for three forty. This is the Otani
rewhy. Well, it was a rough day for the Dodgers. Top of the line up yesterday Freddie Freeman was oh for three, Will Smith oh for four with three punch outs, shoe Hey Otani oh for four yesterday with two strikeouts, now hitting three fourteen on the season as Dodgers loss of the Phillies five to won. The good news is showey Otani has played on Mcole America Park, a place he has double digits and home runs in his appearances.
So Tony rewind brought to you by eto Inns, Japan's number one green tea and the tea that showey Otani loves and drinks available your local diso stores, Amazon and eto in dot com. That's it t O e N dot Com. This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson. Hey Karson now joins us from Detroit of all places. Yeah, Dodgers in the Motors City for a three game weekend set again the Tigers and Keirrison. This Dodgers team. They need
to get back on track now, Yeah, they do. And even last night Freddy Freeman, he was talking in the clubhouse to the media saying that, look, the Philly series, they just did not play their best baseball. So it's time to get things going. And you know what, more importantly, they want to end the first half of the season on a very high note. You know, a good place to do that is here in Detroit against the Tigers. That's the last chance for them to do it,
to end on a high note, to be honest. But also the Tigers have been playing pretty well as of late. In their last seven games, they're six and one, and they've got their ace on the mound today in Schooble. So the hope is Dave was saying today, The hope is to take advantage of his mistakes, find different ways to get to him. He is leading the Alci Young conversations for a reason. So you know, I've
heard the Dodgers before yell in the dugout let's be some ra busters. And maybe they should do just that today to get things going and find a way not only to take the series, but hopefully sweep the series so that they can at least finish this road tra at five hundred and field a really good mood heading to whether it's the All Star Game, heading home to rest and
recover wherever their All Star adventures take them. Guy and I guess the best guy they can have on the mound right now in a city that they don't go to very often is James Paxton, who is pitching this ballpark a lot. Yeah, he has. He Actually quite a few of us were on the same bus together and he was the only one who knew where we were going when we got off the bus, Like everyone was like, huh,
so which way did we go? So it was nice. He's like, yeah, I've been here quite a few times have I'm playing in the American League. So he definitely it's best case scenario. But also he's a veteran in the rotation right now. We've talked the last couple of days with there's a lot of injuries at the moment, and so he is a very steady presence. He's been having a numbers wise, pretty good year. I think
results were seeing kind of up and down. But the hope is for him not only just to be a workhorse today, try to go deep into the game, but have be a steady veteran presence and also just end the first half of the season on a very high note. So Dave is looking to see, you know, some good stuff from him today and hopefully he can do just that. Kirsten. Let's hope the Dodgers can get back on track and we can talk to you post game. We appreciate it still to come
here on Wronggo Casino. Dodgers on deck will dive deeper into this pitching matchup. David Vassa goes one on one with Kurt Gibson, Dodger hero, Tigers broadcaster and a legend the game of baseball. But up next we'll get you an injury report. We got an update on Joe Kelly and crew, and we'll hear from the manager, Dave Roberts as well. It's the Dodgers and Tigers from Detroit. First pitch at three forty. I'm Tim Katsus Los Angeles

Well, the Dodgers have a plethora of players on the injured list, some guys hopefully coming back after the All Star break, and the injury report presented by UCLA Healthy official medical partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tyler Glass now one of those guys on the il at the back stiffness to Jason Heyward on the ile at the bone bruise and his knee. Mookie Bets on the iel at the fractured hand.
He's not coming back for a few more weeks at least. The Yoshanibayamamoto on the iel with the strained rotator cuff. Good news is he's starting to throw now on the flat ground. Walker Bueller on the iel at the right hip sore on this he is in Florida trying to get right. Michael Grove on the iel at the store lat Ryan Brasier on the iel at the right cap strain. Clayton Kershaw is going to go out on a minor league rehab assignment. This weekend. More on that coming up, but first let's check
in with the Dodgers, get Bird, anything else? Dave? Do you think questions for Dave? Dave? Can you just describe Dave? Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with day Robberts? Dave, just when you look at this matchup, you guys are going against AlSi leader in school ball. What are you hoping? Just what are you hoping to do to find ways to get to him today? It's gonna be tough. You know, I haven't seen him pitch, you know, in person, seeing some
obviously some highlights and video. It's it's a really it's just got command of all of his pitches. It's all plus stuff. You know, I think, like anything, we've got to be better at getting on the fastball. He's gonna come after us so and hope, hope he makes mistakes and create some havoc. But it's going to be tough. And you know the other part is that we just need James to out there and pitch weall is pitch weall and keeps in the ball game. How important I guess does this start
for James? Just considering, you know, being that stopper but also really being that veteran of this group, considering where the rotation's at. It's it's a big start, and you you sort of want to finish off the first half, you know, on a high note. And for James in particular, it's been up and down a lot. There's been some really good ones and there's been some not so good ones, and I think that, you know, to have something to build off of in the second half is important.
And yeah, and just kind of get us off this night as well. I mean, after all the different kinds of diversity you guys have had the last few weeks, Like how much could you use like a good weekend here going into the break? That would be a great remedy. You know. The starting pitching. We just haven't got off to a good start the last you know, a couple of weeks, and it's shown itself. But to get a good one out of James, to keep us in this ballgame
against a guy that's really it's gonna be hard to get runs. I mean that's just kind of the way it is, you know, when you get really really talented pitching. But I feel good that we're about to break out offensively and you know what better time than the present. I do you think James been sewing consistent this year? I think it's a strike throwing. I think the strike throwing the high walk percentage is the biggest part of it.
And when you're getting into bad counts and then you're trying to be fine, I think that's probably the biggest factor for me. All Right, there's Dave Robbers down the dugout. Dodgers need James Paxson to be big today brought to you by Service Titan. Dave Roberts is a Titan in his own right, and he's got a plan before his team hits the field. All right, David James Paxton. The Dodgers really need him to give them
something today. And well, next thing, you know, you look at the rotation from the starting of the season and Dave he's the last guy standing. Yeah. I mean, who would have thought that in spring training, Tim, that James Paxton would make every single start for the Dodgers. Basically, he's missed maybe one start where the Dodgers managed his first half, but
the thirty five year old left hander obviously has not been spectacular. But I feel like the best way to describe him is solid, and he's been there and here he is today in Detroit for the Dodgers, his final start before the All Star break. And I had a chance to catch up with James on the pregame show a couple of days ago, and here's what he said about his career evolving with the Dodgers. Yeah, you know, I really
have. I've gotten a lot of help with some pitches. You know, I came in and I needed help my change up, and I really got to help a lot of help there. And you know, I'm kind of evolving in the way that I pitch. I don't have quite the same stuff that used to have, and they're they're helping me make that, make that change and learning how to pitch with different stuff, and it's been it's been
great. Is that the first step to understand that you are evolving, that James Paxton at this stage of your career is not the James Paxton from even five years ago. Yeah, you know, I think you see it happen to all pitchers, most pitchers. You know, you get a little older, and you lose some velocity, maybe lose certain sharpness on certain certain pitches, and you have to learn how to pitch a little bit differently. And you know that can be tough, and it has been, you know,
frustrating and hard. But I've had a lot of help here to help me learn how to make that work best, and it's been good experience. I've heard Connor McGinnis, one of the Dodger pitching coaches, talked to James Paxton about developing a change up, and every time he throws a bullpen session in between starts tim it seems like that is the pitch they're working on to develop.
And if you pay attention to his starts with the Dodgers, more and more, you're starting to see that pitch be more of his pitch mix. And I don't know how much this means, but the last time James Paxton faced the Tigers all the way back in twenty eighteen, he tossed a complete game against them. Hopefully he can do that again this afternoon, David. On Sunday, the MLB Draft will start with the first round. What do
you think what are the Dodgers' plans in this year's draft? Well, number one, the Dodgers have the twenty third overall pick in this year's amateur draft, and I feel like this always sneaks up on us because this is something new that Major League Baseball has decided to bring more attention to the draft, and they have it during the All Star break, so I've looked at a couple of different sides here, and for the first time in a long time,
the Dodgers are projected to not take another pitcher. They are looking at middle infielders. MLB Pipelines has them looking at a high school shortstop second basement by the name of Theo Gillen. Fangrabs also has them looking at a middle infielder outfielder Kelln Lindsay out of a high school in Florida. So it looks like the Dodgers are projecting to draft a high school position player up the middle that can bring some different dynamics to their farm system. David's driven by four.
If there's one thing we like its choices, find yours at the four f one to fifty gas hybrid or all electric tough this March. Yeah, it can only be called f one fifty. How much has Shoeotani cooled off David well since the fourth of July, Tim, it's been considerable. Yesterday at very frustrating at bat for him trying to do too much where he definitely expanded his strike zone over in that at bat with the bases loaded in the
second inning. And for Otani now since the beginning of the last homestand he is hitting in the two fifties, but the strikeouts are what's alarming. The strikeouts are three to one four to one ratio over the course of his last eight games. And we saw when he cooled off during that twenty to twenty five game stretch before he got hot again on Father's Day. That's what he was doing. He was expanding the strike zone and striking out way more than
he was walking. So he's got to get back to being able to swing at pitches in the strike zone and not be so concerned that he's going to get beat by the fact us ball our damn great stuff. We'll check back you with you just a little bit. Coming up here on Wrongo Casino. Dodgers on Deck DV is gonna go one on one with Kirk Gibson, Dodger great and of course Tiger broadcaster. Coast. Fifty five thousand, one hundred and five were in attendance at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, nationally taken on the American League as Don Drysdale got the start for the National League. Wally Moon was in starting in the left field, but in the seventh inning it was a Dodger that got him a home run. T Come on on, God, give that Bago Gilliam that I got there. Jim Gilliam with the home run in the seventh thinning, a solo shot to make it a four to three American League lead. They
were within one. Unfortunately, the American League would come back with a run at the top of the eighth inning and they go on and beat the National League at the coliseum here in LA five to three. Dodgers broadcaster and World Series champion Dodger Rick Monday. Well, Rick, three more games to go before the All Star break, but the Dodgers would like to finish it strong after what we saw in Philadelphia. Hey, David, I'll tell you what. You're back in the friendly confines of Los Angeles. You did not make this road trip. We miss you. By the way. You need to send some very good vibes. In particular when there's runners on base. If they can get runners on base, I mean they've gone
to snap the four game losing strength. They've lost to eight of the last twelve, and they've not done it in very good fashion. In particular, when they finally get runners in scoring positions, you start to look at the last six games in particular the team's hitting below one point eighty with runners in scoring position. I would expect that to be able to turn it around. But you know one thing that we lose sight of. Yeah, you look
at the record. Yes they're fifty five and thirty nine. Yes they have a seven game lead over San Diego. It's actually very much of an accomplishment. But when you start to look at the injury list that this club has at the present time, not just starting players in the lineup, but if you look at a decimated starting rotation, I mean, the Dodgers have three rookies in their rotation right now. Plus then you're looking at a day off
or an opener, if you will. So this is not the ideal situation, but the Dodgors have to slug their way through this and hopefully turn it around. You know what I found remarkable, even in somewhat coming up short Rick, was that Freddie Freeman did not come up with a hit in that three game series against the Phillies the first time ever in his Dodger career. Doesn't that just speak to how great Freddy Freeman is. Yeah, and the
numbers when we saw those over the last number of days. Those numbers are unbelievable. I mean, how do you go through a series for as long as he has and come up empty without a base hit in that series. I mean you start to look at it and say, no, that's not possible that you could be that's steady. So for so many games, you know, day in and day out, and get base hits at least in
series. You know what I loved about it too, Rick, After the game, Freddie Freeman was one of the few Dodgers that stood in front of his locker and fielded questions after the way things went for him and for the team in Philly. Yeah, well, you and I both know Freddy and he has the reputation to do that. He's not there just when the lights are brightest and he's had the best game. He's also available to answer questions.
I don't think he's in a team atologizer mode, but he's standing in front of his locker even when he individually may have, by his standards, a crummy game or the club's not playing particularly. I think that says a lot about the character of Freddie Freeman on how he handles professionally, what his job is. Rick the Dodgers are at Comerica Park, a new ballpark relatively speaking, in Detroit. Did you were you celebrating when Old Tiger Stadium was
blown up? How did Rick Monday enjoy Old Tiger Stadium? Well, I don't think it took a full stick of dynamite to blow it up. I think maybe a strong win and remove a few bolts. It served its purpose. But this is obviously just a tremendous venue in compared to terms to what Tiger Stadium was. Kind of an odd stadium to begin with because in right field the upper deck actually juted out. The upper deck was closer to home plate than the lower deck in right field. That's a very interesting, very
unusual. It was also four it was either four forty or four forty four to straightaway center field, and at one time actually had a bolt that someone had removed from the stands somewhere up in center field and thrown down and it actually hit me. Fortunately it hit me on the outside the sole of the shoe. But there were a few thuds that also took place where they misfired,
didn't hit me. And an incident where we call time of the umpires had ushers put up in the upper deck in center field to make sure it didn't happen again. Now, only beach balls hit you, Rick, Well, the beach balls those don't hurt. The bolts that were removed from the stands, they do hurt. And in your honor, a drum corps is just serenading the Dodgers dugout. There's two, four, six, eight,
ten, twelve, fourteen of them. They're pounding the RUMs right now in front of the Dodgers first base Doug Up, I guess that's my cue. Rick. You found a way to use them to your advantage today. Well, if that's the cue, I want to bring him with me to LA. Thanks. Rick. We'll check back in with you and Tim Nevertt a little bit later. I have a good one, David. Obviously it's been well chronicled about the home run against eckers Lee, but I believe everybody forgets you don't get there, You don't get that opportunity.
If Mike Zosha doesn't hit the home run off of Doc Gooden, you don't hit the home run in the twelfth inning to even up that series, because you guys were staring at three games to one deficit in New York. Yeah, you're talking about the championship series. We played the Mets and they were heavily favored. I think they beat his twelve out of thirteen times in the year, some crazy number like that. But you know, we actually had Doc Doc Goodin's pitches out of the wind up, and so you know
he hit one out. I mean, how likely is that? Not very but he did it, and I hit one out in the twelfth I think orl Herscheizer came out of the boltpen that night after throwing the previous night seven innings. Everybody was selfless. They just everybody in that team was so selfless. They just did what it take to make sure we all were on track to win a world championship, and then we followed it through. You certainly did. Don't tell my wife eighty eight was the best summer of my life.
Well that's you deal with that. You know, my wife was not even at the game. I told her to go home. I don't know if you've heard that, but because I didn't think there was any way I was going to play. You know, I had pretty severe injuries, some injections, but you just never say never. And you know, the impossible did happen? Gibby? Did you really run across your living room before that
game? When I got up in the morning, I started walking as I slept with my knee, elevated some pillows around it just to kind of keep a little light pressure, trying to get the information out of it. And I got up to say, yeah, not too bad. Then I ran across the living room. I got to about a half half speed jog, and he grabbed me pretty good, and I just said, oh boy, we got a problem here. And you know, I got some injections before the game and stayed in the training room and iceed my leg, and the
situation called for me to give it a try. I did, and I just can't explain it. Gibby. Last time I saw you, it was a few years back in Detroit. You were clean shaven, no mustache. But I'm looking at you right now. You look like Kurt Gibson from nineteen eighty eight with some of the five o'clock shadow beard, and you got the beautiful stash coming down exactly the way it was that year. I mean,
this is your back. That look is back. Well, I don't feel like I did back when I had this stash, but I got no complaints. You know, life's good, my family's growing, it's great, my kids are healthy. We've got good friends, and we contribute and help to give people opportunities as they go through and hopefully we can help them in whatever their causes may be.
