And now your host for Morongo Casino Dodgers on Tech, Tam kays Hi, everybody, and welcome in to Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. I hope you're enjoying this Wednesday afternoon. You're Los Angeles Dodgers fifty five up, thirty seven down, first place at top the NL West. After a night though to forgetting Philadelphia, the Dodgers are back at it today at Citizens Being Park. Kevin Stone on the mound, game two of this three game set against the
Fight and Phills. First pitch coming up at four to oh five. Between now and then, we got a lot to get to here. On Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck, we'll hear from the manager, Dave Roberts. We'll go high and tight with David Veasse. DV will check in of course throughout the show. Shortly we'll hear from Kirsten Watson, and in just a few minutes we'll check out with Rick Monday and Tim Never at the gallupin Motors Broadcast booth. Well, last night, Bobby Ice was cooled off by the Phillies
as the Dodgers got boat race. Bobby Miller got the start and the right hander started off okay. He put up a zero in the first, got the first two batters out in the second inning before trouble, a walk, stolen base, an RBI single two batters later, Kyle Schwarber a two run single in the Phillies with three runs in the second inning, had the lead, and they did it with two outs in the fourth. The wheels really fell off though for Bobby Miller. First two batters reached base, then Rojas
and RBI single. Phillies up four to nothing, and that wasn't even close to being done. After a walk to Schwarber, Bobby Miller looked the basis and up came Trade Turner and Miller in a whole heap of trouble here in the fourth. And this one hit high in the air, deep to left, toward the corner. Vargas back to the wall. That's a grand slam. Tray Turner has hit a grand slam and doubled the score. It is eight to nothing. First pitch he sees from Bobby Miller, he hits it
out grand slam for the former Dodger Trade Turner. Phillies with five runs in the fourth take an eight to nothing lead, and they still weren't done. Later in the inning, Bryson Stock a solo home run to right. Phillies a ninth spot they lead to Dodgers nine to nothing. It was a rough outing for Bobby Miller. Four innings, nine runs, ten hits. He left after eighty seven pitches. The Dodgers offense didn't do much. The long run they got came into fifth thanks to Cavin Bigio. Here it comes the
next offer. It swung on well, hit to right, going back as Castillanos, he's to the wall. It's gone. Bizio with a home run and the Dodgers get on the board. It's nine to one. Third home run of the season and first as a Dodger for Calvin Biggio. Solo home run for Bizio, his third of this season. Dodgers finally on the board, but they were down ten to one, and they had more chances but couldn't get that big hit. They stranded twelve base runners. They go zero
for eleven of the runners in scoring positions. The Phillies wo attack on another run. They go up ten to one and win by that same final score. It was all said and done. The Dodgers had to go to keyk Hernandez, who pitched an inning in a third in relief and actually retired every batter that face. Phillies get the win. The good news is the Dodgers lose yesterday big, but today, well it's a new day. It's a new game. Yesterday it was just one of one to sixty two Dodgers.
Phillies back at it from Citizens Bank, part Gavin Stone on the mound, first pitch at four five and with more than head out to the Gallpin Motors broadcast booth, as we say hello to Rick Monday and Tim Never guys, thank you Tim. Beautiful night, A little on the warm side, a little on the human side here in Philadelphia, as the Dodgers trying to even up this series at a game of piece last night, not their night, ten to one, on the wrong side of that score, Trey Turner hitting
a grand slam for Philadelphia. But it's a new day, it's a new night, and the Dodgers will put their fifty five and thirty seven record on the line against the Phillies fifty nine and thirty two record, both teams leading their respective divisions by seven and a half games. Christopher Sanchez, the lefty for Philadelphia pitches. He is six and four and a two nine four ERA,
has been very good at home. He will take on Gavin Stone, who is looking to pick up his tenth win of the season before the All Star break. Stone is nine and two ERA just a little bit over three, and he's been pitching well on the road. Well, the news of the day has to do with pitching mall and it has to do with Bobby
Miller. Miller last night suffered the loss. He only went four innings, allowed nine earned runs on ten hits, and today he was optioned back to Triple A. Option back to Triple A, and you start to look at a Miller since he returned from the injured list an ERA of nine point eighty seven. He's just been inconsistent in those four innings. You're talking about eighty
seven pitches, fifty four in the strength zone. But for Bobby Miller, just inconsistency with the delivery, inconsistency with the strike zone itself, and maybe even two predictable is a lack of not throwing some strikes. So he's going to go down and there's some work to get done because the Dodgers need Bobby Miller to straighten things out and get back here as quickly as possible. But he's got a lot of I think analyzing to do. They'll look at videotape
and everything else in sidelines sessions. But for Miller, maybe coming as a shock, maybe not so much as a shot for the twenty five year old rookie Fanasko, a right hander, is in the Dodger bullpen. That was the roster move on the other side. So the Dodgers as they get a little closer to the All Star break, trying to add another arm to the pen well, and they need to do it with a pin also, But you start to look at the really the pressure has been on the bullpen because
the sixteenth of June, go back to that date. Since that date, only the New York Yankees starting pitching has a higher ERRA than what the Dodgers starting pitching has been able to post. New York Yankees since the sixteenth or June six point nine to four, that's their starting pitching er. For the Dodgers it's over five point six. That's got to turn around. And for the bullpen has been very good for this Dodger bulk club, but they've not
had a whole lot of zeros that they're following. Too many zeros for the Dodgers recently, as far as at bats with runners in scoring position, that's been an issue. It's been a huge issue. I mean last night they had plenty of opportunities, but they were zero for eleven. Philadelphia took advantage four for eight in that area. But if you look at the last four games, it gives you kind of a snapshot. The Dodgers are just three for thirty three. I'll do the math. That's an ninety one batting game,
so below one hundred. In the same time in those four games, the opposing teams hitting it three ninety three with opportunities to knock in runs o daylight. The president to try to turn that around, well, I think every game that you start, if you're in a slump, you say, look, this is the day that we start the longest hitting streak that you have. And for teams, exactly the same approach. Now, the Dodgers just wanted back closer to getting hot, and why not in hot Philadelphia.
You can't get hot if you don't go to home plate as a hit. That's right, Dodgers at fifty five and thirty seven, Phillies fifty nine and thirty two. Gavin Stone has the ball for the Dodgers. Christopher Sanchez, the lefty, will pitch for Philadelphia. Tim all right, see cull you down to first pitch. Dodger fans, get your game day meal on a Shaky's Pizza parlor. Order your Shaky's Pizza, Chicken and Mojo's right now Shakey's dot Com coming up here on Dodgers on Deck. We will hear from the
manager, Dave Roberts. We'll check in with David Vaz saying of course I'm next, though you're Otani Reewine. And we'll hear from Bobby Miller, who had a rough day yesterday got optioned to Triple A Oklahoma City just a couple of hours ago. We'll hear from Bobby Miller next. So lead you up to Dodgers and Phillies first pitch A four oh five. Thanks for being with us. I'm Tim Katson's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network. It's Morongo Casino,
Dodgers on Dodgers on Deck. Y'all on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball, Dodgers and Phillis. Gavin Stone and Christopher Sanchez. The pitching matchup. First pitch from Citizens Bank Park coming up at four oh five. This is the Otani Rewind. Oh one pitch show Hey, loops went into the left field and that ball is gonna drop in for a hit. Trey Turner looked at Brandon Marsh, the left fielder. Marsh looked shortstop Turner, and they
said, I don't got it either, one of them. So Otani with a base shit and some said he's Hot's just different because the way the humidity hits you. There goes Otani pitches low for a ball and no throw down and show, hey, we'll have his twenty first stolen bass shoey Otani goes one for two last night, on base twice with the walking now hitting three point fifteen and as you heard, his twenty first stolen base of the year.
The Otani Rewind brought to you by eto z oy all Jo, Japan's number one green tea and the tea that show Hey Otani loves and drinks available at your local Diso stores, Amazon, at etoin dot com. That's it t O e n dot com. Well, roughnight for Bobby Miller last night. A young right hander who's pitched well in a little bit of a rut right now. Four ratings, nine runs, all of them are in ten hits. Give him a couple of home runs, including the grand Slam to
Trey Turner. You got option to triple a Oklahoma City to hopefully kind of figure out what's going wrong and bring it back up. After the All Star break, and last night he talked with the media just everything you just said, mainly just execution, fighting to get back intoccounts. Yeah, I mean, you face a team like that and you just make like on executed pitches. They put good swings on it every time. There's some unlucky stuff in
there as well. I didn't think that that grand sign was hit too hard, but you know, at the same time, it wasn't a great pitch, so they're going to capitalize on that. So yeah, I got some
work to do it. I guess what's your biggest takeaway then, I guess, or what's something that you really want to focus on kind of heading into your next outing, execution and getting ahead of batters, just being in attack mode, Like that's when I'm at my best in attack mode and get ahead of guys and put them away fast instead of getting O two and working into three two a lot, So you know that's the really the biggest takeaway is
just yeah, just getting ahead and putting guys away fast is what I'm best at. So what's this process been like? Just trying to get back into it after time in the I L and trying to figure out the successful again. Apparently it's been tough, it really has. But I'm using his motivation in my next outing for whenever that is. And yeah, I just use all this this failure is motivation going in going into my next outing. Still feel physically makes the flas start you feeling pretty get it still? Yeah,
yeah, I feel fun? What you got? What's been missing? Though? Four starts in that since you came back, I haven't really looked like yourself in any of them. I feel like I explained that. Yeah, I've been getting to know two counts not putting away guys fast. You know. Obviously last is a little down too, but uh yeah, just stuff just doesn't have as much buy to it right now, just not put the
guys, putting guys away fast. When I get deep into account and I'm just a lot of three ball counts a lot of walks, just everything I'll put together, but may get back to where I need to be. I know that for sure stuff isn't have the same fight as velocity is down. Why is that? I couldn't tell you. I'm trying everything I can. You know, the shoulders strong right now. Done testing on that. My shoulders really strong right now. So it's probably just mechanics. I'm just a
little bit of everything. So yeah, I'm just still trying to figure that out. All right, there's Bobby Miller. Hopefully you can figure out the mechanics and get back to this Dodgers team after the All Star break. Quickly brought to you by Cars for Kids, the easiest way to get your ready to roll car. we continue here on Dodgers on Deck. We'll get you an injury report, and we'll hear from the manager himself, Dave Roberts in his pregame thoughts as we lead jump to Dodgers and Phillies. First pitch of four old five. I'm Katess, Los Angeles Dog Audio Network. This is Marongo Cassino Dodgers Hunt game on your home for LA Dodgers Baseball, Maronggo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues, Marogo Casino resort ends by grand slam for good times. Leading up
to Dodgers in Phillies. We'll hear from James Outman, been up in about thirty minutes. First pitch from Philadelphia as that four O five. It's the LA Dodgers injury report pretended by UCLA Healthy official medical partner of your Los Angeles Dodgers. Tyler Glasnow on the IL at the back stiffness, Jason Heyward on
the iel at the bone bruise and his knee. Mookie Bets on the iel to fractured hand, Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the IEL at the strained rotator, craft Walker Bueller on the IEL at the right hip soreness, Michael Grove on the iel at the store lat Ryan Brasier on the IL, Clayton Kershaw working his way back, and it looks like Joe Kelly's gonna throw in Oklahoma City in another minor league rehab assignment. All right, let's head back out to Philadelphia.
Get the pregame thoughts to the anything else, Dave. Do you think questions for Dave? Dave? Can you just describe Dave? Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with Dave? Robberts just kind of figuring out number one, we got to get him right. So I think that's the impetus and what's the best way to get him right mentally, emotionally and mechanically. Uh. Butting up to the All Star break, it's it made made
a lot more sense. And you know, you have a path to either continue to go as we have been and hope that it turns, or you know, remove them from the situation, option them and give them a reset to get out of this hot box of performance. And so we just felt that this was the best thing for Bobby and for us, and you know, he's a big part of what we're trying to do this year, and so we just felt that's the best thing to do. What is the playlet? Is it going to be a short stand? Is it going to go
to Arizona or Okay, see that what's sort of the plans. So he's gonna work with Rob Hill, one of our pitching guys in the minors. So I think that he's going to be there and spend a lot of time with him. There's no one in Arizona right now, and you know he's going to spend the All Star break in Los Angeles, which he had already planned to do, so that doesn't change. And then once we start the second half, he'll he'll break with OKC and we'll figure out when he lines
up to make a start. I don't know that yet with this decision that is, I mean, because we're seeing his stuff that just wasn't translated into what it was last year, Like what kind of went into something that's not distressed that it's just kind of making Sentimentking Sure he goes down there to what I think, Yeah, I think it was the stuff, the command and the consistency of the stuff and the command. You know, even last night,
there was some good curveballs in there, but not consistent enough. There was a couple of good change ups, but not consistent enough. There were a couple of good there's some good fastballs in there, but not consistent enough to put hitters away. And also just you can see it taking a toll on them, you know, when I take him out of a game, and you can just see the weight that he is and the stress that he's
putting on himself. And so I do think that getting him out of this environment is going to be beneficial and he's going to comeback, reset, recharge and throwing the baseball the way we know he can't. All right, there's Dave Roberts talking about Bobby Miller. Dave Roberts down the dugout, brought to you by Service Titan. Dodgers fans and Hanser listening and experience to Dodger games by downloading the iHeartRadio app and listening in HD. It's all powered by la Care Health Plan serving all Angelinos lacare dot org. Joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on Deck, I accept everybody for who they are. This is Dodger insider David Bassi. All right, David, Bobby Miller gets
sent to Triple A, Oklahoma City. What exactly does this demotion mean? All right? Well, first and foremost, Tim, Bobby has not pitched well, he's given up seventeen runs in his last nineteen innings. Pitched last night was a disaster for him. There's no way to sugarcoat it. But this is also kind of a strategic move by the Dodgers. Number one. I heard what Dave Roberts had to say, and that makes complete sense.
Like I said, first and foremost, you got to get Bobby Miller right, and trying to do that in between starts just does not seem to have worked. So send him to camel Back Ranch, then send him out on a rehab assignment to see whether or not whatever he's worked on plays in games, even in Triple A. Because big picture, the Dodgers do need Bobby Miller. They are counting on having Bobby Miller back. And also for the here and now for the Dodgers, because Bobby Miller only went four innings yesterday,
that Dodger bullpen was taxed even more. In the last ten games, Dodgers starters have only thrown forty four innings, so we're seeing more of the bullpen earlier in games the last ten. So with the Dodgers wanted to get Bobby Miller right, he's not going to make another start before the All Star break, why not send him down in this way to be able to bring back Ricky Vanasko a fresh arm for this Dodger bullpen. So this is a
multi layer type of decision. But first and foremost is the Dodgers need to get Bobby Miller on track again. And for me, I said this after the game. It's really I would say forty percent mechanics, sixty percent between his ears. I said this before as well. He's got to stop chasing spin rate and velocity. Oral Herscheizer talks about this all the time. You
can't try to make the greatest pitch ever every single pitch. You've got to be able to be consistent with your pitches, and it just feels like Bobby Miller at times during starts tries to throw the greatest pitch ever when things are not going his way, he's got to look in the mirror. He's got to mature, and he's got to come back more season than what we've seen so far, David has driven by Ford. There's one thing we like his choices. Find yours with the Ford F one to fifty gas hybrid or all
electric tough this mark can only be called f one to fifty. I don't know if it's similar, but a year ago Gavin Stone ran into a rough patch when he was called up, got sent back down to Triple A, came back at a pretty good September, and his transitioned into this year a great twenty twenty four. Well, the biggest reason why is he did look in the mirror and he did realize is what he needed to do to get
better. During the offseason, he got bigger, he got stronger, and he also worked on the two new pitches that you saw at the end of last year, a two seam pitch and also a cut fastball to go with working on a slider to go with his great change up and four seam fastball. So this guy actually did look in the mirror and got better, and during the offseason didn't just sit home and play golf and hang out with his
friends. I'm not saying that's what Bobby Miller did, but I'm just saying Gavin Stone showed a lot of maturity coming back to spring training a much different looking pitcher, and you've seen the results during the season. Miguel Vargas back in the lineup again today playing left field for the Dodgers. What's been the key for him looking more like a big leaguer? Well, there we go to him. Another guy that got more mature during the last six months.
It was a wake up call for him to be sent down. It was probably the lowest point of his professional career. He went to Oklahoma City, tried to get back to who he was as a hitter, and during the offseason went to work with JD. Martinez in Miami. And JD. Martinez has also helped Miguel Vargas stay prepared by telling him to simulate at bats when he's not in the game, and look, his preparation got him to where he's at. Where he's now getting regular starts, so I know we get
caught up in exit velocity, spin ray velocity. It's more between the years and maturing as a young player. Let's hope he can get right quick and come back and help out this Dodgers team. David appreciate it. We'll check back in with you in just a little bit. Coming up here on Dodgers on Deck though, we'll get your Dodgers Magical moments. Well, the good news in baseball, Rick, there's always a game tomorrow, and for the Dodgers that's good news. Yeah. For the White Sox maybe not good news, although they won today. Can you believe that Sox? Actually, I guess you're right. If you're the White Sox or A's, you don't want a
game tomorrow, you want the end of the season. That happened. Yeah, you look for volunteers to go out and turn on the sprinklers at the stadium, so maybe the game get flooded out early, no doubt. I love I've never heard that before, but that's exactly pay menture. You've never heard about that. No, that was the thing that used to be done in the minor leagues years and years ago. Especially teams say the last game
of the season, you were going nowhere but home. You had no chance of winning your division or going to postseason play, and it was basically nine innings getting the cars or getting a flight, and you go home. And there were many many times that just somehow, some way the sprinklers got turned on and they could not play the game the next day. Well, maybe they'll try that later in the year between the Whites. In fact, let
me, in fact, let me tell you this. I'm going to fly over to Phoenix and I'm going to be inducted into Arizona State Hall of Fame. Right, So, I go over and a gentleman says, look, I will pick you up. Go to one of the rental car counters and I will be there and I will pick you up. So I fly over to Phoenix. I go to one of the rental car kiosk and I'm standing there and I hear my name page. I said, well, the gentleman must have arrived to pick me up and take me to campus and we're going
to go to lunch and then the ceremonies. Okay, fine, So here comes the guy. I go over and I meet him and he goes, oh, you're here, and I went, well, yeah, you asked me to come over. He goes, well, we have a problem. He goes, what's sata. Well, the ceremony has been canceled. And I said, what you change your mind all of a sudden, you don't want me? Okay fine. He goes, no, here's what happened. He said, last night at the stadium. Just outside the stadium, there's
a car accident knocked down a power pole. The sprinklers were on. Therefore the timer did not get to the turnoff time. The field is flooded, so the game has been canceled. But since you're here. I guess we can take you to lunch. So that was my induction into the Arizona State the Sports Hall of Fame. Wow, at least you made it in, right, Rick. Are they trying to send you a message? Hey? I keep checking everyone smile Spring trying to go and go over. No,
my name's still up there. So what the heck? Hey? Rick? Last night you sounded like you were getting a little hot under the caller with the umpire crew needing to call back to New York for a rule that they should have known. Same umpire crew. No night, No, I wasn't a little hot under the candle, I said. I was absolutely flabbergasted that a majorly umpire and crew did not know the rule. And the rule has been put in and the X number of runs if you're ahead behind you can
use a position player now to pitch. I was. I was overwhelmed. I was befuddled. And for a major umpire to have to call New York delay a game, you have to call New York for clarifying a rule. I was a little surprised that the Dodgers did not come out with a rule book from the dungout too to be honest with you. You know this is
a day also for those that did not hear. Bobby Miller has been returned to Triple A and he's got a lot of, i think a soul searching to do, because since he returned from the injured list, is earned reun average nine point eighty seven. And he simply was all over the place last night in the full innings, nine runs on ten hits, a couple of home runs, while he walked I'll say only three. He just really did not have a command of the strike zone at all. Yeah, it's not
about mechanics with Bobby. It's more about, like you said, Rick, do some soul searching, take a look in the mirror and realize what's important to be able to get through a major league start. Yeah, and the Dodgers need him. I mean, let's come right down to brass tacks. The Dodgers, who have now used twenty nine pitchers this year. Already we're not quite to the All Star break. Twenty nine pitchers have thrown for the
Dodgers. They need Bobby Miller, along with some of the guys right now they're on the injure list, some are getting closer and closer such as Clayton Kersham. Not the case with Joe Kelly. He's maybe gone a little backwards as to the last simulated game that he has. The Dodgers desperately need some pitching, because if we look back to June sixteenth, very quickly, only the New York Yankees starting pitcher since the sixteenth of June have a higher combined
earned run average than the Dodgers doing their starting pitchers. That's got to change, without a doubt, Rick, and it starts tonight. We'll look forward to hearing you and Tim Nevertt a little bit later in the show and on the call tonight. Stay stay cool up there, hey, enjoy it in your nice air conditioned a studio there. Great to be back. I had a blast yesterday and it's really really nice being back home.
What was your reaction to the fans reacting to you in your first start back? It was awesome, man, It's you know, playing in front of these fans is a real blessing. And I had like a nice ovation when I came back, and that was pretty heart woman. Can you describe the difference between this James Outman and the one we last saw? Uh? I think I don't know. I mean, I'm still the same guy, still the same same player, just a feel more relaxed and I'm just gonna
go out there and play and kind of try and keep it simple. Now. Did you feel like you could catch your breath in Oklahoma City? Yeah? I think I had time to kind of step back and work on a few things and you know, just kind of take things day by day and get back to the player that got me to the big leagues. I was tracking you when you went down and it told me that James Outman wasn't sulking. He was taking this as a challenge to be better mentally. How did
you handle that? I just told myself still playing the same game. And you know, whether whether there's you know, the bright lights or not, it's still it's still baseball. So I just wanted to get out there and you know, continue to try and make myself a better player than I was yesterday. Can you tell us so, without getting too inside baseball, just what you worked on to try to be better? Uh, mainly just timing, just getting on time, being relaxed and getting my swing off. Who
helped you the most? Oh, it was a it was a it was a group effort. Yeah, to say the least. There's a group effort for sure. Many burst hitting coach and triple As huge help just getting confidence back, and Brett Hill came down for a while for a week. But yeah, definitely a group effort. I kind of grabbed a lot from a lot of different people. It takes a village, right, definitely. James Outman is our guest. Tarzan is back with the Dodgers, and I know
you're an unselfish player. It's about not only you but the team. How happy are you for the success of guys like Andy Pajez and Miguel Vargas. It's great, it's you know, you come up through the system with those guys, and it's fun when you can kind of reach the pinnacle of your careers in terms of where you're playing together. Gavin Lux is still here, James, How does that make you feel? It makes me feel happy. He's a lovable type of guy, right, Gavin. He's just staring at

It's Citizen's Bank Park on another warm and humid evening, Game two of the three
game set. Dodgers dropping game one last night, looking to get even tonight and they'll do it behind Gavin Stone, and the young right hander really has been one of the Dodgers' most consistent pitchers, if not the most consistent pitcher, a record of nine and two, and this year has been a very very good year for Gavin Stone. Kind of a coming out party for him.
We saw him at times last year. We knew he had some good stuff, especially the change up, but he's really really been putting all of his weapons on display this year, and he's just able to repeat the delivery. One of the amazing things, too, is that first of all the yearly era is very good three point zero three, even better on the road. How much better. Oh, it's the fourth best in Major League Baseball with starting pitchers two point three away from Dodgers Stadium. So for Gavin Stone,
again, he's a guy that moves the ball around. Relatively little batting average against him. I think as a hitter you can't just be looking for one pitch because he's not afraid to throw any the four and they're pretty good on top of it. And the Dodgers have been getting him some runs because they have won twelve of his previous sixteen starts coming into this one tonight.
And Dave Roberts too has been making a play for Gavin Stone. He's been making a case publicly that Gavin should be in the All Star Game, and point very well taken. Dodgers need to understand. Look, don't chase a lot of pitches out of the strike zone against Sanchez tonight, the left hander. The other part two a lot of change ups. Third highest percentage of change ups thrown fast bowl Away has gotten pounded over a four hundred average.
Hopefully he tries to go fast ball away a lot tonight. Lefty Christopher Sanchez going for the Phillies, Gavin Stone for the Dodgers as the Dodgers look to get back in the win column here in game two of this three game set. All right, thank you guys. First pitch is next from Philadelphia. Afterwards, David Vessie's got you covered with all the postgame festivities Dodger talk as well. Enjoy this. I'm Tim Casey has been wrong with casino.
