And now your host for Morongo Casino Dodgers on Tech, Damn Chase, Hi, everybody, and welcome in to Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Hope you're enjoying your Saturday afternoon. Your Los Angeles Dodgers fifty one up, thirty two down on the season, first place atop the NL West. After getting walked off last night in San Francisco, the Dodgers look to get back on track this afternoon up at Oracle Park as they take on the Giants. Tyler Glass

now on the mound, first pitch coming up at four fifteen. Between then and now, we got a lot to get to you here on Wronggo Casino Dodgers on Deck. You'll hear from the manager, Dave Roberts. We'll preview this pitching matchup. You'll hear from Landon Nac who pitched last night. You'll also hear from Dodger reliever Evan Phillips. David vas Say. We'll check in throughout the show, and in just a few minutes we'll check in well.

Rick Monday and Steven Nelson out the Galpin Motors Broadcast booth. Well, last night Landon Nack was pretty good, but the Dodgers offense couldn't come through down the stretch. The big right hander four and two third innings allowed one run on five hits. The Dodgers gave him a lead to work with, but not until the fifth inning. That's when the Dodgers got things going against Logan Webb. Miguel Rojas a leadoff single. The next batter, Gavin Lux eat

off batter of board for the second time today. Gavin Luck swings to the first pitch, line drive left center field gap. That'll split the gap and one hop all the way to the wall. Rojas is gonna be waved around by Dino Evil? Is there gonna be a relay? No? An RBI double for Gavin Lucks. The Dodgers on the board first, Gavin Lunx with his eighth double of the season, his twentieth run batted in as the Dodgers took a one to nine in lead. Lux would advance to third on a

wild pitch. Three batters later, up came Will Smith, we now north of seventy pitches, his seventy second. On the way to Will Smith, Will swings in lines up base, hitting the center field take that Lux will step on home plate. The Dodger lead. How about that? Indeed, Will Smith drives in a run, the Dodgers up two to nothing. Landing Neck had a two to nothing league going to the bottom of the fifth when Mantos would hit a solo home run to get the Giants on the board.

It was a two to one Dodgers lead. In the sixth inning for a cal State Fullertson standout Matt Chapman a two run home run that gave the Giants a three to two lead. The Dodgers down but not out. In the top half of the ninth inning, Jason Hayward a sackfly, scoring Andy Piez, who hit a triple before that, that tied the game at three. The Dodgers had new life going to the bottom of the eighth with Blake Trinon on the mound when the Giants walked him off as a leadoff walk to Mantos.

Fitzgerald pinch running. The Giants have the potential winning run on base, nobody out. In the bottom of the ninth, Trinon's one two pitch in yer right field hit deep wisely toss the pet That bowl is going. The Giants have walked it off. Somebody named Brent Wiseley with a two run walk off home run, just his third home run of the season. That one off Blake Trining in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Giants come back and win it. Last night they beat the Dodgers five to three, Daniel

Hudson with the blown save Blake Trining. With the loss, the Dodgers have their four game winning streak come to win in. The Dodgers fall to fifty one and thirty two on this season, their lead in the division now seven and a half games over the San Diego Padres, eleven games up on the San Francisco Giants, who get the win in the series opener last night.

But a new day, new game and Tyler Glass now on the mound for the Dodgers Game two of this three game weekend series from Oracle Park and with more, let's head up to the Bay Area the GALPU Moots broadcast booth and welcome in Rick Monday and Stephen Nelson, Guys, thank you to another gorgeous day here in San Francisco. Earlier start time, but maybe a little bit more wins today. MO, what do you think looking out here right now?

Well, there's a little bit of wind and blowing out towards right center field at least to begin with one thing we know on the banks of the San Francisco Bay that win could change. And yeah, we get pretty good windage indication by just looking at the ships anchored out of the bay in which way that they are sitting at anchor. So, guy, he's blowing out towards the right center towards right field a little bit today. But we'll find

out one thing about it. Also with the Tyler Glass now throwing, and he's given up eleven home runs, but for the most part, he does not have a lot of fly balls that are hit in the ball games, and he gets a lot of ground balls. In fact, six grounded into double plays. Hopefully he does that today. I would love that again. There's so many outings this year. We're like, this is the best we've seen tyler Glass. Now, wait, this is the best we've seen Tyler

Glass. Now, but last start in the Freeway series seven innings against the Halo shut him down, only one to earn run, struck out ten and he we got through those innings on just seventy four pitches. Yeah, and he attacks the strike celle, there's no offens and butts about it. You know, this is a big games, a big series, the last series the Dodgers will play in San Francisco this year during the regular season itself. And yesterday last night the seventh sellout that they've had. They expect a big

crowd today as well. Don't know if you noticed it coming in the buses or none. If you want to park right across the street from the ballpark today, the charge is one hundred and fifty dollars. And as we were waiting for the busses to pull in, we saw two cars pull in. They had their hands out. They put the cars in reverse and they back down. They decided to go somewhere else and walk a little bit farther.

Yes, can I please put this on Rick Monday's tab Rick without to park the garden Monday with an m Yeah, a hard pass, hard pass. So last night, you know, the win didn't matter for the three balls that were hit by the San Francisco Giants that left the yard, Matos Chapman and then Brett Wisey's first career walk off hit, the two rung shot off Blake Trent, and the Dodgers walked off for the fourth time this year. I want to say, mo and so that ended a couple of streaks.

Yesterday, the win streak ends at four. Show hey, with Tany's RBI streak ended at ten. Yeah, he'll get over it. I know that from it. I know that from a personal situation has ended at ten. So he had just started another one today. Knows out of respect for you that he did not drive in a run right, Yeah, trust me, he was totally oblivious to that. All right, Tim, We are going

to step aside here for now. We'll come back in a little bit talk more about Tyler Glass now and the bullpen that the Dodgers will face today in Game two of this series. The Dodgers trying to even things up against their rival Giants. All right, thank you, Nelly. If we get you down in the first pitch. Dodger fans, get your game day meal on. It's Shaky's Pizza Partner. No better time to order your Shaky's Pizza, Chicken and mojos than right now. It's Shaky's dot Com. Coming up here

on Rodgers on Deck. You'll hear from the manager Dave Roberts. We'll check in with David Veasse throughout the show. We'll hear from Evan Phillips. We'll dive deeper to this pitching matchup. But I'm next your Otani rewind and we'll hear from Landon Nack. So we're leading up to first pitch on this Saturday Dodgers and Giants from San Francisco. First pitch at four fifteen. Thanks for being with us. I'm Tim Kaks's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network is Lorongo Casino

Dodgers on Tim Dodgers on deck. Y'all on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball. Dodgers and Giants from San Francisco on this Saturday afternoon, Game two of this three game weekend series, Tyler Glass now on the Mountains. The Dodgers look to bounce back from a walk off loss last night. First pitch of Oracle Parks coming up at four fifteen. This is the Otani Rewhy Show. Hey Otani won for three last night with a walk on base twice,

now hitting three twenty two on this season. He did have his ten game consecutive streak of having an RBI come to an in last night as the Dodgers get walked off by San Francisco five to three. The O Tani rewind brought to you by Eto Nso, Japan's number one Green Tea and the tea that show Hey Otani Loves and drinks available to local diso stores Amazon at eto in dot com. That's I t O E n dot Com. Land and Nac

did not factor in the decision last night. He pitched really well four and two third Indians, gave it just one run on five hit, struck out seven along the way. The lone run that he gave up came on Almato's home run in the bottom half of the fifth inning and that was it. That left with the two to one Dodgers lead, but would leave and not get a decision in the game when it was all said and done, and

afterwards, Land and Nac talk with the media. I feel I feel like at the very beginning of the game, my throw was like a little off. We were we were still making pitches when we need to, but that was just a little off. And then kind of got my curve ball going a little bit, and I think that kind of like locked in the rest of the throw, and so after that, like some things felt much much

easier. And then yeah, fifth inning, you know, leave one over the plate obviously sometimes it's gonna happen, and then a couple of singles, but you know, stuff all good. Dave said ahead of your adding that the focus was just going as long as you can, as far as you

can. How do you just kind of manage yourself? I guess when that's kind of what's being told to you and you're trying to kind of get deep into the game things like that, I mean, you just kind of have to continue to go all out until it's your time to come out and make sure that you're kind of going all out every pitch because I mean, yeah again, like you don't know when your last pitch is, so I mean one hundred percent just trying to go all out the entire time and make every

pitch like it's going to be your last one and just keep on going. We're trying to go with that home run pitch, I was trying to go down in a way it just kind of leaked a little up middle a little bit and just kind of came back on me. What do you sort of

allowed you to start? I know, obviously being up and down while also being a rookie and trying to get your funeraly, Like, where's allowed you to sort of have the success you've had there at beginning since your big career At this point, I think it's it's just been kind of continuing to do my routine, kind of treat every odding the same little bit. It's like

getting up here and understanding that you don't need to do extra. You just need to make sure that you are executing your pitches, You're keeping them off balance and kind of moving things around and just not over complicating things on yourself. Do you any different having it's a little bit of a runway now in the rotation. I mean we continue to keep the same mindset, continue to

like you never know when your last ounting is up here. You just got to continue to take it day by day and just continue to work on your craft. All right, there's landed Neck. Last night did not factor the decision four and two third Indians gave up just the one run on five hit struckout seven. He has pitched really good in his time now up at the big leagues now making six starts on this season. Brought to you by Cars for Kids, The Easiest way to get rid of your old car Dodger fans

just donate. It's a day that car could be picked up tomorrow. Is that easy? Donat now with Cars for Kids dot Org. That's cars with a case still to come. Here on Dodgers on Deck will dive deeper into this pitching matchup with Tyler Klass Now on the Mount, David Vea Sego's one on one with Evan Philip. But up next we'll get to an injury report and we'll hear from the manager himself, Dave Roberts get his pregame thoughts. So we lead you up to first pitch, Dodgers and Giants from San Francisco.

I'm Tim Kasi's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network. This is Marongo Cassino Dodgers Hunting Game on your home for LA Dodgers Baseball. Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues on this Saturday afternoon Marongo Casino Resort and Spa a Grand Slam, four good times. We're leading up to Dodgers and the Giants or Oracle Park in San Francisco, Game two of this three game weekend series. First pitch coming up at four fifteen. He's the LA Dodgers injury report. Here's it of

my UCLA Healthy official medical partner of your Los Angeles Dodgers. Mookie Bets on the IL with a fractured hand, Yoshio Willyama Mota on the IEL at the strain road rotator cuff, Walker Buehler on the IL at the right hip soreness. Michael Grove on the IL right Brazier on the IL, Clayton Kershaw on the IL, Max Munsey on the I L. Even though he is starting to do baseball activities, Clayton Kershaw is gonna start throwing again after a week

hiatus coming up later on next week. All right, let's find out more if we check out with the Dodger skipper An questions for Dave? Dave, can you just describe Dave? Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with Dave Roberts. You got a glass now today four to fifteen start, You expect shadows, and I know that's talked about a lot, but how much of an advantage, even more of an advantage is that for Tyler? You know, it's certainly an advantage for any pitcher. I think with the

fifteen start in the summer, it's gonna affect the game. Later, so I think for us it'll be kind of the later innings, right, I think the shadows, well, we'll come into play. But you know, right now, Tyler's throwing the baseball extremely well. You know, it's two fastballs, it's the slider, it's the break in ball. So he's on a good right now. So I'm excited to see what happens tonight. You know about openers and how to construct the lineup, what went into the thinking

and what you're expecting. As far as the pitching deployment from the Giant side, you know, obviously they got this kid going and it should probably be one inning. That's kind of how they they've used him. So my first hitter outside of the you know show Hey and Freddie is Jason in the sixth, which I don't think that they'll get there. So it's a balanced lineup, and I feel that the guys we ran out there today it's going to be heavy, right I think, coming out of their pen. So we

met up pretty well today. I think. I know he plays against lefties and that happens not as often as righty's but as far as Miguel Vargas goes the second time around, what have you seen from him that has made him be more successful? You know, it's it's a situation with the roster where we're at that McGee's only Vargas is only playing verse left. But he's a guy that's built to play every day. I trust him first right handed pitching.

It's just with who we have giving other guys the opportunity to play versus right handers. I see a lot of confidence. He's watching the game, he's prepared, his swing is in a considerably better place. He's taken more aggressive swings, and he's really cleaned a lot of things up. So really excited to see, you know what he's done. You know, he looked back a year ago and he's a completely different player and person than he was

last year. How was he taken to that kind of role and how much is that sort of confidence he has right now for a player role to being away with that? You know, he's I don't think he's okay with it, and I don't expect it, but I think he understands what's around him. It certainly beats triple A, and I think the good thing about him is that he's not letting his lack of opportunity affect his mindset. All right, there's Dave robers down the dugout and talking a lot about Miguel Vargas.

Brought to you by Service Titan. Dave Roberts isn't tighten in his own right. He's got a plan before his team hits the field. You need one for your growing contracting business too. Check in with David Vassi Dodgers Giants first pitch

at four fifteen. I'm Tim Katsi's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network. This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on Tap on your home for the blue all season law Dodgers in San Francisco on this Saturday afternoon to take on the Giants. Tyler Glass now Eric Miller, who's the opener for the Giants first pitch at four fifteen. Dodgers fans and hands are listening and experience by downloading the iHeartRadio app.

It's free listen to all games in HD. It's all powered by Lacare Health Plan, serving all Angelina knows lacare dot Org joining Tim Kates on Dodgers on Deck. I accept everybody for who they are. This is Dodger insider David Basale. All right, DV. We heard your conversation with the man of the hour yesterday, Javier the bad Boy, and uh, well, are his five minutes of fame over? DV? I'm afraid so, Tim, Xavier the bad Boy is just a bad boy again and a clubhouse attendant,

but a very good one. And he took all of that in great stride, a little nervous when he spoke to the Japanese media yesterday with the same backdrop, by the way that Otani and Yamamoto speak to the Japanese media with. So he's just back to normal old Javier. Now, we heard Dave Roberts a little bit eluding you asked a question about Miguel Vargas. David, this is a different Miguel Vargas, and we saw the first half of last year, isn't it. Yeah, And what Dave Roberts said is one hundred

percent true. Miguel Vargas loves being in the major leagues. Even if he's not playing every day, it's still a better life than obviously the minor leagues. But Miguel Vargas told me earlier this afternoon that you know what, I want to play every day when I don't see my name in the lineup, yeah, my feelings get in the way, but I put my feelings in this locker, and once I put my uniform on, no more feelings. I'm part of the team, and whatever they need me to do, whenever

they call upon me, that's what I'm going to do. So that's a sign of maturity that Dave Roberts was talking about. And it's not just Miguel Vargas saying that to Dave Roberts, but those are his actions, and when he says it to somebody like me, who obviously I don't have as much influence on things as Dave Roberts does, that's genuine. And Miguel Vargus loves being part of this team. And like he told me, he said, he puts his feelings in his locker if he's not playing, but he's read

whenever called upon. David is driven by the fort F series, America's best selling trucks for forty seven years and counting Ford gives you freedom of choice. Gas hybrid electric head of your Southern California Ford Dealers and find yours fort F series built tough. There's a guy a couple boosts down from you. I believe DV that celebrating a big anniversary today. We'll hear the highlight coming up in just a couple of minutes. But it's a big day for him,

it really is. And you're talking about Fernando Valenzuela, who did not make the trip to San Francisco. Tim he's parts unknown in Los Angeles, Greater Los Angeles right now. But yes, it's fitting since number thirty four was retired and today is the thirty fourth anniversary of Fernando Valezuela's one and only career no hitter. It was against the Saint Louis Cardinals, and interesting enough, his former teammate Pedro Guerrero, who at the time was playing for the Cardinals,

grounded into the game ending double play. It was up the middle want Samuell was the second baseman for the Dodgers. He stepped on the second base bag and threw it over to the then first baseman, Hall of Famer Eddie Murray for the Dodgers, and Fernando embraced Mike Sooshia, his longtime friend, longtime catcher, as they celebrated his one and only career no hitter, And obviously Vin Scully made that very famous call, if you have a sombrero,

throw it to the sky. Yeah, we'll hear it coming up in just a couple of minutes. David kek Hernandez. What adjustments is he making or not making right now? Yeah? Not sure. If you noticed this Tim Wednesday night in Chicago, he had a very different batting stance. He was a little bit more with his hands away from his body and the bat a

little bit more straight up to the sky. And I talked to Aaron Bates, one of the Dodgers hitting coaches, about it yesterday, and he told me that's an adjustment they decided to go with to keep Key Kate behind the baseball. It has to do with his hips and how it triggers his hips, and not to get a little bit too ahead of himself. So even a guy that's ten years in his major league career making adjustments because obviously he has not been hitting the ball that well, and he has made an adjustment

just to trigger the hips a little bit differently. All right, DV. Appreciate it, great stuff. We'll check back with you in just a little bit. Also looking forward to your conversation with Evan Phillips that's coming up in about twenty minutes. Coming up next though here on Dodgers on Deck, you're Dodgers Magical Moment. Yeah, DV alluded to a big day for Fernando Valenzuela. You'll hear the call from the Great Vincecully when we come back. Dodgers

And now joined by David Maas saying, here's La Dodgers broadcaster and World Series champion Dodger Rick Monday. Rick the Dodgers back in harness tonight, as you like to say here this afternoon, Tyler Glass now on the mound. Isn't he tough enough to hit without hitters having to deal with the shadows that will

be here today? Hey, you may be onto something I did not like hitting with shadows in particular, David, here's the shadows part that to me was the most difficult, and that's when the infield is in dark shadow and then you're looking at a very bright, I mean a very bright illuminated background.

Also, if that shadow is about three quarters away from home plate to the mound, the guy who's delivering the balls in bright sunshine, then it goes into the dark shadows, and from a hitter's perspective, it's like you lose the ball for a few feet because it goes from illuminated to all of a sudden in shadows. It also presents a problem defensively because you're standing at bright sunshine. It's like standing on the beach and you're looking into dark shadows

at home plate. Not as much here as Wrigley Field. I think Wrigleyfield can be the most difficult, and the reason is because the way the stands are stacked upon themselves so much, you know Dodger's standing for example, they're moved back, so one is not really creating a dark shadow on the all

the way down on the field level. But it is more difficult here, and I think that's where you see some outfielders that maybe lose a step in trying to go after the ball, not really picking it up immediately off the bat. Last night, speaking of outfielders not picking up the ball, it was an exciting play. I told Andy pa Has a few minutes ago how exciting his triple was. In the ninth inning. Elliott Ramos was there,

but it clanked off his glove. He climbed it. You know the other thing about Paz Jose Moden I talked about this on the bus to the ballpark this morning. Anie pie has showed me something last night, not necessarily with that triple, with a pitch that was inside to him, that was upstairs, and he gets back and he's just stared out at the pitcher. Now, stairs don't win ball games, but the fact that here's a young man that hey, look, you're not going to intimidate me. And it was

right after that he took a good swing. So those are the little things that I look at for young players, how they're maturing, how they're not going into a corner, how they're not going to be intimidated. And for Adie Pyez, he is not going to be intimidated. It's funny you bring that up because He also told me that that pitch inside and he motioned inside

and I said, hey, we saw you look out to Duvall. He said, I did, okay, I'm not going to be scared good exactly, And I love that because you cannot you can't whimper, you know, the old saying there's no crying in baseball, at least not publicly. But how do you react right then and there immediately? And when he showed that to me, he's going to be just absolutely fine. Not that he had

to prove that to me. He's really advanced beyond his years and what he's doing really in the pressure cooker and playing a difficult position up the middle. You have to be strong up the middle, and he's helped be strong up the middle. Hey, he said one hundred miles an hour and emotion as Devall buzzed the tower. Yeah, in the FASc lating and you can see close to one hundred. With the starter for the Giants today, who is going to go the first inning? So it's going to be bullpen back committee.

We'll see how it goes. The Giants bull been comes in. They're a little bit gassed, as far as you know. They had to be used a lot during the series preceding the Dodger's coming into town. We'll find out how that happens to work out as well. Knew obviously as they rotate umpires around the diamond. Last night, rookie Edwin Jimenez had a rough night. And when I know he had a rough night, Rick is when a player like Will Smith, who's the catcher A and B doesn't complain a lot

is complaining. The antennas go up a little bit more. Yeah, well, let me give you the report and we do this and I said last night, and not to single out umpires. They have a very difficult job to do. But if if an infielder misses the ball and outfielder misses the ball or doesn't get a good jump, we talk about it where the eyes and ears and people in their cars are at home listening to the radio don't know what happened, and it's our job to say, have a bad swing

on a bad pitch. We talk about it. Well with the Edwin Jimenez, who is a rookie umpire. You know, if you're one hundred percent right, then there's a great line. I think it was. Bill Kunkle was americaly umpire at the time when it was Separate American and Nashal came out with a line that says, people expect you to be one hundred percent right

on opening day and get better as the season goes along. Well for mister Jimenez, his rating last night in called Strike's accuracy was only seventy four percent. That's the lowest rating that we have seen of a major league umpire in a game this year. I'm a big believer, Rick. When a player like yourself did back in the day have a bad game, or anybody on the Dodgers has a bad game, they have to stand up and talk publicly to the media. Yep, don't it. I feel like umpires get let

off the hook a lot of times. Yeah, because they're not approachable. If there is a controversial play, there will be a crew chief that may engage, doesn't have to, but may engage with a question or two from the media, but they'll send a pull reporter in the room. Well, I said last night in the broadcast that the homeplate umpire last night was getting more looks in a department store window with a fire sales sign posted up in it. That's the best way to describe it as only Rick Monday can is

our time? Up? It is Rick, I'll bring you some garlic fries. A little bit later, Hey, I a bad idea. Thanks Rack. We'll check in with you and Steven Nelson a little bit later. Forward to it, David. We'll send it back to Tim Kates in the studio. Thanks a lot of DV. Dodgers Baseball is brought to you by Speedy Cash, official sponsor of every LA weekend. Find out more. It's Speedycash

We'll be back with Steven Nelson right before first pitch with the keys to the game. But up next, so we'll high and tight with Dodger closer Evan Phillips leading up to first pitch from San Francisco on this Saturday afternoon Dodgers and Giants, Game two of this three game weekend series. I'm Tim Kats's

Los Angeles Dodgers audio nowhere. This is Rono Cassino Dodgers game on your home for LA Dodgers Baseball Dodgers and Giants. Tyler Glass now on the mound for the Blue. Eric Miller will be the opener for the Giants first pitch coming up at four fifteen. Dodgers Baseball's presented by Children's Hospital Los Angeles. This is high and tight. We're joined right now by the Dodgers super reliever who checks his ego at the door but performs like a champion every night for the Dodgers, and that is Evan Phillips. Evan, thanks a lot for the time. Appreciate it. Yeah, of course, David, thanks for having me. I had to break up my

conversation with Blake Snow when I saw you playing catch. Your catch time was over. I had a jog over here. Well, I appreciate you making the time for me to I sorry to interrupt your combo, but you absolutely I feel like I had to tell you that full disclosure because so many of your teammates get upset when I talk to him. Not a problem with me. I appreciate the honesty. And when I said, you check your ego

at the door. There's not too many relievers that obviously get the line's share of the ninth inning but also understands the role and the importance of pitching in other innings. How has that been able to stay consistent with you? You know, I've ut my role and as a major league pitcher, it has always kind of been flexible up until the past you know, year or two. So I've understood the value of of every out throughout the ball game,

and uh, you know, the Dodgers value those same things. So I think, uh, it's kind of like a perfect harmony when you know that's mindset and it combines with their mindset to get the job done, to win the game. Right. So, me being versatile in some different roles when called upon, I think in me having a you know, pretty standard mindset with that I got, I don't get, you know, to uppor two

down based on what inning I'm throwing. I think it allows us to put the you know, best you know, guys out there and their roles to win the game, and you know, more often than not that is going to be me in the ninth inning to finish the game. But I think it provides flexibility in our bullpen, and I think you know, the seven other guys down in the pen, whoever we have on a given days, they're also willing to do the same thing. I thought the great example of

that was in Chicago. You face the same groupings of hitters in the eighth inning one night, and then the same in the ninth inning. Yeah, exactly, And I think you know that speaks volumes to how we'll approach, you know, certain lineups in certain games. So I think, uh, you know, not being you know, afraid of those situations and you try not to have you know, too much ego to say that I should only

pitch in the ninth inning or for whatever reason that may be. Yeah, I owe a lot to this team, So I'm certainly not going to be the kind of guy that you know is stubborn about when I'm gonna pitch. I'm happy to do whatever is and preferably it's one that's helping us win. Yeah, it feels like we all need constant reminders. When it comes to the Dodgers, it's not about the inning that you pitch in, but the

groupings of hitters that you're prepared for. Yeah, more often than not, you know, especially earlier, and you know when the bullpen got started to get into the game, it's all about their laying and about you know, what sequence of hitters is coming up with the score is you know, certain kind of leverage situations like that. Those are all indicators of who's going to go win win, Uh. You know. Bullpen availability is another thing that

comes into play. You'll see from time to time when we have to force guys into different spots because we have you know, pittures that are down that day, things like that. But I'll tell you what, just the way all that information is communicated, you know, day in day out here is what makes this machine run so well. Heavian Phillips is our guest super reliever for the Dodgers. You've had success now two three years running with the Dodgers.

Do you feel like you've taken the next level now where you're starting to read swings from hitters and be able to make those adjustments in real time. You know, I really don't even know if it's about, you know, the the in game adjustments to the hitters. I think it's it's still all about what I'm doing out there. I think our preparation and our preparation and our you know, attack plan is always going to be what we fall back

on. There may be moments where you have to react to what the hitter is telling you, but more often than not, we're gonna stick with what we're doing. And I think, like you said, to your point, I've had, you know, two or three years of success at this point.

But to be honest with you, I think I'm finally at that stage where I fully believe in myself and I have that confidence rebuilt, you know, from all those times you throw out my struggles early in my career, I think I finally feel one convicted and what I'm doing, I feel convicted in, you know, my adjustments up there on the mount and what I need to do succeed each night. Since you came off the injured list, do you feel like you've been able to pick up where you left off?

Mostly? You know, there's been a little like hiccups here and there, and like you, sometimes it's in catch play. Sometimes it's in the game where you're fighting a feeling versus you know, what's what you're seeing. And that was definitely the frustration going on the ils. I was in such a good spot with you know, all of those things, and I was trying

to maintain those things while I was down for four weeks. So there have been moments here and there where you know, I feel like I'm going to execute my slider in a certain spot and it just you know, stays on the plate or you know, trying to expand and things like that. So those fields are still coming back to full circle for me. But you know, the work is there every every single day, and we trust that it's going to be there when we need to. I know, you're always working

on yourself every day. What is the evolution of Evan Phillips. Is it a new pitch or constantly being able to perfect the pitches that you already have. Yeah, at this point, I think it's just continuing to you know, to strive for perfection. And what I'm doing, I think the mix that I've been showing now for a couple of years has been working well.

So it's more so about you're putting the game, playing together and understanding how to attack a hitter, understanding the the situation of the ending, and that has been the biggest adjustment to the ninth inning, and you know, closing games, finishing games, Understanding how to finish the game and understanding that, you know, win a guy's on base and it's a you know what kind of threat is at the play, all the all these factors that come into

play. Talking with guys that have done it in our bullpen, talking with staff that have you know, seen it and experienced it. Learning that part of the game has been the next step this year. Evan Phillips is our guest. He's not just about himself. He has a great baseball IQ. So I'll ask you this, Evan, Nobody's been able to answer it. We saw Johann Ramirez in Cincinnati where Dave Roberts need to go out there to set him down. Ever since that hug, the famous hug on the mound,

seems like a different pitcher. But there's got to be more than just that, sure, And I think that's that's where the day in the day day out work comes from. I think you see that moment on the mout and you see, you know, the recent success since then, but the credit goes to Johan's work day in and day out. And I think, you know, our pitching staff or pitching coaches have done a great job, you know, really giving him some length and some runway to really see this

through. And he has shown us tremendous growth in a short amount of time. So I think you're saying that he's earned himself even more opportunity down the line. So I think we'll continue to see a lot of Johann Ramirez and hopefully he can continue to run with it. What about Anthony Benda. Here's another guy that was cut loose, the Dodgers pick him up and now he seems to have a lot of trust from Dave Roberts. Yeah, AB's in

this category. You know, a guy I feel like he was similar to myself when I first got to the Dodgers, where he had no other choice but to listen at this point in his career. I think the Dodgers brought him in and saw, you know, something that they liked, and then we got him with our team, our group and introduced a couple of new things, and he's been able to run with it as well, so I think he's been a great piece for us so far, and we can hoping

that can continue to build as well. Evan, is it a case where at a certain point in time in your career you finally give in and maybe be less stubborn than a guy just coming in? And you know, I guess when you first get here, you feel like you have it all figured out. You know, it's certainly it's more of an independent like like case

to case situation. Right, So you look at any any acquisition we bring in, you know, every season, right, so like this year, you look at ti Oscar Hernandez, who has had plenty of success, all Star player in his career. He wanted more, he wanted a championship, and I think he knows that the Dodgers handle things differently. Here. You look at a guy and maybe we talk about the pitchers. We talked about Kevin Biggio as well, like another guy that has had success at the major

league level. We bring him in. He's willing to listen, he's willing to learn, and we're hoping we can take it somewhere. So I think that mindset when you come to the Dodgers and you know that the goal is to build a better version of yourself to help this team win a championship. That message is really clear here, and I think it helps guys on a day to day basis get their work in and have a plan to how to get better. Would you even say a player of Chilio Tani's caliber came here

and now he wants more from himself. Absolutely, Shohay Mookie, Freddie Freeman, all those guys when they first got to the Dodgers, it was they signed here for a reason. They signed here to win championships and to build better versions of themselves and help you know, they're part of it and help the team win games. So I think you know, there's no one that's immune to it on this team. I think it's one of the Dodgers standards

that we all, you know, kind of abide by here. I think it's it's a great recipe, you know, to win baseball games, and now our next step is putting that together in the postseason winning a championship. I know you're always thinking the game, seeing what's going on around the league. As we are just a month away from the trade deadline, do you start to run scenarios and mock trades. You know, I definitely don't. I don't put names to it by any means, but you know there's plenty

of that going on behind the scenes. You know, I wouldn't be surprised if we see some movement. I think it's natural for competitive teams to want to get better. And I can probably say this for as far as our front office goes that they're in the business of getting better and winning baseball game. So if an opportunity to work to present itself, I'm sure we won't be shy to make that happen. So you're not like Zach Granki back in the day where he's on the Dougat railing and tells a j Ellis I would

trade you. No, definitely not who I am. But I've heard those stories and they're all pretty incredible. Evan, thanks a lot for the time. Great to see you and your family on this road trip, and continued success and health the rest of the way. Yeah, sir, thank you very much. There he is the man, the super reliever, nice guy off the field, animal on the mound. Evan Phillips will send it back to you studio Tim. All right, thanks a lot of DV Thank you

They make it easy. Eric Miller, twenty six year old left hander, will be the opener for the Giant. So

what is a bullpen? Game two and two of the three seventy nine ERA, fourth round pick of the Phillies in twenty nineteen out of Stanford. Traded to the Giants before the twenty three season, where he spent all year in TRIPLEA. Made the opening day roster this year thirty nine appearances. This is his seventh start as the opener. He's a four seam fastball guy, a changeup, and a slider. He's got a one to seventeen ERA with five

walks and eight strikeouts and six starts this year in thirty nine games. Well, that's tied for the fourth most of the Major leagues. Left handed batters hitting one to thirty off of him, right handed batters hitting two to thirty nine with six home runs off him. Tyler Glass now on the mountain for

the Dodgers eight and five with a two and eight eight ERA. Thirty year old right hander in his first season with the Dodgers, making his seventeenth start last timeout seven shutout innings, two runs, two hits while striking out two to ten for his eighth win of the season. That was against the Angels. He struck out double digit batters six times already this season. He leads the major leagues in strikeouts, whip and his third in batting average against.

Facing the Giants for a fifth time in his career, second time this season, He's three and zero with a one eighty e R and twenty three strikeouts. He faced them back on April third, going six innings, loving three runs on four hit seven strikeouts in a win. Tyler Glass now Eric Miller, Dodgers Giants. We are fifteen minutes away for first pitch. The keys of the game. Our next I'm sim Kates's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network.

Before first pitch, ted Beck out to the booth Rick Monday, Steven Nelson, guys, Hey, get tim getting closer and closer to the four to fifteen scheduled start time the Dodgers and Giants Game two of this series. Logan Webb, the game one starter for San Francisco, was the only announced starting pitcher in this series for SF. That's because he's one of the rare healthy starters in their rotation. Jordan

Hicks, a converted reliever, he is there as well. But so many guys on the injine list, you know, Blake Snell, Alex Cobb, Kyle Harrison, Keaton Win the list. It keeps going on for them, and so Logan Webb. Him getting through seven innings last night was was huge for Bob Melvin because it helps give their bullpen a breather. Knowing that we got potentially two bullpen games lined up for the Dodgers against the Giants here these next two games. Yeah, and I think if you look at San Francisco,

they're gonna start Eric Miller, the left hander. First of all, he throws very hard. The second thing is when you start to look at us, so, oh my goodness, is eight start of the season, well all eight, including today, had been as the opener. He has averaged eleven to twenty pitches in the game. But here's why he's starting the ballgame today. He equalizes left handers they've hit only won thirty What about lefties in the Dodger line? Obviously Otani down the leadoff spot, the third batter,

the left hander Freddie Freeman. So trying to really eliminate if you can instead of nine innings, they're hoping is very good against the two of the three first batters and being left handed, and reduce it to eight innings and try and win it that way. The Dodgers' record against left handed starters this year is very good. You look at it, say twenty two and eight. Well, four of those eight losses have been against left handed openers.

They're one and four when facing a left handed opener, as they will tonight against Eric Miller. So it's a strategy that the Dodgers have seen and it's been effective against them this year. And they've also seen Miller in fact four different games, all in relief, two times in May twice. Also if you go back to April. But again he's not going to be in there for very long. This is his eight start again as an opener, plus thirty two strictly out of the bullpen, but one thing about it, I

have to look for changeups. He's gonna throw some heat and high heat at home plate. Well, we're gonna see heat on both sides. The miller from the left for the Giants, and of course Tyler Glass now from the right side for the Dodgers. Already at one hundred innings this season, just the third time he sent the century mark for innings pitch in a single season in his career. He has been dynamite for the Dodgers his first year.

He is probably going to be an All Star, and hopefully he can pitch the Dodgers to a win today to even this three game series here by the Bay. Time back to you, all right, appreciate it, guys. Dodgers fifty one and thirty two. The Padres, they've already won today. They just beat the Boston Red Sox. They won five in a row, nine of their last ten. They're starting to catch up.
