And now your host for Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Damn Cays Hi, everybody, and welcome in to Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Hope you're well on this Friday night. You're Los Angeles Dodgers. Twenty games over five hundred at fifty one and thirty one, first place, the top of the NL West after a sweep of the White Sox. The Dodgers are now in San Francisco for the start of a three game weekend series against the Giants' first pitch
from Oracle Park is coming up at seven fifteen. Between then and now, we got a lot to get to here on Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck, we're gonna hear from the manager, Dave Roberts. We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup. David Vaz say is gonna go one on one with the man of the hour, Javier Herrera, Dodger bat boy who saved the life of
many inside that Dodger dugout on Wednesday night. Shortly, we'll check in with Kirsten Watson from Sports to at LA and in just a few minutes we'll visit with Rick Monday and Tim nevert out at the Gallpin Motors Broadcast Booth well Wednesday night in Chicago. Stone threw a gym as the Dodgers got the sweep on the south side. Gavin Stone continues to impress. The rookie right hander for the Dodgers. Was his best outing so far, a complete game shutout.
He scattered just four hits along the way while punching out seven for good What they have not been able to do? And look at what Stone is doing to two slider swing and a miss strike three. Strikeout numbers seven for Gavin Stone. He retires the side in order in the bottom of the seven. Seven strikeouts for Gavin Stone. He did not walk a batter all night. He threw one hundred and three pitches, seventy three for strikes. He was
efficient. He was in command all nine innings. Meanwhile, the Dodgers offense gave Gavin Stone more than enough run support. In the first show, hey O Toddy a leadoff home run, He's twenty fifth of the season, RBI number sixty one of the Dodgers had a one nothing lead, and then in the third the Dodgers loaded the bases Nobody out tay Oscar Hernandez a sack fly scoring keyk Hernandez Dodgers eight two to nothing lead. The Dodgers next batter,
Freddy Freeman one hand zero to Freddy Freeman. Barnes off of third, O Tani off of first, Freddy stretch and the right hand is pitch and Freddy Banks won the right field. That's gonna go to the wall, gonna bounce off the track, hit the wall, Barnes will score. They're gonna wave vot Tani around. He touches third, coming to the plate, there'll be no play there. He slides in safely and Freddie Freeman with a one out, two run double and the Dodgers lead at Ford to nothing. Two run
double for Freddy is twenty second of the season. RBI is forty nine and fifty Dodgers. A four nothing lead for Gavin Stone Well, for what he was doing on the mount, a four nothing lead was all he needed. Shut out ninety three pitches over eight innings. He went back out in the ninth inning to finish off what he started. They all won to Luis Robert with fam leading at first. Here it is swings hits a ground ball toward
them middle Lux has it he'll throw the first trendy scratchy got it. It's a complete game shutout for Gavin Stone, the very first of his major league career. He scatters four hits in the ball game. An absolutely wonderful performance by Gavin Stone, his best as a big leaguer, nine and two,
his w record. Gavin Stone the first Dodger pitcher to throw a complete game shutout since Walker Bueller in twenty twenty two, the first Dodger rookie to throw a complete game shutout since Yan Jin Ree you did it back in twenty thirteen. Dodgers get the three games sweep in Chicago. Now twenty games over five
hundred. After a day off yesterday, They're in San Francisco tonight to take on the hated Giants, landing knack on the mound in the series opener with more, Let's head out to Oracle Park the Gavin Motors broadcast booth as we say hello to Rick Monday and Nelly. Thank you, Tim. I'm crashing the road trip party here in San Francisco. Last time the Dodgers are going to be here at Oracle Park here in the twenty twenty four season. Mall,
this doesn't sound right. I mean here we are towards the end of June, and as you mentioned, this is the last one up here. This series. It went well too fans. Of course, the new schedule we see every team, but that obviously changes what we have been accustomed to for so many many years, going to and especially against the division teams, going there three different times, and they also come into your ballpark three different times. But for the Giants it might be a good thing because the Dodgers
this year are five and one against the Giants. And if you go back, the Dodgers have won fourteen to the last eighteen played in this ballpark. So San Francisco said, hey, good deal, that's it. It played this series. You guys don't come back. You know. It's kind of wildly the twenty twenty one season doesn't seem like that long ago, but it's forever ago. With the trajectory these two organizations currently appear to be on.
Like the Giants are sort of fludging right now, the twelve games back of the Dodgers in the Division, but there's three games back at the final wildcard spot, but still and still with plenty of big name pitchers on the injured list right now. So it's not like this team, we're not throwing dirt on the Giants by any stretch. The point I'm getting at here is, obviously this is a big series Dodgers Giants anytime these two lace up against each
other across the field. But for the Dodgers, like it's a chance to sort of kind of sweep the leg on San Francisco and keep them for building in a momentum here that summer. And I think Steven it's a point well taken because if you look at the injured list, I mean, they have five starting pitchers, they being the Giants on the injured list itself, and
some of them are very high profile pictures on top of it. That being said, I think if you looked at the schedule, the Dodgers had to be able to pencil in this should be a road trip where you're playing the Chicago White Sox they swept that series, and now you're playing the Giants, and yes, with the injured list, they've lost six of the last ten. They're thirty nine and forty three, and on and on and on. Right, this is a road trip where you figure, well, five out
of six at least in the wind calm. Yeah, this is part of the schedule where on paper you're like, Okay, the Dodgers should feast here, and they have up to this point. They've won nine of the last twelve against the Royals, Colorado, split the Freeway series against Anaheim and the White Sox, and then now this series against San Francisco. So trying to keep that going. And we will see if sho hey Otani can keep his streak going. Because this ten ten game tear that he's been on, MOO.
I think everybody in the baseball world is sort of at a loss because at this point, what can you say that hasn't been said about this? This is the other part too, that kind of gets lost in the transition. Yes, ten consecutive games, he's knocked in a run. You've always been in the leadoff spot with the absence of Mookie Betscher that fractured hand, for nine games as the leadoff hitter. How is as he done? He's hit four twenty four as the leadoff hitter. He's fourteen for thirty threes.
He's scored twelve runs, six home runs, fifteen RBIs, three doubles. That's in the nine games as a leadoff hitter. And the other part too, is since he's red hot and hits home runs, it may be an extra bat that he gets hitting first in that lineup versus maybe a little farther down. All I'm saying. All I'm saying is right now that the wind is blowing out toward McCovey cove. That's all I'm saying. See a splash hit for Otani to push this streak to eleven. Already set a Dodgers' franchise
record with the RBI streak. This note from the MLB Network Research team on the heels of face in the White Sox, Wally Moses of the nineteen forty five pill Holes the only player to record an RBI in ten straight games out of the leadoff spot. Specifically that since RBI became an official stat back in nineteen twenty. So you mentioned this will be the tenth game since replacing Mooki a topy order for the Dodgers. So chance for more history was show Hey
o Tani, Tim Kates. All right, thank you, Nellies, we count you down to first pitch. Dodger fans, get your game to a meal on at Shaky's Pizza parlor order. You're Shaky's Pizza, Chicken and Bojo's right now at Shaky's dot Com. Counting down to first pitch, Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck. Coming up. We'll hear from the Dodger manager Dave Robbers. We'll check in what David Vantage said. We'll dive deeper into this pitching
match up. But up next your Otani rewind An. We'll hear from Kirston Watson from sports and at LA lead you up to first pitch from San Francisco Dodgers Giants, first pitch of seven to fifteen. Thanks for being with us. I'm Tim Kays's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network is Lorono Casino, Dodgers on Dodgers on deck, y'all on the official home of LA Dodgers Baseball. He's the Dodgers and Giants Slanting neck Logan Web pitching matchup. First pitch coming up
at seven to fifteen. This is the Otani Rewhy. There's the wine that kick, the payoff pitch slung on and well hit to right field. This ball's back. It has got a home run for the second night in a row, a leadoff home run and Shoh Otane has just set a Dodger franchise record with RBIs in ten straight games in the history of the Dodger franchise That's
never been done until tonight. It's one nothing Dodgers on an Otani home run, his twenty fifth National League leading, twenty fifth home runn of the season for Otani, his fifth in the life six games he sets to Dodgers franchise record for ten straight games with an RBI. Otani goes one for two, walk twice on Wednesdays, Dodgers winning Chicago and ibotting three twenty two on this
season, which is best in all of baseball. The Otani rewind brought to you by eto ins Oi Oa, Japan's number one green tea, the tea that show Hey Otani drinks himself and loves available at your local Diso stores, Amazon, Etoin dot Com. That's it, oh e n dot Com. This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson. Hey. Kirston now joins us from San Francisco before the start of this three games series and Kirrison. The Dodgers coming off a three game sweep of the White Sox, coming off a game
in which Gavin Stone was really good. More on that than a minute, but a game in which Shoeyotani saw his life maybe flash before his eyes. Yeah, I think he did. And you know who saved his life Hobby the Ball Boys slash Cliphouse Attendant slash Hero Show Heyo Tani. It was I'm sure you've seen it now. It was a viral moment, the way in which fal ball just looked like it kind of shot into the dugout, Javier Calm cool collect it, put his hands out, grabbed the ball, saved
seven hundred million dollars. You know, just a hero is what we call him. So of course, you know, whenever Show Hero Tani's involved, there's typically a car that's involved. Is he gonna get a Porsche? Is he gonna you know, what's gonna be next for a Hobby. So we got to talk to him today and he was laughing. He was like, no Porsche, no toy Porsche, just you know, enjoying the viral moment, getting to laugh about it. Even show Hey and a bunch of the
guys were literally like filming him being interviewed by the media. It was quite the scene. So he's definitely having a lot of fun with it. But he was like, honestly, I saw the ball, it was coming and I knew he needed to catch it, and he did just that. So even Dave Roberts was using like we definitely got to give him. You know, I don't know contract extension. Hobby's not going anywhere. It's what that means. He is a hero of show Hao Tani. He is a hero
amongst all of us. And now I think he already was a living legend, but he's officially a living legend now, no doubt about it. Curi's is brought to you by Cars for Kids, the easiest way to get rid of your old car. Donate today, your car could be picked up tomorrow. Don'tate now a carsfrokids dot Org. That's cars with the kid you mentioned, Gavin Stone. I mean, what a performance on Wednesday night, a complete game, shutout. He seemed like he was in complete control, had
the command, He was efficient. He owned that game on Wednesday night. He did. And you know what, I think, just what you just mentioned there, having complete control of everything, and he was so efficient, and he even talked about just he said that was something getting ahead in the count and allowing that so by the time he got through the eighth inning, knowing that his pitch count was in a really good spot, he was like he wanted to go back out there for the ninth and so to have Dave
Roberts trust, he said, that meant the world to him. He said, honestly, in the moment, he kind of like blacked out, like he realized he had achieved a complete game and he did it, but he kind of was just like, what just happened? And then he was able to get back to the hotel. The team didn't actually travel to sam And Cisco until yesterday, so he got to go back and kind of just relax and talk to his family, he spent some time with his girlfriend and just
get to celebrate that moment. So he said it was really special. He was just I was laughing with him. I was like, can you believe
that? You know, you're still very young in your big Ley career, but you've already achieved this, And he was like, you know what, it was unforgettable and it's something that it's a true testament to him of the hard work he put in this offseason and you know, you hit on something really important there about he had control of everything, and he said that's been the biggest key to him this year, is having control of his complete pitch
mix, and that outing he was very slighter heavy, but it was because he had a really good feel for it as a part of the game plan. So for him to be in that space where he just knows that he could be effective with his entire pitch mix, he said, that's what's been the key for him this year. So I know we don't get to say in pictures when it comes to the All Star Game, but I want so badly to see him as an All Star this year, and I think he
is so incredibly deserving. So this for everyone listening, let us let's get him there. Players, if you hear this, let's get him there, you know, get him to the All Star Game. Absolutely, Kirsten, we appreciate it. We'll check it with you after the game. Still to come here on Marongo Casino, Dodgers on deck. Will die deeper into this pitching matchup. David Vasego's high and tight. We'll get you an injury report though, and we'll hear from the manager Dave Roberts when we come back.
Lead you up to first pitch, from San Francisco Dodgers and Giants. I'm Tim Katson. This is Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network. This is Morongo Casino Dodgers Hunting on your home for LA Dodgers Baseball. Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck continues on this Friday night as we lead you up to Dodgers and Giants Marongo Casino Resort and Spa, a grand slam for good times. First pitch from Oracle Park coming up at seven fifteen. This is the LA Dodgers Injury Report,
presented by UCLA Healthy Official Medical Partner the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mooie Bets on the IO with the fractured hand, Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the IEL at the strained rotator cuff, Walker Bueller on the I L with the right hip. Store is Michael Grobe on the IL, Ryan Brazier on the Al Clayton Kershaw, Max Mounsie, Bruce, Dar Graderoal Joe Kelly, Tony Gonson. The list goes on. Dustin May on the sixty day IL recovering from arm injuries.
All right, let's head back out to Oracle Park and check you with the Dodger Skipper. Any questions for damn Dave? Can you just describe Dave? Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with Dave Roberts? So, Dave, have you guys offered Hobby in a new contract for saving the life of Show Hey, Tani, Yeah, he needs an extension, a
raise. I was obviously right next to him, but I didn't appreciate how close it was, you know, going towards Show Hey, and what a great play it was so very quick reaction from Hovey and very grateful well with this team and just looking at the schedule right now, it's kind of the easier I guess, the slower pace time. How valuable is it that with just keeping armshell, been keeping guys healthy and really taking advantage of this stretch
right here. You know, we've done a good job of, you know, getting through a longer stretch, have some off days now, I think looking kind of where we're at right now, the playing time, workload, with the position players good, the starters in a good spot, and the bullpen guys I think are in a great spot. So the one guy that you know we haven't gone to in the last five or six days is Yarbs, So I'd love to find an opportunity to get him back involved with Landon
today. What are you hoping to see from him? Just continue to do what he's been doing for for me. The messaging for land In is go as hard as you can for as long as you can be aggressive, Phillip the strike zone, And every time we've called on him in this role, he's done it. So it's good for him to get a little bit of
runway, which he really hasn't had with us up until now. Did you see, like I guess with French Ryan Yarro, could you see a piggyback situation for him today or you kind of have to just see how it plays out, see how it plays out, But it's certainly, you know, a way we could go, given the fact that my trust with Yarbs being left handed versus the right hander. So we'll see how the game plays out. But that'd be nice. The guy who looks very much like Max Months,
he hanging around here, what's he doing here? So he's at a point now where he's swinging the bat, getting some flips tea and so it's just a way for our hitting guys to put some eyes on them. We just feel that he's far enough along where it warrants coming on the road, because typically guys on the IL don't travel with us. But in this particular case, it's three days and to get our hitting guys to put some eyes on them, we felt this was the right thing to do. All right,
there's Dave Roberts down of the doug out to buy Service Titan. Dave Roberts is a Titan in his own right, and he's going to plan before his team hits the field. You need one for your growing contracting business too. Let Service Titan help you implement it. Learn more at service Titan dot com. Let me continue here on Dodgers on Deck, we'll check in with the David vase lejaup to first pitch from San Francisco on this Friday night Dodgers
and Giants of Tim Kats's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network. This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck on your home for the Blue all season long. It's the Dodgers and Giants start up a three game set in San Francisco, landing neck on the mount. First pitch coming up at seven to fifteen. Dodger fans and a handsher listening experience by downloading the iHeartRadio app and listening in HD. It's all powered by Lacare Health Plans serving all Angelinos Lacare dot Org. Joining
Tim kits on Dodgers on Deck, accept everybody for who they are. This is Dodger insider David Basse. All right, David Max Munsey. We just heard Dave Roberts briefly say he's with the team in San Francisco and it sounds like he's progressing. Yeah, I have a photo evidence of Max Munsey here
at Oracle Park. And thankfully for the Giant's sake, I guess, and unfortunately for the Dodgers, Max Munsey is not in the starting lineup and is not eligible to come off the injured list until the day before the last game of the All Star Break. But I did talk to Max Munsey. He told me he did start swinging earlier this week, and he did take swings
today inside in the Dodgers visiting batting cage. And if you go back to the last homestand Tim, if you remember I reported, Max Munsey told me once he starts swinging, it will be two weeks until he returns, so he's not eligible to return until July fourteenth, which is the day of the dodge last game before the All Star Break. So if he does not have a setback, there's a very good chance he will be back in the Dodgers starting lineup the first game after the All Star Break, which will be against
the Boston Red Sox at Dodger Stadium. Certainly great news David Landon Knack gets to start tonight. Landon Nac just like Gavin Stone, just kind of behind him as far as development. But Landon as a guy who's quickly given this Dodger team really good audience. He really has, and he's a pitcher, Tim, He's not a guy that's going to overpower any hitters. And I was talking to Mark Pryorn Chicago, and he said, Gavin Stone, Bobby Miller, Landon Nack all great kids and are very coachable, but all very
different in their style. And Landon Nack is a very confident young man. I'm not sure if he realized this. Tim and his major league debut, he showed up in a Rolls Royce, So he's got swag and he is up for this challenge. His first taste of the Dodgers Giants, right ivalry.
Yeah, very excited. Yeah, I've always kind of growing up, you always kind of hear about the Dodgers and Giants rivalry that they've always had and kind of just how far that goes back, and so, yeah, getting to kind of get out there and pitch in enemy territory in San Francisco and kind of getting to experience the energy from those fans as they get fired up to play us. Yeah, no, I can't wait. That's going to be an awesome experience. The landed nac did not come in as flashy
as he did for his major league debut in that rolls Royce. He was just on the team bus today on the way to Oracle Park. David is driven by the Ford F Series, America's best selling truck for forty seven years and counting. Ford gives you freedom a choice gas hybrid electric, head of your Southern California Ford Dealers, and find yours Ford F Series built tough Will
Smith. David sort of been a slump right now two for his last thirty seven tim and that's the reason why Dave Roberts gave Will Smith the day off the final game at at guaranteed rate field against the White Sox because, as you know, a catcher does not have a lot of time to worry about himself his swing to get back on track. But because he was able to get Wednesday off, he worked with Aaron Bates, the one of the Dodgers hitting coaches, and what Bates told me earlier today was don't be so tense
in the shoulders before you start swinging. He wants some tension when you swing. You need that, but not pre pitch, and that's something to look for. Less tension in Smith's shoulders tonight as he is waiting for the pitch. David, great stuff. Looking forward to your conversation with Javier Herrera, Dodger bat boy now viral hero coming up in about fifteen minutes. Dodger fans, you're not gonna want to miss that coming up next door here on Dodgers
on Deck will dive deeper into this pitching matchup. But next your Dodgers' magical moment for leading up to Dodgers and Giants from Oracle Park in San Francisco, first pitch of seven to fifteen. I'm Tim Kasi's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network as we were saying, yes, is Marongo Casino Dodgers Ante on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball. Baseball. Lady Dodgers and Giants on this Friday night from San Francisco, landing NAC Logan Webb of the pitching matchup will dive deeper into the numbers coming up in just a little bit. Dodger fans, let your future start at a California community college. Financial aid is available to help you in tuition, books, and sometimes even the rent. It's time to take that next big step
in your life. Classes can fill up quickly so enrolled today and I can go to college dot com And now joined by David bas saying, here's La Dodgers broadcaster and World Series champion Dodger Rick Monday. Rick, what a beautiful day by the bay. It feels like summer here at Oracle Park. Yeah, you better feel like summer, because I have to ask you a question that Stephen Nelson and I asked you a few minutes ago when he first walked
into the pooth and you were wearing a nice golf shirt. There's no question about that. You know it is going to cool off here later on. Historically it does cool off here at night. Did you bring us a sweater or a jacket or anything else. I've got good news and bad news. Okay. The good news is, yes, I packed a nice zip up three quarters zip up. That's wonderful. The bad news is, and my excitement to get to the ballpark, I left it in the hotel room.
Oops. I might we might have to, you know, heat with bodies here, Rick, I might have to come up to the booth. I would suggest that you get a lot of napkins insulate yourself. Oh man, hey, Rick, Speaking of Stephen Nelson, we were marveling at the fact that the Giants have not been playing well. Their record reflects it, but they're only three games back of the second wildcard or the final wildcard spot.
Yeah, you know what that means, don't you. There's a lot of ball clubs other than those leading the divisions that are not playing particularly well. And for San Francisco, I mean, in their defense, they have had a rash of injuries really since the month of May. And you could also make the argument something will probably talk about during the ballgame. You can make
the argument and look at them right now. They have a pretty good five man rotation on the injured list at the present time, headed up by Blake Snell just to begin with, and there's Robbie Ray. You look at Alex Cobb, There's Kyle Harrison, and then and Win is also on that list. So yeah, they've had some guys that are injured. They just get Lamont Way Junior back in the lineup tonight. He had missed close to thirty
games because of a hamstring. They've had a lot of injuries. Landon Knack was on the pregame show before Wednesday's game Rick and he said he was looking forward to being part of this Dodger Giant rivalry. Do you enjoy watching him pitch because he does have four pitches and he doesn't overpower hitters. I think looking at him, you forget what the spin rate is and you start to look at the number of outs that he gets, and I think that's the
most important. Oh, spin rate is nice. It's like putting it up in bright lights. Oh, the spin rate. The spin rate. I'd rather see the number of outs. Yeah, and how he garners those outs and moves the ball around, changes speeds, and you're talking about it on the pregame show. You have a special look at your pregame second today. Right last game in Chicago Wednesday night, there was a foul ball off the bat of keyk Hernandez that was a rocket inside the Dodger dugout. And Javier
Herrera is going to join us at six forty five tonight. Rick and the Dodgers have some of their guys, their their clubhouse guys traveling on this road trip. So, yeah, it was a nice save. And he's not even a pitcher. Yeah. All Otani told him was thank you. Many people out there wondering if Otani is going to pull up a Porsche like you did for Joe Kelly. Well, for Kelly was a number, and with this one on your pregame, guess it was like maybe maybe a catch away
from having dinner through a straw for about a week or ten days. No doubt, you know what that's like, and you also know what it's like to be doing something that Otani has done. Coming into tonight, it's really something. I mean, ten consecutive games with a run batted end. It does not come that easily. And one of the things I asked Dwayne McDonald, who's like, he's like referencing the who's who in baseball and what happened,
and he can find things on the computer. I have no idea how he finds it as rapidly as he does, but experiencing a great number of years ago, ten consecutive games, and I said, hey, I just want to check my memory. Was it ten? Was it eleven? And confirmed, yeah, it was ten, and it was all done on a road trip and ten for you, yeah, ten for me, And the tenth game was on a Grand Slam And I happen to remember who it was and told Dwayne that and he verified it wasn't a bad memory that I had.
Yeah, it actually took place. That was when Rick Monday was playing for the Oakland Athletics, or were he's still in Kansas City. That would have been where the Oaklands. Yeah. Yeah, ten straight games with an army. I know I'm good because we're doing this in the booth and as I'm saying this, Dwayne is nodding affirmative, so I know that I'm at
least on friendly territory. But I always think it's interesting how players like yourself still remember things like that, or pictures that you did well against and picture you didn't do well against well, and more so on those that we did well against, because the other ones. It's like life. It's like pain. You know. Fortunately, we're able to kind of remove ourselves from the memory of pain. We know was painful, whatever it was, but we
could kind of remove ourselves. It's the same way if you look at the pictures, you know, darn well who you had difficulty in trying to hit during your career, and you're trying to stay away from that, stay at a positive end of it. But at the same time, you can learn a great deal by if you categorize the pictures that you hit well against and those that you did not hit well against at all? Do they follow the same category? And by that, I'm talking about fastball, breaking ball,
off speed pitch. How did they How did they fare one versus the other? Why was one versus the other? Interesting? I'll have to look back at your career. It's straight jacking material, is what it is. I feel like Rick blocks out this segment every day of his life. Oh you're catching on. It's only taking how many years? We'll leave it right there, Rick quick Learner. Oh yeah, that's the love language of Rick Monday. Send it. We'll send it back to you in the studio. Tim,
all right, thanks a lot, David. Dodgers Baseball is brought to you by Speedy Cash, official sponsor of every LA Weekend. Find out more at speedy Cash dot com. No, not Freddie Freeman or show Heyo Tani, not even Gavin Lux. I am with the bat boy and also the most famous clubhouse attendant in Major League Baseball, the one and only Javier Herrera, the man that saved show Heo Tani's life in Chicago. Thanks
a lot for the time. I know you're not comfortable with the attention, but we're happy to have you here on Dodgers Radio right on Dave, Thanks thanks for having me. Dude, How has your life changed since that last game in Chicago? Not much, to be honest, I mean it's not to me. It's not a big deal. It's you know, he's another game and then that's it. We're here in San Francisco, gonna play all right. So the dugout at guaranteed rate field, very dangerous angle there,
so you had to be on your toes. Can you take us through what you saw and what Otani told you after you saved his life. So, I mean, it's pretty close by. It's what twenty feet maybe twenty five feet from home plate to the dugout, So I had to keep my eyes wide open, be be aware of anything. So I think the first the first game, Crochet was pitching. He was doing hard, and he stood behind me saying like, oh, I don't want to He didn't say anything, but I knew he didn't want to get hit. But I did tell
him like, don't worry, I'll protect you. I got your back. And then game three in Chicago, I caught that line drive and the night when I caught it, he turned around. I turned around and gave him knuckles and I told him I told you I got you, and then he was happy about that. Man, it was so smooth too. You didn't make a big deal about it. You caught it and you handed it to the authenticator. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it was a foul ball. I mean, the game's still going nothing really, no one got hurt.
That was the best part. I did my job, all right. So after that, we saw each other after the game. By the time we saw each other, things kind of got went viral. How many texts did you get from around the league, from former Dodgers current Dodgers about how it went viral? I got a good amount of texts from family friends, even people that I don't even know, to be honest, but they're not saved in my contexts. But David Pribace did reach out, DP J. T.
Turner, Justin Turner reached out. Catboy reached out, you know, just saying good hands, like, you know, saying that I saved I saved Show his life. But I think he probably you know, I think he probably would have avoided a little bit. But you know, I did my thing. Yeah you did. Javier Herrera is our guest. He is the bat Boy clubhouse attendant that protected sho hal Tani's face from being smashed in by a key k Hernandez spou ball. Did KEI k realize what happened when
he came back to the dugout, I don't think so. I don't think anyone realized what happened. I didn't know what I mean. I just caught the ball, that's it. But until after the fact I saw that video, it was like, oh man, maybe I think I did say it was for something like that. So everybody's asking now. I don't know if it's a joke or if they're being serious. That Otani owes you a Porsche feels like Otani owes everybody a Porsche. But has there been any talk of
a thank you? Oh no, Yeah, he did say thank you right away after I caught the ball. He said thank you. Give him knuckles. That was fine. That's fine enough for me. If he's gonna give me a porch out. I mean gladly accept it. Don't get me wrong, but you know it's it's he's everyone's safe. No one got hurt. That's the best part. All in the day's work, right, right, that's right. Dave. Can you give us some background on how you have those great monos, because if I'm standing in front of Otani, uh,
the Dodger season is over, basically. But how do you have those type of hands and quick like reactions. It's just it's a gift. Really. You know, did you play baseball? Oh? Yeah, I played baseball. It was five years old. So I mean, yeah, I keep my on the ball, that's it. I mean the ball's gonna hit me also, so I had to protect it. Yeah, protect myself first. But yeah, I mean I caught that ball. I saw it. I just knew. I just knew I was gonna catch it. What's the highest
level of baseball you played? Oh? High school? High school baseball, that's it. And what position? Short stop? Oh? You gotta have good hands at shortstop. That's what makes sense. All right. Well, how is the hand feeling right now? Oh that's great. I'm ready to catch more. Really yeah, no, man, Desert, you're not going on the iol No, not at all. All right, No, no, no, thanks a lot for stopping by. Appreciate it, and uh, man, I'm happy for you. You're a great guy. Appreciate that
you deserve all the attention and celebration that you're getting. All Right, thanks. They appreciate that. All right. There he is the man, Javier Herrera, he saved show hail Tani's beautiful face. And some people say, save the Dodgers season. All right. From Javier Herrera, the Superman bat boy to Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehman. Danny, you were right there first hand account of Hobby saving Otani's face and the Dodger season. Yeah, I don't. I mean, this is way too big of a deal already.
I don't know what this is. This is incredible. Oh you say that now because you weren't the one that saved him. I mean, we got out of the way. Hobby just it happened to hit him right in the chest. Watch it. Watch the replay. It's incredible. All right. So all right, so we're in the dugout. Hobby's down the way. We just finished talking to him, Danny, Is it over exaggeration that he did save Otani's life? Is that what he said? Well, he did
not say it. That's what the people on the streets are saying that he say. He said, Hey, it was no big deal. Otani said thank you to him. But you know, just the way he played it in the dugout in Chicago. He's playing it that way now. Cool. Yeah, he's playing it cool. It's incredible. Yeah, I guess he saved him. He's right in front of him and he caught it. I jumped out of the way because I didn't trust him to catch it. That's what we're used to. And uh, it's a I don't know. I
don't even know what to say about it. You and will Ireton down the steps while Hobby just stood there and like, I don't know, look like Miguel Rojas in the dugout. It was a nice play. I don't know it was. It was good. It was his best played by far. He stole the base off of Barden in Denver a couple of years back, which is incredible too. So he's got a couple of things on his resume. All joking aside. Is their resentment inside the clubhouse or is there celebration
of Hobby Herrera? Mostly celebration. But we'll see how far it goes. This is this is already getting a little bit too much for him. So you're saying those that are calling for Otani to buy him a new Porsche a little too much? Is he calling for that? And it probably started with Hobby on it. But yeah, that might be a little much, but well he has picked out the color Hobby. Yeah, Jose, this Guyana, because I was behind him, I didn't think he could catch it,
and I jumped. Yeah, where was this Guyana? Was he practicing? His putt was hiding none of the bench. Hey, can you explain to all of us how dangerous it can be in the dugout with some of these foul balls and the positioning of some of these dugouts. Yeah, some of them are super close, like Chicago's close, obviously, but it's just the opening where Hobby stands. So everybody else is smart enough to get out of the way, but Hobby's got to be up there in the front line.
So you feel like these five minutes of fame are going to be going quickly as Chico's five minutes of fame in twenty twenty. Yeah, they both stretched him out pretty good. So well this is I don't I don't have any inkling. This is gonna stop any anytime soon. So all right, Danny, before I let you go, do you feel like you are indebted to Hovey Herrera? No, not at all. Never On other things maybe, but not not this one. Hey, thanks a lot for the time.
Love being in the sun in San Francisco. All right, thanks Davy. There he is Danny Leeman, Dodgers bench coach, indebted to Hovey Herrera as much as Show Hey Otani. We'll send it back to you in the studio. Tim, all right, thanks a lot. DV does feel like he did save show Ayotani's life, no doubt about that. Logan a web on the mound for the Giants six and six, three to sixteen ERA, Twenty seven year old right hander in his sixth season already in the big Leagues, making his eighteen start last time out six innings, four runs, nine hits and a loss to the Cardinals. He has got at least six innings in nine of his last starts. Third time facing the Dodgers this season,
he's one and one. Dodgers roughed him up for five runs and three and two third innings back in April at Dodgers Stadium, then the last month at Oracle Park, he returned the favor with six shutout innings and a win overall. Logan Webb fourteen career starts, four and six with a four to ZHO five ERA against the Dodgers, landing knack on the mound for the Dodgers
tonight, one and one with a two to ten ERA. Twenty six year old right hand or second round pick at the Dodgers in twenty twenty in TRIPAA. This season, three and two with a three fifty four ERA in ten appearances, ninth starts in Oklahoma City, making his sixth start here in the Big leagues for the Dodgers. He has not given up more than two runs in any of his five starts. Now last time out really good, five shutout innings, two hits, two strikeouts, and had no decision against the
Angels last weekend. Tonight his first ever meeting against the Dodgers. So it's Landon Nack being introduced to this Dodgers Giants rivalry. TC. Yeah, a little later start here at Oracle Park. It's a three game set over the weekend. We got game scheduled at all different times in all three days. Tonight at seven fifteen local here by the Bay. All right, Mcrick Monday. Landonak his second start in his third stint, six start overall as a big leaguer, And we've talked about this before. I want to talk about it again. How can you not love and appreciate what this kid has done this year because every time he's been sent back down
it isn't his fault. It's not because he's not throwing up zeros. That's exactly what he's doing. It's because of the forty man roster crunch or options on the table, or this, that and the other. And every time he goes back down, he takes care of work in Oklahoma City. Then he comes back up and puts more zeros up for the big league club. Oh, he's pretty good. Here's the deal. I mean pretty good by the eye test, pretty good. Then by the numbers you look at it
and say very good. From this standpoint, he has not allowed more than two runs in any of his five starts. He's making a six start tonight. In those fine starts, he's allowed just a one to seventy six batting average runners in scoring position. It's less than one hundred that he's given up. So he has really done a lot of different things. I think he kind of falls in the same category, maybe a little bit more giddy up
on the fast ball than what we saw with Gavin Stone. Gavin Stone does not throw the ball one hundred miles an hour, but a complete game shutout. And that was the final game in Chicago, and that's the first Dodger since April of twenty twenty two. Walker Bueller against Arizona had a complete game shutout. And again, the spin rate is not real high, but the number of bounts and when he gets him. Both both Nac and was Stone in the same category. We're in agreement there. The radar gun is awesome
if you got it. The spinner rate numbers are awesome, if you got it. We care about zeros and that's what those guys are doing. And good on Gavin Stone. He earned that opportunity to finish that game the first time since you Jen review that we've seen that from a rookie, and good
on the coaching staff are allowing him to do that the other day. And now this Todgers' pitching staff is throwing what seventeen consecutive sclubs coming into consecutive and they only allowed runs to be scored in one inning in that three game series in Chicago. Granted, not the greatest team right now, the Chicago White Sox, but nonetheless they got the job done. And Boyd did they ever
get the job done? So Landon Nac will start opposite Logan Webb. Some of the Dodgers are very, very familiar with He's making his eighteenth turn of the Year's coming off a loss in Saint Louis. He's at five hundred and six and six on the year, and the Dodgers have gotten to him the last seven turns. Let's see if they can make it eight turns in a row that they've touched up Logan web First pitch from Oracle Park, Game one of the series. The Dodgers and the Giants approaching rapidly. All right,
thanks Nelly. Dodgers fifty one and thirty one to start the night, winners of four in a row. The Padres are already won in Boston, So the Dodgers now an eight game lead in the division going into play tonight. The Arizona Diamondbacks eleven and a half games back to San Francisco Giants twelve games back in the Division Colorado, Well, they're twenty three games back in the Western Division of the National League. First pitch is next, Dodgers and Giants
