And now your host former Wrongo Casino Dodgers on Tech Tam Case, Hi everybody, and welcome in two of Morongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Hope you're well on this Monday afternoon. It is hot here in southern California. You're Los Angeles Dodgers. Well, they've head to the Midwest. At forty eight and thirty one on the season, first place atop the NL West. Dodgers now on a six game road trip with the first stop in the South Side of
Chicago, three game interleague series against the White Sox. James Paxxton on the mound, first pitch coming up at five to ten. Between now and then, we got a lot to get to here on Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck, we got a hear from the manager Dave Roberts. Coming up. In about thirty minutes, David Vass goes one on one with former Dodger Jason Worth, who is now dabbling in horse racing and been very successful by the way.
Shortly we'll check in with Kirsten Watson and just a few minutes we'll send it out to the Gallpin Motors broadcast booth with Rick Monday and Tim neffert Well. Saturday at Dodgers Stadium, glass Now was really good and finally got some run support. Tyler Glass Now seven innings, allowed just two runs on two hits while striking out ten along the way, his six double digit strikeout game of this season. He went through a stretch remember in May, about five
games with virtually no run support. However, on Saturday night he got plenty of it, and it started in the third. But Gavin lux stay off pitch three two is swung on well, hit to right, going back onto the dellis to the track. He's at the wall. Let's go home round now, Gavin Lucks makes it won nothing Dodgers his second home run of the year, and the round tripper gets the Dodgers on the board. First solo
home run for the LuxI Dodgers the he won nothing lead. A few batters later, show Hey o Tany with a two run home run twenty third of this season. Dodgers up three to nothing, and they still weren't done.
Andy Pie has an RBI ground out swell and the ground will double and the Dodgers, with four runs in the third inning, take a four to nothing lead on the Angels in the fourth Dodgers of four to one when they attacked on more Will Smith, a bases loaded walk, Dodgers a five to one lead Freddie Freeman, then a sack fly RBI number forty six as the Dodgers took a six to one lead. Then the fifth Dodgers with some more offense. Gavin Lucks at it again, kicking the one too. That one has
slapped the left field. That ball is gonna get down for a hit, rounding Thurvis Rohies. He's gonna score a two out RBI base hit for Gavin Lucks and the Dodgers lead hit seven to one. Gavin Lucks the RBI single number nineteen on the season, Dodgers up seven to one. Lucks two for four, a home run, two ribies the Dodgers seven eight and nine hitters. They combined for six hits and scored five runs for the Dodgers. Dodgers go on and win the game seven to two on Saturday night. Glass now
his eighth win of this season. He lowers his er raed two eighty eight with the win. The Dodgers now forty eight and thirty one, an eight and a half game lead in the division. After a rare Sunday day off yesterday. They are in Chicago this afternoon for the start of a three game series against the White Sox. The Big Maple James Paxton on the mound and with more, let's head out to the Galvin Moners broadcast booth as we welcome in Rick Monday and Tim never guys, Thank you very much, Tim,
and here at guaranteed right field. Beautiful night in Chicago's been a warm day, should be a very pleasant evening here at the ballpark as the Dodgers meet the White Sox. Dodgers forty eight and thirty one first place in the National League West, the White Sox last place swell in Major League Baseball. They've got the worst record in the majors at twenty one and fifty eight. It'll be Garrett Crochet, who has been a bright spot in an otherwise dismal season
for the White Sox. Crochet six and six with a three two five ERA. The left hander will oppose Dodgers lefty James Paxton, who's having a great season seven to one and in ERA just over three and a half. Show Hey Otani the National League Player of the Week. He has been outstanding No question about that. I mean, his numbers are really incredible over the last week of four to fifty eight average, four home runs eleven RBIs. But when it comes to the White Sox, mall his numbers are even better than
that. Well, they're better than that, but a lot of players can also make claims on that end of it. How about shoe Hey Otani. Since Mookie Betts has gone down and a huge, huge loss for this Dodger ball club with the broken left hand, Otani in his seven games as a leadoff hitter is at three ninety three, four home runs, eleven runs batted in. As you mentioned coming off now is selected as the Nationalague Player of the Week. But if you look at the White Sox, I mean,
my goodness, you gave the record twenty one and fifty eight. They are on a pace. If you look at well, they're on a pastue to this or a hitters on a paste to this. Forty three and one nineteen to be the worst mark in franchise's history. They lost one hundred and six games in nineteen seventy. They thought that was a bad season. This has been a rugged win so far for the South Side of Chicago. You can shorten up the game with good pitching, because here's a number from the White
Sox when they trail after seven innx. So if you have the lead through seven, you're gonna win. Because the White Sox are all in forty three. Yeah, they've had difficulty. Meanwhile, the doctors have to take care of their own backyard, and that means it will a little bit different lineup, and that is going to be o Toanni's still going to be the designated hitter. They are going to be without the services tonight of Tiascar Hernandez.
Fernando's out for personal reasons. He'll return here tomorrow. Freddie Freeman's had a really good month of June three thirty three average, thirteen runs bad and then in five home runs. I think also is it with Hernette's out. And by the way, his family is fine, his wife and his children. It'll take care of that. Dave Roberts said, I know you were down there listening to him and they said, hey, look, this is just a family situation. So he'll return tomorrow. But in the meantime, Jason
Hayward is going to get the start in right field. Interesting from the standpoint, is it Hayward last year, add only twenty eight at bats against left handed pitching, and yet he'll be in there tonight and batter the nine spot. So the Dodgers over the last dozen seasons have the best interleague record in Major League Baseball, as they are one sixty four and ninety nine. Meantime, the White Sox have the worst interleague record in Major League Baseball over the
last dozen years at one eleven and one fifty seven. So if this isn't a tale of two cities in this ballgame, as far as the numbers are concerned, I don't know what is well, especially if you look at the numbers. They're last in hitting, their last in run score, they're twenty six in home runs. They are also twenty eighth in the earned run average, and they're twenty ninth down the list they've given up, well, not
the most runs in baseball, but they're twenty ninth on that list. So we're getting you ready for the first pitch on the South side of Chicago. It's the Dodgers and the White Sox game. James Paxton pitching for the Dodgers, Garrett Crochet going for the White Socks. Tim all right, as we count you down to first pitch. Dodger fans, get your game day meal on. It's Shaky's Pizza Parlor. What are your Shaky's Pizza, Chicken and Mojo's. Right now, it's Shaky's dot Com. Coming up here on Dodgers

We'll dive deeper into this pitching matchup. But up next, you're O Tawny Reewine and we'll check you in with Kerrisen Watson. Lead you up to first pitch on this hot Monday afternoon. It's Dodgers on the South Side of Chicago to take on the White Sox. First pitch coming
up at five ten. Thanks for being with us. I'm Tim Katsu's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network. It is Lorongo Casino Dodgers on Dodgers on Deck. Y'all on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball. Dodgers on the road again in Chicago's they started a three game inter league series with the White Sox. James Packson Carrett Crochet. The pitching matchup. First pitch coming up at five ten. This is the Otani three wide stretch, my polea shack that chill
leads at first. Now the two oh swung on it hammered where back in God he is a one man showed three nothing Dodgers. His second home run in as many days in his National League leading twenty third bomb. Oh what a shot four one hundred fifty nine feet and one hundred and fifteen and a half miles per hour off the bat. He no doubt or from Show Hey Otani on Saturday nine two run shot and the third is twenty third of this
season. He is now hitting a home run in three games. He has now scored runs in seven straight games while driving in a run in seven consecutive games. Show Hey Otani with the home run part of a seven to two Dodgers win over the Angels. The Otani rewind brought to you by eto In Oocha, Japan's number one green teef. He'll be a local diso stores, Amazon and Etoin dot com. That's it t o e N dot Com.
This is Kirston's Corner with Kirston Watson, Hey Kirson out joins us on the south side of Chicago's the Dodgers start this three game series against the White Socks, and something that sticks out right away Kirson no tay Oscar Hernandez in the line. But everything's okay. Yes, everything is okay with him. He and his wife and kids. They actually had to go to the Dominican so they were with the team yesterday when we traveled to Chicago. But Dave was
saying they're dealing with a family situation. He said, most importantly, he is healthy, his wife is healthy, the kids are all healthy. So they're expecting him to be back with the team soon. But he did need to go and be with his family the Dominican for something. So our thoughts are most definitely with the Hernanda's family at the moment, and so hopefully we'll see him back with the team pretty soon. Last time we had heard from
the Dodgers because the day off yesterday rare Sunday day off. On Saturday, Clayton kershaw I thrown a bullpen. It had a little bit of soreness. But now we know what's happening and what's the timetable, what's going on. Yeah, so like you mentioned on Saturday he threw his bullpen just kind of typical after his rehab start, but he only threw a handful of pitches and ended up getting an MRI yesterday, and Dave Roberts said that there was no
new issues, there's no damage. Everything looks good, but just dealing with some residual soreness. And Dave was saying that this is something and you have a player he's coming back from a major surgery, whether it's a shoulder surgery
like Clayton Kershaw or a Tommy John or some of the sorts. You know, you do kind of have to take him to account that there might be times when there's a little bit of an uptick in velocity and you're playing more, you know, as much as yes it was a game with the Quakes and it's single a and things like that, there's still adrenaline and things like that, and so sometimes that can just put a little extra pressure. So they're shutting Clayton down for this week. He's not going to be throwing the
ball. And then after that, once say the good thing, and I let me say first, after that, he is going to throw a couple of bullpens and then he can restart his rehab starts. But Dave was saying the good thing about kind of just where he's at right now, it's not going to necessarily impact his build up. Taking a week off from throwing the balls. We saw him and get through three innings. He's been progressing really
well and so that at least he should stay on track with that. Now it's just a matter of let's get through this soreness, get him back to feeling healthy so that then he's in a place where he could handle five days rest, six days rest. So right now, the most important thing is there's no new damage. There's no additional damage. The scans came back clear. Just getting him through this ornis which is expected, so you know it
is. It's unfortunate. He obviously was trending in a really good direction, but this is a minor setback that they were prepared for. They take into account that this could happen with this recovery from shoulder surgery. So hopefully Kate Clayton can kind of get back on track really soon. Let's hope, so fingers crossed you can come back and have about this team after the All Star break. Kirston, we appreciate it. You brought you by Cars for Kids,

So head back out to Chicago and check out with the Dodger Skipper. Questions for Dave, Dave? Can you just describe Dave? Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with Dave Roberts. He flew home to the Dominican for a personal reason. He's fine, Jen's fine, his kids are fine. So he went home and he'll be
back. The plan is from him to be back tomorrow. So we're gonna play a man short tonight. Got it. And then just when you look at kind of where the team at is right now, how good are you feeling? Is about what you've been seeing when now two days ago against Angels, especially with showing a te how he's got such a hot fat at the moment, I feel good. I think that we're playing fine baseball show Hayes obviously playing exceptional. I think the pitching has been very consistent offense sort of
in and out tonight. We've got a tough task tonight. Crochet is you know, we don't see I'm a lot in the National League, but he's one of the heavy, one of the better years in all of baseball, big stuff left hander, and so it's gonna be a good test for us tonight. But I like where where we're at with our pen. James is coming off with good one, so it should be a good ball game tonight and look to have a good series. All right. There's Dave Roberts down

It's all powered by Lacare Health Plans serving all Angelinos Lacare dot Org. Joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on Deck, I accept everybody for who they are. This is Dodger insider David Basse. All right, David Show. Hey, Otani is red hot home running three straight games. He's got a run driven in in seven straight games. He's doing everything right right now, yeah, he is right Now, he's very close to breaking a Dodger record streak as
far as scoring in seven straight games. If he scores tonight, that will be eight straight games. There's only one Dodger that has scored seven times or in seven straight games, and that was Rick Monday's old teammate, Reggie Smith, back in nineteen seventy eight. But look Otani's red hot. He's sitting three ninety three in his last seven games. His ops is over fourteen hundred, and the White Sox are not the team that is going to cool him
down if history says anything. Obviously, Garrett Crochet a very good pitcher, maybe the ace of the staff. But Otani last year against the White Sox in six games was eleven for twenty one with seven home runs. Tim, he hit seven home runs in his last six games last year against the White Sox, so I would, as Rick Monday likes to say, expect rockets red glare tonight from sho Hey Otani, David, these White Sox players. No, he didn't like that, Tim, Yeah, it was good.
Garrett Croche, you mentioned he's their ace, David, and you're hearing his name being brought up. As a possible trade scenario for the White Sox and getting some stuff in return. He's a former top fifteen pick out of Tennessee a couple of years ago. Well, how many of these White Sox players do you think are a trade target for the Dodgers. Well, obviously, Garrett Crochet is on the radar. He's on the radar for a lot of teams, and he's under team control for two more seasons, so it's not
a rental type of situation. But the White Sox need to find a way to get talent in this organization, and that's the reason why they are seriously considering trading guys like Garrett Crochet and also their center fielder Luis Robert, who I know a lot of Dodger fans are interested in, and from my understanding, the Dodgers are interested, but I don't see them overpaying or overextending for
a player that is hurt often. Is has struck out twenty five times in seventeen June games and is hitting under two hundred, and my understanding talking to evaluators around the league about Luis Robert, he picks and chooses when he wants to play, and that's not going to work with the Dodgers. So there's another guy too that is not going to cost as much, Tommy Fam,
who is one of the best playoff performers. He's on the White Sox, and certainly the White Sox decided to sign him in spring training with the intent if they were not in it, to trade him at the deadline, to get more talent into the organization as well. Crochean and Fams will look good in Dodging uniforms. David is driven by Ford F Series, America's best selling

Chris Taylor DV. This is a guy who hit rock bottom. It seems like he's maybe gotten over it. He's really playing well lately, right. He spoke to us over the weekend during the Freeway series, and I thought it was interesting that he mentioned that he did make
mechanical adjustments at the plate and they are starting to pay off. And he did admit to him that it's one thing to stick to the process. It's one thing to make adjustments. It's another thing to start to see results. And Rick Monday has been talking about that in the last week. He's seen a different Chris Taylor and he gave us a little inside on or Taylor gave us a little insight on what actually changed and he did make adjustments and hopefully
that continues tonight because he gets the start at second base. David, appreciate it. Great stuff. Looking forward to your conversation with Jason Worth coming up in about fifteen minutes. They traveled to Chicago and here we are on the South Side. It feels like Tuesday, not Monday. Well, I know you have a big celebration last night in Chicago, a night off, and then you know, three night games and we'll stay in and actually not fly to San Francisco until Thursday, the other off day, and it's going to be both spent
at thirty some thousand feet for the most part. So yeah, they come on, here's the deal. When you start to look at this road trip, what is going to be a good number as far as you know, the six games if you're looking, I mean, I'm looking at five in one trip here, Rick. That's exactly what I told someone earlier today, and they looked at me as well, how do you figure that? I said, Well, first of all, you're playing the White Sox. They're
thirty games out of the America League Central Division thirty is that all? For example, the Dodgers are playing game number eighty tonight, so you know we're almost at the halfway point. We'll be there tomorrow after the game. So if anybody says, hey, it's the early days, and know it's not the season, not early either. It's half over, no doubt, and we're just a month away. Just shy of a month away from the trade deadline and tonight's starter for the White Sox Garrett Crochet. His name has been
all over the trade rumors. Rick, Yeah, is this a preview of something to behold? And who knows what's going to happen. Dodgers have to figure out a way. Both teams, as a matter of fact, have to figure out a way to hit the good fastball, because both of them rely upon the fastball and they've had a good success with that so far. But for the White Sox, yeah, I would expect anything less than a
sweep would be disappointing in this. I mean, they're twenty one and fifty eight, they're thirteen and twenty five at home, they've lost twenty eight to the last thirty five. I think I've stated a pretty good case to say, hey, sweep should be at the top of the list. Rick, Maybe you can put into context just the dynamics here in Chicago when it comes to fandom Cubs, White Sox, because we have a similar dynamic in LA. But you played for the Cubs. How did the city view the White
Sox then? And how did they view them all? This? No, this is rivalry, This isn't preference. This is rivalry here. You're either north side or your south side. There is no Mason Dixie line. It's right between and depending upon households or anything else. It's a good natured kind of going back and forth. And right now it's kind of lopsided. But yeah, I remember being with the Cubs where you play an exhibition game during the season between the two and you figure out what's kind of going on.
So yeah, it was kind of the ying and yang of Chicago baseball. This new ballpark has a few different names over the years, but it's close to willball Park had a few names too. I was going to ask, most of which we cannot repeat. Oh, okay, see that's what I was leading up this way. Dynamite was too kind for it. Really you did? So? You did not like Kamiski Park? Who did? All? Right? I want I want to know? Okay, Yeah, and you do a lot of in depth research, so just just find out for
me, will you. Okay? Well do Rick? You always come up with something as far as history and this date in baseball when he got for us to just a few days ago. Unfortunately we lost Willy Mays. And if you go back, I found something early this morning. This was the date that the anniversary of Willie Mays making his professional baseball debut on this date nineteen fifty playing center field in Trenton the Giants farm team in Class B Interstate
League. Willie Mays was nineteen years of age. He went hitless in the game. However, in the eighty one games that he played after he signed, he hit three point fifty three in those eighty one games and then promoted to Triple A parent club, So he didn't waste any time at all getting promoted to Triple A. And this was the launching the date of a great
career of Willie Mays professionally. The great thing about Willy Mays, my son is only eight years old, but there's that great old time Willie Mays song and my son loves Willy Mays because of that song. So the way he played, the way he transcended the sport rick his legacy will live on forever. Someone showed me a photo today and asked me if I remembered it, and unfortunately I don't. It was Willie Mays with me on the right and
Reggie Jackson on the left. That's an incredible photo that I would love to see. Yeah, it's one of those photos that you look at and you say, my goodness, Yeah, send it to me. Maybe we could share with the people. Yeah, yeah, well you're a man of the people anyway. That's right, Rick, Anything else will be on civilized Yes, get out here, we'll send it back to you in the studio.

David, and now what will likely be ves a fielding insults from a Dodger player. It's an engagement of endearment. This is high
and tight. Well, we're joined right now by a World Series champion. And I knew him way before that. He was one of those special guys that you connect with in a clubhouse, and we certainly did in two thousand and four, in two thousand and five when he was playing for the Dodgers before he went on to an unbelievable Major league career to close out his fifteen seasons. And now he's part owner of the Belmont Stakes winner door Knock. That is the one and only Jason Worth. Jason, great to have you
on the show. Great to reconnect with you. Yeah, there, trazy it's been this long twenty years since those days, my my Dodger day has been good. Good to talk to you and getting back connected for uh, for a totally different reason. What can you tell us about door Knock? What makes this horse so special? To be an underdog of sorts at the Belmont Stakes? Going into the Bellmont, we felt really good about him.
He's kind of like his uh, his his dad. He's a he's a big, bad dude with a big with a bad attitude and uh, he shows up on game day, so he was he's uh, he's cool to be around. He's tough to train, which you know I probably wasn't the most coachable guy myself. So we got a lot in common. And and you know, he he's he's a gamer, and he's a he's a big horse. Uh, he's uh, he's cool, he's he's funny. If you get we go see see him a lot. We give him peppermints.
Uh you like he'll start like he'll start sucking on his tongue and like it's it's it's it's hysterical. But then in that like few thirty seconds of him him enjoying his peppermint, you kind of you can get in there and uh and love on him and and pat him. Will'll let you close. But as soon as that's over, he wants another peppermint. Then he turns back into a jerk. So he's a he's a he's an interesting guy. Would winning the Belmont Stakes compared to winning the World Series in wait? Maybe seeing
door knock go down the stretch? Does it feel like two outs in the ninth inning? Is there any parallels there? Definitely is. I mean I think, you know, for people that aren't familiar with the sport or or just know the sport from from the betting side, when you bet on a horse, you know, from on the ownership side, it's totally different. I mean, it's such a different experience. His horse becomes part of your
life. You know, you worry about it, you wake up in the morning, you check on it. You know, there's there's videos, there's there's reports. It becomes like, you know, you go to see it in the stables. It becomes like a family pet. I mean, this guy's he's got nicknames. You know, we bring the presents. It's like there's a whole lot of a whole different experience to owning these courses then then
then just betting on them or going to the track someday in Washington. So it creates, you know, creates a bond similar to when you're when you're playing then and when he goes and runs and you know, a rate like a triple Crown race. You know, like I mean, this is legendary stuff. So when you win, you feel the same emotions. I went
in at the highest level. I mean I would I would say I would put it right up there if if you know, winning the World Series of Philadelphia and then and then experiencing the parade in Philadelphia, which was which was incredible. I would say, you know, one in one a winning the Belmont would be would be you know, a close second. So it was a it's remarkable to experience it, and like I said, to do it with my family and my friends together, it just it makes for an incredible
experience. I can't, I can't. I can't even begin to tell you how special it is. That is so awesome. Jason Worth is our guest. Before I let you go, you mentioned seeing Paul Aduca at the Belmont Stakes and him embracing you. That was such a tight knit group. In two thousand and four with the Dodgers. Obviously, you guys did not go all the way, But of all the teams that you were part of, where does two thousand and four ranked as far as the bonds you had with
those teammates. Yeah, yeah, I mean, awesome team. You know, arguably that was Yeah, that was my rookie, rookie year. So it was an unbelievable start to you know, a pretty storybook career with with the way, you know, the way it went, with the you know, the the injuries experienced the following year and the troubles that we had to you know, get it diagnosed and and get it fixed, and then ultimately, you know, getting released by the team that you know, you know,
gave me the opportunity. It was. It's the the OH four team was was so close. You know, we we ran into a juggernaut with Saint Louis that year. They were they were hot and you know we were we were kind of a little short, but it was it was a great experience. The awesome year we had, you know, running down the Giants down the stretch, you know, Finn's hitting that big walk off Grand Slam at Dodger Stadium. I had that I had that long at bat to tie
the game and then Finns coming up and hitting the Grand Slam. I mean that that was that was That was a great Dodger moments. And to do it at Dodger Stadium at packed house as a rookie, he was. It was incredible. You know. Obviously had some some other big games there for other teams and and big moments, but always loved, always loved Dodger Stadium, and you know, playing in l A was was, you know, definitely special in being a Dodgers. You know, it's like it's it's it's
one of the top sports franchises in all sports. So it was I was honored to be a Dodger and then to experience all that and you know, had a great career and now here we are running and running triple ground races and winning the Belmonts. It's you know, never it never ends, right. You always had a vision, even when you were playing. You had the vision of winning a World Series championship, a vision of being one of
those premiere free agents, which you accomplished as well. And I'm sure you had this vision of at some point in time finding this outlet and door Knock winning the Belmont Stakes. He is really good and he's finally healthy.
This is his fourth full season in the big leagues, even though he missed all of twenty twenty two with Tommy John surgery. Last year, he was really good. This year, he's been very good despite the win loss record. He throws a fastball in the upper nineties, a cutter, and a slider. Making his seventeen start this season last time out, six innings, three runs, nine hits, eight strikeouts and a loss of the ash. He's faced the Dodgers twice, add the bullpen too relief appearances at Dodgers Stadium

seven and one. Garrett Croche for the White Sox at six and six and for packs that he comes off of very good outing when seven innings, gave up only one run in a win against Colorado last Monday makes his fourteenth start of the season. Guy, he's been good. You look at the last two starts to totally just two runs on four hints. That's over thirteen innings and he comes out of the out of the dugout really ready to go.
The last four games that James Paxton has taken the mound, he's not allowed a base hit in any of those four games in the first innings, so he's really kind of a stiming the offense, and so has the pitcher tonight for the Chicago White Sox, boy Garrett Crochet. What a season he's having. He's going to throw that fastball and he it really elevates it, and he's going to try and jam a lot of Dodger hitters. It converted short
reliever now has pitched more innings than he's ever pitched in any season. So he comes off a loss to the Houston Astros last Wednesday where he struck out eight. He's the American League leader in strikeouts and his second in the majors, behind only Tyler Gladsnow the part two is two, three and four spots and opposing lineups have hit just one sixty combined against him. So it's Paxton and Crochet the pitching matchup as the Dodgers meet the White Sox, game one
of a three game set coming up from Chicago. Tim all Right, Dodgers start the night with an eight and a half game lead in the NL West in front of the San Diego Padres. They're nine and a half games up on Arizona. They start the night eleven and a half games up against the San Francisco Giants, who have lost five in a row. The Dodgers, by the way, we'll be in San Francisco this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but coming up the start of a three game interleague series, Dodgers
