And now your host for Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Damn cays Well everybody, and welcome in to mo Ronggo Casino Dodgers on Deck. Hope you're enjoying this hot Saturday afternoon early evening here in southern California. The temperature is certainly rising here in Los Angeles. You're Los Angeles Dodgers forty seven and thirty one
on the season, first place atop the NL West. After dropping in the series opener to the Angels last night at extra innings, the Dodgers look to get back on track tonight and finished with a split with the Halos tonight. Tyler Glass now on the mound, first pitch coming up at seven to ten as the Dodgers. When there's city connected uniforms coming up. Over the next hour. Here on Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck, you will hear from Dodger
manager Dave Roberts, will dive deeper into this pitching matchup. David Vase goes one on one with Chris Taylor. You also hear from show Hey Otani will get you an injury report, your magical moment of the day, and it's just a few minutes, we'll check in with Rick Monday and Tim Neverte at the Gallvin Motors Broadcast booth. Well last night at the Ravine landon Neck was solid for five innings, but the Dodgers just didn't give him enough offense.
The young right hander, called up from TRIPAA, Oklahoma City, making his fifth start in the Big leagues this year. Five shutout innings. He scattered two hit, struck out two, walk to through seventy three pitches. Seemed to be going for the first couple of innings and got into a groove through five. The Dodgers' offense, meanwhile, took a couple of turns through the
lineup to get going. Finally, in the bottom half of the fifth inning with two outs, Austin Barnes with a flare to left base hit with two outs that brought up shoey Otani. Joey Otani doing a good job here in June. Over the course of his career. In June, he's a three thirty hitter and the one one swang I'm well hit the center. This spaws where back in god home run number twenty two, of course, show hey o'tani the National League lad in home runs and the Dodgers lead at two to
nothing, an absolutely majestic blast the center field and o'toni strikes again. Show hey o'tani with the home run. In the month of June. Since June sixteenth, he ranks second in baseball hitting five to twenty two. He's got five home runs and eleven RVII. That one home run number twenty two, four hundred and fifty five feet into center field to run home run, Dodgers on the board two to nothing, and that's the top tier play of the
game sponsored by Arco Quality, top tier gas for less. The lead though didn't last long. Landon Knack would leave the game after five and it's with the lead incomes Ryan Yarborough and he was a mess in the sixth inning. Hits the first battery he faces, then a base hit two batters later, hits another batter, then hits a third batter in the sixth thinning to bring in the first run for the Angels. It was a two to one Dodgers and then he gives up a RBI ground out to Mickey Moniak that tied the
game at two. Hit three batters, gave up two runs, gave up the lead. Dodgers and Angels were tied at two. They went to extra innings last night. The Angels in the top of the tenth with the free runner able to get Taylor Ward in with an RBI single score in a run. The Dodgers in the bottom half of the tenth inning had a runner at third base with one out. Kiky Hernandez struck out and then Gavin Lux struck out Tye and run ninety feet away and nothing he could do. Angels and
ten innings last night beat the Dodgers three to two. Luis Garcia against the winning relief Evan Phillips. Against the loss, the Angels improved to thirty and forty five. Dodgers fall to forty seven and thirty one. Tonight, Game two of this brief two game freeway series. Tyler Glass now on the mound, first pitch coming up at seven to ten and with more let's head out to the gallupin Motors broadcast both as we say hello to Rick Bunday and Tim
Neffert. Guys, Tim, thanks again, warm and clear night here at Dodgers Stadium. Beautiful evening for a baseball game. The Dodgers trying to get back in the win column and they'll do that behind Tyler Glasnow. Glass Now making his sixteenth start of the season for the Dodgers, and as far as glass Now is concerned, his record to start action tonight seven and five with a three ERA. Zach Pleisach makes his second big league start this year for
the Angels. The right hander is one to zero with a four to fifty earned run average. Last night show, Hey O'tani was a one man show, but he was the only guy who got anything done. The rest of the Dodger lineup was pretty much shut down. Otani was on base all four times, walks, each of the first two advanced, and the two run home runner of the fifth had a single in that eighth inning. But the
Dodgers again him. They've had difficulty if you look back the last number of years, in extra innings, and they lose it in ten last night by I scored a three to two just having difficulty in moving and advancing that runner and then picking them up from third. Shoho Tani woke up this morning leading Major League Baseball and batting average at three twenty two. He leads the National League in home runs with twenty two. He leads the National League in slugging
percentage and ops and also in run scored with sixty. He has been on fire lately and that's certainly something the Dodgers want to take advantage of tonight. Well, you miss a mookie bench, there's no if ens and butts, in no way of getting around it. But he looked at Otani now six
game hitting shrink where he's hit five twenty two. That's twelve hits and twenty three advants and in those twenty three at bats five home runs he's knocked in a love it at Dave Roberts is saying a little bit earlier, said hey, look, the other guys in the lineup behind him need to pick up the slack. And we are beginning to see more consistent hitting from the bottom third of the lineup, and hopefully that drink continues. Well. Smith back
in the lineup tonight. He did not start last night, Dodgers resting him a little bit gave Austin Barnes the opportunity to catch, so Smith back in the lineup in batting second right in front of Freddy Freeman. Smith breaking up the left handers at the top of the order. Yeah, breaking him up. And if we start to look at this lineup two with Rojas, Miguel Rojas at shortstime. He has really been I think a big contributor to the
rest of the defense in the infield. On top of it, and especially with the loss of Max Munsey, which yesterday put on the sixty day injured list. So it does look like Max is going to be back until maybe after the All Star break. So some you know, some doing that has to be taken care of Bigio again start at third base, he'll bat in the nine spot. And for Bigio, one of the issues has been, you look at the last three years is with two strikes, in particular,
taking a lot of cold strike threes. And we've seen the last couple of games. However, he's beginning to swing the bat, I think a little bit more freely. Just so news how to Dave Roberts press conference this afternoon regarding Clayton Kershaw, the Dodger left handed star, reporting some soreness in his left shoulder. So there is some thought that they're going to monitor them and perhaps and it's not a definite, but they might move his next rehab start
back a little bit. He was scheduled to pitch Tuesday night in Reno. You know what's nice about that, Clinton Kershaw understands his body very very well and what sortis may be leading to or may not be leading to. On top of that, it was out of the ordinary. So that's a little bit. Hey, we're going to keep a check on that end of it. Kershaw will let them know not just my performance, but he can also
articulate, hey, look, this is how I feel. This is normal, that's not normal, and we need to address this or possibly that. There's no timetable that has to be exact for Kershaw. That's the beauty of the entire situation. Dodgers are sixteen games over five hundred and eight games up in the division over the Padres. Meantime, the Angels thirty and forty five
and the Dodgers forty seven and thirty one. Getting ready for the first pitch tonight at Dodger Stadium, expecting to sell out crowd here tim all right, thank you guys, as we cut you down to first pitch. Dodger fans, get your game day meal on at Shakey's Pizza Parlor, Shaky's Pizza Chicken, and Mojo's Right now at Shakys dot com. Coming up here on Dodgers on Deck. You'll hear from the manager, Dave Roberts. You'll hear from show Hey Otani. When we come back, you'll hear from CT three coming
up in about thirty five minutes. We'll time deeper into this pitching matchup as well. But up next you're o Tani. Rewind can lead you up to Dodgers and Angels City Connect uniforms making their debut tonight for the Dodgers. First pitch is seven ten. Thanks for being with us. I'm Tim Katsu's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio, Nework. It's Laurento Casino, Dodgers on Dodgers on Deck. Y'all on the official home of La Dodgers Baseball. It's Dodgers and Angels
on this Saturday nights. Tyler Glass Now on the mound. We'll hear from CT three coming up in about thirty minutes. First pitch coming up, it's seven ten. This is the Otani rewinde and swung. I'm well hit the center. This spells word back in god. Home run number twenty two. Of course, Show hey, O'tani, the National League leader in home runs and the Dodgers lead at two to nothing, an absolutely majestic blast the center
field and Otani strikes again two two score bottom of the eve. I see you ready to go the right handers pitch swung on and ripped off of his glove. Otani hustling to first and he gets there on the base hit SHOWE Hey Otani last night. Two for two on base two times with a walk. His two run home run in the fifth inning got the Dodgers on the board. His single there in the eighth inning was the only hit that Dodgers
had after his home run in the fifth inning. A quiet night around show Hey Otani last night, but shoe Otani at least getting it done in a losing effort. The Otani rewind brought to by eto Inzoyocha, Japan's number one green tea and the Tea that Showeyotan Donnie Loves and drinks available your local Dizos stores, Amazon at eto In dot com. That's I t O e N dot Com. After the game last night, show Tani talked with David Investig
in the media. Sure, obviously disappointed to lose the game, but how strange was it to face your former team ends it is mm and just such did we played at home today, so not necessarily. I'm sure it's gonna feel a little different when we play at Anaheim Stadium. You were teammates for a while with Patrick Sandoval. You're obviously competing, but how tough was it
for you to watch him go through that today to nada one mascot? So it's became eventual uptun of bad hm hmm, Well, especially beginning cause he's not in a m not that hey Maska doing this. He really had good stuff against me. Unfortunately, Uh, I know he was uh, you know, had some apparent apparent injury. I hope he's gonna feel well and I hope he's gonna recover from whatever he's fearing. He kind of talks on hitting leadoff. How comfortable are you there? Do you do you like hitting
leadoff? Do you know you equal Penny? It's not going tooken me on? I don't know, do you know what? Nothing really meaningful change. I think the first at bat of the game is a little different. I'm more concerned who's hitting before and after. You're obviously a couple of months now into being a Dodger. She signed here in the winter, just kind of playing for a team that's expecting to play in October. Right, you're actually
in first place and getting those results. How is that different? Like I started to started today, do you do you know what's comecord to go? So you enough that you ensure man film the game and I really feel that the organization really values long term approach. Yeah, it's the same time. You know, although the players do understand that we really value winning the game each and every day. So it's really for me to approach really doesn't change
and really focus on playing each game. All right, there's show hey Otani last night after the game, he got it done with a couple of hits, including a two run home run, on base four times last night and then losing eff forty. He was a tressing Patrick Sandoval, the Angels left hander who left the game in the third inning last night grabbing his elbow. He has officially been placed on the fifteen day IL whether the Angels are calling an elbow strain. He will sit for the next few weeks and then be
reevaluated. The Dodgers fans, make sure you check out our friends at LA Care Health Plan. You love him. They've been serving Angelino's forever twenty six years in County and Hampshire. We continue here on Dodgers on Deck. We'll get you your injury report and we'll hear from the manager,

How will affect his rehab assignments. We'll find out in the next couple of days. In fact, we'll talk about it more with David Vasse coming up in just a couple of minutes. Let's head back out no to Dodger Stadium and here for the Dodger skipper. A questions for Dave. Dave, can
you just describe Dave? Can you talk about the pressure in the dugouts with Dave Roberts, He's shown frontline stuff, you know, to the ability to get swing and miss, you know, to dominate a lineup, the durability to to go deep in games, to take the baseball and uh, he's really just blended in, you know, shamelessly, with the players, the coaches, the front office and being a local guy. I know he's thrilled. So I think that it's just something that you know, he's always dreamt
about being here. So that's also another thing that's great, is you have a guy that's always wanted to be here. I don't know that answer. Well, I guess yes, we're going to manage it, but I don't see it as something where we have to essentially, you know, take them offline, you know, just kip a start something like that. I think that for us, we're very mindful of how he's feeling after every start,
going into each start. All right, there's Dave Roberts down the dugout, brought to you by Service Titan. Dave Roberts is a Titan in his own right, and he's got a plan before his team. It's the field you need one for your growing contracting business too. Let Service Titan help you implement it. Learn more at service Titan dot com. Well, we continue here on Dodgers on Deck. We'll check back in with David Vasse to lead you
up to first pitch Dodgers and Angels. I'm Tim Kase's Los Angeles Dodgers Audio Network. This is Marongo Casino Dodgers on Deck on your home for the Blue all season law. It's the Dodgers and Angels on this Saturday night. First pitch from Dodgers Stadium is coming up at seventen joining Tim Kats on Dodgers on deck. I accept everybody for who they are. This is Dodger insider David Basse. All right, David, we gotta start with Clayton Kershaw. What's
going on? He threw a bullpen and he's sore. Yeah. I guess after his start at Rancho Cuca Manga last week, he came out of it with a little soreness in his left shoulder, and you know pitchers are sore after they pitched. So he went with his regular scheduled bullpen session today and I guess during his light bullpen session he still felt soreness in his left shoulder.
So the Dodgers are waiting to see how he feels tomorrow before moving ahead with what was supposed to be his next scheduled start in Oklahoma City next Tuesday. But I will say this, Tim Kershaw has told me during this process that he has been pleasantly surprised that he hasn't had any real setbacks. And I'm not going to call this one a setback. But this is the first bump in the road since coming off a significant shoulder surgery. This is part
of the process. And maybe there's some scar tissue breaking up there in that left shoulder. So I wouldn't sound the alarms right now, but this is the first bump in the road in his rehab coming back from shoulder surgery. Well, we'll see how that progresses, and hopefully he can get back out there and another rehab start here quickly and on time, Dave. Last night, a former Dodger was in the building. Huh yeah. One of Kershaw's former teammates, Hung chi Quo. You may remember him being an All Star
out of the bullpen for the Dodgers in twenty ten. You may even remember him having the yips and not knowing where the ball was going and hitting Grdo Para. Then the Arizona Diamondbacks, which sparked almost a benches clearing brawl, and if you go back and look at the video on YouTube, you'll see Clayton Kershaw being the most vocal against Para, defending Hung chi Quo. Yes, thank you Kershaw. I song o here, Yeah, I got yesterday. Are you surprised that he's still pitching. No, I can. I
remember, you can always pitch foy. I think you can pitch forever. From my found from my remember he said three. Yeah, you probably get another couple of months. Oh, yes, he's gonna need the thirty five. Yeah, yeah, I can. I still can mention he's pitching for a forty five if you want to. Yeah. So. Uh. That
kind of started the brew hahab between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks won the division in twenty eleven, and then if you remember twenty twelve twenty thirteen, Kirk Gibson Matt Williams still the managers and third base coach there, and there was some some on field issues between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks there for a few years. David is driven by the Ford F Series, America's best selling
truck for forty seven years in counting. Ford gives you freedom of choice, gas, hybrid, electric, heady your Southern California Ford Dealers, and find yours. Ford F Series built tough Last Night tenth inning Angels scored in the top half of the inning dv the bottom half. The Dodgers had a runner at third ninety feet away, two outs, to play with and couldn't tie the game and they lose. Yeah, I heard you after the game last night, Tim, you did not say it as politely as you just said
it right there. But Dave Roberts also kind of protected his players. But let's be honest here. Taylor Ward, against one of the best relief pitchers in baseball, Evan Phillips, with two strikes and two outs, was able to put bat on ball to score that play runner that advanced to third base and gave the Angels a one run lead. The Dodgers in the bottom half of that tenth th inning were not able to do that. The key at
bat, keyk Hernandez striking out on three pitches against Carlos Estevez. Keyk needed to put the ball in play and certainly had a horrific at bat, and the Dodgers were not able to tie the score. But that was the difference between the Dodgers winning and the Dodgers losing last night. Tonight, it seems like you're in they're a good spot, DV. With Tyler Glasnaw on the mountain a fresh bullpen behind him. Oh yeah, big time, Tim.
Last night, Dave Roberts was a little handcuffed because not only did the Dodgers just come back from Coors Field, he had used Blake Trinan and Daniel Hudson and back to back games out there. Alex Vesia had thrown twenty three pitches the day before. But with the day off tomorrow rare day off on a Sunday, and you have Tyler Glass now your ace on the mound. The Dodgers are in a great spot if they can get a eat tonight DV great stuff. As always, we'll check back in with you in just a little

A beautiful hot summer day at Dodger Stadium. Rick, and hopefully the Dodger bats heat up again. Well, hopefully they heat up, and hopefully we don't have too many opposing batters that are hit by pitch. I mean,
let's just look at it as it was. Yeah, three hitters in one inning, and there was an interesting note run up by Eric Stephen Yarborough who hit those three hitters, the first Dodger reliever with hit three hit batters in the game since Carl Doyle on June eighth, nineteen forty at Cincinnati against the rent. So we saw history last night being repeated a long, long time ago. But you know, I expect him to reel it in and
get back on track. The Dodgers, quite frankly, last night did not when they needed to, and they had plenty of opportunities just to fell short. Going back to Yarborough, Rick, you always hear about guys talking baseball in the clubhouse. When I walked in today when the media was allowed in, he was suddling with Blake Trying and Anthony Banda. They were talking about what went sideways for him in that sixth inning. Well, that's how you
get better. Sometimes it's very difficult. It's it's painful to look at, you know, failure. It's painful to look at it. But the positive thing is these guys from top to bottom, and you're around them a lot, and you see it yourself as you saw today, they're constantly looking for a better way to do it, the better way to improve, you know, whether it be the shoehorn or whatever it might be. And sometimes it's painful. It's easy to look at the video after you've had a very good
game. It's painful to look at the video when it's not been that way. And having Phillips in a bad mood today too, Rick after giving up the go ahead hit in the time. But at the same time, you know you you come in and you inherit a runner already in scoring position and for the end, Angels they got it done. The Dodgers did not. And if you look at the history the last couple of years, the Dodgers have not had a record that actually blows you away in extra innings. No
doubt about it. Hey, Rick, We're still mourning the loss of Willie Mays. The Negro leagues are being celebrated this week in Major League Baseball, and it feels like some people are a little insensitive to the fact we lost one of the great people. I'm glad you brought that up, and maybe I'm too close to it, you know, to look at it from a
stance that some people have taken it. But three days ago I went online and normally and I referred to cbssports dot com a great deal, but there's a gentleman I'm not going to miss in his name, but the headline is who is now the greatest living MLB player? The funeral hasn't even taken place,
and that irritated me, and I thought it was insulting. I thought it was insensitive, and I would expect better of people that in the same breath when they're going to use all the bright lights of a great player and a guy that did so much for the game of baseball and for the country really and served time in the military on top of it, that being Willie Mays. And then before the man who's even laid to rest, you're coming up with an article is that. Okay, now, who's the greatest player,
the greatest living player in baseball? That riled me up. As you can tell, I thought again, I thought it was very insensitive, and it was something that I just wanted to vocalize that there are people that maybe disagree with me, and that's all well and good. I happen to be honor enough to watch Willie Mays play, honor enough to play against him for a few games and had great respect for him, and it just bothered me a great deal before even the man was laid to rest. Here's somebody that's
coming up with some kind of a deal. Okay, now, who's it's like. This isn't a ticket taking next, Who's in line? Who's in line? This is about the It's about people. Yeah, well, said Rick. I think we're all on board with what you had to say right there, because he was a person. He wasn't just some thing you know that you talk about it exactly. So yeah, anyone disagrees, just send it to David Basse and he'll field it and I'll return to send her.
Yeah. Yeah, I feel much better. But anyway, I continue to use that website, but I will not be reading what that gentleman wrote. All right, Rick, thanks a lot, and we'll check in with you Tim Nevertt a little bit later. Tim, we'll send it back to you in the studio. All right, appreciate that, Dave. Thank you, Mo. Chris uh not wearing the City Connect jerseys and warm up right now. But I'm sure you're just waiting to unveil it because you're such a big fista. Yeah. No, we were told to wait till they came to a big hit. So uh yeah, we got the Funfetti jerseys tonight. Oh. I like that. You even know the nickname for it? Yeah? No,
I mean it looks like a Funfetti kick. Chris. I saw you during batting practice, still shagging in center field. How often do you move positions just to be sharp whenever you're called upon? Yeah? I try to whenever we take VP on the field. We don't do it every day, so I try to get my reps. You know, usually I do ground balls before VP, so during VP, I'll run out there and get some move off the bat. You're coming off yourself and the team a pretty good
road trip. Do you feel like your confidence is starting to get back to where it has been in the past. Yeah, I feel pretty good, you know, the last week or so. I feel like I've been in a better place when I'm when I'm swinging balls moving forward, which is always a good sign, you know. And uh, you know, they made some mechanical changes that have been working well for me and starting to get more comfortable with. They're just trying to like get some rhythm and athleticism, and
you know, it's starting to show a little bit. And I'm sure it helped that you were able to play against a couple of lefties in the road to keep that rhythm. Yeah. No, just getting on the field, whether it's lefties or righties. It helps, you know, facing live pitching and continuing to get out there, even at this stage of your career when you make those type of adjustments, Do you need to see the results to
continue and stay consistent with it? You know, I think results are kind of It definitely helps you know your confidence and everything, but as much as you can, you try to trust the process and more so the quality of that bats than the whether you're getting hits or not. Easier said than done. But you know, for me, I just like that. Like I said, I'm moving them all forward. There's a less thing and in the strike zone and you know, more line drives, which I like. Did
I miss it in Denver? Did you have a triple? Because I feel like we have this debate Chris and I that the triple to me is the most exciting play in baseball outside of a walk off home run. Have you have you changed your mind about that? No, I would have much preferred that ball to go over the fence. I'm sure you would have, but it was more exciting for the fans to see you run the bases. Whither the running the bases or my dancing that I did on third base. See
that proves my point. We would not have gotten that dance if you hit a home run. That is true. So have I swayed you a little bit? Can we agree to disagree on that you got to leave to the fans. I'd rather run all the way around the basis coming out and not do the dance. But okay, yeah, the dance is kind of awkward. I'll be honest with you, the Freddy dance, I could live with the other hip block thing you guys do. I don't know, it feels a little awkward and you didn't really do it. Well, well I do
I do it Freddy? Well, yeah, it's awkward. Good Okay, Well you're gonna have to show me how it's done then, Okay, maybe a little bit later, Chris, before I let you go. You've been part of so many good teams with the Dodgers. Uh, do you feel like this team is still has a lot of room to hit their ceiling? Yeah, you know, I think there's definitely been ups and downs. Obviously,
having a full healthy roster would help us. You know, there's times where all of our guys were kind of click in, and then there's times where we're all sort of in a slump. So that's just gonna happen over the course of the season. You know, hopefully it balances out. But yeah, we'd love to be like hitting our stride, you know, at the end of the year. But uh, you know when it counts in October. But right now, I feel like we're in a we're in a
good play. You know, guys have stepped up and covered for the injured guys, so that's been picked yourself included. That's why we like to like to see you out there with the Freddy and whatever else do you do out there, Taylor. Yeah, I'm just happy to be contributing anyway I can right now. You know that those first couple of months, Yeah, that was the toughest part is going out there and failing over and over and again. You know, you feel like your your teammates are I can't really counting
you. It's a bad feeling. So to finally come through and contribute one of my numbers called, you know, it just feels good to be like playing good baseball and helping the team win. is seven and five with a three ERA. Zach Plisach makes his second start of the season in the Big Leagues. He's one to zero and a four and a half ERA for glass Now is major league tying sixteenth start. Now he won his last outing on Sunday, a three to nothing shutout when here at Dodger Stadium against Kansas City. He pitched seven shutout innings and he was
outstanding. But he had been the hard luck loser in his previous four decisions, as the team just didn't get him an he runs so yet for some reason, Glass now has been kind of a negative situation and looking up on the board and not too many runs scor Here's something to watch with Glassnow.
It's rather unusual. The last four starts that he's hand he has not allowed a base hit in the first inning of any the last four starts, and then you start to look the first time through a lineup one through nine for the season. Glass now is given up just a one twenty seven batting average against him. Zach Pleae sack twenty seven and twenty seven overall, but he's given up seventy four home runs in his major league career. Susceptible to the
long ball, warm night ball could carry, yeah, could carry. And for Pleae sack, you know, twenty nine year old right here, He's had one start that was when he was with Cleveland against the Dodgers. That was two years ago. A couple of guys have hit pretty well with him. Otani is three for seven against him, and Tiascar Hernanez is three for six. But for Polee, sack one of those things that comes on substituting
because of an injury.
