Dodger Talk is sponsored by LA Care Health Plan, providing affordable healthcare insurance to millions of Angelinos for over twenty five years. Welcome to Off Day Dodger Talk. The Dodgers are in Philadelphia getting set for their final road trip before the All Star Break. They will start with three games in Philadelphia starting tomorrow night. It will be a two thirty Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck with first pitch at three point forty from the City of Brotherly Love. We're with you until
eight o'clock tonight here on AM five to seventy LA Sports. We may have a fan favorite calling in from parts unknowns and we are taking your phone calls until eight o'clock on this off day Dodger Talk. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number we will get to trade talk. Mind numbing trade talk. Bob Nightingale was on with Money and Don McClain. As I mentioned to them, he stole my thunder about former Dodger Nathan Avaldi.
I mean you could read that with Brail Uh. If the Rangers are selling, Nathan Avaldi would be at the top of the list of not only the Dodgers, but every other team in Major League Baseball that is trying to contend and win in the playoffs, So we'll get to that. And also there may be an impact bat nobody is talking about in connection with the Dodgers. Also, we will get to the All Star snubs. I feel like a few players were snubbed for the All Star Game, so we'll get to
that. And also right now, my guy ta Oscar Hernandez is being snubbed for the home run Derby, So we'll get to all that later in the show, and possibly a special guest calling in between now and eight o'clock. Eight six six nine, eight seven two five seventy is the phone number before we get to all that, and before we go forward, we have to look back on a home stand that left you wanting more, wanted more against
the Diamondbacks. Instead, Christian Walker just continue to dominate the Dodgers, and they lost two out of three to Arizona. The Dodgers now have a losing record against Arizona in San Diego in their division this season, not a coincidence with them sweeping the Dodgers last year in Arizona and the Dodgers falling to the Padres the year before and four games. The bigger question is for the Dodgers.
Do the Diamondbacks and Padres have the game plan on how to beat the Dodgers since they play them thirteen times in a season, and if you go back to a couple of years ago when the Padres beat the Dodgers in the NLDS, they played each other nineteen times, So you would have to imagine the Diamondbacks and Padres, who also have a front office, who also have
a manager, also have an analytics department. They're taking notes and maybe they have the Dodgers' number, considering they're the two teams in the division that have a winning record against the Dodgers. And that's why if the Dodgers are in the postseason, you do not want to see the Padres or Diamondbacks because they seem to know how you pitch them. They know how to pitch you, and those are the two teams that have knocked you out of the postseason unceremoniously
the last two years. So don't discount or just push aside the fact that the Diamondbacks swept the Dodgers last year. They gave them fits last regular season as well, and already this season they have beaten the Dodgers more than the Dodgers have beat them. Same with the Padres. The Dodgers have lost five of eight against Arizona or San Diego this year, so definitely something to keep
your eye on. And will Smith certainly helped the Dodgers have a five hundred homestand after Christian Walker left town, will Smith must have saved one of his bats because he hit three home runs on Friday night, was on base all five times, and then in his first at bat on Saturday afternoon he homereed as well. So four home runs and four at bats for will Smith, and yesterday I felt like the Dodgers had things in their favor to sweep Milwaukee.
No, not because they had Justin Robleski on the mound, but because the Brewers were throwing out journeyman Dallas Kikeel, who was signed to a minor league deal by the Mariners and traded to the Brewers a couple of weeks ago, and the Dodgers let Kikel off the hook a few different times. That was disappointing. They could not get young just Robleski some runs in his first major league start. And what was going on with Reys Hoskins yesterday getting upset
at Johann Santana hitting him in the sixth inning. Did he believe that Johan Santana was trying to hit him? I mean, has he watched Johann Santana. His pitches moved quite a bit. He's gotten a lot better, but the pitches move a lot and Johann Johann Ramirez, I should say, Johann
Ramirez was not trying to hit him. And after the inning was over and Hoskins ended up the inning at third base, I was watching Johann Ramirez try to apologize once again to Hoskins, and Hoskins basically was soch a poor sportsman that he went around and avoided Ramirez so Ramirez could not say I'm sorry one more time. Johann Ramirez one of the greatest people you'll ever meet. I mean, that guy's got a heart of gold. He loves being in the
big leagues. He doesn't take it for granted. And by no means was he trying to hit Hoskins on purpose. So I don't know what's going on with Hoskins. Maybe he was upset that he has to go back to Milwaukee for his home games, but that was ridiculous. Going back to Justin Robleski, I had gotten a text from his Triple A manager, Travis Barbery, yesterday morning, and I asked Travis, Hey, what stood out to you the most about Robleski And he wrote back that he's very prepared and detailed and
how he goes about his process of getting ready for every start. He pays very close attention to opposing hitters in the days he's not pitching. And you may say, how did he do that against the Brewers, Well, Robleski
knew he was going to start on Sunday. He was in Los Angeles on Saturday, so I'm sure he was watching the game that was nationally televised on Saturday afternoon and took some notes, not to mention, when you come to the big leagues, there's a lot more scattering reports and detailed reports on hitters tendencies than there is at Triple A. So I'm sure he was going all through that considering what his manager at Triple A, Travis Barbery, said about
him. And here was Justin Robleski after yesterday's game, after making his major league debut. Justin obviously major league debuts are always exciting. How did you control your emotions to start the game? Yeah, I felt good. It was just kind of a matter of being grateful for the moment and just kind of that's kind of the big theme is I was kind of on the way over here today, it's just like I'm really thankful for the opportunity, and you know, at this point, like you're already here, like, let's
just do it. And I got a lot of fun. I was. I felt pretty comfortable out there, so I think I didn't think I was gonna I thought I was gonna be pretty nervous, but I was just kind of, I don't know, like any other game. I felt normal, felt like I belonged. So it was a lot of fun. Yeah. So I had been told earlier this week that there was a chance, and then kind of the past couple of days have been crazy trying to figure it
out. And I get a call, you know, midnight two days ago or whatever telling me like, you're gonna come over here, you still may not pitch, And then end up getting the call last night when I was at dinner that that I'm going to start today, and I was just super excited and happy, and you know, obviously debut today. So where were you eating? Chipotle? Garhouse? Yeah, yardhouse. Yeah, a long
week. We got back in from from Vegas earlier this week at like four am on Wednesday or Thursday or whatever it was, and play a couple of games and then obviously this all happened. So what was it like to be in the same dugout with Clayton Khrushaw, who I know was your favorite player to him kind of encourage you when you came back to the dugout. Yeah, it's it's obviously really cool. You know, a guy like him who's been in the game for so long, obviously legend. It's really cool,
really really cool. All right, there's Justin Robleski, who certainly was for his opportunity to make his major league debut. Unfortunately it comes in a loss.
He was charged with four runs and the Dodgers fall to the Brewers nine to two, and coming into the game yesterday, the Dodgers really owned the Brewers, especially at Dodgers Stadium. They had only lost once to Milwaukee in the last fifteen games coming into yesterday, but the Brewers were able to salvage the final game of the series and look I had said this coming into the series, the Dodgers needed to separate themselves from the Brewers because with this new
playoff format, it's important to get one of the first two seeds as a division winner because you get a first round by and you can line up your pitching for the nlds when you're playing in a best of three series, even as the home team as a division winner, that's not ideal. And coming into the series, the Dodgers were only one game ahead of Milwaukee for the number two seed in the National League postseason picture. So winning two out of
three gave the Dodgers a little breathing room. And everybody keeps asking Brewers, broadcasters and anybody around their team, how are you winning with this pitching staff? And they're finding a way. Whether or not it lasts in the second half still remains to be seen. But the Dodgers go from playing one division winner to another division winner or division leader in the National League, and from the Brewers to the Phillies in Philadelphia. And I know everybody's hyping up this
series, and it's a big series. It's an exciting series, Marquis series, no doubt about it. But let's not forget. The Phillies do come to Dodgers Stadium the second week of August. So this is only as big as right now. When the Phillies come to LA it will be just as hyped as this one is. But this one is lacking, you know, the it's lacking. It's lacking Mookie bed it's lacking Max Munsey, it's lacking Yoshi Yamamoto. It's lacking currently Bryce Harper, JT. Realmudo and Kyle Schwarber.
Those three Phillies could be activated tomorrow or sometime during the series, So we'll see whether or not that happens or not. But I firmly believe these are the two teams you will see in the NLCS. Dodgers Phillies get ready for a showdown from eighth nine, from seventy seven, seventy eight. It feels like it's going to be Dodgers Phillies again in the NLCS. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number when we continue here
on off day Dodger Talk, we'll take your phone calls. We got two lines open, and also we'll get into my numbing trade talk. Who do you want to see on July thirtieth, be traded to the Dodgers. I have a few ideas myself. We'll talk about it next right here on a five to seventy LA Sports off Day Dodger Talk. We have phone lines open at eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy. The Dodgers are in Philadelphia getting set to open up a three game series against the Phillies, and
then from there they will go to Detroit before the All Star break. When the All Star break is over with, the Dodgers will resume the ceremonial second half against the Boston Red Sox. So that should be fun. Kenley Janssen coming back to Dodgers Stadium for the second time since leaving the Dodgers, and for the second time in a different uniform, this time with the Boston Red Sox. Remember a couple of years ago, the last time Kenley was at
Dodger Stadium, it was as an Atlanta Brave. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. How much stock are you putting into this Dodger Philly series? Are you? You feel like he carries more weight than I do? Because look, even if the Dodgers swept the Phillies in this series. Let's say all goes perfectly, the Dodgers shock Philadelphia,
go in there and sweep them. Does it really matter in October? Does it even matter in the second week of August when Philadelphia comes to Dodgers Stadium. I'm not sure what this series proves, especially with no Mookie Bets, no Max Muncy, no Yoshi Yamamoto, and also the possibility of any one of the Phillies injured players in real Muto, Harper or Schwarber not playing, not to mention, both of these teams may look a lot different when the
Phillies come to LA after the July thirtieth trade deadline. So that's how I feel about this series. It's going to be a fun series. We're gonna get passionate those Philly people. It's hot, it's humid back there. They're angry, they're not feeling great. Well. It's going to be a very, very hostile environment for the Dodgers these next three games, and I'm interested to see how not only Bobby Miller reacts, but also Gavin Stone in the
second game of this series. Let's go out to the phone lines before we get to more nine, mind numbing trade talk, Tony and Whittier. You're on Dodger Talk with David Vasse. How you doing, Tony? Good Dave. How's it going tonight? Oh? It's going great. First of all, I just want to ask you a quick question. With all the trade
talks going on, who's going to be included in what trade? I mean, I know the Dodgers are loaded with on the farm, but who do you think is realistically going to be part of any package, any trade you know come July thirtieth. Well, I don't know the names, Tony, but if you're talking about getting a Garrett Crochet or a Nathan Valdi, you're talking about blue chip pitching. We're talking about maybe a Landing Knack, maybe
a Justin Robleski. Diego Kartaya definitely is a name that teams have called about in the past, maybe even a Miguel Vargas, Tony. That's something you all should brace yourself for. Yeah. I mean, to get a player like Garrett Crochet who's not a rental, you're gonna have to give up a lot, right right? Yeah, that's what I was That crossed my mind. But I just want to hear it from you because I know you know more than we do, so but I appreciate you taking my call. Thanks
a lot, All right, Tony, thanks for the phone call. Look, at this time of year, Andrew Friedman is really not tipping his hand too much, and if he does, he's doing it for a purpose. He wants misinformation out there day one. I was there when he was hired, and he is not opposed to misinformation because that creates chaos and sometimes plays in the Dodgers' hands. So he plays it very close to the vest and is not really talkative around this time a year leading up to the July thirtieth
trade deadline. But look, there's no secret the Dodgers need a starting pitcher. They need a starting pitcher that can pitch a playoff game and come up big, and Garrett Crochet is certainly the number one name that's out there.
Interesting enough, when I saw that the Rangers were now eight and a half games back of the Astros, when I looked a couple of days ago, and also eight and a half games back of the last wild card spot, it made me wonder would the Rangers sell off certain pieces knowing that they don't really have a chance knowing that their owner has not really opened up the purse as much as he has the last two off seasons. I mean, the
Rangers, they were pretty much inactive this offseason. They're now forty two and forty eight, six games back of the Astra or the Mariners in the AL West, and they have to leap frog the red hot Astros. So now all of a sudden, are forty six and forty four, two games back of Seattle in the AL West. I fully expect the Astros to win that division. And if you look at the wildcard race in the American League, the Rangers are seven and a half games back. The Tampa Bay Rays are
closer to the Wildcard than the Texas Rangers are. So that got me thinking. And then when you see a guy like Ken Rosenthal right in the athletic that yes, the Rangers are considering selling. And when they say sell, they're talking about not Corey Seeger, not Marcus Simeon. They're talking about pitchers like Mac Scherzer. They're talking about a pitcher like former Dodger Nathan Valdi, who's a two time World Series champion. And when I bring that up,
it's not like he was just along for the ride. He was one of the biggest reasons why the Red Sox won in twenty eighteen and also one of the biggest reasons why the Rangers won last year. If Nathan Evaldi is available, I would venture to say I take him over Garrett Crochet. I know that sounds crazy, hear me out. Number one, you probably would not have to give up as much for Avaldi because not too many teams can take
on his contract for the rest of this year and next year. He is going to hit the innings that is required for his contract to kick in for twenty million dollars next year. Nathan Evaldi is a great guy. Number One. He's an ultimate competitor. He is a winner, a proven winner, and you wouldn't have to give up the farm for Nathan Avaldi. Now, you would have to give up something significant to get him, but I'm sure it would not empty the system of Blue Chippers that it would take to get
Garrett Crochet. If I had to choose between Crochet and Nathan Evaldi, I'm taking the veteran. Veterans win championships. Those are the guys that will carry you. Garrett Croche is awesome in Chicago, he was fearless against the Dodgers in Chicago. But Nathan Evaldi has been to the mountaintop and people know him in the organization. You're trying to tell me. Ron Rennicky, a special
assistant to Andrew Freeman, is not saying, get this guy. You're telling me if Andrew Freeman talks to Mookie Betts, who, by the way, I saw them taking a long walk together near the Dodger dugout, you're telling me Mookie Betts is saying, Nah, Nathan Avaldi, We're good. No, Mookie Betts is telling Andrew Friedman, if you can get Nathan Evaldi, get him. Nathan Evaldi is the guy. And with this news that Max Munsey now is going to be out longer than right after the All Star break,
Dave Roberts saying he's had a setback. Here's a name that nobody talks about. Why would you rule out the possibility of acquiring Vladimir Guerrero Junior. Yes, that's the blue Jay to get. If you're going to acquire an impact bat, make it Vladimir Guerrero Junior, not Bo Bashet. With this news about Max Munsey, and you may say, where's Vladimir Guerrero Junior going
to play third base. That's where he's going to play. Well, what about when Munsey comes back, Well, let's cross that bridge when we get there. So far, he's not coming back. They've been waiting. He hasn't come back. And you may say, okay, Vladimir Guerrero Junior is a free agent after next year and he's going to get a big contract.
Yeah he is. Remember what happened when Corey Seger went down with a broken hand, Andrew Freeman pulled off a big trade for Max Scherzer and also Trey Turner, knowing full well it was a long shot to keep Trey Turner. Knowing full well, we probably won't keep Trey Turner, but we need him right now and we can move him to second base when Seger comes back. Vladimir Guerrero Junior is in the same spot. The Dodgers are in the same
spot. Vladimir Guerrero Junior is the blue Jay the Dodgers need to go after with this news of Max Munsey being out longer than anticipated. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. Yeah, I know, I just blew your mind. Take a second before you dial, let's go out to him. Glenn. You're on Dodger Talk with David Vasse. How you doing, Glenn? Thanks, you're taking my call. David. I wanted to ask you two things. One about course, uh, what's
his era and his record? And what dog uggs are coming back after the All Star Game and win? Okay, well, I'll try to answer that as best as I can. Number One, Mookie Betts is coming back after the All Star Game. We thought Max Munsey was coming back after the All Star Game, but all of a sudden, now Dave Roberts said he's had a sent back, so I guess we can't count on Max Munsey coming back right away. That's why I'm a big believer that the Dodgers should inquire about
Vladimir Guerrero Junior. And he may say he hasn't played third base in a while, he's been moved to first base. I know we hear about the Dodgers talking about defense, but really it feels like defense is secondary with some of the positions we've seen them put their players at. I mean, come on, we saw them put Gavin Lux in center field. We saw them try Jock Peterson at first base. Max Munsey has had to learn third base on the fly, and Garrett Crochet is six and six this year with an
ERA of three zero eight. He leads the league in starts made nineteen. He's thrown one hundred and five innings so far this year, which brings up another concern for teams out there inquiring about Crochet. He's coming off Tommy John surgery from a couple of years ago, and his innings Max has been fifty four and a third before the injury, So many are wondering, well, what does that mean? Does that mean that Garrett Crochet only has like fifty
innings left to pitch? I wouldn't say that. And whoever's trying to acquire Crochet is not only acquiring him for this year, but for the next two years. That's why the price is going to be really high. You're not getting Crochet just for this year, You're getting him for the next two years.
That's part of this equation. And look, if the Dodgers or the Orioles or any other playoff team acquire Garrett Crochet, they're going into it fully aware of the fact that right now he has thrown more innings than he ever has before, and the Dodgers are probably in the best position of any team out there to manage his innings the rest of this regular season to be ready
for the postseason. And if you do acquire Crochet all of a sudden, now you have three pitchers that will be pitching more innings than they ever have in their careers. That would be Crochet, Glass Now, and Gavin Stone. And that's why I'm all in with Nathan Ivaldi. I know he's coming off his second Tommy John surgery, but this guy works tirelessly to be big,
to be strong, to be physical, and he's seeing him. I mean, I haven't seen him probably since the eighteen World Series, and standing in front of him, the size of Nathan Valdi was incredibly impressive, and it makes a lot of sense why he is the poster child for coming back from a second Tommy John surgery. He's not frail, his shoulders are huge, his body is big, physical, his hands are humongous. This guy spends all his time in the weight room. I would say, from what
people were telling me, with the Rangers, you can't find Avaldi. And if you're looking for a Valdi, he's in one or two places, the weight room or the bullpen. That's what type of player he is. Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number. So all of a sudden we were talking Crochet and Randia Rose Arena. Now with this news coming out that the Rangers may indeed be very practical about their season and listen to offers for Nathan Valdi, I'm all in to bring Nate a Valdi
home. Let's go out to Fresno. Jeff, you're on Dodger Talk, Hi, Jeff, Hi David, how are you? I completely agree one thousand percent with Crochet. This is the longest he's ever gone. He's being stretched out as a former reliever, and we have enough of those on the Dodgers, and he's the bright, shiny flavor of the month. And a veteran like a Baldi or or someone else is exactly what the Dodgers need. And third base, yes, obviously the place we need to focus on with
the infield. I remember Rick said the other day that the Dodgers collectively are hitting right around or under two hundred at third base. So those are the glaring needs. And yeah, I'm I'm one of those few that's like, please don't get Crochet because I just see him ending up on the aisle in
August and then we're gonna lose three or four good prospects. And look, Jeff, if you need a third baseman and you feel like you can get Nata Valdi and Vladimir Guerrero Junior, which you know what, I'm not sure
the Blue going to trade vlad Junior. But let's say you put together a package for Vladimir Guerrero Junior that may have been part of a Crochet deal, then you don't have to give up as much for Nathan Evaldi because you know he's only under contract for one more year, He's coming off a second Tommy John surgery. All these things would lessen the trade value for a guy like NATEA. Valdi. But if you're the Dodgers, you want Nathan Evaldi.
And I could tell you this, The Dodgers were considering signing a Valdi before last year. And there were a lot of former Red Sox on the Dodgers last year that were teammates with Evaldi that were trying to implore Andrew Freeman to sign Avaldi. And I'm sure that has remained consistent after what they saw last year. Yeah, can I make one more point? This is about the
Philly Series. Yeah, I agree that that championships aren't won in July series, but I think it's really important for our young hitters, you know, Andy Pajez and and those to see you get their first look at Wheeler and Nola and I don't know if Suarez is pitching, but they need to see these guys. Obviously, they're gonna hopefully see him twice, so if nothing else, they're gonna get some abs against these guys. Hey, great point.
At least you'll get a look at him, but they'll also get a look at them the second week of August when the Phillies are in LA. So yeah, you're you're trying to get a scout and report not just from the data but also with your eyes and your experience. So all of that
is great. Thanks for the phone call, Jeff, appreciate it. Hey, speaking of the young guys, how about James Autman, who got a great ovation when he was introduced in the starting lineup on Saturday, and then he delivered with two hits, and yesterday he came up with a hard hit base hit to right field in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter. So just my observations looking at James Outman, he looks like a guy that has had a lot of weight lifted off his shoulders and he is going to join
us on the pregame show the second game of the series in Philadelphia. He just seems to be mentally a lot clearer and his swing seems to be a lot more fluid from what I've seen. Let's take one more phone call before we take our final time out. Let's go out to Claremont. Danny, You're on Dodger Talk. Hi, Danny, Hey Dave, how's it going today? Man? I think I was happy to hear you mentioned Evaldi.
That guy would be a huge pickup for them. He's very proven pitcher, especially in big games like that, so that gotta be a huge pickup, and especially to have him come back where he started with the Dodgers. And that's why you see these teams wait so long to make moves because you never know you know who's going to be available or what a team situation might be, and you might be surprised over who could become available. Even in the
coming weeks. There might be names we're not quite aware of. But I think Evaldi I'd be a big one to get. I'm not sure about vlad I think that one might be a little more far fetched. And as the player we want, you know, he's been really a struggling player the last few years. You know he's gonna be a clunker at third base. I mean Max has already over there, and he's gonna he's gonna be reunited with Dino Ebel, who was very close to his dad. Dino Ebel will make
him work. The accountability of this clubhouse will make him work and get better. And let's be honest, the Dodgers have lived with Max Munsey at third base, who has been you know, the data says an average third baseman. I'm sure Vladimir Guerrero Junior can become an average third baseman as well. This this has Trey Turner. This has Trey Turner written all over it.
Just like Trey Turner, who's not the greatest defensive shortstop. The Dodgers saw an opportunity of need because of a temporary injury, and we're able to sign Trey Turner. Now. I know Seeger was going to be a free agent. Munsey is not. But Uh, there's a lot of things you can do if you trade for Vladimir Guerrero Junior for the rest of this year,
and you can move some things around next year as well, Danny. So I'm not saying that Dodgers can sign Vladdie Junior to a three hundred million dollar contract, because you can't sign everybody to that, but you can have him for the next two years like you had Trey Turner. It would be an interesting move. I don't know if it's exactly like the Turner move there. I see the similarities you're talking about, but he's not really a third baseman,
and Max has improved a lot over there this season. He was doing really well. He has. But I don't think if Vladimir Guerrero Junior was bad at third base or not playable I guess in Toronto, but he was playing on AstroTurf. It's a lot different playing at Dodgers Stadium and playing your games in the NL west on Grass and also being on the Dodgers with Dino Ebol and Mookie Beds and Freddie Freeman as your first baseman. I mean maybe, I mean we already took a bijo from them. I don't know if
you need to keep taking the the Toronto Blue Jays cast offs ball. You're telling me, you're telling me Vladimir Guerrel Junior is a cast off. Any team in baseball would love to have twenty five year old Vladimir Guerrero Junior. You talk about, I'm sure you're one of those guys too that complains about the bottom third of the Dodger order. Do you know the impact it would have on the Dodgers order if Vladimir Guerrero Junior was in it with the big
four. It would move everybody down. It would move Oscar down, it would move Rojas down. It would just have a trickle down effect that would be huge. It wouldn't just be about third base and Vladimir Guerrero Junior. It would be for the whole lineup. Danny. I mean, he's a very he's a talented hitter, Dave, But you'd have to give up a lot to get that guy for a season. I don't know. I think I think it's kind of hard be honest with you for a season. Plus,
Oh hey, Dave, I have one other question. All right, I agree to disagree on that, and you have to give him too much to get the guy. Hey, you could be here for an hour and talking about the same old, boring names. I'm thinking outside the box that I don't believe is unrealistic, especially if you move off Garrett Crochet and you start thinking about Nathan Vivaldi and then you start thinking about Vladimir Guerrero Junior.
I was thinking Crochet and Randyo Rose Arena, which still may be the two guys the Dodgers get, But I'm thinking outside the box now with Vladimir Guerrero Junior. With this news about Max Munsey, I mean I'd be more excited about seeing Vargas over at third base, and you know, like they've been talking about and seeing if he could do anything over there. If you're gonna put a clunker over there anyways, how do you know? How do you
know he's a clunker? You're gonna trust the blue JS Well a third base, I mean as a third base, but he's played third base? Do you know to play third base? And like I said, dude, the Dodgers really emphasize defense. They want the bat in the lineup and they'll find you a position. Well, we won't agree to disagree, Dare we'll see
what we'll see what, we'll see what happened in a few weeks. Like like I was saying, you never know what player could become available, But hey, what do you what are the chances Gavin luck is still a Dodger come August one? What do you what are your thoughts there? I'd say fifty to fifty. I'd say with Mookie Bets coming back and Miguel Rojas going to be the dodgers h shortstop moving forward, I would say fifty to fifty.
If there's a trade that needs an extra player to be thrown in, it could be Gavin lux Okay, and if he's still on the team, I don't believe he'll be the starting second baseman. Well, well, if he's not that, then what's on the team for you know, he's run show me. I think you can answer your own question. He's you'd use them in another capacity and get some value for the guy while you can. We'll see, and you know, I don't know who's going to be traded.
It's it's a rough time year because all these guys are mentioning Vargas lux Autman. I mean, all these guys could be part of a deal. You never know what what kind of deal they could pull off. I think you just answered your own question, Danny, Yeah, maybe I did. Dave, thank you for helping me get there though. Man all good Man, thanks a lot for listening. Good conversation. Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number. We're gonna take our final time
out here on off day Dodger Talk when we come back. More mind numbing trade talk. Vladimir Guerrero Junior. Look, things have changed in the last forty eight to seventy two hours with this Max Monsey news. The Dodgers need a solution at third base if they can't count on Max Mounsey. And his name is Vladimir Guerrero Junior. Six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. Also, Tioscar Hernandez, who also has been a great leader
for Andy Paz, Miguel Vargas and others. He wants in on the home run derby. You'll hear from Taoscar next right here on a five to seventy LA Sports David Vasse taking you to the top of the hour on this off day Dodger Talk. Jason Smith on Fox Sports radio will follow us. Tomorrow. The Dodgers will be back in action against the Phillies in Philadelphia Morongo Casino. Dodgers on Deck begins at two point thirty with first pitch at three forty.
It will be Bobby Miller on the mound for the Dodgers tomorrow and Gavin Stone on the mound for the Dodgers on Tuesday. We have a few more minutes for phone calls at eight six, six, nine eighty seven, two five seventy uh Before we go on to anything else, I just want to send out our congratulations to Justin and Courtney Turner, who welcomed their first child
into the world a couple of days ago. I was keeping tabs on it because full disclosure, I have Justin on one of my fantasy teams, and it said he was on the paternity list, and I was not aware the baby was due. So I just wanted to wish my congratulations to Justin and Courtney, and Justin went back to work. The Blue Jays are in San Francisco starting tomorrow, so I'm sure Justin made a pit stop from Seattle to San Francisco back in LA but all our best to the Turner family, and
congratulations to Justin and Courtney. Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number. Let's go out to Long Beach. Joe, you're on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Joe? How you doing? Dave? This is a Joe the live driver. I spoke too a few weeks ago or a month. Hey, I remember that you had a few few over served ladies in your back seat. That's that's right, that's right.
Good for you, good for them for taking a lift. Hey, listen, I love the trade potential to maybe get Laddie, but couldn't we get Justin Turner thrown in there? I would love to have Justin Turner back and look third base. Yeah, I wouldn't rule it out. I mean, we've seen other former Dodgers come back, so I wouldn't rule it out. But you know, Vladimir Guerrero Junior is the impact bat we're talking about. And Joe, can you believe there's Astros bloggers now saying the Houston Astros should
trade for Justin Turner to play first base for Houston? Would Justin block a trade there, even with a no trade clause? Would he just say? I am not going there, can you. I can't even imagine Justin Turner in an Astros uniform. Yeah, I don't be I don't think that'll go. I don't think he would go for that. I was just thinking, you know what, Hey, you get the big bat with with Laddie and you would take care of third base at the same time. Yeah, I agree. I agree. Thanks a lot for the phone call, Joe.
And I'm not really sure how much third base Justin Turner has played in Toronto. I know the Red Sox last year were using him as a DH and first baseman, and it feels like that's the way Toronto is using him as well. So I'm not sure the range is there for thirty nine year old Justin Turner to go back to third base. I want to mention Taoscar Hernandez, speaking of the Blue Jays, former Blue Jay, another guy that certainly would be a mentor of Vladimir Guerrero Junior. I'm sure he was a big
brother to him when he came up in Toronto. Ta Oscar let me know a few days ago that he wants in in the home run Derby, but he's just waiting for Major League base fall to invite him. What's taken so long? There's so many guys like Aaron Judge that say no, why not invite a guy that has more home runs and RBIs than any other National League outfielder to participate in the Home Run Derby. Look, he's a showman. He came up with the sunflower seeds. He's not some stiff that's just going
to hit home runs. He's got a personality. I'm all in with Taoscar Hernandez being part of the Home Run Derby. And here was Taoskar after the game yesterday going on the record that he wants in on the derby. You've said that if you made the All Star team, he would love to be in the Home Run Derby. Is that still something you're interested in? Yeah? Yeah, why not? Obviously in my career, I want to. I wanted to be a part of it, see how it feels, and
why not trying to go for it and then win everything. So now it's official, your name's out there. I don't know. I don't know if it depends how MLV wants to decide, yes, but I'm able to. I'm gonna be to participate on it, all right, ta Oscar Hernandez now on the record for being wanting in on the home run derby. Make it happen, Major League Baseball, you already snubbed former Dodger Kennley Jansen. Can you believe Kennley Jansen did not make the All Star team? But Yankees closer?
Oh, the Yankees. The Yankees got Clay Holmes selected by Major League Baseball to be part of the Al Relief Corps. Clay Holmes, who has five blown saves and a whip of one three zero six, made it over Kennley Janssen, who is on the verge of being the man with the fourth most saves in Major League Baseball history. Ken Lee snubbed again. I can't think of a guy that is a possible Hall of Famer being snubbed as many
times as Kenley Jansen has in his career for an All Star opportunity. Ken Ley this year with the Red Sox has converted seventeen of eighteen save opportunities and has a whip just over one. And he's not saving three run leads in Boston. I got news for you. He's saving one two run leads. And that's why I said he was a bigger snub than Craig Kimbrel. Come on, we all know about Craig Kimbrel, right, He's not on the level of Kenley Jansen, even at this stage of their careers. And I
love that Kenley Jansen continues to prove the critics wrong. Many thought he was done three or four years ago, and he's still going strong. He had a great year with Boston last year. He had a great year the year before with Atlanta. He is still one of the best closers in all of baseball and still is the reigning saves champion for the Dodgers. He has more
saves than any other Dodger and franchise history, three hundred and fifty. He deserved to be an All Star. And I find it hard to believe if things continue this way, with the Red Sox being in the Wildcard race and now only three games back of the Yankees in the Al East, that they are going to trade Kenley Janssen. That just would not go over well in
Boston. Boston is seven and a half games back of Baltimore, and they're now four and a half games back of the Yankees in the standings, but only three back in the lost column, and as far as the wildcard goes, and I know there's been rumors about Kenley being traded back to the Dodgers. The Red Sox are actually right now the last wildcard team in the American League is Yankees. Twins, Red Sox Red Sox are forty nine and forty.
And that's a testament to Alex kra who learned how to really manage baseball sea baseball coming up through the Dodger organization. He was drafted, developed by the Dodgers and I'll never forget. While Alex was still playing, Steve Garvey walked up to us in the dugout and said, this guy is going to be a manager and a great one, and it's turned out to be true. All right, that'll do it for us on Dodger Talk tonight. We
will be with you after the game tomorrow Morongo Casino. Dodgers on Deck begins at two thirty with Tim Kits First pitch with Rick Monday and Tim Neverett in Philadelphia at three forty.
