Like back, David Basse. Welcome the Dodger Talk David Vasse live at Dodgers Stadium after the Dodgers win there fourth in a row by beating the Giants tonight three to two, eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. We are with you until eleven o'clock tonight. Jose
Mota will join us at ten forty five. We'll check in with two random stars that joined Dodger the Dodgers tonight at Dodgers Stadium. Brad Paisley, who is one of the great musicians out there, was here at Dodgers Stadium and he brought his good buddy William Shatner to Dodgers Stadium to meet Clayton Kershaw, and we were right in the middle of it before the games. So we'll
share that with you. Like I said on X earlier today, Clayton Kershaw, Brad Paisley and William Shatner in the same photo that only happens in Los Angeles, and that's part of what makes it special to be here. And Brad is a big time Dodger fan, and William Shatner I feel like he got his first taste of Dodger baseball in a very long time. So we'll share that with you a little bit later. We also have a pair of tickets to give away for Wednesday night's game where the Dodgers will be giving out
Keiky Hernandez bobbleheads. So we have a pair of tickets to give away for Wednesday Night's game. Between now and eleven o'clock, eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. How many of you realize River Ryan made his major league debut tonight? How many of you realize how River Ryan got to the Dodgers. No, the Dodgers did not draft River Ryan. They traded for River Ryan. He was what the Dodgers received in exchange
from the San Diego Padres for Matt Batty. The Dodgers got this guy for Matt Batty a couple of years ago. These are some of the trades that happened that go under the radar, and all of a sudden two years later, three years later, you're saying, what Andrew Friedman pulled off that? Yeah he did. He pulled off a River Ryan trade for Matt Batty. And at the time, River Ryan was a two way player. He was a shortstop and a pitcher. And when the Dodgers acquired him from the Padres,
they said, Anstan, you are going to be a pitcher. And that's what he's been focusing on. And tonight was part of the fruits of his labor to make his major league debut. And he had a lot of family and friends at the ballpark tonight, and we saw a lot of them on the field taking pictures with him. An exciting night for River Ryan, and certainly a more exciting night when you beat Blake Snell and the San Francisco
Giants. A River did not get the winning it was not the winning picture of record, but the Dodgers win on a night he made his major league debut. Let's head downstairs right now to the Dodger Clubhouse to hear what River had to say to the media on Sports net LA. Yeah, it was great. There was definitely a lot of emotions up and downs all day. But I spent some time with the Lord earlier today I definitely prayed when I got on the mountain, helped them call my nerves. But yeah, it
was it was an experience for sure. Why did you just see your stuff play at the big league level? Oh? Man, I just tried to stick to the same approach that I've been doing all year kind of my whole career versus righty and lefties. And we talked to well for the game and prior. But yeah, we got the game planned down and just stuck to it. Having your brother, your family here, just how special was this moment for you as well as all of them. Oh it was great.
It was definitely truly a blessing to have all them make it out. Yeah. Their support has been unbelievable throughout my entire career, starting when out as little. But yeah, extremely happy that they were able to make it here. Standing ovation as you're coming off the mountain. Oh that was great. Man. It's you know, the ground starts to shake a little bit when everybody gets loud, but uh, yeah, no, that was that was
really fun to be a part of. My last week's sort of been like for you, especially going Arizona kind of knowing this might have been coming. Oh it was you know, just to stay on schedule. That's what we went to Arizona for to get ready for this outing. But yeah, going from playing in one hundred and twenty degrees to you know, seventy five eighty, your game time was was great. What's the biggest difference you notice facing
these guys compared to hitters You've never faced big league hitters. Yeahfore, the biggest difference, it's definitely gotta throw more strikes. You gotta get ahead of them. You fall behind, they're most likely going to do some damage, but you get ahead of them, you have a much better chance of getting them out. Is there a moment you know here I am moment? Uh No, not really. I just just try to stay locked in all day, get my job done, help give the chance a team to win.
All right. There's River Ryan on Sports and at LA speaking to the media in the clubhouse. He joined us on the field moments after the final out tonight where the Dodgers defeat the Giants three to two. Taoscar Hernandez drove in all three Dodger runs tonight. He has been somewhat of a revelation. I'm not sure too many Dodger fans knew how good Taoscar Hernandez was before he showed up here to Los Angeles after spending the majority of his career in Toronto and
Seattle. I have said this since May, that is maybe the best under the radar signing of this past offseason, picking up ta Oscar Hernandez to play every day, and not to mention the way the Dodger outfield has gone this year, James Outman being sent down to Oklahoma City, the injuries to Jason Hayward, where he's been in and out of the lineup, ta Oscar Hernandez has been basically the Freddie Freeman of the Dodger outfield, playing every game.
The only games that he's missed is because he had to go back to the Dominican Republic to be with his family after his grandfather passed away. So he has been a stabilizing force and has been a really good player for the Dodgers, and that's the reason why he made the All Star team. I know we talk about the home run derby, but let's not forget he was a
National League All Star this year. Ta Oscar Hernandez, now with twenty one home runs and sixty seven RBIs just a fantastic season for him, and like I said, one of the best under the radar signings, if not the best of this past offseason. Let's go out to Joe who is at Dodger Stadium tonight. Hi Joe, you're on Dodger Talk. Hey guys, how
you doing a great game? Enjoyed it, thoroughly dragged my wife out there for the win and for my birthday, made sure we stayed at the end and saying I love La, which is mandatory when we go to games. And I loved watching this kid pitch. He composed himself. I didn't see anything that looked like panic whatsoever. We go to a lot of Quakes games and Dodger games, and it was just great to watch him. I mean I I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him up there on the mound and the wind coming
against the Giants, that's even better. Immediately texted my two priss in the Bay Area and gave him a little crap that they deserve. Yeah, it was. It was great to see River Ryan perform the way he did the way he performed, not only in his major league debut, but certainly against the San Francisco Giants. He got thrown into the deep deep end. As far as being part of this Dodger Giant rivalry, eight six six two five
seventy is the phone number. Let's head over to the Giants clubhouse now to hear from Blake Snell, who, as we all know, has been a Dodger killer going back way back. Despite being taken out of the twenty twenty World Series in game six, I'm getting there. I still think he had like the better version and is still coming. I just think, I don't know, it's hard to say without giving stuff away, but I'm definitely gonna keep getting better. I feel comfortable. I feel like I have a good
mindset right now. And yeah, we'll continue to go the Spider her names will seem like it was in a little bit with you surprised. Yeah, I mean my sequences with him the whole game there not what I would have liked, but it was his day to day, so hats off to him. Good swings. All right, there's Blake Snell. Thanks to NBC Bay Area for bringing us Nell Zilla after the Dodgers beat him and the Giants tonight two. And by the way, Taoscar Hernandez was the only Dodger to have
a hit against Blake Snell's curveball. The Dodgers were zero for thirteen against Nell's curveball tonight. Taoscar Hernandez was the exception, so one for fourteen against the curveball. Everybody else did not have an answer to it, and basically nobody else had an answer besides ta Oscar Hernandez. He drove in all three Dodger runs tonight to help the Dodgers beat San Francisco three to two. Let's go out to Logan, who is at Dodgers Stadium tonight. Hi, Logan,
you're on Dodger Talk. Hey, how is it going. I mean, I just want to give a shout out to Rivers with his debut. I mean it was insane, dude, pitch out of his shoes. It was trazy Hernandez out here taking the home for us. I mean, you couldn't ask for anything better. Yeah, it was fun, Logan, thanks a lot for the phone call and the river. Ryan very composed out there.
And look, he's not a twenty year old rookie. He's He's been in the minor leagues for some time now and is a seasoned prospect in a lot of ways, and he did not pitch in uh in UH spring training this year with some shoulder issues, but he was able to get on track pretty quickly this minor league season, and the Dodgers, with the injuries they've had, desperately needed another one of their pitching prospects to come up and come up big river Ryan did it tonight. Let's go out to Frank who was at
Dodger Stadium tonight. Hi Frank, you're on Dodger Talk. Hey, how you doing. David, My first time calling in. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on Kartaija prossibly getting traded. I know we signed Will Smith to a big contract and we got all in resting as one of our top prospects. With the trade deadline loom, and I just wanted to hear your thoughts about maybe Diego Kartaia being on the move. Thanks for taking my call, all right, Frank, thanks for the phone. Yeah, there's a
possibility he would be included in a trade. He has kind of had a couple of down years. Last year was a down year, hurt his back, got into some bad habits last season, and this year the Dodgers just recently promoted him to Triple A Oklahoma City. I haven't been able to watch his games, but it's been mixed reviews. And like you said, Will Smith is not going anywhere for a while. So the Dodgers have do have some collateral to be able to trade away some of their their catching prospects,
Dalton Rushing. I was impressed by his competitiveness in spring training. That guy's got edge. I would want that guy on my team. He's a pretty good hitter as well. Eight six six ninety seven two five seventy is the phone number. Speaking of trade talk, my numbing trade talk. The Dodgers today designated for assignment James Paxton, who won his eighth game of the season yesterday, and there were a few different reasons. I was told why the
Dodgers decided today they would designate for assignment James Paxton. Now what that means is the Dodgers have seven days to either trade or just give his outright release to James Paxton, and tomorrow will be just seven days to go until the trade deadline on July thirtieth, So there's a very good chance James Paxton will be included in a trade between now and July thirtieth. Also with Tyler glassnow coming back on Wednesday Night, Clayton Kershaw coming back this week, you have
Walker Buehler on the horizon. Bobby Miller has not just been sent out to pasture in Oklahoma City. The Dodgers plan on bringing him back after he gets back on track. So James Paxton kind of was the odd man out, especially with the emergence of these rookies River Ryan, Justin Robleski, Landon Neck.
So the Dodgers starting rotation is starting to get deeper, and now they just need guys like Bueller and Bobby Miller to cooperate and be as good as the Dodgers believe they can be. Also, James Paxton really wasn't going to have a postseason spot on the roster, right, so he did his job. The Dodgers were good in allowing him to hit his bonuses in the contract that they agreed upon, and they're going to trade him. He's going to
be part of a trade between now and July thirtieth. And this is the place that I told you I was calling my shot Garrett Crochet and Randia rose Arena. I may feel a little bit more confident with a Rose Arena because I got a call today from a pretty good Major League source that told me the Orioles are putting together a big time package to present to the White Sox
for Crochet and tear Schoolble. But I find it really hard to believe the Tigers are going to trade Schooble, who's got two more years of team control. He's on his way to win the American League Cy Young Award. That just wouldn't be good for that franchise to trade them away. It just wouldn't be good. And I just don't see them doing it. But Garrett Crochet will be moved. And look, if it's not Crochet for the Dodgers, it could be Jack Flaherty of the Tigers. I've heard his name a lot
in connection with the Dodgers as well. The Dodgers are looking for an outfield
back. They could be looking to the Angels for Louis Renhifo. So there's a lot of things the Dodgers are trying to canvass here as we get closer to July thirtieth, and who knows how many teams between now and then are going to decide, you know what, Realistically, we don't have a chance to make the postseason as the final wildcard, and also we may not even have a chance to advance, so why not try to bring in some talent.
But that's where things stand right now. But as we move closer, every night on Dodger Talk, we will have your mind numbing trade talk eight six six nine, eight seven two five seventy. Let's go out to Andrew, who is at Dodgers Stadium tonight. Hi, Andrew, you're on Dodger Talk. Hey, Davebou's it going? A quick question? What about the idea of Vladimir Girrel Junior coming Clo La? He said he was He knew that baseball was a business and he could have come anywhere. I think since
MAXI month, he's not going to be back anytime soon. We need a big trade, not a small time trade, something big. Maybe him and Boba Schet come to LA. All right, Andrew, Well, I'm glad you listened to Dodger Talk because I floated out that idea a few weeks ago. But the more I talked to evaluators around the league, they don't believe third base is a realistic position for Vladimir Guerrero Junior and uh, Look, he would love to be in Los Angeles, no doubt about it, but
I don't believe that's going to happen. And as far as Max Munsey goes, Andrew, you know, there were some premature reports of his demise. Talking to Max Munsey the last couple of days, his spirits are high and he seems very optimistic. He's going to be back sooner rather than later. He didn't want to give me a timeline. He didn't want to give me details. All he would say is that he's swinging the bat and he's doing
a little bit more aggressive training on the field here. So Max Munsey's not going to be out for as long as many of you wanted to believe he was going to be out for. All Right, that's good, Let's go Dodgers. All right, Andrew, thanks for the phone call. Let's go out to Josh who was at Dodger Stadium tonight. Hi, Josh, you're on Dodger Talk. How's the going, Dave? I follow you on Twitter.
I see a lot of your tweets. I really I appreciate your inside and everything, but my first question is what I haven't the Dodgers extended to Oscar, he's been the most energetic player, energetic hitter. Yeah, he might not be the top tier star that everyone likes, but he's the energy in the locker, runner of the team. He's getting the team fired up, he's getting the hit in the whole. Why aren't we Why? What's
the what's the what's there? What's there? All? Right? Well, I know on Twitter that's what everybody's calling for, and it wouldn't be a bad idea, right The Dodgers love having Taoscar Hernandez. But if you're Taioscar Hernandez, are you going to take an extension or are you going to test free agency? And? Uh? The Dodgers obviously have the wherewithal financially to be able to match any offer. So the Dodgers are not the pirates,
they're not the Reds. They don't have to rush to extend anybody. Okay, that's that's true. But I guess okay, and then from there, what would you say, would say, for example, Taoscar, the extension is not there at the moment. What's the move that you think the Dodgers should make right now at the deadline that will improve them to be the favorite for the World Series right now? What would you say is your opinion what they should go for at the deadline? Hey, I would go for starting
pitching. I don't know who that is, but starting pitching would be who I'd go for. And I like what they're thinking going after and outfield bat because they need a little bit more stability and production in the bottom third of their order. And if you add a Randia Rose Arena or a Tommy fam somebody like that. Ay, they bring swagger and edge. I feel like
the Dodgers are too nice of a team. And b they bring in some production to lengthen your lineup and allow you to platoon Pahz and Hayward in right field and center field. And thank you and the way you explained about the Dodgers being too nice of a team, I have agreed with that. And one thing I would say is, well, who based on starting pitching and based on how would you feel about lux and Barghas as much as they have been productive in the recent days, what are they Are they more on trade
value? Are they more on Dodgers as like they've been productive, so we want to keep them? What's your opinion on that? Would you be willing to trade Lux and Vargas in a package for a star starting pitcher or star starting outfielder or are they been productive? We want to keep them for the long run. Hopefully they keep the momentumorm. I would have to see the trade. I would have to see the trade. I like both those guys. Thanks for the phone call, Josh, appreciate it. Eight six six
nine eight seven two five seventy. Hey, speaking of trades, don't you believe the Giants need to be sellers? They are five games under five hundred now they are fading fast. I know Dodgers and Giants don't make a lot of trades, and certainly impact trades. But you know, at this point in time and at this juncture, uh, don't the Giants have to listen
to every team and every offer. If Blake Snell is available, why wouldn't the Giants listen to an offer from the Dodgers, who have got more talent in their system an organization than any other team this side of the Baltimore Orioles. He's healthy now. He had a perfect game going into the seventh inning before the All Star break. He pitched great here tonight. We all know he pitches great at Dodgers Stadium. We all know he's a playoff pitcher.
The Giants are selling, don't they owe it to at least listen to what the Dodgers offer is for a guy like Blake's. NOEW eight six six nine seven two five seventy is the phone number. We're gonna take a time out here on Dodger Talk. When we come back, Jose Moto will check in and also will give away that pair of tickets for Wednesday Night's game on Key
K Hernandez Bobblehead Night. As Dodger Talk rolls on from the stadium, the Dodgers win their fourth in a row, beating San Francisco three to two on a five to seventy LA Sports on air at AM five to seventy, online at amfive seventy LA sports dot com, and podcast on the iHeartRadio app. This is Dodger Talk with David Bass saying is their fifty six win of the
year. That's as many as they had all of twenty twenty three. As Hernandez lifts off to left field, he can watch it fly halfway up the pavilion, right next to the Dodger bullpen, and we are all tied up. It was ta Oscar Hernandez's night tail three Giants two Tascar Hernandez drove in all three Dodger runs tonight as the Dodgers defeat San Francisco three to two and win their fourth in a row. Blake Trinon the winning pitcher and Daniel Hudson
with his seventh save of the season. This is Dodger Talk. We're with you until eleven o'clock tonight. Right here on AM five to seventy LA sports still to come. You will hear Brad Paisley, William Shatner, and Clayton Kershaw talk shop on the field before today's game. Daniels Jewelers is the official sponsor of the Trip around the Diamond. Stop by any Daniel's location and say home run for your free team bracelet and fifty dollars gift card toward any purchase
of ninety nine dollars or more. Daniel's Jewelers own the Dream. All right, I have a pair of tickets to give away for Wednesday Night's game against the Giants. Tyler Glass now will be back on the mound and it's keithk Hernandez bobblehead night. So in honor of Key K's new number with the Dodgers, number eight caller number eight, eight sixty six nine eight seven two five seventy, you will win a pair of those tickets to Wednesday Night's game on
Key K's bobblehead Night. Let's go out to Jose Moda. It's tough to go around the horn with Jose Mota, all right, Jose Mota. The Dodgers beat the Giants. That's always sweet. But it was impressive to see River Ryan do his thing in his major league debut. This kid has a statue out there on the mound that you know, tells you I'm a big,
big picture and I think that I belong. And I'm not saying he was cocky or arrogant, but I think he has that swagger that says I'm not afraid of his own and so good to hear him, you know, in his face and talk about you know, how humble he sounds, and they be able to, you know, kind of calm things down, sload the game down. You know, sixteen pitches in the first thing they did went nine to eight, and then when he saw the leadoff walk in the
fourteen was going to become more of an issue. He found a way again to put his defense to work. So he found out very quickly here Dave, that he throws strikes at this level, and you know, guys will make mistakes, but more times than not, you saw some very outstanding plays behind him. So that encourages young pitchers to not have to force himselves to think I got to go out there to strike people out, because the defense
and the big leagues obviously yourself to a new level for him. Jose Mota Taascar Hernandez has had more at bats with runners on base than any other Dodger this season, a hundred and eighty four at bats and he's hitting two sixty
six. He drove in all three Dodger runs tonight. Is there any more valuable signing by any team this past offseason than Taoscar Hernandez for the Dodgers, Oh my goodness, I don't think so, because on top of all this you add the fact that he was able to get the one year deal. He is a presence in the clubhouse. He's a presence in your lineup.
He's just a guy that wants to play every single day. And remember the whole talk when they sign Hernandez. Was this clarify this now, Oh, he's so great against lefties in other words, like, well, he doesn't have a presience against righty too. This guy's won, you know, silvers luggers. He's been an All Star, He's had a Hunter Robbias before. He's hit thirty home runs before. So he's more of a complete player. Four y. Yes, they're just swinging miss and there's part of the game
right now too. But what I think about ti Oscar is the drills that he does are pretty much concerned and the effort is put into at bats like tonight, David. He has these rules that he's brought himself, as I was sold by hitting coaches, that he puts himself in a mental state of saying, Okay, now, I'm not a home run hitter. I'm a singles hitter. And we see it when he puts it into practice. It's just wonderful to watch. He usually uses the other part of the field.
He's it in Detroit and Toguezl goes up the middle a couple of times with boy in terms of signing and scouting and making sure that you offer the right package too, because I mean, he could have gone somewhere for a couple of years, but he said, for that type of package, I'm gone to LA And sort of he knows his family's going to be taking care of for many years too by the Dodgers. Yeah, and a lot of fans now are saying, extend ta Oscar Hernandez. Now, So I guess he's
won over the fans. Well, he's done it because the way he plays in his charisma too, and they know all that attitude, production and the fact that he's been a great citizen for the team and a great clubhouse president. The fans they pay attention and they know too. So if you're his agent, what do you do here? He's so happy playing in La.
If you Andrew Freatman, what do you do here too? But also you know that there's so many teams craving for some but he liked that in the open market, and for sure he putting himself in a very good position here and also outside of here. All right, Jose, thanks for checking in nine innings tonight with Steven Nelson. Great as always, and we'll see you at the ballpark tomorrow. Fun times be well. All right, there he goes Jose Mota Part of the Dodgers radio broadcast Spanish and English. One of
the more versatile guys out there. We're lucky to have him. Great to have Jose Mota alongside Steven Nelson for this game tonight, and Jose is filling in for Rick Monday. Rick is perfectly fine. He's back in Vero Beach and joined family, and he will rejoin us in Houston for the upcoming road trip and we'll not look back after that. Eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. We have a winner caller number eight.
Misty Intomechula. You are going to Wednesday night's game, Keithy Hernandez bobblehead night. Congratulations, I'm so excited. Thank you? Oh yeah, do you like the way they've have You seen the babblehead and what they're doing. It's the celebration the Dodgers do. It's a celebration. Yeah. Absolutely, kind of a friend of you with the little twist going on, that's right, that's right. Is KEYK your favorite player? You know what I would say? He is. We love K, but I love all the Dodgers.
So we're so excited, so excited to see him back awesome. You'll see him on Wednesday night courtesy of who Else and five seventy LA Sports. Misty. Congratulations, all right, thank you so much. I have a great night, you too. Congratulations. Misty. Will see out there on Wednesday night, and we will have more tickets to give away tomorrow night.
On Dodger Talk as well. Now, I mentioned that the Giants probably need to do their due diligence and listen to the Dodgers if they have an offer for Blake's now, but that's not going to be easy, as you know, and the Dodgers and Giants don't make a lot of trades. In fact, thanks to our producer engineer Dwayne McDonald, he actually looked up how many times the Dodgers and Giants have made a trade since both franchises moved to California.
Can you believe the Dodgers and Giants have only made trades three times since the franchises moved out West. The last time the Dodgers and Giants made a trade was back in two thousand and seven, the Dodgers acquired the beautiful bald head of Mark Sweeney for a player named Travis Danker. Before that, it was all the way back in nineteen eighty five when the Dodgers traded one of my favorites, Candy Maldonado, an outfielder, power hitting outfielder, for a
backup catcher named Alex Trevino. And you have to go all the way back to nineteen sixty eight for the third trade that made since moving out West, I unfortunately had never heard of these players, Ron Hunt and Nate Oliver for Tom Haller and uh some other player that I can't even pronounce his name. So basically the point is, the Dodgers and Giants don't make a lot of trades, so it would be a long shot for the Dodgers and Giants to
pull off a trade for Blake Snell. But obviously farhan Ziety and Andrew Friedman have a close relationship. The Giants are in a weird spot of the Giants have not really done well since twenty twenty one, so an interesting time for far han Ziety and the Giants as they fall five games under five hundred eight six six nine seven two five seventy is the phone number. Let's take a couple of more calls. Ray, who is at Dodgers Stadium tonight? You're
on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Raydyd I'm doing great, man, Thanks for taking my call. I'm originally from here. I live out in Passa. Now listen to you guys on I Heart Radio. Non. I appreciate all your insight and everything that I get out there from being able to keep in touch with the Dodgers the whole time without the game to night, it was a great win. It was a Tayo night. I saw Tawny, you know, he was giving out the cap and you know he was
pressing a little bit. It seemed like at the plate tonight. But with all that being said, the game got worn down towards the end. You know, when Blake Trining came in, they shut the lights down and everything was looking like a closer was coming in, you know, and Blake did his job. And then when David Hudson came in, our Danny Hudson came in, then the lights went down again. I'm thinking, you know what, I remember back to when Kenny was there, we had the California love,
and I remember back to when Eric ganya. I know I'm going way back now, but do you know, is there any say so as to like who the closer is going to be have they decided I want Are we still kind of fishing around for that right now? Well, Evan Phillips hasn't been effective lately, so they got to get him back on track. You couldn't throw him back out there in the ninth inning in a one run game.
So that's the luxury of what the Dodgers have. They have Danielie Hudson and Blake Tryning and Evan Phillips. All three of those guys can get outs. But the Dodgers, going back to when Blake trying to join the Dodgers, they feel like he's more valuable being used in any inning where there might be a situation to use him outside of the ninth inning, And Daniel Hudson and Evan Phillips were going to share the ninth inning. So that's what's going
on right now. There is no Kenley Jansen, there is no Eric Gannie on the roster right now. But as we talk about trades, the Marlins are going to trade their closer, Tanner Scott. So if that happened, then those guys would be free to move around different parts of the game.
And I see that, and I hear you. I don't mind either Trying or Daniel Hudson or being the closer, because they come in with that imposing force of their fastball, and they're movement on their balls that come down, that slider, the trying and throws, and just the way they look up there on the mound, and I think they can definitely do the job. Alex Becia came in one time again tonight. You know, I thought he could have gone another inning, only gone going to two batters and striking them
both out. The other thing I wanted to ask you, hold on, hold up, hold up. You got to remember, and I mentioned this to a caller last night, it's not just about tonight. It's a game in July against the Giants, which is important. You want the Dodgers to start stringing together a long winning streak. But it's not just about tonight. For Dave Roberts managing Ray, it's about yesterday, it's about today, it's about tomorrow, it's about two days from now. So you have to take
that into consideration. You can't just pitch these guys into the ground. No, I totally agree. I totally agree. And you hit it right the nail out of the head as fans, we see, we want this one, we want the moment, we want them now, and you're right, we're only in July. We still got August and September to go. And
I totally hear you on that, David, one hundred percent correct. And the other thing I wanted to say was that I heard that Miguel Vargas that his original position was third base, and I see is trying guys at third base and to find that right guy to wherever, either months he comes back or does it, is Miguel Vargas gonna get a shot there because I think he can actually do a job, because he seems like he's you know, paid his dues, trying to turn himself into a you know, he's gonna
do a great job tonight in left field. But does he look like he's gonna get a shot at third base? I don't know. It depends on when Max months he's coming back. It looks like he's coming back soon, Ray, so he's taking ground balls there. We'll see where it goes. Thanks for the phone call, appreciated. And look, Miguel Vargas was moved off a third base for a reason, right, so they moved him around trying to find a position. They like his bat and that's why they tried
him at second base last year. Now they're trying him in left field. Sometimes it could be a little dicey out there because he's not an outfielder, so they're trying to find a position for him, and right now it's left field. All right. Before we say good night, to want to share with you a fun conversation we had before the game with a very loyal Dodger fan, Brad Paisley, who brought out one of the all time Hollywood stars, William Shatner, to the Dodger game tonight. Shatner out at Dodger Stadium
for the first time in what I would imagine a very long time. He's now ninety three years young, he's in great shape, sharp as attack, and Brad Paisley brought Shatner out not only to meet Clayton Kershaw, but Brad Paisley wanted William Shatner on Dodger Talk. So here it is all right, I'm here with my only listener to Dodger Talk, the one and only Brad Paisley, who has brought his great father, the great people of Melissa's who are always here, Joe and Sharon, his right hand man Kendall, and
many others. Brad, you've brought me over to be introduced to one of the great Hollywood stars of our generation. Would you mind a explaining why do you want to introduce me? Are you worried that this may ruin your relationship? Now? I'm figuring in this case that this is a man that can bring luck and inspiration to this field. This is this is my hero. This is a guy who has not only pretended to be in space, He's been to space. So I'm thrilled to actually finally get him down here on
the field. This is William Shatner. Mister Shatner, I am boldly going where many have gone, well not that many, always room for one more to go. I'm gonna tell you the game is gonna be wonderful. I'm wearing an Otany hat and I'm really looking forward to And I'm from Montreal. The Dodgers were the Montreal Royals were the farm team for the Dodgers when they were in New York. So I've been around baseball a lot, but I have forgotten or else this arena is. It's almost touchable. It's almost tactile.
It's so visual, so many colors, so many people watching the warm ups. It's just it's fantastic. People should see more of this than they do of the game. It's so interesting. I'm watching a father with a baby that's under a year and he's giving the baby a ball, and the kid is throwing a ball and is throwing a fit when somebody else has the ball. Hey, did you ever play in the Hollywood Stars game at Dodger Stadium? I played everywhere when ABC had whatever, the Sports Stars or whatever
it was, the Battle of the Stars. I did them all all the time. Yeah, that's amazing. And you'll be out here at Dodger Stadium and enjoying, and you're about to meet one of the greatest pictures of our generation, a great person, the one and only Clayton Kershaw. I followed him, first of all. He's such a good looking, magnetic guy. You wouldn't even have to pitch, you could just walk around. Your eyesight's going. That's why I'm wearing glasses. No, it's a pleasure to miss
you. I've followed you a lot. You're a great athlete. Sorry you had to do an interview with Dave on your first day down here, Well leave it here, you have some alone time. Thanks a lot for coming out here and always great to have you here. Damn it, Jim. I'm only a broadcaster, and you're a good broadcaster, and stay a broadcaster. Thanks. Brad Paisley. I hope I haven't ruined your entire friendship with all these people. We'll see, I'll let you know, all right.
There was a fun time with Brad Paisley, William Shatner, and Clayton Kershaw before today's game only in LA for sure. Awesome. I mean, come on, I grew up watching William Shatner. I was not alive, by the way, when Star Trek was airing. I used to see the reruns growing up, and who could forget TJ Hooker with Heather Lockley and William Shatner running around in LAPD uniforms in the eighties. So awesome to meet William Shatner. Brad Paisley is too kind. I am shocked that he trots me out
like this and meets his famous friends. It's very awkward for me, and I act even more awkward around these people. But Brad's a great guy and one of the more down the earth people you meet. So if you ever see Brad Paisley, don't be intimidated. He is the man, one of the great musicians of our time. So thank you to Brad for introducing us to William Shatner and giving us some time to put him on the show as well. All Right, that'll do it for us on Dodger Talk Tonight.
