Dodger Talk is sponsored by La Care Health Plan, providing affordable healthcare insurance to millions of Angelinos for over twenty five years. And now your voice for Dodger Talking like back, David Basse. Welcome to Dodger Talk. David Vase with you until the top of the hour, taking your phone calls at eight sixty

six nine eight seven two five seventy. After the Dodgers snapped their four game losing streak with a four to three win over Trek's schoolbol and the Tigers tonight at Comerica Park, eight six six nine eight seven two five seventy is the phone number. This was a huge win for the Dodgers. Number One, they snapped their four game losing streak. If they would have lost tonight, it would have tied the season long losing streak of the season at five games.

And when you have Trek Schoolball on the mound in his home ballpark, where his ERA is barely over one, you're figuring it's going to be a tough night. Maybe your best chance is to get school Ball's pitch count up and get him out of the game. And that's exactly what the Dodgers did

tonight. He threw a season high one hundred and one pitches tonight. The Dodgers got him out after six innings, and it looked like it was gonna be one of those games for the Dodgers offense because school Ball was cruising until one out in the fourth inning when Freddy Freeman shocked him in forty two thousand plus at Kamerica Park with a home run to give the Dodgers their first hit of the game and their first run of the game, and all of a

sudden, it was three to one. By the end of the fourth inning, it was three to two, and the Dodgers continued to work Schooble's pitch count, got him out of the game and got to that Tiger's bullpen. And for the Dodgers, it was nervous time as well, because we know how precarious of a situation it is with their starting rotation. Another disappointing start from a Dodgers starter tonight, James Paxton only goes three and two thirds innings.

Dave Roberts has to go to his bullpen with two outs in the fourth inning. Johann Ramirez comes in for an inning and a third. Evan Phillips was used in a game the Dodgers were down a run in the sixth inning and then he goes to Blake Trinon Michael Peterson, who ends up getting the win, and Daniel Hudson basically the last relievers the Dodgers had unless they're going to Ricky Venasko in extra innings, and Daniel Hudson walked to in the ninth

inning, but he was able to wiggle himself out of it. So this was a huge win on so many levels for the Dodgers, or they're looking at a five game losing streak and a little more pressure the last two games in Detroit with a rookie on the mound for them tomorrow and Justin Robleski and a bullpen game on Sunday. So this was a big win in a lot of ways. And not surprisingly, we have a huge hole on our phone board tonight after a Dodgers win. How many calls do we have Colin the

much? Yeah, not surprising after we could have taken phone calls for two hours after the Dodgers were swept in Philadelphia. If you called the last three nights, you better call tonight. At age six six nine, eight, seven, two five seventy coming up later in the show. I have a trade idea that isn't unrealistic to be able to entice the Tigers to trade tonight's starter, Trek Scouble to La. A big game for Dave Roberts as well.

He pushed all the right buttons from his relievers to going to the challenges at the right point in time. And also the chess match with aj Hinch in the eighth inning in Miguel Vargas's spot, where Dave went to the left

hander Autman, aj Hinch brought the lefty. Then he decided to go to Austin Barnes, who delivered for him the OG twenty seventeen Dodgers Chris Taylor and Austin Barnes runners at the corners when Shoe a Otani hit his go ahead double to give the Dodgers their first lead since last Saturday at Dodgers Stadium against the Brewers. Let's head back out to Detroit to hear from manager Dave Roberts performed

incredibly well. You saw the fight that we talked about. You know, you're going against a really good pitcher and school ball and for us to hang in there and I give the bullpen a ton of credit for picking up you know, six innings or whatever it was five plus, and they did a tremendous shop, you know, just hanging in there, getting taken good at bats when we needed to shoot in the four hole, whether it's Tao or ct Austin coming off the bench, getting a hit for us, show hey,

coming up big when we needed them most. And you know, Freddie taking a really good at bat against the lefty. So across the board we made. We've got the hits that we were hoping for, you know, and it just comes with just the fight that I know we have. James, what did you see that was just missing for him or that allowed for

some of those walks. Really, it's something we talked about. It's just the commanding of the baseball, you know, when the stuff is not as lifey as it's been in the past, you know, ninety four ninety five with the fastball, you've got to have command, and tonight he was, you know with the walks, and for me, there just wasn't a whole lot of swing and miss and a right hand heavy hitting lineup. I just felt that and after getting a ball hit off of his hamstring, the inner

part his hamsterring. I just felt that, you know where we're at right now and how things have been going, you've got to try to manage to minimize as many runs as you possibly can to keep the game close, and certainly going against a guy like Schoogle. So that's kind of my thought behind it. All. Right, there's manager Dave Roberts, who had a great game tonight. Obviously he does not have the full compliment of players to be able to go to until they get some of these players back from injuries.

And obviously the Dodger pitching staff has not been as great as it was maybe at the beginning of the season, so Dave has had to be a little bit more nimble and maybe have a shorter leash with some of these starters than he's had earlier in the season. And James Paxton did not look like himself tonight. The four walks was one thing, But the other part of this

equation you heard Dave Roberts mention it was the life on his fastball. His fastball average tonight was ninety one miles an hour on the season, ninety three, so he saw something there that did not jive with what was going to be a winning recipe, and he wanted to keep the game right there, especially when you have school ball on the mound. Eight six six nine seven two five seventy is the phone number. Let's go out to the phones for

the first time tonight, Ontario, Eddie, you're on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Eddie? Pretty guy? You do it great? What do you got? That's the biggest Dodger at the garbage fan, you know, Robert Tayter say, But tonight, though, I gotta think he did an awesome job. Stant totoedel with an eighth you know, you know that's the greatest gay of the world. But love BENI today they did great. So

I want to call it that seems like a backhanded compliment. Yeah, well yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of his, but okay, you know I have been when I'm wrong, and that he did finally, did avidate? Finally? All right? All right, Eddie, thanks a lot for the phone call. I guess I'm sure Dave Roberts would love to hear that compliment. Resounding endorsement from Eddie and Ontario tonight. Look, if you're going to put the blame at Dave Roberts. You better give him credit on nights

like tonight. And I appreciate that, Eddie, even though it was begrudgingly to give him the credit he deserves. And look, Dave Roberts only has the players that he has at his disposal. There's not much more he can do with players that are not on the bench or not producing or in the minor leagues. This is who he has to work with. And I feel like, going back to last year, Dave Roberts has done a really good managing job the last few years for the Dodgers. Eight six six seven,

two five seventy is the phone number. Let's go out to Mission Hills. Edward, You're on Dodger Talk with David vasse Hi. Edward, Hey as going, Dave, what a release that'd be won today? Honestly, the past few days, I believe the Dodgers lost the game themselves. You know you mentioned the beginning of the season the Dodgers will beat themselves in use games like that. So really that we want it's in the books we have at W I have a question for you. You know everyone's looking on the for

the trade deadline, big on big time pitchers. Why isn't no one talking about example, Tyler Anderson. Someone can give you innings, someone that can at least, you know, get you to Police seven or Jack. They're not who the Dodgers need. Edward. Tyler Anderson's been solid with the Angels. But I've been told by executives around Major League Baseball, if you start to dive deeper into his season, it's not as appealing as the numbers on the surface suggest. He's not. He's a guy on the margins. The

Dodgers need a schoo ball, they need a crochet. They need maybe even a Chris Bassett or Nathan Vivaldi, not a Tyler Anderson. Okay, yeah, good point. But you know what, I think there's more sellers deadline, and I think the price that's huge this season night. That's what I think. All right, thank you for the phone call, Edward. I'll say this right now. I'll put this on the table right now. Sin So, we had a caller dive us into my numbing trade talk, and

the trade deadline is coming up on July thirtieth. I know it sounds crazy to believe the Tigers would trade Trek Scooble. He is one of the best starters in baseball this year. He is one of the leading candidates to win the American League Cy Young Award, no doubt about it. But the facts are the Tigers probably are not going to re sign him in two years. He has two more years of team control. They also have a shortstop who

made an error tonight in Javier Baias. I'm sure the Tigers would love to get from out of that Bias contract, which has three more years left close to eighty million dollars. Remember back in twenty twelve when Neck Coletti pulled off the biggest trade the Dodgers were able to pull off in the month of August and really got this thing rolling back in twenty twelve, No, not handling Ramirez for Nathan Valdi, Adrian Gonzalez, Nick Punto Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett

for Ruby. De la Rosa forgot Alan Webster and also James Loney went back to Boston in that trade. The way the Dodgers were able to entice Boston to make that trade was to take off their hands the huge contract remaining for

Carl Crawford and the two years remaining on Josh Beckett. Similar situation here would the Tigers be enticed to get rid of a horrible contract in Javier Biaz and the Dodgers don't have to give up as many prospects for Trek Skoubel if they included Javier Biaz and his three years and seventy five eighty million dollars left on his contract. If I'm the Tigers, I give that serious consideration. That's the way you pull off blockbuster trades. Ned Coletti did it in twenty twelve.

Let's see if the Tigers would take the plan from the Red Sox and make a trade with the Dodgers in the same vein. What do you think? Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number. I've come up with creative ideas, and this is the latest brainchild that I believe would have some legs if the Dodgers and Tigers started to dive into this. Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number.

Dodgers snapped their four game losing streak against the Tigers tonight or four game losing streak overall, by beating the Tigers tonight four to three. We're gonna take a time out here on Dodger Talk. When we come back, your phone calls eight six six, nine eighty seven, two seventy. I had to

shame you into calling tonight. Full boarder calls. When we return. After the Dodgers beat Detroit four to three on a five to seventy LA sports, Dodger Talk is available on AM five seventy LA sports dot com, hand on the iHeartRadio app. Back to more Dodger Talk with Dodger insiger David vassiamps this one deep to right, Fia going back. This ball is gone a home run. Freddie Freeman has hit his fourteenth home run of a season that gets

the Dodgers on the board. It is three to one. Freddie Freeman with a big game tonight. He showed the Dodgers Tariff school Ball was human in the fourth inning as Freddy gave the Dodgers their first hit and their first run

hitting that home run off of school Bowl. And then in the eighth inning he set the table for Teoscar Hernandez to be able to tie the game at three, and from there Austin Barnes Chris Taylor, the OG twenty seventeen Dodgers set the table for show Hey o'tani with the go ahead double four hundred and twelve feet away to center field to give the Dodgers their first lead since Saturday, and the Dodgers get their first wins since Saturday, beating the Tigers tonight

at Comerica Park four to three. Daniels Jewelers they are the official sponsor of the trip around the Diamond. Stop I any Daniel's location and say home run for your free team bracelet and fifty dollars gift card toward any purchase of ninety nine dollars or more. Daniel's Jewelers own the dream. Not only do I want the Dodgers to win this series, but I want the Dodgers to trade for their ace. We saw tonight a front row to two of the biggest

trade targets in baseball. The Dodgers have seen Garrett Crochet this year, they have seen Trek's Google and I thought that this makes a lot of sense for the Tigers and for the Dodgers. If the Dodgers want to pry away Trek Scouble from Detroit, they better be willing to take on the massive contract of Javier Baiaz three years, seventy five eighty million dollars left on that contract, one of the worst contracts handed out by any team the last ten fifteen years,

Almost as bad as the contract the Red Sox gave our good buddy Carl Crawford, and who took that contract and freed the Red Sox of Carl Crawford's big contract? It was your Los Angeles Dodgers. How many teams out there can take on that financial burden? And if Bayaz doesn't mix with the Dodgers in the clubhouse this year, next year, they can cut him loose. Trust me, they can afford to absorb eighty million dollars if it means getting

Trek Schouba and helping you win the World Series. Who says no? Eight six six nine, eight seven, two five seventy. Let's go out till Gilberto in San Diego? Are you in Chula Vista, Gilberto and Adrian Gonzalez neighborhood? Where are you at, Gilberto? I'm by North Park in San Diego right now? All right, all right, nice neighborhood. David, Okay, come with as David. How are you feeling today? Much better? Gilberto Tranquilo Okay, we talked about it yesterday and you asked me to

lit up a candle. I thought I told you I would do it last night, but instead of a candle, I lit up a plane thrower. Okay, and I love the courage they show today. And it's a long season. It's a lone season, and they're gonna be fine. I like your trade on. I do like the trade because Heavy Bas, even though he's not hitting right now, coming to the Todgers, he may remember again how to hit. He might be able to remember how to hit, but he can also play defense. And look, it's not about Javier Bias.

It's about trying to entice the Tigers to trade Trek Scouble. Bias is just a necessary means to be able to acquire Schooble. It's not about Bias. Bias could be released the day after as far as I'm concerned. It's about finding a way to not give up the farm and also being able to pry away one of the best starters. Could you imagine Schooble starting Game one of any playoff series for the Dodgers, Gilberto, you have Schooball, then you

have Glass now maybe Kershaw and Gavin Stone. That changes the playoff dynamics quite a bit, definitely, and I hope they do something like that, and that is a good option that you brought up. Listen, hey, muchas Gracias Gerberto. I'm smart, I know what I'm doing here. Hold on, do you want to copy of Tom Hopefar's compilation Perfect Eloquence, A tribute to Vince Scully. I love that, David. I really would love that because I grew up with Vin Scaley. Okay, I love it. Thank

you for lighting that candle for the Dodgers or that flamethrower. Appreciate it. Eight sixty six seven two five seventy is the phone number. Let's go out to WOW nine oh two one oh Beverly Hills. Michael, you're on Dodger Talk. How you doing, Michael, I'm good, Dave, thank you for having me this evening. Are you calling from the peach pit? No, I'm not. I'm not, okay. I want to talk about how spoil Dodger fans are. I think I'm the only one of my friend group

that is still on the Dave Roberts train. You know, I've seen him pinch hit many times for Austin Barnes, and Austin Barnes won't come up with a hit. But tonight, of course the move of that with pulling Dave, with pulling Austin Barnes off the bench, burning James Albman, he gets a big hit and all the Dodger fans are quiet, not giving Dave Roberts a pat on the back. I'm a huge Dave Roberts fan and I think you are too, and I just don't think he gets tough credits. Yeah.

Look, I covered Phil Jackson when he coached the Lakers both times, Michael and Phil Jackson is a Hall of Fame coach, we know the resume, a eleven time world champion coach, but he wasn't above being asked the questions of why he decided to do this or that. He wasn't above it, and he actually handled those questions with a lot of dignity and humility and was not offended when you asked him that or if you criticized him on that

on a certain coaching decision, and same thing. I may have a question on why Dave Roberts made a certain pitching move or why he chose or chose not to pinch hit or bunt or something like that, but that doesn't mean I don't believe Dave Roberts isn't the right guy for this Dodger organization. I do believe he's the right guy, but that doesn't mean he's above questioning. And I'm sorry if he takes offense to it. Yeah, I don't think he takes offense to it. But you look at all these talented teams,

to look at the Braves and they're struggling this year. You look at all these talented teams, and we win the NLS every single year, and it just feels like Dodger fans are really spoiled. And You've got some great teams, talented teams that failed to make the playoffs every year, and it seems like we're right there every single year. So and I think a lot of that is to do with Dave Roberts. All right, Michael, thanks for the phone call. Appreciate it. Eight six six nine eighty seven two five

seventy is the phone number. I love the urgency Dave Roberts managed with tonight, taking James Paxton out of the game and the fourth inning with two outs, he saw he had no life on his fastball, the velocity was down. It just didn't look good. For Paxton, who walked four in three and two thirds innings. I love the urgency Dave managed with. I believe it sent a message to his team that, hey, I want to win this game. Even with Trek Scooble on the mound, I believe we can

come back and win this game. And that's when he went to his bullpen. He also managed with urgency in some ways bringing Evan Phillipson to the sixth inning that said a lot as well. That was outside of the outside of the box. So Dave Roberts did a great job pushing the buttons tonight and certainly deserves credit because when things don't go the way you want them to, you're the first one to call in and point the finger at Dave Roberts.

And the players have to play. The players have to execute if one of those relievers blinks. Obviously we're not talking about a Dodger win. But let's not forget these are the Tigers. I know they've been playing better lately, but that's not the Phillies lineup, and those relievers should be able to put up zeros like they did tonight. Let's go out to Mike and Burbank and I will say one other thing. Mistakes did not add up on the Dodgers

tonight. No matter how good or bad of a team, you're playing the mistakes the Dodgers made in Philadelphia, you are not going to beat anybody. You're not even going to beat the Sisters of Mercy, as the Great Chickern would say. With the mistakes the Dodgers made in the field, on the bases, in the batter's box, you're not going to win. And tonight they were. They played cleaner baseball than what we've seen since last Saturday. Frankly at Dodgers Stadium. Let's go out to Burbank. Mike, you're on

Dodger Talk. How you doing, Mike Good? Dave normally on Mike riverside, but I gotta go where the work is. Hey, Burbank's a great player. Yeah, Hey, great two out hitting tonight as well. You know that's something we haven't team. But hey, just a question. When Mookie comes back and they're saying Rookie and Rojas for now will be the infilled, what do you do with Gavin Lucks He's the odd man out. Sorry, Mike, He's I'm sorry, you know I like Gavin personally, but

when Mookie Beds comes back, Gavin Lux is the odd man out. Mookie Bets is going to second, Miguel Rojas is going to be the Dodgers shortstop in October, and Gavin Lux, if he's on this roster after July thirtieth, he is going to be a bench player. Mike, that's just the facts. I agree, we're well past the halfway point here. He has almost what two hundred plate appearances. The Dodgers cannot wait for Gavin Lux any longer, and his ninth inning at bat left a lot to be desired tonight

as well. Yeah, and one more, any updates on Yamamoto? You know? Yeah, I have updates on Yamamoto. Joe Kelly and Bruce Star Gretorol Mike Yamamoto, according to Dave Roberts, started playing catch from sixty feet. He's not coming back until August at the earliest. Mike. So, so at least he's moving the arm around. I wouldn't hold your breath, but at least he's throwing the baseball. Awesome, all right, Mike,

thanks for the phone call. Yeah, Joe Kelly, Dave Roberts confirm should be back for the first series after the All Star Break against his former team, the Boston Red Sox. And look, I wasn't counting on Bruce Star Gretarol coming back this year, but Dave Roberts said he is trending towards a

rehab assignment here very shortly. So if the Dodgers can get Gretarol back and Joe Kelly and at some point Ryan Brazier, that certainly would help this bullpen depth that has been severely tested with starters only going four or five innings recently. Eight six, nine, eight seven, two five seventy is the phone

number. The Dodgers come from behind and beat the Tigers tonight four to three in front of forty two thousand and sixty at Comerica Park, And look, this was a big win for the Dodgers, not only to snap a four game losing streak, But the facts are as we talked about in Philadelphia, the Dodgers starting pitching is extremely thin. Tomorrow they have Justin Robleski making his second career major league start, and on Sunday they have a bullpen game,

and today was basically a bullpen game. So if they lose this one, there's a lot of pressure, and you're climbing a big mountain with a rookie on the mount tomorrow and also a bullpen game on Sunday. But the Dodger Bats need to come alive to get some early runs because they've been playing behind for the last week. Tonight, their first lead since last Saturday came in the ninth inning, and that was the final score, four to three tonight

in Detroit. Let's go to a mission via Ho Brad. You're on Dodger Talk. Hi, Brad, Hi, thanks for taking my call. Yeah, a question of the runs allowed improved a little bit, he er. It's nice to see that because when you were saying the other night that over the last eight ten games they had given up like fifty runs or something forty four in their last forty five innings for starters after that first game in Philly, right, Yeah, and then going back to the San Francisco finale.

Yeah, in fact, that's got to improve, you know, all pitchers giving up the total of even like more than fifty runs. I was also curious. The All Star Game is coming up Tuesday, and just like you said a few minutes ago, they were well past the halfway point. Why do you think that is that it's not more like eighty one games in an eighty one games on the other side, No idea, Brad. They just

feel like that's the perfect time. That's why I go back and forth when I say the halfway point, because we are past the halfway point for the Dodgers. It's not the eighty first game on Sunday for the Dodgers. Tonight was their ninety fifth game of the year. So yeah, it's just the Midsummer Classic. It's right in the middle of summer. Brad. Thanks for the phone call. Let's go out to San Diego. Robin. You're on Dodger Talk. Hi, Robin, Hey David, how are you doing doing

good? Hey? My first question, I want to really give you an appreciation for your growth as in an announcer. You've really come a long ways in the last four or five years. Man, you really thank you. Robin an excellent observer of the Dodgers in baseball. I appreciate that. Weird, We're all trying to get better every day in our life and in our jobs, so I appreciate that you've You've definitely climbed a good hill. Laddie

book. But anyhow, It's my real question. Who do you feel the Dodgers will give up to, like Detroit for like this guy's sober or whatever the guy's name is. I mean, you got to get you know, they're they're in a pinch. I mean, like you say, they they're pitching is pretty pathetic. And they're gonna have to give up somebody. And who are they going to give up? Do you think to give somebody? They will have to give up somebody. They will have to give up multiple

prospects to be able to get Trek Scoogle from the Tigers. But if you take on Javier Bias's contract, it won't be the premium package if you don't take him and his contract on. And like I said, the best comparison I can use is when Neck Coletti pulled off that trade with the Red Sox that brought Adrian Gonzalez, who was the player the Dodgers wanted. But so they didn't have to give up the entire farm and only give up two suspects and Ruby de la Rosa and Alan Webster, they took on the contracts of

Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett. Crawford especially, so that's why I'm saying you have to take on a Javier Bias to lessen the blow in that department. Yeah, I agree with you, But I mean, at the same time, they're going to have to give up somebody on that always have to to get something. You have to give something, no doubt about it, Robin. But the Dodgers have a lot of good pitching prospects, names that we

don't even know about, and lo that other teams have been scouting. So for you to put me on the spot and tell you who exactly the Tigers want, I don't know what their needs are. I don't know who they're looking at. But obviously some of these blue Chippers, one of these Dodger catchers behind Will Smith, will be included in a trade. You could be

sure that for Trek Scuubel or Garrett Crochet. Do you feel that they'd probably go for somebody that the Dodgers have on their you know, their lineup right now or on their roster. Who would that be? I don't think so well. I mean, would you give up Luck, would you give up Vargas? Yeah? I would, I would give up Yes, I would for Trek Scuball in a trade for Schooble or Crochet, Lucks Vargas outman,

they're all on the table. Yeah, I think you're right. I mean you got to give to get all right, Robin, thanks for the phone call. Appreciate it. Eight six six nine eighty seven two five seventy is the phone number. With the Dodgers win tonight, they improved their record of fifty six and thirty nine. They certainly need to keep winning because they're right there with the Brewers for the second seed in the National League playoff picture.

The Brewers have forty losses, the Dodgers thirty nine. So it's not just about holding off the Padres after the All Star Break. It's about trying to win that second seed in the playoff pictures, so you don't have to play that best of three Wildcards series against a team that probably is red hot like the Diamondbacks were last year and the Padres were the year before. Tomorrow, Game two of this three game series for the Dodgers, young Justin Robleski will

be making his first start in the major leagues on the road. His second career start. Remember, he started last Sunday at Dodgers Stadium in his major league debut when five innings gave up four runs. He's going up against our young right hander in Kider Montero. Montero is one and two with an ERA four to sixty four. Morongo Casino. Dodgers on Deck begins at ten to ten in the morning from Coomerica Park. We will talk to you then,

thanks to Colin Ye and our Burbank Studios. Thanks to Dwayne McDonald at America Park in Detroit. In case you missed any of the show, you can find it on the iHeartRadio app. Once again. The final score. Tonight in Detroit, the Dodgers snap their four game losing streak with a four to three win. Enjoy the rest of your Friday night. We'll talk to you tomorrow early. Once again, the final score. The Dodgers beat the Tigers four to three. See them
