An exciting game here at Oracle Park yesterday, the Dodgers scoring seven runs in the eleventh inning, and the man that had the best view of all was Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebol. Dino, Happy Sunday. Thanks a lot for the time, oh always, Dave, thank you for having me on. What an exciting chess match going on even before that eleventh inning, Dino, the five man infield, who I know you're a big proponent of from
your days with Mike Zosia. Absolutely, and that's something that I grew a custom, you know about in the defensive end of it through Mike, and Mike did it, you know, one thousand percent of the time anytime we were on the road. But you know, Dave did it yesterday. We're well prepared. We know what we're doing on the defensive side, where to position guys, who's the hitter, players, know what to do when the
balls hits. So I like that. I think our staff liked it, and I was, you know, I know Dave is a big part of it, and yesterday you know, he put it in play and you know what David chose that you know, puts a little pressure on the hitter, has to get a ball up in the zone, he has to hit a fly ball. He might have sworn a pitches that he's not customedly swinging at. So put the pressure on them and big k from you know, Hudson
getting their Bailey on that in that moment, that's a great point. That's why we come to dino Ebol. And in that four run fourth inning, you made an aggressive send on Gavin Lux's base hit to right field. Jason Hayward certainly made Patrick Bailey a little bit nervous bearing down on him. Absolutely, And you know there's times and I tell you all the time and I say this, and I truly mean this. I'm not a perfect third base coach, but I do I know the process of it, you know,
the inning, the outs and all that stuff that the outfielders arm. And right there, I felt like, right now we need a little push. And I told Jason after the inning way to go away, to run through the base and a big body coming at home play you just you know, I know there's no more the running to catcher over, but there's still some presence there. I pushed the envelope a little bit and we got a break there when he missed the ball Dodger's third bait. Coach Tino Ebol is our
guest. All right, let's fast forward to that seven run eleventh inning. What was it like being in the coaches box and obviously see that avalanche happen. Yeah, it was impressive inning from our hitters. Right away. I felt like when Shohey was up there with the you know, a man on second base, I thought Bob was gonna do what he did and he walked him. And what a clutch double for Will Smith. There's the there's the opportunity that Will shines in big moment in the game, extra innings, packed
house, and he delivers the big double. It puts us over the edge, and then it just a carousel. Everybody was. They were passing the baton, they were swinging at good pitches. The pitcher was giving us pitches to hit, and we exploded for seven. But the thing that I got excited on was Jason a triple down the line for a veteran player coming around and head diving at third base and getting up showing that emotion. Man,
I got I got the chills out there. It fired me up, and I looked in our dugout and everybody was on their feet, so big, big inning for us and a lot of runs in that moment. Was that the baseball God rewarding Jason Hayward for making the right baseball play in the tenth inning to move the gifted runner to third base, There's no doubt about it.
And for me standing out in that box, I thought, that's a team at bat where you know, a left handed hitter get a guy over, and Jason forgot about his own self ego and he just put it to play, like, hey, this is gonna be a team at bat. I'm gonna do everything I can to move a runner over, and then he
delivers big in the eleventh, which it was exciting to watch. It's ironic because before yesterday's game, Dino Ebol was telling me about team at bats, how many at bats a player has to sacrifice the entire season, And you had the utmost veteran leader do that in the tenth inning, right, And
that's something I learned long time ago. And you know your big horses on your team, you're gonna get six hundred and fifty seven hundred played appearances and there's maybe five to ten good at bats a year where you're gonna give yourself up. You're gonna have a guy on second base move a runner over. Those are the team at bats and we were talking about it yesterday and it came into play with Jason yesterday. All Right, Dinu Ebel, I respect
your baseball IQ quite a bit. But your choice of a hoodie in ninety degree weather here in San Francisco, I'm questioning right now. Yeah, you know what, out of a scale from twenty to eighty, I'm probably twenty right now. I should be in short sleeves. But you know what, I'm not superstitious. But this is what I wore yesterday. So it's baseball. This is what I do. I love the heat, I love the weather, and today's a great day here in San Francisco. It's a great
day for us to take the series. Gino can sate enough. Dave Roberts a great manager, but certainly he has a great support staff, which starts with you and the rest of the coaches. So thank you for your time always, Dave, and thank you, And you're right, Dave's great. We got a good coaching staff and try to put a day together and win each and every day, and that's what we do. We'll look forward to a happy flight. Yes sir, that's what we need.
