Welcome to another episode of Docs Outside the Box .
I'm your host , dr Nii , joined by my co-host , dr Rene Short , and sweet and to the point .
Yo , hey guys , man we are . I had y'all , I had y'all waiting . I'm filming on location right now . I'm in working . I worked last night , I'm off for 10 hours and then I work again tonight . So it didn't make sense for me to drive all the way back home an hour and a half and just to turn around and y'all know it .
Basically , we here , we giving to people what they want , and you got the kids to school . So this is the perfect time to record .
Yeah , yeah , yeah , let's do this .
So , listen , we're going to talk about today . We're going to talk about the Affordable Care Act , how it affects us as locums , and then we're going to jump into this UnitedHealthcare issue fiasco with that breast surgeon and what's been going on with social media . So anything you want to say before we jump into it .
No , I gave you guys a little pause there to think about what I was going to do , Just kind of like you know , people were anticipating whether or not Kendrick Lamar was going to play or perform . They're not like us and he did , but yeah we talked about it on the live .
But there are some people who there's a bunch of people who are not listening or people who are listening right now , who didn't see it alive . But we covered that and I thought that he wasn't going to talk about it . I thought he was just going to move on for a couple of reasons . There's an interview where he's interviewing somebody .
It's just like pre-Grammy , pre-super Bowl type , you know , promo talk and stuff . But he basically says , like I'm in the now I really want to focus on you know what's going on with my new album and so forth . So I was like , oh , he's definitely not going to be doing that album . He's not going to be doing you know .
Now the lawsuit is ongoing , so isn't the lawsuit now ?
Yeah , I guess so , but he did it , yep , just like I predicted , the talk or , excuse me , the broadcast , was polarizing , to say the least . We should have taken bets on that . That's what we should have taken bets on People taking bets on the Super Bowl . The real bets was Kendrick Lamar's performance , yeah , so .
I would say his performance was like a B+ . You went from an A to a B+ . You said an A on the live .
Yeah , I'm thinking about it now . It's like a B+ , because I went back and looked back at some of his other performances , like at the Grammys and so forth , I was like , oh , he could have done way better . But it looks like he's in a different mindset , like now .
He's just like look , I just want to , I'm just putting out what I want to put out and that's it . I do have to say that I heard commentary from Bomani Jones and he talked about the performance and he did say something that was really interesting . He said that Beyonce would have been better for the Super Bowl .
Kendrick Lamar would have been better for that halftime show that Beyonce did back in Christmas . Basically , what he's saying is that her performance was very grandiose , very pleasing , everybody would be happy for it , happy with it . It should have been for the Super Bowl , his would be more for a regular season game and so forth .
But either way , whatever happened happened , I enjoyed the show . I know a lot of people didn't enjoy and didn't enjoy the show .
I thoroughly liked it . I was thoroughly entertained and um what did you like more than ? Entertained well , one you know .
I love the fact that he he performed the song he wanted to perform I think there's something , something you know , to be said about , you know , just doing what you want to do , you know , and not necessarily being stifled or silenced by anyone .
You know , I think that there's a level of risk to that , you know , and I think he was willing to take that risk and I like the theme , just the whole . You know , America then and America now kind of theme , you know , we talked about , like with Samuel L Jackson and I kind of went back and watched some things also .
But I've watched people take people's takes on it and there was so much packed in that performance that you had to go back to get all the messages . You know , you really had to go back to get all the messages and just to see , you know , other people's interpretations of things .
My own interpretation I just thought it was very , you know , I thought it was very raw and very real and I , for me , I like that . I like people who just tell it like it is , you know , and are basically unapologetic . Just this is my , these are my thoughts . Everybody's not going to like it , but I'm going to tell like it is the way that I see it .
And if you don't like it , but I'm going to tell like it is , the way that I see it .
And if you don't like it , well , maybe you're part of the problem . Yeah , I think we should just leave it at that . I felt the same way too . It's really hard for a rapper to carry an entire Super Bowl show . It hasn't been done before . Any rapper who's done it . Dr Dre did it with Snoop Dogg , did it with Eminem , did it with 50 Cent .
Dre did it with snoop dogg , did it with eminem , did it with 50 cent , did it with um mary j blige . So it's never really been done by himself . So that's . That was pretty interesting to do it without any feature except for scissors , scissors . So give him mad props for doing I enjoyed it .
If you didn't understand it , it wasn't for you , I'll just leave it to you . Like that , um and it's not . Don't take it the wrong way , but it's just just one of those . That's how he's always been , which is I'm gonna create something for my audience , and my audience knows who they are , and I think the audience kind of will figure out who they are .
If you're a fan of him , you know what he's talking about . If you're not a fan of him , you don't know what he's talking about . You don't know's just , he's the Bob Dylan of hip hop , basically , and rap , you know , and he's just doing his own thing .
