Disobedience; is it really selfish if it’s the love of your life?

For this week’s episode, we’re discussing the 2017 film adaptation, Disobedience based on the novel authored by Naomi Alderman and directed by Sebastián Lelio. Whilst Becca has watched this film more times than she can count over recent years, Molly has only just seen it for the first time due to the well-known ‘spit scene’ between Rachel Weisz’s character, Ronit, and Rachel McAdam’s character, Esti, which put Molly right off. Throughout the episode, we talk about attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community from religious groups especially in regards to the Orthodox Jewish Community as depicted in the film. Molly has incredible attention to detail when it comes to films and brings fascinating points to the podcast whilst Becca harps on about her love for religious angst.. Although we do talk heavily about the plot of Disobedience, there is definitely a more personal attachment to this film for Becca as you’ll hear further into the podcast. From talking about whether marriage is an institutional obligation to getting down to the cinematic trope of all WLW having a passion for photography; this is one episode you do not want to miss!
