2023 Reflections, 2024 Planning

Speaker 1

All right , welcome back everybody to another episode of the Do Our Things podcast . This is a special Freedom Friday episode and I hope you like the format . I would love your feedback on it . You can reach out to me . You can go to doourthingsnationcom or jpxcom . I hope , wherever you're listening , you're doing well .

You're getting ready for Thanksgiving and the holiday season , and so let's hop into it . So I'm at you live for the Do Our Things studio here in Wayneville , missouri , and I'm a high performance coach , a national mindset coach , and I wanted to share a message with you , something I've been talking a lot in my group coaching cohorts .

And here's the deal we only have six weeks left in 2023 . We only have six weeks left of 2023 . And so how are you feeling about what you accomplished this year ? What have you accomplished this year ? What's left on the table to get done before the end of the year ? So this is our moment , right now , to really analyze .

You know where we're at and what we need to do in order to finish the year strong . And I want you to rewind back to January of last year . You started the year from Christmas to New Year's . You probably , you know you probably that's probably the most reflective week of the month , or most reflective week of the year for most people .

Holidays are over and you're starting to look at the new year . So , going back to January , I just rewind back to that moment . Do we rewind anymore ? I'm thinking of like VHS tape , like hit the rewind button . I think you got to scroll back .

Scroll back , if you will , to late December , early January of this year , and when you were sitting down and doing your planning for the year , what did you set out to achieve ? You had a burning desire to make 2023 probably an amazing year . Well , looking back , has it been amazing for you ? Did you ?

Did you accomplish what you set out to do at the beginning of the year ? So Brennan Bouchard often says no matter how small you start , start something that matters . It's not just about the grand achievements , but it's also about the little things . It's also about the small , consistent effort .

So , with that said , what were some of the smaller things that you actually accomplished ? What are some of those things that you can be proud of ? I really want you to reflect on this year and I just want you to evaluate your path with honesty and courage .

I want you to acknowledge what you actually accomplished the big things and the small things , and maybe you've had some setbacks and side quests this year , maybe some detours right , I know I certainly did had some unexpected loss of some family members , had a big career change .

So what setbacks , what detours , what side quests took your attention and how did you show up in those moments ? What did you learn from some of those detours ? What were some of the lessons that you learned from those setbacks ? There's no judgment here . This isn't about this isn't a time to judge yourself . It's about .

It's about growth and having understanding , and that's how you get better . You're able to analyze yourself without judgment and some kindness , and acknowledge what you accomplished and where did you maybe get tripped up along the way ? How did you grow ? How did you get better ?

I also want you to consider how did you plan last year as you went through the planning cycle and you mapped out the year , what was effective , what was not so effective . And as you start your planning cycle for 2024 , you know what do we need to change ? Time management .

You know it's the science of high performance , but time management is really life management and the better you can manage and organize your time systems , you can better organize your life , and that enables you to set boundaries , it enables you to be more productive , more fulfilling .

And I guess , that said , how can you improve on your planning systems going forward ? Do you have a planning system ? Because if you don't , I'm gonna challenge you to get on that . And as you go into 2024 , you know what needs to change . How are you showing up what needs to change ?

One of my favorite questions is if you only had five years left to live , what would you stop doing ? What would you stop doing ? We're just thinking about starting and putting more on our plate , but what do we need to take off of our plate ?

We're on this journey of improvement and time management , and all these skills are critical for us to achieve success and to find , you know , work and life balance , and so think about those things . How can you improve in those areas ? I want you to think about reflection .

Reflection is the gymnasium of the mind , so I want you to look back at this year's journey with a reflective lens and just I'm going to tip a couple of questions here .

You may want to answer these , but what strengths did you discover about yourself and what strengths led you to achieve success this year and when things got really freaking hard this year , when you had those detours and side quests and shit got real , how did your strengths enable you to show up ? A lot of people will say , hey , you know , you need to .

You need to turn your weaknesses into strengths . I think that's bullshit . I think we have weaknesses for a reason . I think we need to double down on our strengths and become world class at our strengths . We need our weaknesses , we need to show them up so they don't they don't derail us .

But turning a weakness into a strength , no , spend the time to turn a strength into something world class . What was your greatest achievement this year , so far as you look back , from now to back to January ? What was your greatest achievement ? What was your greatest contribution and impact to your family ?

What was your greatest contribution to the organization in which you work or serve , to your business ? What was your greatest contribution to your community and in what ways can you carry forward the lessons learned from this year to dominate and get a jumpstart on 2024 ? You know , every experience , good and bad , has a lesson .

It's you know it's , it's refined your character and it's made you stronger , and we need to acknowledge these things . So let's focus on the future . Let's look at short term . What needs to get done between now and the end of this year ? How can you be disciplined in this holiday season ?

This can be an incredibly stressful time for people , and let's start with our life arenas , our health and wellness , right , I say you know , from Halloween until the beginning of the year , it gets cold and dark outside . We're not working out as much . We got the candy bowls . Now we're going into Thanksgiving , which is just a just a .

You're going to be eating everywhere , right . And then you got holiday cookies and all those things . This is where people really fall off track . All of my running friends , they've already completed all of their , their , their races and they're just kind of tired .

You combine that with the , the sun setting early at four o'clock here in the middle west and I don't know , just being cold outside , fatten up for the winter , right , you get we go into hibernation mode . How can you keep that cycle ? How can you keep from from doing the same old thing that's going to impede you ?

And what we don't want to do is go in the new year like everyone else , like new year , new me . Then we'll get on the treadmill and try to lose the weight that we gained over the last couple of months .

How can you place some boundaries for yourself so you can go into this holiday season not walking out , you know , 10 , 15 pounds heavier than you already are ? Let's look at Christmas . You got Christmas right around the corner . Let's look at our financial that , that arena of finances and affluence and wealth . Do you have a budget ?

Do you have a plan to not overextend yourself ? So many people , they , they . They lose control because they don't have a solid plan . They end up taking on a bunch of debt and then they spend half of next year trying to pay it off . Your family don't want your presence . They want your presence with the sea . How can you be more present ?

Do you have a plan so you don't overextend yourself financially ? But about your time ? You know you don't have to say yes to everything that you're invited to you . A Lot of people overextend themselves through time and they walk out of the holiday season like overextended , exhausted , because they said yes to every frickin thing that came down the pike .

How can you put a boundary up on that ? How can you walk out of the holidays refreshed and recharged . So how can you be disciplined in ? During this current season you know Jaco willing talks about .

He says all the time discipline equals freedom and it's time for discipline , action , your unwavering commitment to yourself to achieve your goals , to hold the line on the shit you said you're gonna do so . When it comes to the remainder of the year , what can you still get accomplished by the end of the year ? What limits can you push ?

The actions you take now can set the tone in the narrative for the entire entire year . Pablo Picasso once said that action is is the foundational key to all of success . So what is one action that you can take to bring closer your year-end goals ?

And , as you look at 2024 , what would you like to get accomplished and how could you take massive action To achieve that ? You want to make a tangible . You want to make it impactful

10x Goals, Live With Purpose

. I would encourage you to identify your goal . Then ask yourself how can I 10x that goal ? It's gonna force you to stretch outside of yourself . Great book 10x is easier than 2x . I love that book because it forces you to think outside the box .

People that are achieving at the highest levels there they just think and they're they think differently and they're more focused . And 10x is actually easier than 2x and 10x is actually easier than 2x .

And as you take these actions , I want you to just Remind yourself of your values and your actions aren't just about achieving goals , but it's about living fully and purposefully and with passion and purpose . When people are miserable , they're usually not connected with their purpose .

The distance between our purpose and and in our unhappiness that that , the further we we are away from that , the more misery we have in our life . And sometimes we need to realign ourselves . And so are you in alignment with your purpose ? And so here's your call to greatness . You know these final weeks they're not just a count down to the year-end .

It's an opportunity for a powerful upswing so you can finish 2023 on top . So how are you gonna finish this year on top ? How are you gonna rise ? How are you gonna finish ? If you need some help with that , you want some support , go to do our things . Nationcom , you can reach out to me directly . I offer some one-on-one coaching .

We have a community of like-minded people in the Forge , got some amazing programs that are coming out next year so you can get a jumpstart on 2024 . You can realign with your purpose , your passion , get clear on your vision , take bold action , Generate energy so you can live a happy and fulfilling life .

We're all in this together and I just encourage you to double down on your personal growth and development so you can be stronger , so you can be braver , unstoppable .
