S1: The European Union is under Construction (Ulrike Guérot)

Rich and Carola chat about Ulrike Guérot’s concept of a future “Republic of Europe (still under construction)”, exploring contradicting meanings of the concept of sovereignty in the context of a European Union (state vs people). Guérot’s concept of a sovereignty of the people is based on decentralisation to regions as anchors for identity, productivity and equality,  and Rich and Carola discuss how this type of devolution might just be what we need in the UK to resolve some of our socially democratic deficits.
