Episode description

In a special WORM/Dipsaus collaboration podcaster and activist Mariam El Maslouhi combines her two passions, organizing for justice and telling stories. In this three episode series Mariam will explore the Sound of Protest specific in The Netherlands. She wonders ‘Has the Netherlands lost its activist voice? Do we only march when it is geopolitical? And where is the sound of protest that once echoed through the Netherlands with thousands and thousands of voices?” This series explores the history, loss and re-invention of the chants, memory and sounds we hear at protests will be evaluated and re-examined with activists, artists and the people who have attended and have spoken on protests throughout two decades.

In the first episodes Mariam looks back at some important protests in Dutch history where people of color played an important role. She talked to her sister Naima about the anti-Iraq war demonstration in 2003, the second biggest protest in The Nethelands. And conitnues the conversation with Anousha Nzume about the protest after the death of Kerwin Duinmejer, a black boy killed by an white supremacist in Amsterdam.
