Okay. Well, I still have a half a shot and then I'm drinking a pineapple white Claus. Well, so
yeah. It was an intense episode.
Yes. Yeah, it was.
Before we dig into that one, though.
Yeah. Let me tell you about last week. All right. No, not last week. Let me tell you about the last episode back to two episodes a week. Okay. Last one was the rapture right? And cast yell,
he could rupture me time. Okay, ooh.
Castile appears to Dean and a dream and says he has something important he needs to tell him and to meet somewhere else. Private Dean and Sam go searching for Castile but instead find Jimmy, his vessel. He's got a spotty recollection of being an angel. He doesn't really remember much. And Jimmy wants to return to his family and just live out his normal life. But Sam and Dean are concerned about his safety with
demons coming after him. In the end, he ends up sacrificing himself again to be cast yells, I guess permanent vessel.
And in the end, Castillo's like you don't own me, Jean. Well, today's episode is titled, When the Levee Breaks. It's the 21st episode of season four and originally aired on May 7 2009. We pick up right where we left off at the end of last episode. Dean and Bobby have Lord Sam into Bobby's panic room and locked him in there so he can detox from the effects of the demon blood. Poor little Sammy is hallucinating and just having all around a terrible time. I mean, some crazy
hallucinations. Yeah, bless his heart. This first hallucination is Alistair torturing him. And he gets strapped to the same table that we saw Ruby strapped to earlier this season. Ruby when she was stretched to the table was completely naked. Sam was completely closed.
Of course, when I first when I first saw it, I was like, what is that doing and Bobby's bunker. And I was like, Okay, I don't think this is real.
But we did get the fabulous Christopher hired all Yes. cameo. Yeah, short, but sweet. Sam also hallucinates himself as the 14 year old boy from after school special Colin Ford returned and that was an interesting little performance was hey you kid he's really cute kid but he did really good with the conveying the spite of just like what the fuck man like we were gonna have a normal life and you fucked it up just really great little scenes and these
hallucinations. Samantha Smith came back as Mary and just the complacency. It was it was all so well done. Really well done in these little hallucinations. Oh, and also young Sam. Whenever he was like, Yeah, we always know what we were and his eyes went yellow like Azazel Oh, just so much good stuff. So while Sam is in the panic room, hallucinating and having all these things going on, Bobby and Dean are talking about you know, what are we going to do this
fucked up? Rufus calls and Bobby is not happy with Rufus
Bobby sassy in this episode. He's
so sassy. Oh, let me let me look at my demon detox manual. Oh, wait, there isn't one I loved that. Like I think that might be my quote at the end. But I don't care. It was so good. I'll say it twice. And roof is for those of you who don't remember because it took us a second to Rufus is Bobby's friend who gave Dean all the background information on Bella
back in season three. He apparently has been looped in knows what's going on with the apocalypse, the 66 seals, and he was calling Bobby to be like, dude, shits going down. Like these seals. They're popping. They're like five seals that have busted just today. Yeah, that was crazy. And Bobby researched it double checked it and he was like, yeah, like there's no doubt these are seals
shits going down. And we're flashing back and forth between Sam's hallucinations and Bobby and Dean and all that, but I feel like I've already kind of covered all the hallucinations. Yeah. I didn't mean to cover them all at once, but oh, well, I did well They're
spruced in throughout. But yeah,
sprinkle of delusion here sprinkle of delusion there throughout the entire episode. Anyway, Dean says, fuck, let me go call Casio and find out what's going on. So he goes out into Bobby's junkyard, and apparently is just out there screaming for his man,
I would feel like a crazy person the way that like even Jimmy in the last episode like calling to Castile and stuff, I'm like, I would just feel like a nut job out there just calling in the wind, just somebody not arriving anytime soon.
See, not me because I'll like go on walks or walk down to check the mail and be talking to myself the entire time. And I'll have neighbors just looking at me that like they think I'm nuts. But really, I'm just like telling myself, okay, this is what you're gonna do when you get back home because I don't want to forget and get distracted. And I will easily I'll be in the grocery store talking to myself about which thing I'm gonna get like, I'm
used to it. I don't care. I've gotten to where I don't care anymore. People just look at me. I talk to myself all the time. You're that person. I am that person. So Castiel appears, and he tells Dean that Sam could probably kill Lilith, but he'd have to consume so much demon blood that he would not be Sam anymore. He would be something dean would want to hunt. Paciello is like, you know, so we in order to not do that. You're the one. It's your dean. Like we've been telling you all
along. You're You're the one who's supposed to stop the apocalypse.
I feel like there's gonna be some sort of like, trick to that. For sure.
Because like I told you whenever they were talking, I got the vibe, right? That the conversation between Cassiel and Dean was us getting to hear both sides of the conversation between Cassiel and Jimmy because in the last episode, we only got to hear Jimmy side. Yeah, we couldn't hear what Castile was saying. But this one we get to hear Cassiel and Dean and it just felt like it was the same vibe. So what is Dean agreeing to? Plus we know Tessa warned Dean back in death takes
a holiday. You want to believe the angels have good intentions, but you know, something bad's come Yeah. And dangerous. offered himself up. He just gave full consent.
Oh, yeah. He like took an oath. Yeah, like had to repeat whatever it was Castile was saying. Yeah, and to what
like we still don't know. Yeah, like Bobby said you just agreed to be there, bitch. I loved it. Like what?
That's true. He's out there. Oh, yeah. And then at one point, he's like, I thought you're on ANGEL call. He's like I am on call, but I can still do stuff
on call for what? We don't know. But after Dean takes his oath him and Castile stared at each other for quite a long time
too long. It was weird.
They just stood in the junkyard just staring into each other's eyes as the camera panned up and away.
Okay, guys,
I was just enamored. Yeah, but you and I said like the if we we would not be able to even make it that long. Just staring each other like that. I
told you if we were standing there doing that not saying anything. I'd be like, what are we doing?
What's happening?
This is weird.
Anyway, yeah, Dean Dean. takes an oath to be obedient to God and the angels. Yep.
I don't know that Dean's very good at being obedient in general. All right, for daddy. Well, let's Castillo's as you mentioned that.
Never got he straight up said you're gonna do what we say. Just like you did with your daddy. I forgot. So Cassiel thought of that, too. But Dean's whole point is, don't you think it's better that I work with the angels rather than Sam. Work with the demons? Yeah. And Bobby whenever Dean was explaining everything Bobby just kind of had to be like, okay, like you got me there. Yeah, I guess it does make more sense to trust angels over demons. Than they noticed that things are quiet.
Too quiet. Because this whole damn episode, Sam's just been down there in the panic room, just screaming, yelling, talking to himself. Sounded like burly at the grocery store. They go running down and they open up the little pole slot. And Sammy is on the ground convulsing. They're trying to like question Is he faking it trying to get us open the door and then Sam gets flung up against the wall. And then he rolls along the wall. I want to know how did they do that?
I feel like it's either they had them on the pulley thing like we're hearing go up in the air
or Christopher Nolan this budget where they had room on a thing and they rotated it. It's not that kind of budget, but how did they do it? If
you think about it, all the stuff that was normally in that bunker isn't there? You know, so it would be maybe a little easier to turn it
that would have just a circle something to turn it though, but
there's a way that they can do it where it how did they do that? I think it's that that way
I need No. So y'all let us know. How did they do it? Did they put the set on something and turn it? So Jared paddock Luckey was rolling, or did they have him on a harness and pulleys and he rolled that way? Because it was cool. That was that was practical effects that was not CGI.
I was not expecting that I thought he was faking or that. I just thought he was faking to get them in there. But then when he flew to the wall, it was totally shift.
And like I said, that was not CGI that I'm 100% Convinced that was practical effects. Yeah, it was so good. When he flew to the wall. It was already we were already like, oh, and then when he went rolling along the wall, I almost jumped up like that was good. Yeah. So they realized, hey, we ain't faking it. Right? They're like, Oh, shit,
that was a talent.
Talented, this psychic abilities would be on a whole other level. If that was just a performance. They grab them. They take Sam's belt off and put it in his mouth, because he's just again, seizing. They've chained him to his bed for his own safety. So he doesn't hurt himself.
And you said, you notice a little padding under it.
They put little pads underneath the chains so that Sammy didn't hurt himself. It was so cute. Because they love him. Of course, they love him so much. And he used to be, they still love him. They love him so much. In fact, Bobby and Dean have a whole debate where Bobby says, maybe we love him too much. I know, maybe he could be the one who ends this. And we're not letting him because we don't want to lose him.
I was kind of having that thought before we learned that, like he's gonna have to consume so much blood that he wouldn't be himself anymore. But I've been thinking all along. I'm like, maybe he does need to take the stuff to do the job. But right after I heard that, I was like, oh, no,
but to Bobby's point, whenever he's saying we don't want to lose him. That could mean, we don't want to lose, Sammy, as we know him. We don't want him to drink the demon blood to become whatever it is, he'd have to become right. It could also mean they're worried he's gonna die sacrifice himself, but I don't know.
See apocalypse, right? But I also think, Oh, wait,
I'm kinda team Bobby on this debate.
I know. That's what I'm thinking. Yeah. But I also like when Dean was like, no, he's like, the i This is my line. I'm not gonna let him do that. I also see his point too, though. I mean, that's his little brother. That's been his job his whole life looking after him.
That's hard. Hard. Yeah. But like Bobby said, that's the cause, son, but also,
Dean's and Dean's mind. He's the one he's got. He's gonna take care of it. But he doesn't mean Sammy to do
we don't even at least we know what Sam's plan is to drink enough demon blood to be able to kill Lilith in the exact same way that he killed Alastair. That's Sam's plan to stop the apocalypse.
We don't know what the hell do we have no
fucking idea. Exactly. What is Dean supposed to
do? But I think that in Dean's mind, he's like a brute
and single I tear. And that's going to end the apocalypse. What is he supposed to do?
But I think he has so much faith in what they've said. Plus, it's a little narcissistic.
They both are because I think Sammy Sam is 100% hung up on aisle one. And now I'm starting to think maybe Dean is two. I think they're both
like that. They both want to be the one. But it's like we already know the consequences for Sam, like you said, But Dean, we don't know. But I think in Dean's position, he just he thinks I'm the one. The angels got my back. Like, it's gonna be fine. I'm just gonna take care of it. And that's that
they're both like, I'm the Highlander. No, I'm the Highlander special. I'm the Rhoda. They really are your I'm the rota. It's Romy and Michele all over Yeah. And
it really is like they're both like, desperate to be the Savior to save the world. They both want to be that person. But yeah, I think in the end, it's going to be like they're played off of each other in some way to get the job done.
You think? Yeah. Because I because what because Casio okay, we're getting ahead. Right? Right. Yeah. Okay.
I was gonna say that at that point.
I sorry. We're ahead of ourselves. Okay. So Bobby is pointing out to Dean, you know, like this shouldn't work in this cold turkey thing is not working. I'm worried we're killing him. And Dean, like LA said, is just like, No, I'm my line in the sand is we're not going to let him become a monster. That's not going to happen. But while Bobby and Dean are having this whole conversation, Sam is still
hallucinating. And this time he's hallucinating Dean, and Dean is essentially calling him a monster telling him that's what he is just like all of Sam's worst fears are being spoken out loud by the Solution Nation of Dean. And this was the first time when I noticed the angle that I brought up later. Oh yeah. I really want to know because it was a lower angle with the camera, but just also the way Sam and Dean's faces
looked in this angle. I feel like there had to have In a different lens, definitely, yeah. And I would like to know, because I've never paid attention to this type of shit before. And now that I'm paying attention to it, it's like it jumps out at me. Because sometimes they would show another shot from the same angle, but their faces would look completely different. So I know there has to be a different lens going in there. And I would like to know what that was and why the director made that
choice. I like it. I think it's because it was unique. I liked it. It was almost disorienting,
right? I was about to say it's a little chaotic. They're both like not themselves. So it was good that they didn't necessarily look like themselves. Times like, yeah, because it's so unlike them to be in a we're getting way ahead of ourselves. But
it was so good. It was so good. Like, especially when we get to the last scene. Oh my god. It was such an interesting choice. And in hindsight now, because I remember when Dean was originally down there talking to Sam, we didn't know he was a hallucination at first, right? But now in hindsight, he was using that angle and that lens a lot on dean. And so now I know in hindsight that was letting us know that wasn't dean there was a hallucination is so good. I don't know who the director is
yet. I haven't gotten to that point in my notes, but whoever you are, kudos, kudos. This was so good. This episode was phenomenal. All right. So Sam and Dean are sorry, Dean and Bobby are having their debate. Sam is hallucinating the dean is calling him monster telling him that he's awful. And all of that.
I I liked that in this scene. Sam was like, Don't you say that to me? Don't you say to me getting a new upset about it. But then it's a different story later on.
Oh, my God, we have one episode left.
I know. I was about to say like, you keep saying it's a good episode. And I was about to be like, if if you can't tell because we're like all excited talking to you.
Yeah, like last episode was good, too. Don't get me wrong. Yeah. This time it was just, yeah, just there's so many things like starting to fit into place and so many things where it's like, you know, something else that's gonna happen. Oh, it was so good. Okay, Sam is hallucinating anymore. And he's just laying there. And then his handcuffs and chains start just like popping open. Sam's just looking around like what? And then the door to the panic room opens. So Sammy is just like,
all right. Don't have to tell me twice. He jumps up, grabs his jacket sneaks out he goes upstairs. Bobby is asleep on the desk on an open book because he's still been researching. Oh, and Dean is sleeping on the tiny little couch. Sam sneaks out into the night. Bobby ends up confronting him as he's hot wiring One of Bobby's cars. And I started crying in the scene. I was boohoo crying because it's Bobby and he's like, don't make me shoot you and Sam's like you won't me. And just Oh Jim fever.
I love you so much. And it was just so sweet. Sam's just like challenging him like shoot, shoot me then. Do it. If you're gonna do it, Bobby do it. And of course Bobby can't. That's his boy. Little baby Sammy.
I think he even says you're like a son. or something. Yeah,
so Sam takes the gun from Bobby and knocks his ass out. I stopped crying at that point. Yeah, way to snap me out of it. Sam
like God, Sam. gotten in the fucking car. He knew he wasn't going to shoot Yeah, you know leave Okay, okay, but you gotta go back to
Yeah, so then we get a sneaky Pinkie
I don't think that's fair. I'm
just kidding. I don't like a sneaky Pinky. Sneaky. Pinkies never go where you want them to go oh, you know what? It's accurate because I didn't want him to be their true he was being a sneaky peeky in the basement? Who
didn't say who?
Castile it was Cassie. Allahu unlocked him and let him out. Why I still don't understand that's
why I think like I feel like he's gonna play Sam against again Dean to do what he needs to do or something's gonna something like that.
The saving Sam gonna be the motivation like what? Why would you think he's gonna kill them?
Maybe that may be it? I don't know. I just think something. They're gonna be played against
that feeling. I just have this feeling that Sam will survive this season.
One team
I have a feeling they're both going to survive. They're both going to be okay. Well,
I mean, there are how many seasons so I think that's a safe bet.
But yeah, Castillo let him out.
Yeah, I don't know. I would that made me think like,
and it just kind of makes me think like okay, Anna straight up said last episode. I'm getting like 10 Getting back to heaven was bad, painful, not good. And the way he was all I don't serve you and all that. What happened? He got reprimanded. He sure did. They put him back in his place. And Anna even visits Castile after this and confronts him. And it's like, What the fuck? Why did you let him out? What is going on? Cast is just like you shouldn't have come here. And the two
other angels came. And I thought Zachariah was going to come whereas Zachariah, I'm sure we'll see him again. They've built Zachariah up to be so who is he? Where is he think we'll see him again? You took my Uriel away, these angels pop up out of nowhere and then you tease me with this Zachariah. And then these two randos show up. I really like Anna. I like Anna too. But what happened to her? Because we don't we didn't see like it showed Cassius face and it got really bright. What
happened to Anna? Well, what
happened in that one episode where she like, lit up,
she blew up and went and got she like called in a favor and went and got her hot body back. Oh, that's remember because you and I were both like, Anna. Girl. Give us that number. I have in my hot body but I'm nostalgic to Okay. I don't want Anna to be dead.
I like and I don't either. She's kind of like a little voice of reason. Yeah.
I like when she pops in just to be like, What the fuck? Yeah. And then pops away.
She's like, What are you doing?
You're fucking stupid. And then she's gone. Who are these other angels that showed up? Who these other two people?
Yeah, that was weird.
I have questions. Oh, well, according to wiki, they just take her captive. So
oh, okay, good. Yeah, okay. Good. But at least
I want her to come back. Yeah, I don't want to lose Anna Yeah, I'm not ready for Anna to be I'm not ready for any of these characters would be gone. And I'm sure they're gonna kill somebody off soon. Yeah. It's fun show. Anyway, Sam goes and meets up with Ruby. He's rented out the honeymoon suite at a really nice hotel because he's trying to throw Dean off his tracks. So he's making decisions completely opposite of what he would normally have done.
But Dean already like knows.
Oh, yeah. I'm Ruby is like, I'm so sorry. I'm so sad. I don't want to come between two brothers. This is awful. Everybody has Sam tackles or to the bed. No time for that. I need my fix. You screamed whenever he tackled or to the bed started with me. I
was like, whoa. But okay. I feel like it's getting a little true bloody that and like, how did they dislike? Is it just Dean that makes the blood makes him powerful? Or is this like, God damn. Sorry,
you mix them up so bad.
I have the right person in my head when I'm viewing him. Oh, I
bet you do.
I just get the name wrong. But anyway, which I guess he get he fed the babies the demon blood. So I guess there they
knew there was something to it. I was going to say that's the lore behind death. But the whole reason Azazel fed the babies his blood in the first place was because it took whatever potential powers they may have had and gave them a boost. made them more strong. And Jake, at the end of season two, whenever he was talking about how once you just give in. You have powers that you have. I don't know. No. Now we know that Jake was probably sucking off Azazel
Yeah, okay.
I just caught up with that. But yeah, I just thought he was, uh, he probably was yeah,
it's just a little. It's it just as to reminisce and have True Blood for me with the Wii.
Is that bad thing? No. Just they just they need to not make it so sexy. When he tackled her to the bed. I was like, Ooh, I
know. And I was like, Oh, it was sexy time. But then now he just went to her little knife on her ankle.
Well, that's what happened in that last episode to where she came in. We thought it was gonna be sexy time and then they were like, nope, blood drinkin. Where's Chuck? I'm getting distracted. So after they suck each other off. Ruby and Sam are laying in bed together with their shirts on.
Oh, I noticed. I was gonna say something that I'm like, it's it's every time now I guess I don't need to, like point it out.
And Ruby is explaining that the seals are popping off. You know, Sam doesn't know this information. He wasn't upstairs whenever Rufus made the call and let Bobby know and all that other stuff. So he's Sam is just like we're the angels. And we're just like, oh, no, but I found out that the final seal can only be broken by Lucifers first, and she shares some lore that whenever Lucifer was pissed off and jealous that humans were
God's favorite. He took one of the first humans and corrupted them into becoming the first demon which was Lillith who We did lore on back in season. What was that? 233? I think it was three. So in supernatural lore, Lilith is the first demon and therefore she is the only one who can break the final seal to release Lucifer. And so Sam is just like, Oh, cool. Like, I just need to kill that bitch then if she's dead, she can't
break the final seal. Which means it doesn't matter that all these other seals have broken. Lucifer won't be free. And Ruby's like, exactly. You're so smart. I love you. As they're preparing, Ruby is saying, Listen, there's another demon. It's littlest chef. I know exactly where she's gonna be when she's gonna be we need to go find this bitch. Because you now read what require more demon blood than I'm able to give you Sure. I'm just like, comes back to Mystery Spot. They're gonna
drain that bitch. You didn't follow that?
What? Bitch.
The bitch that's in the the babies. Oh, yeah. Which, by the way, in case you didn't know Lilith was evil. They really drove it home here. The chef her specialty is that she goes and gets babies from the hospital and brings them to Lilith to eat. So if you didn't get it before, like, she bad. She eats babies, y'all. But Ruby and Sam are gonna go get that girl and drain her was what I thought they were getting at. Yeah, is
that there's a demon. We know exactly where she's going to be when she's going to be there. Let's go get her because I'm not gonna let you kill, like drink all my blood. So let's go get that girl and you can drink all hers?
Yeah, I thought they were just gonna use it to find lolis huh, but I don't know.
Anyway, they're preparing to do whatever they're gonna go do either use this chick to go find Lilith or use this chick to give Dean more. I just did it. To give Sam more demon blood or a combination of both. Who knows. But Dean arrives, he's lurking out in the hall. And he sees Sam leave the room. So he goes in After Sam and attacks Ruby. He's got the demon knife and he's totally trying to kill Ruby. But Sam comes in and saves the day tells Ruby to get out of
there. So Ruby takes off and Dean is pointing out like she's been manipulating you man. Like she's gotten you hooked on this stuff. She disappears at weeks at a time. And Sam has said I'm not like a druggie in need of a fix. I'm doing this for a reason. And Dean is just like looking at you, you know, going back and forth. And I see both perspectives here. Whereas Sam thinks that he's doing something to fulfill a purpose. But Dean is just like, you're not my
brother anymore. And now I know why you're strung out on this stuff. You know, it's really heartbreaking honestly know, things come to blows. They end up fighting. Dean ends up saying everything, essentially that his hallucination did in the panic room and just breaking Sam's heart. He is crying. Dean's crying. Burly was crying. Well, and
this is when he's like, he's like, just say it instead of when he was in the room. He's like, Don't you say that to me? Don't say that to me. But now like he's got the blood and he's like, go ahead. Say
it's soberness make it official. Yeah, I know. It's still broke his heart. Sam ends up kicking Dean's ass. Dean has called Sam a monster who said like, again, he said, all those terrible things. But the thing that I thought hurt me the most. As Sam was getting ready to like leave while Dean's laying on the floor trying to catch his breath. Dean says what I'm pretty sure Sam said had their dad had said to him, which was if you leave, don't you ever
come back? Yeah. So that's a second time Stan's had to hear that from his dad, quote, unquote, in his lifetime. He heard it from John when he left for college, and now he's hearing it from Dean and Sam pauses. But he leaves now. And we just see Dean laying there on the floor. Yep. It was written by Sarah gamble and directed by Robert singer. Of course. Yeah. Oh my god. It's so good. I have to say out of all the Robert singer episodes, I think this is probably my favorite of Robert
singers. This one was really good. It was really good. The lens like in the room when they were fighting and taunting each other and saying these horrible things to each other. That's when we really started to pick up on that lens that something different was being used. So core. I mean, the glorious thing I can think of was when Alistair was torturing Sam and his hallucination but they didn't really show a whole lot. Yeah, it was more like sound effects. Yeah, was there anything you
adored about this episode? Sassy Bobby. Sassy about you. You were every time Bobby had a live LA was very happy. Yeah. I agree. I adored sassy Bobby. And just the direction by Robert singer yes episode. Yes. Like I said it was super artistic. Just adding to the feel of is this real? Oh, what's happening? Just the chaos and everything that was put in just these tiny little touches, but they were so effective, like off kilter, where you know, something's off like yeah, just
something's not right. So what about the lore lay?
Okay, we're gonna since Sam had quite a few of these, we're going to talk about hallucinations. Hulu, Hulu, Hulu. Hallucinations are the perception of an event or object through any of the five senses, and the absence of any external stimuli. They can be explained that by changes in brain structure, alterations in neurotransmitter balance, or when a crossover between consciousness and unconsciousness happens.
Hallucinations are caused by what was just said, and are not caused by a single brain region. They can manifest as a person seeing, hearing smelling feeling or tasting things that aren't actually there. They can make the individual experiencing them scared, paranoid, anxious, and the term hallucination comes from a Latin phrase that means to wander mentally. And so the different types are gustatory hallucinations is when a person can taste something that isn't
there in their mouth. It's an uncommon type of hallucination, but it can be triggered by specific medications or health problems, tactile hallucinations, these are for touch, the sensation of being tickled. Or the feeling of bugs crawling on one's skin is the most typical way of people experiencing them. I don't think I've ever had a whole sinner hallucination of being tickled.
I've never had a loose nation of being tickled. But I've definitely had, I don't know if I should call it a loose nation.
