Berly

Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.

LA

over drinks, we'll discuss the lore of gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly

I'm burly, and I'm a new fan of the theories.

LA

I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now, let's get tipsy. Hello, la Hello, Burley.

Berly

It's our season three premiere, right, and we're celebrating two milestones today. Okay, first, this is our 50th episode. Really well, including our trailer and our bonus episodes that we've done. Okay. I don't want to do math, though. So we're just gonna go ahead and celebrate our 50th episode today. Sounds good. Also, this is basically our six month anniversary. Oh my gosh, it's so special. We saw this season features a Christmas special. So to celebrate our milestones, we're doing

Christmas in May. Which means that for listeners, you can get free stickers. You have to follow us on Instagram, Twitter or Tik Tok. And just DM us an address and we'll send you some denim wrapped nightmares. stickers for free. no cost to you. So hit us up. And they're cute. They're real cute. How are you feeling about the show so far? Did that catch you off guard there? Yeah. Just sitting there nodding, nodding to yourself.

LA

Well, I was gonna say we had a little bit of a break. So it's like, yeah, coming back. But I didn't know if we should talk about that or not.

Berly

Yeah, we did. We took a little bit of a break. We weren't going to do that between season one and two as well. But we were too excited.

LA

I feel like it wasn't like really an intentional break.

Berly

Just shit was going. Yeah, there was just a lot of stuff that prevented us from getting together. Yeah,

LA

but it was nice to come back into a new season. First episode.

Berly

Yeah, I was excited. I was like starting to get withdraws.

LA

Yeah, I'd kind of like I hadn't. I'm glad for the the recap because I needed that.

Berly

Oh, I have I have something prepared as well. Oh, season two. I'm going to do my best to recap the entire season. Oh, cheese. Hey, I prepared in advance. So I feel like it's going to be okay. Season kicked off with the death of John Winchester who sacrificed himself and the cult, the magic gun in order to save Dean. This also kicked off Dean's death wish which we kind of saw continuing in this season premiere, because he felt guilty and he felt like he still

shouldn't be alive. survivor's guilt, whatever you want to call it. There's a lot of grief in the first half of season two, understandably, John Winchester, you know, we learned in the special features that they were like, we have to kill Obi Wan. So a lot of sadness going on. We find out that John's last words to Dean were basically if you can't save Sam, you're gonna have to kill him. Just like what the fuck that we find out. There's all these demon children and Sam has a demon children.

And Sam is really scared and upset and worried that he's going to turn to the dark side and go crazy and start killing people. We met other hunters at the Roadhouse, which ended up being completely destroyed by the end of the season. Ellen and Joe are still running around, but Ash is now literally ash rip. We also met Gordon, but he's probably in jail based off of when we saw him last. We've met a finance trickster who I know comes back at some point this season because Cuyler told

me so. So looking forward to that. All the demon children got killed. Like we found out they existed and by the end of the season, they were all done. They were all gone. Sam, I don't know. Is he still psychic? Does he still have visions? He saw telekinetics whatever, who knows remains to be found. Dean made a deal at a crossroads in order to

save Sam's life. Because like father like son, at the end of the season, they accidentally opened a hill gate and a bunch of demons came out and Azazel came out and was like Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark Matt, and they shot him and killed him with the help of the ghost of dear old dad. Then they got the hell gate closed again. But Ellen and Bobby were like, oh, a lot of stuff got out. And so that brings us to season three. Yes.

LA

And this one starts right? I guess it's a week after they opened the gate. It starts out.

Berly

The title of the episode is The Magnificent Seven, which is the name of a class thick film from 1960 with your printer and Steve McQueen. That's important. Okay.

LA

Well, we don't start out with the guys, we start out with this guy who doesn't look too happy. No, he's in his neighborhood. And it's like a cookie cutter neighborhood. But it's like one of these things. It's not like the other and it's hidden in his house. And his car is

Berly

dirty and car, and he's being wasteful. taking out the trash. That trash bag was not even halfway full.

LA

You did mention that. Yeah. But then his he's like looking around. And then after he put the trash in the bag,

Berly

he was envious of his neighbors. That's why envy took him.

LA

Well, his trash can start shaking, which I thought was a very strange, even when we saw this big, like cloud of black and purple. And all we know is all the demons coming from the hell gate or whatever. I was like the trash cans need to rattle. I thought maybe the houses would know just lights flickering and trash cans. Yes. So that's what they were there

for. And so we see that, as you said, Me take that guy, and then they go off into the city to take just, I guess, 1000s of people, tons of them.

Berly

Then we got the new little supernatural. That's true. Yeah, kind of, like this Devil's trap, graphic Cana came toward the screen and faded and did the thing and was like, wow, right. And then I remembered, Oh, yeah. This is when they got their own special effects team. Oh, this season? Well, last season, is whenever they got their own department, it really

shone it off. And because that's what I was gonna say is like, they talked about it in the special features for season two that they got their own special effects department that just worked on Supernatural. And I was like, well, they're used to things now. Like they're really showing it off this season. Because Holy shit.

LA

Yeah. A lot in the first episode. And we see our guys Sam's in the car searching through some big book. Oh, some old looking book.

Berly

It was the story of Faust, which we actually said that yeah, which we actually covered when we talked about more for making deals with devils and whatnot. Last season.

LA

And Sam, like, looks up and he's in the car outside of a hotel room window and we see Dean and a wife beater. Just given him a big old cheesy grin, thumbs up. Any she closes the curtains and then we see this girl, just come right up to him and ask, like, hands up. Like, she's like a child like, okay, everything changed my clothes. It just looked so it

Berly

was really awkward. I've never done that where I've gone up to somebody and put my arms up over my head and be like, okay, yeah, take off my shirt. So it was it was odd. Yeah, it was. It was just awkward.

LA

And Dean is just, I mean, he's, I guess he's like, good for my brother. He's in there having a real good time. Yeah, we learn. He's in there with some twins.

Berly

He called them the Doublemint twins. In a while.

LA

Sam calls Bobby to see what he's up to if he has any advice. Bobby's telling him, you know, you're not going to find what you're looking for in that book. You know, you're you're not going to save Dean that way. So that's Sam's new mission, it seems is he's determined to find a way to get Dean out of this deal he made at the crossroads where he saved him. So Sam pokes his head into the hotel room or motel room and sees what he

didn't want to see. I guess I wish I was like, why would you not knock and wait for him to answer. Don't just pop in on him. He finishes up with the Doublemint twins and they head out and as their they head to Nebraska, I think.

Berly

Yeah, when Bobby was talking to Sam, he told them that they had a case to go check out yeah,

LA

they mentioned that it was really odd. That said there were 17 cities who had seen the devil cloud since they opened the hell gate but that nothing had been reported like no issues nobody offing themselves killing anybody. whatnot.

Berly

I think it was crops crops were failing at this place in right Nebraska.

LA

Yeah, it was crops and then like swarms of cicadas I think he said Yeah,

Berly

because I brought up the cicada that we knocked away from us one time and it went

LA

right that's funny. Well, they ended up they meet Bobby at this house. It's like looks like a little farmhouse and I think it said it's like right outside of Nebraska Lincoln, Nebraska.

And they're in the house that obviously stinks they're going through trying to clear it out and Sam comes up on these three people on a couch just did yeah flies buzzer and TV's on and I was like okay, makeup department because I mean the makeup lately they look good, like a good death but like they look real good.

Berly

I couldn't even tell if they were people or if they were possibly props. Yeah, like it just Yeah,

LA

well and then when we learn later that like those three died of like dehydration and starvation. I was like, No well that yeah, they definitely

Berly

looked like they looked like yeah, it was what however they did it. It was really good. Yeah. Yeah. It creepy disgusting. Yeah.

LA

They hear somebody outside and some guy just gets like comes up on Dean out of nowhere gets them on the ground and he sees Bobby like great in the guy like friendly. Dean's down on the ground. He's like I'm bleeding. Hey, what's going on? We discover that Bobby has this adorable couple that are hunters together.

Berly

And we were like, oh my god, they're so cute. We love them. They're probably going to be dead by the end of the episode. Yeah,

LA

you call it? You sure did.

Berly

Well, partially, yeah. 50% Isaac and Tamra eyes. Yeah, I

LA

was looking Tamra. And Sam is like, real eager to, you know, let's band together. Let's go hunt. You know, there's all these demons out. team up together. We'll get more than a separate. But Isaac is not down. He is not pleased that they're the ones that opened the what is it? Hell's Gate? He'll get the devil's gate. Hell's a okay. Yeah. And let them all out. Which I mean, yeah, you can move out on him, but still, like, help each other out to get them back in there, you know, but he

seems real bitter. But his wife Tara was a lot nicer than he is. But she obviously agrees with her husband and they don't want to. They don't want to team up. And then we see our guy from the very beginning. This was weird to me. It was almost like kind of cult like I feel like in a store. So he walks into this clothing store. And there's this girl they're looking at. I don't

know what she's looking at. But he just like taps or holds her shoulder and looks her in lines as those shoes are nice, aren't they? Or something like that? And she like, twist her head over real fast is like they are nice. I won. They were green. Yeah, green heels.

Berly

But green with envy. I know. You had a face on You're like an expression on your face. Like, you

LA

know, I have green hills. Oh. So like very creepily. The the girl blonde girl goes over the brunette with a green hills and tells her she wants those shoes. Yeah. And the girls are just like, they're great. She's like, Yeah, aren't they? And she's like, I want them. And the brunette says, Too bad last pair. Did you walk savvy? She was rude about it. Really? But yeah, she walks out and Damn, that girl follows her and smashes her head into her

windshield. And just picks up the shoe shoe bag and walks

Berly

off the effects. It was really cool. The blood coming out.

LA

Yeah, well, I was on the windshield. That's how it's supposed to look when that happens. Not just like she's got a bandaid on her forehead.

Berly

Where there's blood seeping out like crazy. Yeah. Well, she died I think I think yeah, I think she killed her. Yeah, she got her.

LA

Yeah, she she got away with it because they did not go after her at all

Berly

picked up the bag and walked up like that was and

LA

I wonder if she came out of her trance and realized what happened? Who knows? Well, I mean, good for her. She got her shoe. It's Bobby, the all three of the guys end up in the store. And Bobby like has gone and gotten himself in a suit and tie. And what was he gonna go do? interview somebody?

Berly

I think he was pretending to be FBI or something. Yeah. And then Sam was just kind of looking around outside watching people and Dean was inside schmoozing people who

LA

were still around. Yeah, the it's been a real good mood since the twins. It's almost suspicious. Yeah, like a little too much. Yeah. And he's real flirty. Yeah. Yeah. Like, you just got some guy. Yeah. One thing that happened when they were out in the by the store is we see pretty blonde girl kind of following Sam. And as he kind of, you could tell he kind of got an idea. Somebody was there. And he turned around, and of course, she was gone. But we'll see her later. Three of them end

up at a bar I forget. Oh, they follow the guy they discovered and the video footage, they saw the guy who was doing the weird cult, like, follow my instructions. And he's got he's walking into a bar. They're like gung ho to go in there. And Bobby's like, no, no, no, let's, let's take him out tail and see what's going on. And then we'll go after him. But Sam's like I don't think that's gonna be happening because Bobby's friends are walking in the bar

right behind the demon. And the couple goes in there and they're not being very subtle about watching this guy. Isaac got up to do something and the demon.

Berly

Well, the guy got up and went to the bathroom. And so since the men's restroom, Isaac was like telling Tamra, go get the car, pull it around back, we'll be outside and five and so he was gonna go and like ambush him at the urinal or whatever. And whenever he got up, somebody came up was like, what do you do when in here?

LA

You're Yeah, he's like, we in Isaac's like a weather tomorrow, you know? And he's like, No, I'm saying what are you doing? You're kind in here. Yeah. And his eyes go black. And then it's like the whole everybody in the bar. It's like it's around 10 of them, including Isaac and no, I know. It's like seven of them. But as it were, were they the only ones in the bar? I think so. Okay. Well, anyway, all seven of the people there. Their eyes go black, and they come after them.

And they make with their influence. It's what is it? Gluttony makes Isaac drink a big glass bottle like Drano or something.

Berly

And I want to know what that was. Because it like looked like maybe egg yolks or something, whatever. It was coming out of the bottle, but then whenever it was all over the floor, it didn't look like egg yolks. I'm just curious what that concoction was because he was really drinking it. And it was yeah, it was making me gag watching it.

LA

Oh, and then he's like coughing up blood and everything after that. Well, our guys ran the car through through the front of the bar. And Dean gets out and it's throwing holy water on all of them to get Tamra away. And they take off without Isaac. And they're back at Bobby's, I think, or they threw me in the trunk before they left. Yes. And then that's where they discover that it's the seven deadly sins that they're dealing with.

Berly

Yeah, and I don't think it was Bobby's it was like an abandoned Victorian mansion type thing. Okay, because there was like plaster missing off the walls and or was it the Howard open shelves everywhere? That was in the house that the three dead people were in? Maybe? Yeah, I don't know. But it was really dilapidated. So. Oh, no.

LA

Well, Tamra is losing her shit and wants to go back to her husband save her husband. Yeah, I don't think there was much. Bobby like, lays into her. I was like, Whoa, de Mabi. And he's like, No, we're not going. And even the boys that kind of gave each other a little like, looks like to

Berly

me. Well, she was gonna get herself killed. He knew what they were dealing with. Oh, I know.

LA

But we just hadn't seen that. Either Russian Yeah, not yet. Well, they've got me tied up. And he's under the devil's trap that they've done on the ceiling, like they always do. And for some reason, Dean will not I shouldn't say for some reason, Dean keeps offering himself up in this episode, like sacrifice, like, oh, you know, I'm going to I'm going to be dead in a year. Anyway, like, he just keeps mentioning that and

offering himself up. He tells them to take off hilt, you know, slow everybody down a bit. Because this week, they know the other demons are coming. And of course, Sam's like hell no,

Berly

we're not doing that. Before we move on. We did get a little bit of a callback to Gordon. Oh, yeah. Because after they interrogated envy and found out that the other demons were coming and all of that other kinds of stuff. They let Tamra do the exorcism on NBS in his aspect to hell, and they left the room and so she after she finished the exorcism, she came out and they were like, Well, what about the guy he was possessing? And she goes, he

didn't make it. Right. It's like, oh, Tamra might have a dark side and down like why did the exorcism kill him? Right? You know what happened in that room? It seemed a little shady seemed a little shady. I

LA

agree. As they after they are after she takes care of MB they have the place kind of boarded up. And they hear Isaac outside yelling for Tamra and He's in bad shape, of course, still bloody acted like he's hurt. But Bobby keeps telling her that's that's not him. And he goes into something that he is like, you know, we were never going to leave each other without our promise. But then, just like that night, the whatever something happened to their daughter and she, he like

accuses her of leaving her. And Tamar loses it. She jumps through the whole door. Like Pat like the wooden things on the door and everything. She just tears through them and tumbles down the stairs with him. stabs him right in the heart with a lift like a steak. Yeah. Yeah.

Berly

Just kind of like, ah, on the floor, so I don't I don't think that killed him. But maybe it like pinned him to the sidewalk or something. Because it was like a huge ask. Yeah, I don't know. But like it was on concrete. So I don't know.

LA

When the guys are back in the house. Then each demon comes after one of them. Who was it that came after?

Berly

Bobby. They didn't specify who went after Bobby.

LA

Well, he traps him in the Yeah, we know what traffic

Berly

we know. It wasn't in the and we know it wasn't pride. And we know it wasn't wrath. Because I think wrath was Isaac right? Probably. And we know Pride goes after Sam and last one after Dean right? It doesn't matter.

LA

Ryan. Bobby takes care his demon that came after him pretty quick. He's he kind of tricks him into stepping into the devil's trap and exercises him less goes after Dean. And he tricks her in between. He makes out with her for a little while first. Yeah. And then he takes care of her. The Rosary, the holy water in the tub.

Berly

She touched him like the Envy guy did and the department store like, kind of creepily, she touched him. He was like, let's have some fun or something before he made out with her for a little bit. So I am curious, like, was he influenced to make out with her? And then he just overcame that in order to defeat her? Or was that his idea all along?

LA

I figured it was his idea all along since the tub was there already. And he kind of backed her up into it. Yeah. But who knows? Right then goes after Sam. And he started seeing some things I didn't really understand. He called him the boy king and the Prodigy, which I know we obviously know something special with Sam and how he's a demon child or whatever. But I thought that was weird.

Berly

And he had two friends with him. So right, it was three, three demons in there.

LA

And then so the he starts fighting them. And out of nowhere is the girl from the town earlier, the blonde that was following Sam, and she has some fancy knife on her thigh. And she pulls it out and takes out all three of them and kills them. I mean that, again, the social effects like she would like slice the throat open and it was like orange and red light flicker. Yeah. And then she did the same Luke stabbed the guy in the head. And it was like out of his eyes and his mouth like it

was. I mean, it's pretty cool.

Berly

It was a cool vibe. Same but she did not give a shit about trying to save those humans. She did not did not at all. She took them all out and was just like, you're welcome.

LA

Yeah. And then she took off. Yeah. So she's a mystery

Berly

with this bit.

LA

Then they're they're outside. They've rolled up the bodies assaulting them ready to Burnham? They're chit chatting. And Bobby takes off CS tells you tells them you know, we're definitely a war coming. I'll see on the next one. And Sam mentions to Dean where they should go next is Louisiana. To see he had been talking to Tamra Oh Tamra takes off to Tamra did

survive. She took off first. And he had been talking to her about some hoodoo priestess she knew and Louisiana that he thought might be able to figure out a way to save Dean. But Dean reveals that he needs to stop going after that. Because the part of the deal was that if he tries to get out of the deal, Sam will die. So they're just they're just kind of fucked. Yeah. Sam finally kind of calls him out on his attitude this whole time, like being too happy go lucky and then just offering

himself up all the time. And Dean just basically tells him he's like, look, I'm gonna die in here. Like, I just want to live my life. Let's kill some demons. Let's go. So I just want to live my life for what I've got left. And they take off for their next one.

Berly

Yeah, he said something about how he's actually happy for once, but I'm not buying it. Yeah, I feel like it's a front. Yeah, he's just it's over. It's overkill on I'm so happy. I'm so flirty. I'm so sweaty. Yeah,

LA

he's very different at the start of this season. Was pretty gory. Yeah, I feel like it's gotten. It got better for this episode. For sure. Some of it. It's just like, there's not enough blood or there's too much blood like it's the right amount.

Berly

Yeah, it was just the right amount of gore. And into what's the word I'm looking for? decomposing body. Yeah, yeah, just the right about that was done. Well, it wasn't overkill. This episode was directed by Kim manners. Yeah, who I thought it looked different from any episode we've seen before. I couldn't put my finger exactly on it. There were quite a few more close ups of people in this episode than I feel like we've

regularly seen. But just something visually about it was a little different that I couldn't quite figure out. But it wasn't the director because Kim manners actually directed quite a few episodes in season one. He directed dead in the water bugs. Scarecrow Chateau and the season finale Devil's trap. Oh, and he has quite a few episodes coming up this season two. Oh, I'm sorry. That was season one. Season Two. He also did in my time of dying children shouldn't play with dead things.

No Exit houses of the holy heart. One of your favorites. And the season finale all hell breaks loose part two, specifically. So he's done quite a few episodes. So we've seen his work before. But there was just something different about this one. Not bad. Just an observation that I noticed. Was there anything you adored about this episode? Bobby, Bobby, and he looked so good. He looked so cute. He has hair all come back and Bobby in the suit was really

cute. Other than that, I'll be honest, I thought it was kind of kind of forgettable.

LA

I know that when at the end when we I feel like we usually were like

Berly

really, really loved it. Yeah, this was it wasn't a bad episode but I don't think I'm going to remember this one by the time we get to the end of the season, yeah, you know what I mean? So the lower Oh, I croaked a little bit there. There have been various attempts at the classification of demons within the contexts of classical mythology, demonology occultism,

and the Renaissance magic. These classifications may be for purposes of traditional medicine, exorcisms, ceremonial magic, witch hunts, lessons and morality, folklore, religious ritual, or combinations there of this is all from wiki.

Classification classifications might be according to astrological connections, elemental forms, noble titles, or parallels to the angelic hierarchy, which that's going to be real fun to research because I don't know shit about that, or by association with particular sins, diseases and other calamities, or by what angel or

Saint opposes them. Just f y i. The earliest known classifications of demons is the lantern of light in 1409 through 1410, the lantern of light, which is an anonymous English Lawlor tract, often attributed to John Wyclef provided a classification system based on the seven deadly sins known as the seven deadly devils or seven princes of hell with each demon tempting people by means of those sins. The list was later used in the works of John

Taylor, the water poet. And this initial list was Lucifer for pride, basil, bub for envy, Satan for wrath, which I thought Lucifer and Satan were the same thing. I guess not. Oh, Abidjan for sloth, Mammon for greed Belphegor for gluttony and Asmodeus. For lust. You used to be Catholic, so you probably know those words.

LA

I think Lucifer is Satan, son. That's all I was gonna say. Oh, okay. Or he was a thought he's a fallen angel of some sort.

Berly

Yeah, but I thought like, Lucifer was a fallen angel. And he turned into Satan. After he fell, oh, yeah, maybe

LA

that's it. That shows how much I paid attention. I

Berly

thought it was the same thing. But it lists This list shows it as two different things, which we need to we need to have our friend Sean come on here. He actually studied all of this in college and will be able to tell us a lot

LA

more about this. Is that still on with PDA? Or is it on like an actual,

Berly

this is still from Wikipedia. Okay. Bobby actually referenced the next list that I'm going to go to and that's from 1859 Peter Ben spilled a German auxilary, Bishop and theologian, published an influential list of demons and their associated sins, including the demons associated with the

seven deadly sins. So this list, even though it was later after the lantern of light, this list tends to be the more popular list and the one that most people will know about and it's the one Bobby talked about in the show. Lucifer is pride. Mammon is greed. Asmodeus is lust. Leviathan is envy. Basil, bub is gluttony, Satan is wrath. And Belphegor is sloth. I went ahead and pulled quick little descriptors of each of these guys. So Lucifer usually refers to the great Angel cast to hell.

However, in the two places in the Bible where the term appears, Isaiah 14 three dash 20 and two Peter 119. The word Lucifer means to the Morningstar, the appearance of Venus and Dawn. Only since the New Testament has the title changed to mean a demon responsible for the sin of pride. May Amman in the Christian Bible refers to wealth and greed. Matthew 624, personifies Mammon as a false

god. No man can serve two masters for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Asmodeus is the King of Demons appearing among other books in the Kabbalah and book of Taavet to EBIT, he is accountable for lust and distorts sexual desires. Those who succumb to these sins spend eternity in the second level of hell Leviathan is a sea monster and the gatekeeper to hell mentioned six times in the

Hebrew Bible. He is similar to serpent demons found in ancient Near Eastern mythology. The fire then, look, Basil bub, the name basil Bub literally translates to Lord of the Flies. He was a Semitic deity worshipped in the Philistine city, Akron, Basil Bob is responsible for sins of gluttony. He appears in the Bible and two kings one to go and consult basil Bob, the god of a cron to see if I will recover from this injury. I don't know what that quote is referring to. I just have the

quote. Satan is accountable for sins of wrath in the seven deadly sins exiled from heaven. See, it said Lucifer was exiled. What's the difference? Satan is the antagonist of God and tempts mankind to rebuff him. Revelations 12 Nine mentioned Satan, the dragon, that ancient serpent who is called the Devil and Satan, and later at 22 as the deceiver, and then Belphegor aids people in the creation of inventions to bring them wealth. His power is stronger in the

month of April. According to some 16th century demonologists been spilled, designated Belphegor as the demon of Sloth from a belief that Belphegor is seductions stem from laziness. He also symbolizes vanity. And that's it. That's all I got.

LA

Nice. Okay, well, to close that out. We've got a quote from Dean at the end of episode where he says you're alive. I feel good for the first time in a long time. I got a year to live Sam. I'd like to make the most of it. So what do you say we go kill some evil sons of bitches and raise a little hell Hmm.
