Berly

Music. Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares, Tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series, episode by episode, over

LA

drinks, we'll discuss the lore the gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly

I'm Burleigh and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA

I'm LA and I'm here long for the ride. Now let's get tipsy. Hello, LA, hello Burly. I i am begrudgingly saying that I am somewhat enjoying watching. Yay,

Berly

I've won you overweight sooner than I Oh, nor not there yet. Yeah,

LA

no. Oh, not all the way. I'm like, I'm not in. I'm not a fan just yet. But I have enjoyed these. What five episodes.

Berly

I think we're on six. Yeah, yeah, this is number six. I

LA

mean, I do enjoy looking at the boys. I'm gonna get you to a convention. We're going, Oh, my God, I'm so excited. We'll see about that. But no, it's been,

Berly

I haven't been to one. I mean, I just became a fan just recently. There was,

LA

I forget which episode I was like, I think in my notes, I was like, it's a meh episode.

Berly

We both thought, Phantom travelers, yes, yeah, the one with the planes, we were both kind of like this one's not really holding our attention.

LA

So, but yeah, so I'm, I'm getting slowly, but we'll, I can't say surely, but I'll slowly. I'm getting there. Nice. Should I give us everybody, a recap of last week. Yeah,

Berly

what was our last episode that we just watched? So it was the Bloody Mary,

LA

yes, that I covered. And we were in suburban Ohio, which wasn't the first, the one before that, in Ohio, too,

Berly

I don't remember. Oh, anyway,

LA

they're putting some

Berly

miles. They're all over this, yeah, like, all over Central US. We were in California, Colorado, yeah.

LA

So anyway, it was the three girls having a little sleepover. Did the Bloody Mary in the mirror, and then it led to her family and her older sister's friends that basically ended up being that bloody Mary was out for revenge from these people who had dealings with other people's murders. Yeah, murders, deaths, I should say,

Berly

Yeah, another vengeful spirit, yes, looking to take out their anger on anybody who they thought could potentially be guilty or feeling guilty. And

LA

Sam and Dean, they realized that the Bloody Mary had the power to travel through all their reflective surfaces, mirrors and whatnot, and she was hunting.

Berly

We also found out that Sam is keeping a secret. Yes,

LA

Sam's got secrets. Secrets don't make friends. Secret secrets

Berly

are no fun. Secret secrets hurt someone.

LA

It's gonna be Dean. It's gonna be you hurt Dean. Someone

Berly

hurt him.

LA

He's already got such a rough exterior, and he's holding a lot on himself, you know, anyway. But yeah,

Berly

we basically figure out Sam is kind of psychic that he's having, like, premonitions in his dreams.

LA

I don't like the way I just said, yeah.

Berly

It was fine,

LA

yeah. So we discover that, basically, once again, the guy saved the day. Kill Bloody Mary. They trap her in the original mirror that she was trapped in her spirit, bust it at their own detriment and leading eyes. You remember that song, oh yeah. And once again, they have to say goodbye to a pretty lady

Berly

she was a high school student. It's

LA

okay, so, yeah, it just ends up, once again, them saving the day, breaking the mirror, and they move on.

Berly

They broke like five to the next, how much of the next? How much seven years? Bad luck? Yeah, they broke a lot. They broke a five year,

LA

yeah? I mean, it's not looking good

Berly

for them. We'll see, we'll see. We know they've got like 15 seasons. Yeah. So that's gonna cover all the years. That's gonna cover all the years of bad luck that they've earned. 21 so for this episode, first of all, the name of the episode was skin. And I have to say, I was expecting so many good things that did not really come to fruition in this episode with a name, yeah, skin, yeah, yeah. So we'll talk about that a little

bit later. But the episode opens with kind of this crime scene in progress where a chick is tied up to a chair. You can't really she's bloody. You can't really see what's going on, but you figure out it's dean. And then they do a big reveal, where he looks over his shoulder, and it is, in fact, Dean, well, it's like the SWAT team coming in, yeah? And he's got this badass wiggly knife, knife. Oh no, that's

LA

a different one. Yeah,

Berly

the wiggly knife, he's got this really cool knife. It looks like it would be used in rituals or something. Yeah, it was really cool. It's like, what the fuck is going on here? Because. That's not what Dean, when just our dean. That's not our dean. What is happening? So then we cut to like the supernatural logo, and it says

one week earlier. So now we're our week in advance, and Sam is going through his BlackBerry with his little stylist pin thing, checking his emails from his friends at school, yes, and Dean's giving him a hard time for keeping in touch with his friends from college. Because he's like, so you're lying to them. And Sam's like, well, he's

LA

like, What do you tell him you're

Berly

doing? Yeah. He's like, you know, I

LA

just need time. After what happened to Jessica, I'm

Berly

just out with my brother, I just need some time. He's like, Oh, so you're lying to him. And Sam's like, Well, I'm not lying. I'm just not telling them everything. So already we've kind of got a difference. Of opinion here that Dean is like, well, if you're not telling them everything, you're

lying. You are lying. Yeah, Sam's going through his emails, and he sees one from his friend Becky, and she's talking about how her brother, Zach has been arrested for murder, but that it's not copacetic that her brother was with her all night. He could not have been two places, two places at once. So Sam is like, we should go check this out. Let's go to St Louis. And at first. Dean is like, this isn't really not our gig. Yeah, it's 400 miles the opposite direction. Why are we going? I'm doing

LA

a murder case, yeah, dealing spirits and demons and

Berly

whatnot. But Sam is like, It's my friend. We're going so good friends. Sam,

LA

yes, good

Berly

job. And I love that Dean, like, peels out of the gas station parking lot, runs a stop sign, and the camera pans out to show a sign that says, drive safe America.

LA

You had a good chuckle.

Berly

I did. I laughed my ass off. Honestly, I thought it was hilarious,

LA

and I didn't notice it. I was like, what she left? You had to rewind it for me. I

Berly

thought it was really funny. Yeah, they arrive and Becky explains to Sam and Dean that her brother Zach went home and found his girlfriend dead after he had been hanging out with Becky all night. She said he was here until at least midnight. There's no way he did this. So Sam is like, Hey, can we go get a look at the crime scene? And then, yet again, he's fibbing to his friend. He goes, Well, my brother's a cop,

LA

which gene clearly was not like. He was like, oh, okay, yeah.

Berly

But cop clearly hadn't discussed this in advance. Give me a heads up, bro. Dean just went with it, though. Yeah. So they go to the crime scene, and they're looking around. And while they're there, they're asking her the usual questions, right? Any weird smells? Did you see anything weird? What's going on? And she was like, Well, I mean, I can't say that I saw anything weird, but there was somebody who broke in, like, a week in advance and only stole my brother's clothes. It's like,

okay, that's weird. Uh, yeah, that's weird.

LA

Also backing up. I really like that. Dean took himself from a cop to a detective. Detective.

Berly

He promoted himself.

LA

He was like, Detective, actually off duty.

Berly

Well, then there's this dog going crazy outside, and so Dean kind of looks at the dog and it's like, what's going on here? And Becky says that used to be the absolute nicest dog ever, and now it's just constantly on edge. It's, you know, not being very friendly anymore. And as

LA

we know, dogs know shit. Okay, they know better than us. If your dog doesn't trust somebody, believe them, yeah, something's up. Be on guard when you're around that person.

Berly

And then dean asks, well, do you happen to know around when the dog started changing its behavior? And Becky goes, I guess it was around the time that the crime happened here, yeah, when it was, like, the neighbor's dog, right? Yeah, because I thought it was his dog, and I was concerned that they left it there to just No, because it was at the girlfriend's house, but I think they lived together or

something. Oh, is that? Oh, okay, I thought it was his Yes, it seemed like the dog was in like a neighboring side yard,

LA

yeah, because that's so important to the story. It's important to

Berly

you. That's what matters. So while they're talking it, Becky ends up confessing that she has the security footage of Zach leaving deemed and Sam were like, Oh, she's like, Yeah, like, I just saw it on his desk, and I really wanted to see it. So I She's like, I, she

LA

literally said I stole it, yeah.

Berly

She's like, I got it, yeah. So they're like, great. We don't have to talk to the lawyers. We've got the security footage now. It cuts to somewhere else in town where we see Zach, who supposedly is in jail for murder right now, dark and swarthy, yeah, looking really thick eyebrows,

LA

dark, dark hair. He's got

Berly

his music. He's got, like, I think he had earbuds in. He's like, jotting in a little pad. And he's watching this couple saying goodbye to each other, very eerie. And it's just kind of like, who How is? He here watching them because we saw we saw his picture in the apartment. There was a picture of Sam Becky and Zach on the fridge, so we know what he looks like. It's like he's supposed to

be in jail. How is he sitting here watching this couple, like being in this creepy stalker watching this couple, while he's watching this creepy couple, his eyes kind of like Blink, like a lizard eye or something, and they change color, yeah? So it's like, okay, who? Who is this? And it's like,

LA

they almost look like headlight eyes. Yeah, they

Berly

get really bright, yeah, for sure, what ends up happening is that later we see that girl tied up, just like we saw at the very beginning of the episode, tied up, she's getting cut up, and her boyfriend has come in and found her like this, and he takes her gag out of her mouth, and it's like, what's wrong? What's happening? And she goes, please, don't hurt me anymore. It's like, what? Yeah. And he looks really confused, and he's trying to figure out how to

untie her. And then he hears a noise, and so he turns around to go investigate the noise, and oh, it's him. It's fucking him. And

LA

as you You called him cheekbones.

Berly

It's Mr. Cheekbones, that's his name. So cheekbones turns the corner, and oh, there's another cheekbones there. And he's like, What the fuck yeah. It's a total spitting image of him. And so the guy, like, hits him and takes off. Yeah, so the doppelganger takes off running. Now we know there's some shady shit going on. And Dean, you were wrong. This is 100%

LA

Hey, he comes up. And, in fact, I liked it. He was like, hey, you know how I said, this isn't our gig or whatever, this

Berly

is our gig. Totally

LA

our gig. Yes, he

Berly

does. He admits it. Because whenever they get to the crime scene later, they find all this out. Sam and Dean are at Zach's house, and they're looking around again and they're trying to think, how could he have left and avoided being captured on camera there, it's early in the morning. Dean kept saying it's 530 in the morning. It was awfully sunny for 530 in the morning. Like,

LA

there's a lot of references to them being up at like 5am but the sun's out. I'm like, I Where are you even daylight savings? Like the sun's still not out at 530

Berly

right? Oh, so no, it wasn't the Zach sitting on the bench. It was the security tape footage where Sam caught Zach looking at the camera, and his eyes were messed up too. So they caught that there too. So that's when they know, like, okay, something shady is going on. So now they're back at the house. Excuse me, I had a I had a little bit of a brain fart there. So now they're back at the house going, Okay, so where did he go that that was the only time he got caught on the

camera. It was only that once one spot and Sam finds blood, like on a telephone pole, right? But there's not a trail to anywhere else, so they can't figure out where he went. And that's whenever they found out that there was another crime going on? Oh yeah, they see the ambulance go by, right? They see an ambulance go by, and they're like, let's follow that and find

out what's going on. And that's whenever they go to the crime where cheekbones and his girlfriend were there, and cheekbones is getting arrested, and Dean found out real cheekbones, not doppelganger, cheat codes. Doppelganger. He left him to take the fall. Yeah, he's gone. We don't know where he is. And Dean found out from one of the spectators outside what was going on that the guy had, you know, beat his girlfriend and was tied her up, and she was just like, he's the

nicest guy. I don't understand what happened. I don't get what's going on here. And Sam and Dean have kind of started to put two and two together that they are dealing with a shape shifter here at this new crime scene, they find another bloody trail, and this one has somewhere that they can follow, and it leads them to a manhole

that goes to the sewer. So they go in the sewer and we get our first skin shot, I guess we'll say of the episode, which was not the type of skin shot I wanted, but it's basically this liquefied, disgusting, snotty. It's

LA

like, it's like jelly, gross. Skin remains. Yeah, they shed the skin, and it's jelly. And it was

Berly

not here every time I saw it, yeah. I was like, when I saw skin on the episode title, this was not what I was expecting.

LA

Like, it is in the first pile. It has like an ear in it too, and I think

Berly

he, like, stuck his like knife in it or something, and, like, lifted it up. I was, like, so gross. Like, it,

LA

it's everywhere. It's all over the place. It's like, How many times did you shed this jelly skin and clean up after yourself? You

Berly

slob it's all over the place, your domain. You clean up, yeah, clean up after yourself. Like, I understand it's a sewer, but you're obviously hanging out. Down here quite a bit.

LA

Keep your space clean. Yeah, rude.

Berly

It's gross rude to be dirty in the sewer, your gross, psychopathic shape tissue like, clean up after yourself. Anyway, this confirms that they're dealing with a shape shifter. Then the shape shifter actually attacks them, like back, hands, cheekbones, they turn around and it's cheekbones with the weird eyes, and he like, basically backhands Dean, and Dean kind of falls into the wall, and somehow that hurts his shoulder. I still couldn't really figure out how that happened. I

LA

feel like he just like, smacked him, and he smacked into the metal thing, and maybe it just Yeah.

Berly

And so cheekbones takes off running, and he, like, bursts out of the manhole and takes off running. And I remember whenever he first came, you totally thought of Sam.

LA

I said, real nice. Sam just taken up later, Dean, I'm out of here. I was like, you had to correct me. And Toby, no, no, no,

Berly

that was cheekbones. So then Sam comes out of the manhole, and then dean comes out of the manhole, obviously struggling, because he hurt his arm somehow, but then he had no problem pointing with his left arm as to which direction cheekbones went. Must not hurt that bad, right? So they split up. Sam goes toward where cheekbones went, and Dean, Oh, no. Sam goes a different direction, and Dean goes toward where cheekbones went.

LA

I really like that. We're calling him cheekbones. That

Berly

was his name. Neither one of them are finding cheekbones. From what we can tell,

LA

they both have their fancy guns hiding them and right, but they're certain other guns are so pretty, yeah, they're like, I was gonna say embroidered.

Berly

They could be embroidered. Maybe they are, like, a

LA

carving in them, like the and, like a,

Berly

it's really pretty a pearl, yeah, or ivory, pearl or ivory, same thing. It was really pretty, really pretty gun. Anyway. So they reunite near the Impala, and Dean asked Sam for the keys, which all radios like, Why does Sam have the keys the same? Yeah, yeah. But Sam tosses the keys to Dean, and Dean catches the keys with his left hand, and Sam remembers Dean had hurt his left arm, so he's already suspicious, so he pulls

out a gun, or No. First, he asks Dean a question about an old case for other dad, and he purposely uses the wrong city whenever he's describing it. I think that he said Austin, and that Dean corrected him, No, San Antonio. No. He says San Antonio. He says San Antonio. And then dean corrected him that it was Austin. Oh, yeah, yeah. Doesn't matter to be wrong. Who cares? It doesn't really matter. It's like, oh, okay, I guess that is Dean. But then Sam is still suspecting that it's not

so he pulls a gun on Dean. You can't be too careful, right? And Dean tells him all this stuff that only dean would know. So Sam's like, kind of confused, and then he's, like, trying to decide if he's going to shoot him or not. And Dean, like, fake Dean, well, because he's kind of a pro bono he's

LA

like, Yeah, shoot me if you Yeah, do it. Do it. You're

Berly

so convinced, no, you're not going to do it, because it's not me, and like he ends up knocking Sam out, I think he hit him with a crowbar. Yeah, knocks out Sam. So now we know, okay, this isn't Dean. That ain't our dean, that's not our dean. Our dean wouldn't do that when Sam regains consciousness. Okay, I'm not into like, BDSM or anything, but, oh, he looked really hot when he was tied up, right? Okay, good. I wasn't crazy. I get on that, yeah, just the way

his neck had to be angled. Cut the anyways, so Sam, he looked real hot with that rope around his neck, you could get into it. I think it's just because his neck was on such good display.

LA

He's got it. Or was that a good was, like, immobile and you could do anything at lunch. Oh, my God,

Berly

I didn't even take it that far. LA, I think that's what it was, that paddle, that paddle. Lucky. I liked it. He's got a very good stature. Yes. I'm like, like, I said the rope he had, he had to look up. And he was kind of like, art, yeah, pushing his chest out. He's like, Oh, I'm trying to get free. What are we doing?

LA

Oh, my God.

Berly

Anyways, so Dean, fake Dean, is all like, yeah, I have his memories. And he does this weird thing with his face, and we can hear like these voices and everything. He's like, he's like, downloading stuff, basically, memories. Yeah, learning, yeah. He's like, as I become more like Dean. And he claims that Dean is like, angry at Sam for having left him to go to college and having opportunities Dean never had, which isn't necessarily untrue. But it's not like Dean hates Sam

or anything. So I feel like the shapeshifter was trying to, like, put a wedge between them, kind of that stuff, the shapeshifter leaves and basically is like, Oh, well, you know what Dean would do? He would totally fuck your friend if he had the chance. So I'm gonna go back. Back to Becky's place and see what's up. Bye, say something

LA

he would have boned her already. Yeah, yeah,

Berly

the shapeshifter goes to Becky's and flirts with her, and she lets him in because she thinks it's Dean. They're having a couple of drinks and talking in front of a fireplace. Can

LA

we just mention how she got so up in arms about how she called her lawyers and told them they went to the crime scene. I forgot about that. Yeah, no, this bothered me, so she's gets on the phone with Sam at one point, she's like, I call my lawyers and told them we went to the crime scene, dumbass. That's illegal first of all, so you're incriminating yourself in that. And then she tells them about what Dean Winchester is, a

detective and whatever. Yeah, she's like, and they said there's no record of him, so she's all pissed off at him or whatever. But I'm like, you dumb bitch, you're implicating yourself in that crime, because that is a crime. She

Berly

had no problem stealing evidence, right? But someone wants to be mad at them

LA

crime evidence from her lawyer. Didn't tell them that, but told the boys that she straight up stole it off the lawyer's desk, but then wanted to call and let them know that she broke, like, basically breaking entering a crime scene, like, you can't fucking do that. So, dumb, dumb, and Dean

Berly

did say, I don't have jurisdiction here, so, yeah,

LA

so that's on her, but that's just irritating me. Like, why would you tell your lawyer that? Right,

Berly

she's been all, like, really jeopardized my brother's case. And

LA

what I mean, I don't know how all that works, but it's like, if, like, are they legally obligated to, like, tell the cops? Like, Hey, she did this, you know, no, no, I don't, I guess, because she has them hired anyway. I just thought that was done. Maybe

Berly

she just thought it was important and that they should know. For some reason, I

LA

don't know. I don't know why. I don't get it, I don't understand it, and I don't like it. So there's that.

Berly

So back to Becky. So fake Dean and Becky are sitting on the couch talking, and he makes a move, and she's like, No. First of all, that

LA

move was a little weird, like he touched her face, but then it's like, he like, moved to, like, her hair.

Berly

It's like he said something, but we didn't get to hear what he said. Yeah, so I'm assuming he said something completely out of line and offensive to her, and we just didn't get to hear what that was. I would like to have known what was it, but it's shapeshifter. Dean, it's not real. Dean. It was creepy. Creepy Dean. So he attacks her for rejecting Him, and ties her up and gags her, and he put like, a headband on her, for some reason. Well, it's

LA

like the girl didn't get it, like the other girls, he beat her up, yeah, beats her up, cuts her all maintained, like she's bleeding for places, but he like, put something on her head. What

Berly

was that headband about? She

LA

had, like, a bandage on her arm. So it's like, you beat the shit out of these girls, but then you want to help. Like, what's that bleed? What's

Berly

happening? Because, yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't part of her gag or part of being tied, literally, like a couldn't quite figure out what was going on there, yeah? And so then the SWAT team, like, bursts in and fake Dean escapes and on foot, yeah? Well, he

LA

throws this fancy knife and throws

Berly

the knife, and then he kicks and all this, and he's out the door, out of the window, and he's on foot, running, and they're like, trying to shoot him up, but they're missing, and he's he's long gone. That

LA

was a great play by play between bullets, anyway.

Berly

So Becky's alive. She didn't get killed, right? She just got the shit beat out of her. So back in the sewer, Sam is like what we talked about earlier. He's struggling, trying to get free, and then we hear Dean start talking. It's like, what the hell? And he's covered with this tarp, okay, shakes it off, and the shape shifter has been running around dressed in Dean's clothing, right? So I was expecting under that tarp. We were gonna get a naked Dean,

right? No, apparently the shape shifter just found his jacket, the clone of the clothes, yeah, and he just had Dean's jacket. Dean had on his T shirt stuff first. So that was disappointing. Sam and Dean, they get loose of their binds or what have you, and they end up going back above ground because this was in the sewer. Still, they were in the shape shifters, gross, dirty domain. And they see on TV that the police are talking about this dangerous man and that we need to catch him.

And it's a sketch, basically, of Dean, because they think it's the shape shifter. And the SWAT team got a really good look at Dean, which I'm kind of curious. Who called the SWAT team? Why did they show up at Becky's place?

LA

Was it Sam?

Berly

No, Sam was tied up in the sewer. Yeah, good point. So I'm curious about that. Maybe they were like watching. Her for some reason, thought her brother was gonna try to kill her. I don't know, yeah, but anyway, that did kind of, I was kind of like, Huh? What's that about? Then they kind of figure out, well, it said the dude escaped on foot, so that means the Impala is probably still at Becky's. Let's go get the car

and get some weapons. So they go to Becky's, and the cops are watching Becky's house, so they spot them. So Dean runs one way, and Sam kind of distracts the police and basically lets them arrest him, because he's like, they can't hold me, like I didn't do anything. I'll just act like I don't know anything, like they can't hold me. It's fine, yeah. So then we see Dean going back to the sewer by himself, even though Sam specifically asked him not to, and he ends up finding Becky

there. And Sam had said, meet me at Becky's, like, run away. I'll get I'll deal with the police. I'll meet you later. We'll meet up at Becky's. So now Becky's there, and it cuts to Sam at Becky's talking to Becky, well, she can't be two places at once, right? So the shape shifter kidnapped Becky and is now pretending to be Becky. So Sam is with the shape shifter Dean is saving real Becky down in the sewer. Becky, fake Becky, Shapeshifter Becky kicks Sam's ass,

LA

right? But can we go back to the sewer? Where

Berly

we can go back to the sewer?

LA

Dean? What happened with Dean before we found out about Becky? What how he ripped himself up

Berly

after the shapeshifter escapes, it shows him go down to the sewer, and Dean finally takes his fucking shirt off. It's fake Dean, granted, but as a dean nonetheless, and it immediately gets ruined, yeah? Because he starts shape shifting into Becky,

LA

like you see, somewhat of his chest, but then fingernails are falling off, teeth popping out, yeah,

Berly

it's immediately ruined with the shape shifting. He pulls his ear off, skin off. I mean, it was a great scene, don't you? Literally, like, started taking his skin off, like it was a shirt. Yeah, it was an awesome shape shifting scene. But I'm just saying that's not what I wanted for my first topless Dean Winchester scene. I needed to see more before it all went away. I really hope this series makes it up to me. I'm upset. Uh, yeah.

So, yeah, we did. We did get the scene of the shape shifter transforming from Dean into Becky. So Becky kicks, kicks Sam's ass. And then the shape shifter transforms back into Dean, and somehow doesn't have to go through the disgusting transition, weird. And then the clothes changed magically, somehow, too. So that was kind of like, I mean, why isn't Dean in the girls clothes, right? Fake Dean, not real Dean. Yeah, this is getting confusing very

quickly. I'm sorry, real Dean shows up and shoots the creature who looks like him at this point in the chest with silver bullets that they said at the very beginning shape shifter, whether it's a werewolf or a regular shape shifter, it doesn't matter. Silver Bullets in the heart will kill it. Yeah. So they knew what they needed to do to kill it. And so he takes the shape shifter out, and then the police decide to release Zack, because now Dean Winchester is their number one suspect because

of what happened with Becky. And I guess Becky's just gonna keep her mouth shut, like her and Dean or not, her and Dean, her and Sam hug each other. She lets them know that they miss her, and Sam does his stroll to the car, which was nice. Well, Dean says something about missing his own funeral, so I guess they're gonna fake Dean's death or something. No, no. I

LA

think what he was saying because, like, he shot his his doppelganger or whatever. Oh,

Berly

that's right before the shape. So the shapeshifter still looked like him when they left, right? So they're very like, so they think Dean winchester's Dean, yeah, okay, okay, I didn't catch that already. That's what he meant, and that's basically the end of the episode. Yeah. I did want to touch on something when Sam and Dean became conscious, and they were both in the sewers, and Sam was explaining to Dean about how the shape shifter was actually kind of becoming Dean memories and

everything. Dean did say, like a Vulcan mind meld. Oh yeah. Which I haven't watched Star Trek in a very long time, so I had to Google what that was. Do you know what the Vulcans are in Star Trek? You've seen the Star Trek movies. I know you've seen the Star Trek movies. So the Zachary Quinto character, Spock, yeah. Oh yeah. So Spock is a Vulcan. And you know how they do the Vulcan nerve pinch, where they pinch the shoulder and you just, you just fall. So the

Vulcan mind melds. They, like put their hands on you, and basically they can merge their mind with the essence of another's mind, purely by using specialized contact via fingertip points. On a humanoid. It does specify on a humanoid, usually around the targeted partners, skull temples. So, yeah, interesting. So Little Star Trek reference, yeah,

LA

with the mind mode. When he said that, I was like, What the hell is that? Yeah,

Berly

I thought that too. I was like, Vulcan might. What is that? And so I googled it real quick. Ah, so that's the exploration of this episode. We didn't talk too much about things We adored, because the things we adored were quickly ruined by other things, which wasn't fun, and the gore, the skin, the gross skin stuff, that was the worst. It was pretty bad gore. I could normally deal with a bride, but that was pretty gross. What I did every time I saw Yeah, it wasn't that fun. So

let's dig into the lore. So LA, what you going to tell me about the lore? Well,

LA

the notion of shapes Shake, shake, shake. Literally, the notion of shape shifting has been around for nearly as long as human beings have been around. And the POS it's the possibility that a person can take the shape of another being, most often an animal, which that's why I

Berly

was thinking like where they mentioned, where the lore and everything of

LA

it is more animals than like, shifting into people, but it can be traced back to 1000s of years, permeating various cultures and religions, and it calls it at trans more morgification. Trans morgue morgification, sure, and it's been widely valued in various religious mythologies, and there's some evidence that it's had influence in pseudo historical records. It says pseudo historical and then in parentheses, possible historical records. Ooh, like thank you for

covering that. So humans and Neanderthals lived in Europe for 2000 years, and shape shifting appears very often in their fairy tales and myths and entails from Greek mythology is where it's kind of all stems from,

Berly

right? Because didn't, didn't Loki change it to Okay, okay, whoa.

LA

So Zeus, uh, first and foremost, he transformed into a lot of different creatures. He was a swan, a bull and an ant, which I thought was interesting, weird, but they be little, but they be mighty. And then, with the Egyptians, their gods were depicted with heads of animals, with the bird head being chorus and the dog head being Anubis, the Norseman, with the mischievous God Loki changing into a giant, a woman and various different animals.

Berly

Didn't he get pregnant whenever he was shape shifted once

LA

did he into the I got, I know in his show there's the Lady, lady Loki, so I don't know he

Berly

like shifted it. He shifted into a horse and got pregnant. What? Oh, wait, hang on, yes, sleep. Near. Slept near was the eight legged horse born of Loki and belonged to Odin. I was

LA

gonna say I know Odin, like in some of the depictions, the horse has a bunch of legs, more so than Loki

Berly

gave birth to. Slept near after turning himself into a female horse when his father demanded he sabotage the work of a craftsman from being able to complete the fortification of Asgard in one season. So, yeah. So Loki turned himself into a horse, got pregnant and then gave birth to a horse, eight legged

LA

horse. The eight legged his daddy, yeah, okay. I know I remember that eight legged horse. It was in one of the movies too.

Berly

I don't remember that, yeah, I think it was. I just remember hearing Loki, like, got pregnant. I think it was the first, when he was an

LA

horror movie that he was, he had a, like a horse when he showed up on, um, what's the other place where the the Giants were, like the ice giants, yeah,

Berly

jodenheim. Is that right? Is

LA

that right? I think you're right. I don't know.

Berly

I don't know. I

LA

think you're right. Anyway, back to Okay, so yeah, Loki, but it's considered that likely that the earliest depictions of shape shifting capabilities came from the cave of the Troy Perez. I'm probably not saying that right, because it's in French. It's in this is a cave located in southern France, you uncultured bitch. I know it. I'm sorry. I wish I knew how to speak French.

The purposes behind the images discovered there are constantly up for debate and are unlikely to be definitively decrypted in

the near future. Many scholars believe that some of these drawings indicate a prehistoric belief in the ritual of transformation, this theme of the shape shift, Shape Shifter, possessing other extraordinary powers, is common as well in all the tales of the shifters and the ability of the altar, the ability to alter the physical form tends to be indicative of the highest degree of knowledge these particularly involved evolved. Individuals can take on the role of some sort of shaman

in various cultures, huh? So you gotta be smart. I'm smart to shape shift,

Berly

yeah? Well, I mean, think about it, if you absorb the memories and the knowledge and the intellect, basically of other beings as you shift, yeah, I would think that'd make you pretty fucking smart, right?

LA

So shamans, most of the time, are revered for their wisdom, healing capabilities and powers of premonition, all possible because of their dual form abilities, like you just said, even though the actual job description of shamans varies depending on the cultures, they are considered always valuable and in many cases, in many cases, irreplaceable members of

their society. They're, I feel like a lot of times they're, they're almost like a doctor of the village, yeah, more so than, like, not just medicinal, but like, spiritual, yeah, spiritual, mental, yeah. They got it all covered, yeah. I like it. I want a shaman. They're known to take on transformative forms in ritual for many reasons, but it appears that they believe that they can alter their state of consciousness and interact with the supernatural

world. It's believed that without the gift of transformation, often brought on by the use of certain drugs or mental physical rituals, these shamans would not be able to achieve the necessary level of enlightenment to transform, huh? Tales of shape shifting could go on forever. I mean, we also have the countless tales of mythology like the Greeks. But then, as well as like the the main one that I think in modern culture

is the werewolf. This says there's something about a shape shifter, a person who can transform into any animal that captures our imagination, which leads to wanting us to howl at the moon or flit through the night like a bat. Werewolves, vampires, demons and other weird creatures appeal to our animal nature in our dark side, our desire to shape shifts, to be shape shifters, lurk deep in our psyches and remain formidable cultural icons.

Berly

That's crazy that goes that far back that cavemen were drawing pictures of people.

LA

When you think about shifting, what is the half horse, half man. What are those? Those are like, far back too. I think that's Greek as well, right? Is

Berly

that? Hang on,

LA

not manator, centaur,

Berly

centaur, yeah, centaurs, yeah.

LA

Is that Greek? I want to say it's Greek, yeah. Okay, yeah. I thought Yeah. In early cultures worldwide, seemingly allowed shaman, sorcerers, witches and wizards, to transform into these animals and then back again into themselves. But today, there are millions of people who believe that shape shifters walk among us and may even be world leaders, which we want

Berly

to know what we're talking about, we did an episode over on the tipsy exchange about lizard people, where we learned all about that.

LA

But so it basically just says, featuring a fantastic and ghoulish array of examples from our history, literature, film and TV and computer games now, shape shifters explore our secret desire to become something other than human, nice. So something in our deep in our psyche, that we want to be something else.

Berly

Well, it's like in our dreams when we fly and, yeah, you know, oh,

LA

my uncle, one of my uncles, is convinced. He's like, if I come back, I want to be a bird. He's like, I have these dreams all the time where I'm flying, and it just feels amazing like he's really into that. And he tells me about it all the time. He's like, I'm gonna come back. I want to come back as bird. Well, maybe

Berly

you were a bird right past life. Who knows? Yeah. Well, to close it out, got a quote from Dane, oh yeah. Dane Winchester, he said, whenever they were pursuing the shape shifter, yeah, Dean said to Sam, all right, but first I want to find that handsome devil and kick the holy crap out of him.

LA

I love that. Cheers. That's right, he is a handsome devil.

Berly

Thank you for listening to denim wrapped nightmares.
