Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.
over drinks, we'll discuss the lore of gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.
I'm burly, and I'm a new fan of the theory.
I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now, let's get tipsy. Hello. Hello Burly. On our last episode, Sam and Dean, were shocked to discover that there was a comic book series titled supernatural and pretty much followed their their whole lives. It was basically a book about them. And I tracked down the writer, Carver Edlund, and he explained that he has always had these visions of the brothers and he turned it into a comic book ends up that he is
actually Chuck Shirley. And Chuck reveals that Lilith is coming and she has a plan for Sam that do we Oh, for real this time. Yeah, that was her plan.
Today's episode is titled jump the shark. It's the 19th episode of season four and originally aired on April 23 2009. For those of you who don't know, jump the shark is an idiom used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show. When it begins to decline in quality that is beyond recovery. It is synonymous with the phrase, the beginning of the end, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe was from Happy Days where the Fonz surfing like in a surfing
competition or something. And literally, like jumped over a shark
really I don't I don't know anything about that. Yeah.
That's like we're jumped the shark came from was the funds literally jumping a shark in Happy days. And that was like the sign of the beginning at the end.
Everybody's like, okay, let's let's be realistic here, guys. I didn't know that. Fun. You learned something new a potential
fact from Burley spray. Which means fact check guys, because I am not certain of that.
I feel like fact check everything we know we use
should fact check everything. Exactly. So the episode opens up with a woman running in her house. Clearly freaked the fuck out. She's being chased by something. She is in scrubs, and white sneakers. And I'm like, Who is bothering this poor nurse. And then la politely pointed out to me or a doctor or a surgeon? Quit being sexist, burly. And I was like, I am so sorry. You are correct. How dare I not limit the potential the potential career of this woman? You were correct. You are correct. Shame
on me now. Anyhow, she runs into her bedroom and slams the door behind her. There's a giant arm more conveniently, the big one right next to the door. I knew she was going to move that bitch in front of the door. I knew it was way too close. Way too convenient. Way too focused in the shot. She moves it over. And then she feels like okay, I'm safe. She goes and sits on the bed. And we get a shot from under the bed showing her sweet little feet and ankles hanging
there. We immediately knew something bad's gonna happen. I've read that Achilles heel getting slashed. Urban Legend too many times something but something bad's gonna happen. And sure enough, something grabs her ankles from under the bed. She grabs the bedside table moves a little bit but that shits not anchored to the floor. It's not going to help her. She gets pulled under the bed and disappears. Oh, but didn't the
picture fall? Oh, yes. A picture that was on said nightstand, falls over and we see it's her with John Winchester. Jeffrey Dean, daddy Morgan, and we get supernatural pop up. So next, we've got Sam leaned up on the Impala aggressively brushing his teeth. Just saying there's a little more force going on there than was necessary. That's not good for your enamel. It's like, calm down.
It's got a lot going on in his mind.
There's a lot going. What's really going on.
It's all on his shoulders. Don't forget
Dean wakes up in the Impala his leather jacket. It's buttoned up and then it's not cuz he's sleeping. It was keeping him warm. But LA's theory LA's theory is that he buttons up his jacket when he's sleeping. I don't have a theory a little hug. I just made an observation. He's hungry. He wants to eat. Sam points out their sandwiches in the back. He pulls up brown paper bags smells lemons, like oh, it's tuna. So just be forewarned. As if you're not ready to eat it leave the
tuna in the can. Those sandwiches wouldn't have gone to waste. If they just waited until they were ready to eat it. You know, they're chit chatting, and they hear a phone ringing. Dean opens up the glove compartment pulls out one of the phones Sam's like isn't that dead spoon? Dance answers that there's a gentleman on the other end of the line insisting that he needs to speak to John Winchester, specifically, Dean let him know sorry, John
Winchester has passed on. And the person on the other end of the line, let him know that his name is Adam Milligan. And he is John Winchesters. Son. Next up, we're at a diner. Dean and Sam are there to meet Adam Milligan. Dean is convinced this is a trap. Oh, yeah. He is 100% doing everything he can prep. Yeah, he
is prepping, moving chairs
around to ensure that Adam is going to be sitting where he wants Adam to sit. He is dumping out the tap water and pouring in holy water switching out the silverware with pure silver. He's like if it's not a demon, it's a shapeshifter. Like something shady, something strange is afoot at the Circle K, and I'm going to figure out what this shit is. Whereas Sam is of the mind of hey, like, our dad wasn't a fucking Saint man.
Like he would leave it weeks at a time to think that he didn't like get it in somewhere and potentially spawn a new child. It's possible one slipped past the goalie. Yeah, yeah. Monday Calm down, Dean. Yeah. So they are not on the same page here. In theme with the rest of the season.
Yeah. Well, what did I say at one point, I was like, when was the last time these two got along? Yeah. Agreeing on anything.
Sam even points out. There's pages in dad's journal, where he's talking about going to Minnesota, Minnesota or Michigan, Minnesota. Okay, talking about going to this state where this kid is from. And then the next few pages are torn out. Conveniently for us to not see what was written down, which then has me thinking like, Oh, my goodness, John Winchester, you like went into your journal and like, wrote about having sex with this woman. You were like, so I went
to this town. And I was hunting and I was hunting this monster and he wrote about her. And while I was there, I met this chick. She's lovely.
Weicker, shaker again, she could
put her ankles behind her head I'm just like, trying to picture what were on those pages. I'm
not necessarily the dirty D
there was a nurse, right? And we played doctor. Get it?
Or maybe he's the nurse and she's the boss.
I gave her my magic vaccine. Oh, of semen. Oh. Okay, moving on. Adam enters the cafe played by the fabulous Mr. Jake Abel. I have to tell you guys, I was really looking forward to completely objectifying Mr. Jake Gable because he's made multiple posts on facial facial facial on social media where he is straight up said objectify me do it. Go for it. Oh, it was like Yes. Yes, King. I cannot objectify when I saw on this episode, though. He's just he's so young. And that hair is a bad
hair. It was a bad haircut. Oh, my goodness. And I've had bad haircuts. So that's not coming from a judgmental place. Give me Jake April's Instagram. I will go to town. Quite a difference, right? Yes. But this episode wasn't doing it for you know, he was great in the role. Yeah. But I just Yeah, I don't have anything to give you right now, Mr. Abel, as far as objectifying you. We will revisit that in a later episode. So he goes in, he sits down he introduces himself and he is not a demon. So he
passes the holy water test. He is not a shapeshifter. So he passes the silverware test. But Dean is still angry. He's still yells at him, and lets him know that they Sam and Dean. They are John sons. So who the fuck are you? He's like, I'm out of here. We gotta go. Let's leave. As they were trying to leave Adam yells after them. I'm John's kid and I can prove it. So they go to Adam's House actually his mother's house. I don't know if Adam was living with his mom
still at the time. And Adam is showing a picture of himself with John Winchester. at a baseball game Dean is crushed. Yeah, I literally cried during the scene. I mean, Jensen Ackles. It wasn't any dialogue. He did so much with his face so much with his face to just convey the heartbreak. Really? Like John Winchester never took Dean to a baseball game. I don't know that from anything that was said, but I know that from what Jensen Ackles did with his face.
Yeah. Where Adam was talking about his relationship with John and us knowing what we know about Dean and Sam's relationship.
It was sad well on how much he idolized his dad and then like, that was probably the relationship he actually wondered what was done with this kid got it. And he didn't. He asked
like multiple times, like he took you to a game. I was surprised when I teared up, I MPMs thing, but still, they're asking for more information about what's happened to his mom. How long has she been gone? When did she go missing? Yada yada, yada. And Adam lets them know that she wouldn't have left without just telling anybody, but it's like she fell off the face of the earth. It's not normal. So Sam and Dean are looking around the house
scouring for clues. And Adam lets them know the cops have already been through here and Dean lets him know, but they don't have our eyes. They don't know everything they should be looking for. As they're scouring through everything. And Adams just kind of like, Hey, you're a mechanic. I don't know what the fuck you're talking about with your eyes, but like, okay, whatever Dean happens to notice there's like scratch marks claw marks in the floor leading to
under the bed. Also, Sam found that there were grave robberies in the town in the 1990s. And they happen to see in one of the newspaper clippings that John Winchester was at the scene of the crime. Yeah. So they have a feeling we're investigating. Potentially the same monster that dad was back in the 90s. When they're looking at where the claw marks are going, kind of following that lead. They throw over the mattress. There was no boxspring
I don't have about spring. You don't just have a have a pretty tall stand.
What are box springs do? What's the purpose?
I think it's when you have the railing and they're so low to the ground. You need the box spring for support to make it up high enough for you to
do I have let me go. I don't have a bug.
It's not that weird. Back then, though. I feel like I don't. It seemed like back then. Like those days.
1009. Yeah, yeah. Anyway, they find a vent under the bed. Fancy bed. It's a really cute. Big was a big vent. Sam and Dean do rock paper scissors to figure out who's going to investigate this vent, because clearly some shit went down.
I liked that. They didn't even like say anything. They just opened the vent, looked at each other and then just started playing rock, paper scissors or like not a word,
Dean loss. So he became the John McClane of this episode, he had to go into the vents with a little flashlight. Yeah, so he's going down the vents and like you see there's a bit of blood. So it's like already like, Oh, that's not good. Not good. But it keeps going. He looks to the right. And it's another vent with another great, leading into another room. And then he looks to the left and oh, there's a femur. And a whole bunch of blood and chunks of stuff.
I was like, I was like it's only one body parts. Its body
pieces. Like chunks of stuff. Yeah, there's like hair. There was some hair standing up. Whoever made the chunks and stuff. You did good. Yeah. I 100% believed that was like leftovers from a body being chunked over and eaten up and ground on and whatever. Yeah, it was gross. So they figure out that the pages torn out of John's journal. Were the ones that would have told them what they were there to hunt. I think it would have had, I think it would have also included his
rendezvous. Yeah, some details, some raunchy details. Why else? Would he have torn them out? If it just talked about the monster? And that was it? Because why would you tear them out?
Like I said he probably he probably wrote about meeting her and liking her and I don't know if it would, he went into details. But who knows?
I think he did. Okay. John Winchester just strikes me as that kind of dude,
just this one lady is the only one he did dig down and wrote about in his head.
We don't know that there aren't other pages torn out.
Or they haven't looked through the whole thing. We're just going.
This is the first time they've mentioned anything about pages being torn out. I'm just saying true. They didn't say this is the only place in his entire journal where pages have been torn out.
I've never really had a journal or diary. So I don't know how that works, how detailed or what people put in them.
I mean, there were a lot of words. So I assume that John Winchester got really detailed as all I'm saying, okay. But anyhow, Do they kind of figure out that like, corpse corpse snatching has started up again, which is what was apparently going on in the 90s. Whenever John was there the first time because three bodies have disappeared from the local cemetery within the past month, they assume Okay, well, whatever it was, we don't know about because these pages are missing.
John must have not killed it. And it must be back 20 years later, Sam hypothesizes that whatever they're hunting has moved up from corpses to quote, fresh meat. And literally why it went after Adams mom, as well as a local bartender. So back in their motel room, Sam and Dean are hanging out polishing their guns.
So Salman, what's his name? Adam?
Not yet. Oh, there's a knock at the door. Oh, that's Adam. Okay. And Dean tries to cover up guns can inconspicuously just like tosses like a little cloth over like, let me just like, fold this over guns over here. Don't Don't look behind the curtain. Yeah. At Adams like trying to be like, calm down, dude. It's okay. I want to know how the fuck you knew what you were looking for? Why did you know what to look for? That the cops didn't know what to look for. I heard you guys talking about grave
robberies. And I don't think you're mechanics at all. And Sam and Dean just kind of look at each other. So Adam says, Can you please just tell me what the fuck is going on? I want to know what's happening, please. And Sam says, okay, you've gotten it out of us. We're hunters. Dean tries to stop Sam. from, like, just spilling the beans. Yeah. But Sam was like, No, he deserves to know. He's a Winchester. We hunt things. We save people. It's the family
business. And Dean just shakes his head and Adam is confused. He just not interesting. Well, yeah. So Sam, like breaks it all down for him. And you called it later in the episode where you were like, Sam is enjoying being the bigger brother, the one who gets to teach stuff.
This is when Dean kept giving him like these intense looks that I was like, Oh, I like
like that. They were very intense. And then when he like stood up and like charged toward them. I was like, Oh, my rewind. Yeah, we had them do it again. The power of Rewind and play. I also thought it was cute, you know, because they're saying like, the only gonna rely on his family and all that. Oh, yeah. And Adam said that he believes them because they're his brothers. Right? Just like that. Which, you know, we find out later. He's playing with them the whole time.
Yeah.
So I think that's interesting.
Like, normally, if somebody like strangers told you this, you'd be like, okay, yeah, cool guy. I'm gonna go right. Later.
I hate to admit there were so many times in this episode, where I wasn't paying attention to what was being said, Adam's hair. I just,
it was distracting. Who did? That was the word. Was
that a wig? Was it just a terrible haircut? Jake evil what was going on? I just I couldn't Yeah, it was pretty bad. Anyway, Sam and Dean are letting Adam know that they aren't really sure what happened to his mom, but they're pretty sure that whatever it is, is stealing bodies living and dead. And that there's a long list of potential suspects. So I'm like, what is on that list? They were like trying to make it seem like they could narrowed it down. What else does that? Yeah, that's
scary. Yeah, true. Yeah.
Think about that. Think about it that way.
And it was sad when Adam asked like, well, but is it possible my mom's still alive, and they just like, couldn't say anything. I was sad. So he got the message that, you know, she's probably not alive. She's gone, buddy. And Dean is trying to drive home the point like, listen, Dad was trying to protect him from this life. I feel like we should honor that and not pull him into the hunting lifestyle. But Sam is just like, No, no, no. I'm gonna keep telling him everything.
Yeah, I'm gonna give him the same speech. The dad gave me
that exact same one. And he's gonna teach him everything and protect them just like Dean did. Yeah, we're gonna run.
So Dean is just like, Okay, I am upset. I don't like this. And he leaves Sam alone with Adam to do everything that Sam wanted to do.
Sounds like let's start at
the beginning. Well, Adam is like, Is he always like that? And Sam's like, welcome to the family.
Get used to it. When he pulls
out a gun. It's like all right. Lesson number one,
to take this baby apart. Planum Cox. Like cars
go. Let me tell you what I know about revenge.
Yeah, that's a lot for the first day.
Chill out poor Adam, man for Adam. So in the meantime, Dean goes and visits the cemetery. And at first we thought he was dressed as a priest again. But no, he was just an another suit pretending to be an agent.
Like what's wrong with me that I got a little excited when I saw that he was a priest again. And then when I saw it wasn't I was disappointed. Yeah.
As soon as you saw the tie, it was just like, Oh, bummer. Something's wrong. Back to the costumes, guys. The suits are nice, but come on. Yeah. So the director at the mausoleum cemetery, whatever you want to call it is showing him around and explaining like, where the bodies disappeared, how they disappeared, explaining that they didn't just take the bodies, they took them apart. I think that's the word he used. Because there was like blood on the outside of one of the things is embalming
fluid. Oh, is
that what it was? Which gross? Yeah. Then we see Dean go to a bar, which considering the bartender was the other party that disappeared. This makes sense. But as he's talking with the existing bartender, it turns out, this is the wife of a cop who was working the case back when John Winchester was in town. And he just seemed like he was the sweetest little fella. So cute, this cop guy. And she's talking about the case and says that he wouldn't talk about
anything for years. But he finally admitted that he had had some help when he was like the first one to go missing now, right? Well, he was a bartender at the time, right? He was a cop back in the 90s. Right? And yeah,
and now he's a bartender, but he's missing. Yes. Yeah.
Back in the motel room. Sam is still corrupting Adam, being like, this is how you clean a gun. These are all the monsters that are out there. And it was a demon that killed your father. Oh, this is what we did to get revenge on it. Dean killed it. And Adam says, so it's over for you. It sounds like it's never over Nieva. Then the lights go out. And they hear like creaking going on. Seems like it's here. It's in the vents. And he just randomly fires off a shotgun blast toward
the vent. And they run out of the motel room. And he's like, Where's your car and Adams like it's over there. He tosses the keys to Sam. And as he's trying to get the keys in the door to get it open. He gets grabbed and like somebody's pulling him under the truck. And he's yelling and he's screaming and Adam comes running around the side and Dean just happens to pull up of course and the nick of time to get out of the car. And come help Adam drag Sam out from underneath the truck. And
LA was all like, Oh, What? What? You needed help, Sam? No.
Do you need a dean? Dean's help now. I thought you had everything under control. Dean. Dean can't help. He's not he's not strong enough. You got it?
Apparently not. Yeah. So they move the truck and they see that there's a giant open manhole underneath it. So they're like okay, so obviously this trap was set here for Adam that like whatever this monster is was sitting here waiting trying to catch him. They go back to the Milligan's house, and Dean since Adam to go gather some stuff, and he says we're
gonna take you to Bobby's. Sam is sat down at a table taping up his ankle, his ankle, which got beat up whenever somebody tried to snatch him, and tells him You know what, we shouldn't leave. And Dean is like, No, fuck you. We're gonna get Adam to somewhere safe. And then you and I will come back here and finish the job that dad started. But Sam is pointing out that we should use our brother as bait. This is what it's after. Let's keep him here so that we can kill whatever it is. And Dean is
just like, What the fuck? And Sam was like, yeah, no, we should use him as bait. And then we should train him to fight
deeds. Like, I don't know how many ways I need to tell you that this is not what dad wanted.
Yeah. So it was just like, No, no, no, let's train him to be a hunter. Because he might want to get revenge too. That's what we do. That's what we should do it Adam over. Here's everything and it's like, I'll do it. Like whatever it takes. I'm gonna do it. I want to get revenge from my mom. So Sam is just like, yeah, see? Right. That's good. So Dean does not participate in this quote unquote, training of Adam. He's just like, No, you can shoot guns. I'm going to shoot disappointed looks
as much as say he soaks over and just like stares and watches it but he's not participated.
And Adam is apparently just like a natural with a gun. Oh, convenient. Yeah, just like hitting bullseye. Sam's just like yeah, first try. Come on. Adams like beginner's luck. It seems like oh, no, like your Winchester. It's in your blood. None of this actually was sad. Sam was real proud of his little brother, teaching him to be a hunter and
All that he is loving his new role as big brother.
He gives them a speech where he's like, you can't have a girlfriend. You can't have any kind of connection. So you got to cut all that shit off. The only thing you can count on is family. I'm just like, is this the Fast and Furious? What is happening? Yep. Dean grabs Sam and pulls him aside and it's like, What the fuck, bro? That is the exact same speech that dad gave you literally before you ran away to Stanford. Sam was just like, on a man. That was right. I see now.
Dean's like, Okay, now you see now you think dad's this great guy that was doing all this,
which is like, it's kind of sad. But it's also like, is that partially from trauma of what happened to Jessica? What happened to Madison, what's happened to every person that Sam has allowed himself to be open to, since he apparently ran away from home?
He's just like, warning against all the things that he's had to go through, basically, I guess, you know,
So yet again, the Winchester brothers are at odds this season for like the time Yeah. Dean wants to protect Adam, keep him from this Hunter lifestyle. Sam is just like, Nope, he's in. He's in. He's a Winchester. That means this is his gig family business. This was going to happen. So Dean, you know, he gets pissed off and storms out again. He's like, so angry. I'm so mad. I guess I'm gonna go back to this mausoleum. Back in the tombs. He's checking
shit out. And he happens to find a tunnel that leads to a hidden room, which is giving very Indiana Jones vibes. Yeah, I liked it. So he crawls in, and he finds a severed arm on the ground with a pair of eyeglasses that look just like the eyeglasses from the cute little adorable cop who worked with John Winchester to try and solve the case the first time slash bartender who had recently gone missing now, as he's kind of assessing the scene and realizing whose body this is
that he just stumbled upon. You hear the concrete blocks moving and it shows a shot down the tunnel that he came. You can see it like sliding in like Tetris style, that somebody over there is ceiling Dean back into this fucking room. And so Dean pulls out his gun just start shooting as one would do. And dirt falls in and just completely collapses the tunnel so he can't go back out the way he came Trent. Back
at the house. Sam and Adam are closing everything off because again, they've decided whatever this is, it's coming for Adam. salt in the place. Everything seal every entrance except for the vent, where his mother was pulled down. They left that open. So Sam was like, okay, so whatever it is, in order for it to get in this fucking house. It has to come through this entrance. Right after they have finalized the plan. They've sealed everything else off. They're here. We hear somebody
screaming from downstairs. Adam goes tearing us downstairs because he's like, that's my mom. They get down to the kitchen. And she's there and her stomach looks bloody. She's in the blue scrubs. And Sam has his gun up and ready. It's like that is not your mom. And Adam is just like, No like it is like, look, it's her. It's her. Sam gets closer with his shotgun. It's just like no like, Adam step away. That's not your mom. And Adam gets the gun away from Sam.
It was like quicks very quick.
Yeah. Yes, it has bled remember. Oh, yeah. Except for it's not really him. So he's going back and forth between Sam and his mom with the gun is acting very distraught, very confused, Sam's yelling at him. It's not as mom. The mom is being like, Baby like, I love you. Just going back forth. And Sam yells, that's not your mom. That's not even human. And Adam pauses, he has a gun pointed at his mom. And he almost marks it's really well done. And he says, I know. And he turns the gun on me better.
Yeah. Before that. Yeah,
it was super super well, like just I love it whenever somebody can just change their facial expressions like that to where you can automatically know like, oh fuck, which is what you and I both did. Like he made that face. And you and I both went, Oh, fuck. And then he knocked Sam out with a shotgun. So Dean is still locked down in this secret room and the tombs where he's found this body and there's other coffins down here. He opens one up, and he sees
that it's Adams mom, Kate. But then we also find out there's another coffin, which has Adam's body in it. So Adam is also not who he said he was going to be. So we know he's not a demon. We know he's not a shapeshifter. And now we know he's not Adam. So what the fuck is here? We find out based off of what's happening with the house. else that he is a cool. In the world of supernatural a ghoul takes on the form of the last body they
consumed. So these two goals eight, Adam and the mom, and they're talking about how their friend I can't remember if it was their friend or their dad or whatever got killed by John Winchester, and they were seeking revenge. So first they went after John Winchesters cop friend, which is the bartender who we know got eaten. Then they went after his sidepiece which is the mom and then they went after his son, and then they were planning to go after John Winchester himself, but that
asshole already died. So they were like, I guess his son's next best thing will be the next best thing. Exactly. So they have Sammy all tied up cutting into him and sucking his blood and being all like, he tastes different. Which ill but doesn't stop or like he said, No, she kept diving in for more. It didn't stop her. So apparently it didn't taste bad. And then they like sliced open his forearm like it made me clench
everything. Yeah, Chuck, while they're giving their whole, like villain speech and everything that they're doing. And then Meantime, Dean has found a stained glass window and the roof of the secret room that he's locked in. And it was an angel on the seeing glass window. At least that's what I thought it was. We didn't get very clear shot of it, but it looked like it was an angel to me. So I was like, Oh, he's gonna pray to Castile again. But
that's not what happened. He just smashed the stained glass window and lifted himself like the core work.
Yeah, I was like you're gonna have some ads do that. That he did it.
Oh, I don't know if they knew how hot that was. They could have given me a little bit more visibility of all of that. It was real hot. He smashed the window reaches his hands up and just like lifts his lower body Oh, into the winter escaped, sir. Oh, sexy. So he goes to the house and he sees his brother tied up and he's just like course, yet again. He goes in there and he like blasts Kate's head right off her body.
Just gone he's not expecting that.
are just like a shotgun can do that. Like what?
How do you like literally just hurt neck was still there?
Yeah, I'm still not quite sure how that happened. Maybe it's because they were cool. Yeah, I don't know.
Oh, and they did say when they were taunting Sam while they were cutting them up and everything. The girl Google did tell him like Adam really was his brother. Oh, yeah. Like you should know that. He really was your brother.
They they really drove that home but he really is a Winchester he really was your brother. Yeah, shot to the head is how you kill cools. Apparently that's why St. When Sam well when Sammy like yell like their goals like Dean changed his shot. So maybe it is like a goal. Their heads gonna blow up. And he kills Adam as well by like, beating his head in with a lamp base. So I guess was that what it was? I thought it was the gun. Maybe it was the gun. No, you're probably right.
He smashed his head in with someone with a blunt instrument. It was either the gun or a lamp. Yeah, the end. They are burning. Only Adam's body. I was like, why are y'all not burning? All of them? Like, Oh, I understand.
Well, I think it was Didn't they say like, since he was their brother, he gets a Hunter's death.
Yeah, but then that means that like if Kate wants to be a vengeful spirit, then more power to her. But like we're gonna make sure Adam doesn't come back and haunt people. I was just saying like, how much harder would it have been to just pull up all the bodies true? Burn all of them. Make sure that none of them come back? Well, it's
your brother. It's gonna be special.
I guess so. So they give Adam a hunter's funeral. And Dean is talking about how he worship their dad that he's dressed like him. He's listening to the same music as him drove this car as him. But Sam is more like their dad than he ever could be. This episode was written by Andrew dabb and Daniel Loughlin, who also together wrote yellow fever and afterschool special and it was directed by Mr. Phil sick Risha, who gave us a few of our favorites. Oh, ghost phasers. And of course feel so Grecia gave us the kitchen scene. The kitchen meet cute. We love love. Alright, so core I think the slicing of Sammys forearm was the glorious thing to happen in this episode. Yeah, I watched everything
that and then like seeing the pieces of his mom and the venom yeah
it's pretty bad. Yeah, well in anything but Dean in the hidden room within the Mazel Yeah, all
of that. Oh, yeah. Because like their guts were out of their
just their dead faces to just there was there is plenty of Gore in this, but it was well done. It was like tasteful gore. The only Gore that like literally made me clench and I had to look away from the screen is when they slice sammies far Yeah, yeah fame like I don't know how they did that. I don't know if that was a prosthetic. It was well done like that looked real. It was good. It was good. Unbelievable. Was there anything you adored about this episode?
I liked that Dean was trying to be protective of Adam and just trying to keep him from the world.
And I liked seeing Sam kind of take on the mentor role.
That's true. That was cute he was he's Brill into being an older brother. Yeah,
seeing him kind of coach somebody into being a hunter. I liked both of them. It was it was a cute episode. I enjoyed the episode and Jake evils performance. hated that haircut. Jake Abel certainly gets better with age, but his performance. Oh, yeah, I enjoyed. I believed the little brother act. I believed the evil goal performance switch. Yeah, between the two. Yeah, definitely. I enjoyed the performance. Yes. So looking forward to seeing JK bowl later.
I was gonna say I feel like in pictures, I've seen that he's on the show and another aspect of some sort. So he's not dead.
I mean, I think he is. I mean, that was his body. And they burned it, right.
I mean, yeah. Listen, anything can happen on the show. So yeah,
like I told you like, part of the reason why I started it over is because they kept bringing in characters that clearly I was supposed to know who they were. They had no fucking idea was happening. So what about what about lore? What do you have for us?
All right, well, we're gonna talk about ghouls. Often when we talk about ghouls, the word is like a catch all for Halloween horrors, morbid souls, or like a specific creature from a myth or legend. It's neither a vampire nor a zombie, but a creature somewhere in between. They have ancient origins and Middle Eastern folklore to modern retellings to horror fiction. They have haunted the shadows of human death for millennia.
It makes sense that you're saying there's somewhere between a zombie and a vampire because like the way they were sucking his blood like crazy, but also they had completely like disembowelled, those other corpses to them. Look, oh,
as you just said, it says, this says they feasted in catacombs. They've fatten themselves in the wake of conquering armies. they've shifted forms with arcane magic and honeycombed the hills with their vile tunnels and layers. Now, modern science has yet to study the anatomy of a goal or even acknowledged its existence
You don't say.
However, horror stories and folk tales provide very descriptions, but it's difficult to say one source accurately describes a goal subspecies and another heirs entirely but for the most part, however, this is what we know. So for their appearance, some goal I keep saying, like I want to say goals or souls for some reason, I'm like, Okay, now let's just say souls. Some souls define ghouls as evil spirits, rather than the undead creatures that most
people account for them. They're generally slumped by PTL humanoids. Although they often scramble and crawl on all fours due to their stealthy nature and tendency to occupy cramped tunnels and tombs. Makes sense for the vents?
What does it say about their hair?
Let's see. Oh, my God. That took me a second. Okay, so
you literally look like wait a minute, let me oh
my god. Okay. Oh,
we love you. Jay Gable.
Yeah. All right. Well, their bodies may appear emaciated and dog like they're particularly gluttonous or powerful, and they may grow quite bad on indecent delicacies. Their skin may be gray or pale and the flesh itself may appear hairless, rubbery or even scaly. Yes sexy. Or did you say more?
But my mouth was closed. Okay,
Middle East or to hills to pick them as hairy ogres. But their exact features seem to differ as well from nearly human to be steel and canine their diet. Like many monsters of Legends, they crave human flesh. But what sets them apart from other mythical man eaters is their preference for scavenged carry on scavengers, they won't turn down a living meal if it presents itself. Their bodies are largely adapted for a diet
of corpses. sizable claws enable them to dig through the dirt Oh through the earth, and their enhanced strength allows them to rip through most caskets. Okay, that reminds
me of the aggressive fingering
Oh yeah, when pokin Sam Yeah, yeah.
Were Adam was like really digging in. I was just like that is aggressive fingering. No one likes that. Just FYI guys. Yep. But now we know it's because he was a ghoul right? Yeah,
they have powerful jaws and are often BC BC steel teeth make short work of cadavers which they gobble up bones and all
these were sloppy goals in this episode then because they left a bunch of shit behind Yeah,
their habitat they frequent places of human death and misery, especially if the location affords them steady access to fresh graves. They're nocturnal by nature, and they typically avoid sunlight and maintain a network of tunnels to creep about below ground. Their intelligence varies greatly among the creatures depending on the account. In some tales, they're no more than primitive beasts ruled by their hunger, while others afford them language, reason and grisly senses of humor. I guess that
was them. In that episode,
Adam was pretty witty, it seemed like
self defense adaptations, their stench is enough to overpower most humans, and some boast a paralyzing touch. Occasionally, they use simple weapons such as spears, but mostly they depend on their powerful filth tipped claws to fend off adversaries. Factor in a deadly bite and the ghoul makes for a fearsome opponent.
So not only was he aggressively fingering, Sam, yeah, but his fingers were dirty.
Yeah. Rose in his blood and everything too. Yeah, anyway, they're magical powers. Some stories describe an even more devious power of the fiends the ability to shapeshift Oh, goals used this nifty trick to deceive humans and lower them to their
deaths. More modern reports like fantasy fiction and horror, endow ghouls with the power to absorb the memories of the dead through their ingestion of sense organs, and describing the more spirit like ghouls some Arabic tales attribute them to the power to have the power to demonically possessed the human as well. Oh, both male and female goals exist and may even exhibit carnal desires, but their sexual encounters seem to
rarely result in offspring. The author Brian McNaughton writes that such progeny are typically formless things and generally consumed immediately by their mothers. And in his short stories, one of them the throne of bones deals in part with the birth of a rare ghoul, human hybrid. The creature barely survives the envious wrath of its fellow ghouls. And then it talks about like creationist schools, casual goals, pathogenic goals. I mean, it just goes on and on. So lot.
Yeah. I just go on with like the general look and whatever about them. So if you want to learn more, go check it out.
Our Tumblr, we have all of our sources on our Tumblr. Yeah, for every episode, it's like eight pages long or more. goals have quite the history. It turns out. Goodness. All right. Well, to close it out. At the end, when Dean is telling Sam that he's more like John Winchester than Dean could ever be. Sam says, I'll take that as a compliment.
And Dean says, you can take it any way you want. Ooh, burn chair,
years. Thank you for listening to denim wrapped nightmares.
