Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.
over drinks, we'll discuss the lore of gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.
I'm burly, and I'm a new fan of the series.
I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy.
Hello la Hello Burley.
So the last episode, hunters were being killed. The spirits of Meghan agent Hendrickson came back, a accused Winchesters of failing them, but the guys pulled together to say Bobby because Bobby was too crippled with guilt to fight off the two young children he couldn't save that came back for him. That's pretty much it.
Today's episode is titled In the beginning, it's the third episode of season four. It aired on October 2 2008. The episode opens up with Sam acting like the shittiest of shady Yeah, just even the way he was walking seemed super villainous to me. was just like, do they not want us to like Sam this season? I don't understand what's happening. Like they do. Dean is asleep on one of the beds and he's using his jacket. his leather jacket is a blanket fully clothed, shoes on and
everything. Sam like creeps out of the hotel room. He does this final dramatic look back while he's out the door, looking through another fabulous little partition wall thing and all of their motel rooms they have these and he works outside where Ruby is waiting. And she's like, are you ready? He says definitely is like what is happening?
I do not know. I don't think it's on anything good.
It doesn't seem like it. Especially by the end of this episode. It doesn't seem like it's anything good. Yeah. Next up, Dean is awoken yet again by a rustling a flapping a flap flap flap about that another
late night meet cute, huh?
He's having a nightmare. Whenever he's awoken. We're seeing really quick flashes of hell again, where you can't really see what's happening. It's just really close in on his face. But you know, that's where he is what he's dreaming of. And he awakes to Castiel sitting on the edge of his bed. And he says, What were you dreaming about?
He's such a flirt.
Oh my goodness. Dean is like what you get your rocks off like watching people sleep. What's happening? What are you doing?
He secretly liked it.
Oh my god. I know I would. I would wake up and be like, What are you doing way over there? Yeah, let's close was close these this little gap here. So cast yell after Dean asked someone what he's doing. He tells him You have to stop it. Dean's like stop what? He takes two fingers and presses them to Dean's forehead. Then suddenly Dean is waking up. It's bright. It's sunny out. We've gone from middle of the night to middle of the day. And he's sleeping on a bench like a bus
stop. I think it was a police officers like poking him with this little nightstick thing. It's like, Hey, you can't sleep here. He's got his little jacket for a blanket again. Dean says Where's here and like I was like, I don't know. You can't sleep here. Get out of here. So Dean is really confused. He doesn't know what's happening. He gets up puts his jacket on. Can we talk about the pop collar for a second? Yeah, I don't like it. I don't like it either. I just want to fold it every time
he has a jacket on. It's
distracting. Okay, good.
I'm glad we settled. It was really important. As he's walking off, we see that the bench says you know, sugar free tab. So we know he's time traveled. We've got our back to the future episode. He goes into a diner and there's a very handsome man sitting at the bar. La was incredibly happy with this casting. Yes. Do you ship yourself with that John Winchester that I would Mm hmm.
And he's because he's such a nice guy. She said.
You're just you're just a Winchester fan. You like those? Winchesters? Yeah. Shout out Matt Cohen. He sits down. And he asks the gentleman, where am I? And he's like, you're a Jaybirds diner. And he's like, Yeah, I'm in city and state. Because like Lawrence, Kansas, and Dean pulls out his phone and flips it open. It's like do you know where I can get six on this thing? And John says the USS Enterprise which I just thought was hilarious. I enjoyed this little exchange this whole thing this
whole thing. So then John calls the guy over who's working the calendar and asks to he's like, let me get you a coffee gets you in a coffee. The guy comes walking over and he is dressed in his hippie chic finest. And do you says, Hey, nice threads didn't you know Sonny and Cher broke up? John looks at Dean and just like Sonny and Cher broke up, and he's really upset.
Which if I saw that guy delivering like my coffee, I'd be like, Wait a minute.
Yeah. It wasn't until he didn't notice it until after.
I mean, it's very obvious.
That's finally whenever Dean started looking around and being aware of his surroundings, which you're a hunter, I would think that would have been the first thing you would have done when you woke up on a bench and didn't know where you were. Castile threw him? Yeah, for a loop. I would just I was shocked that he didn't like monitor his what's the word survey? Ding Yeah, survey his surroundings until this point until these people were startled to that. He said Sonny and Cher broke up.
This is what keyed him in? I guess. So yeah, my goodness. He looks at the newspaper and it says it's 1973. So he's just like, 1973. But the clock is happening. Well, then someone comes in and is like, hey, Winchester. So Dean and John look over their shoulder and are like, hey, and so the guy is obviously talking to John, not Dean, because nobody here knows who the fuck Dean is. That's whenever Dean realizes he's been sitting next to his dad, because
Dean is just staring at him. And it's just getting really uncomfortable. John is weirded out and decides to leave. But unfortunately for John Dean follows him out of the diner. He's tailing him. John turns a corner. And as Dean turns the corner, ooh, guess who's decided to pop in again? He really pops it out. Yeah, he does. He can pop in on me anytime, right? Castiel is suddenly back. And he's telling Dean again, like, you need to stop it. And I can't remember what all was said.
Something about DeLoreans and whatnot. Like some back to the future references were made here. It was another cute little entertaining exchange. Kaseya looking fun as hell has sex hairs a little bit styled in this episode is not quite as sloppy. Yeah, he cleaned himself up just a little bit. Anywho Dean knows he's supposed to stop something by this point. And he has been told it twice by gas DL
that he has to stop it. And he's assuming since his dad is the first person he's run into that it must have something to do with his dad. So he continues telling his dad he follows him to a car lot where his dad is checking out a vaults back Volkswagen van. But he lets him know, hey, you should really be checking out this 67 Chevy instead. This is the car you want. It's still going to be badass in 40 years. It's got a great engine and so they talk shop a little bit. He apologizes
for being so out of it. And the diner says that he's hungover. And then he starts kind of going through the questions of like cold spots and sulfur Smalls. And yet again, John is just like, dude, you've got to chill out man. Like I don't know what you're on. But leave me alone. Thank thanks for the recommendation. Thanks for checking out the car. John ends up getting the Impala Surprise, surprise. And Dean follows him
to Mary's house. So Mary comes out and she's checking out the car and her and John get together and go on a dinner date. Dean creepily follows them on the dinner date as well. And of course, we can't have an episode that has Back to the Future written all out, although they're written all over it without having a few Oedipus complex references going on? Yeah, we've got that going on where Dean's checking out his mom. Yeah, that's gross. Mary gets up, excuses herself to go
to the bathroom. And we see John pull out an engagement ring. So we know he's planning to ask her to marry him. And she sneaks up on Dean and asks him who he is and why he's tailing them. Like I said, she's a hunter, so she was aware of her surroundings. She knew what was up, they get
into a bit of a tussle. And Dean sees that she has a charm bracelet on so we finally get a good look at all these charms that were kind of mentioned back in jus in bello when they were handing out charms to help protect people in that little police station. We actually get to see them. And we find out that Mary's family were hunters. So that was a surprise. I don't think I knew that. Maybe I did. I didn't. After Mary and John finish their date. She goes home and Dean is outside waiting at
her house. He insists on coming inside to meet Mary's dad. So we go in and meet Samuel Campbell. And Deanna Campbell. And I just think it's absolutely adorable that Mary named her firstborn son after her mom. I loved that. Samuel is a bit of a hard ass. He doesn't trust him even after he tests him with like, how do you kill a vampire and all this other stuff? He's like, okay, you can go I don't trust other hunters. I don't work with other
hunters. But Dean keeps asking questions and gets invited to stay for dinner by Deanna ends up finding out that Samuel is looking into a farmer's mysterious death. And the last name of the farmer sounds really familiar to Dean. He doesn't know why just yet, but he knows that he recognizes the name. I'm guessing it's the next day, Samuel and Mary are going to the farm to talk to the widow and the rest of the family to see if there's anything shady going on.
When they get there, Mary notices that the kid in the family and he's probably the same age as Mary, it looks like it's kind of posted up on a tree looking distraught, you can tell that he's not feeling good, which his dad just got mutilated by some farm equipment in the middle of a field where all his crops were dead. So understandably, not in the best place, but Mary goes and talks to the kid. And Samuel goes up to the house to talk to the mom. But before he can even knock on
the door, the door opens. And it turns out that Dean beat them there. Both Dean and Samuel are dressed like priests. Which hot? Oh, yeah. When he opened the door, I was just like, oh. Dean introduces Samuel as the senior senior father Cheney. There were a couple of references in here, Dean, whenever he introduced himself to John Winchester, he was Dean Van Halen. Oh, yeah. Just a bunch of fun stuff. Dean explains to Samuel that everything was normal. Like there wasn't anything strange
that happened. The day this guy died out on his equipment. So Dean leaves Samuel there to talk to the wife some more and goes and joins Mary and talking to the kid. The kid's name is Charlie. And he explains that someone had come by the house and asked him if he wanted his dad to stop beating his mom. Of course, the kids said yes. And that this guy just said that in 10 years, he would be coming back to collect something. And Dean's like, you know, did you sell your soul? Like what are
you talking about? Because like, No, I don't know. He just said in 10 years, he might be calling on me. And you know, he'd collect then, by the end of the episode, we find out that what the demon is collecting on is their children. So which psychic kid was Charlie's you think? Who knows? I would like to think that it was Andy. Because remember, he was adopted and all that?
Oh, yeah. Forgot about that.
Obviously, this isn't discussed at all. And I don't know if that'll ever be revisited. But I was kind of like, I wonder which psychic child was his? Oh, something important that I forgot to bring up. He did mention Dane started asking him you know, what color was this guy's eyes? Were they black? Are they red? And the kid said no, they were yellow. So now Dean is like shit, he is freaked out because he knows this yellow demon is hard to
kill. He's going to need to get the Colt if he's going to have any chance. Luckily, Daniel Elkins is still in Colorado we met dealt early. We met Daniel Elkins back in dead man's blood. So there's a lot of stuff in this episode that references season one and two, which I was thought really I thought that was really nice to have all these callbacks kind of tying things together, filling in some
gaps. He also revealed his plan to Samuel and Deanna and like, explains that the cult is real and that He knows where it's at. He's going to go and get it.
Oh, he did. Like when he brought up the call to Samuel. And asked like if he knew what it was. And he was like, oh, yeah, I used to tell Mary bedtime stories about that. Yeah, like nice bedtime stories. Love to hear one of those.
All these monsters exist. And there's this magical gun that kills all of them. Good is not real. He shows them his dad's journal. And they see this list of people where John believed yellow wise demon had visited. And this farm that they just visited was listed there. And somebody else close by was listed next. Samuel Deanna, of course are like how the fuck do you have this list? Like we don't understand. And Dean explains in a way saying that his dad was psychic because dad
could see the future. These are hunters so they're more likely to believe him. Whenever he tells them something like that. As dean is leaving, he sees Mary and has a little conversation with her. Let them know you know, I like that John guy. You should you should get together with him. I think he says something about like, I'm counting on it. Yeah, I'm counting on it. Yeah. Mary's like what? And he's like nothing. He asks why Mary likes John. You know, what's he like?
Mary says that he's sweet and optimistic and happy and even after the war he still believes in a happily ever after. So nothing like the John Winchester that we met back in season one,
right and doesn't even say like everything and hunters not. Yeah, he's everything hunters not.
Mary also mentions that she's hoping to run away with John and leave the hunter life that she wants to have kids. And she does not want to raise her kids in the, in the hunter lifestyle that she just thinks that's the absolute worst thing that could happen for kids for them to grow up into it like she did, which is so sad. And you can see that Dean is kind of heartbroken hearing her say that, as Dean is tearing up and starting to get emotional before
he leaves. He asks Mary to promise him not to get out of bed on November 2 1983. It's like whatever you hear, whatever you see, don't get out of bed, just promise me and she agrees. But clearly, she has no idea what he's talking about. And that infamous single tear that Jensen Ackles is so good at rolls down his face. As dean is driving to Colorado to go get the Colt Cassiel pops in. And Dean is asking why Sam wasn't along for the ride. Why didn't he get to have this back to the
future action alongside me. And Castile just simply says you had to do this alone. He also is talking to Dean about you know, if you save your mom, if you save all these people, you won't become a hunter and all the people you saved will die. Do you not care about that? Which you know, again, we have a call
back. This is to the what is and what will never be episode where we actually got to see, because the gin did the illusion thing we got to see what life would look like if Mary had lived and he was kind of conflicted with it then now that he actually has the opportunity to potentially make that alternate reality happen. It seems like he's gone in for it, which I thought was interesting.
Which I thought it was interesting in the car to when I think Dean mentioned something about like him taking him and LinkedIn and Sam's probably like looking like looking after looking for him like crazy. Yeah. And he just like straight face says Sam's not looking for you. Yeah. And like the conversation carried on, but to me, I was like taken aback. I was like Dean didn't like me like that. Why? Why? Why isn't he looking for me?
Yeah, of course, he
would be looking for me.
I didn't think about that. Yeah, you're right. But Cassiel was just matter of fact, like, yeah, he's
not fucking looking for you. Busy doing sneaky things. sneaky
things with Ruby, the demon while Dean is getting the coat from Daniel Elkins and promising him that he's going to keep the gun safe and letting him know where he can find it and all of that stuff. Mary is talking with her dad and finds out about this next house that they're expecting the demon to show up in. And it turns out it's one of Mary's friends. So she jumps up and is like, we have to go over there. We have to help her.
Yeah, so after she took off her dad, her dad her lovely Dad. What does he say? Like? Oh, she wants to be a hunter. She doesn't want to we talked about her not wanting to be a hunter. Well, she
told Dean she didn't want to be a hunter. So I assume she's told her dad she wants to be a hunter.
She does want to be a hunter and then he he blames it on is or questions if that's like her time of the month thing going on, which is really lovely to hear.
Yeah. Sexism. Yay. Well, Daniel are not Daniel, Samuel, Samuel and Mary show up at Mary's friend's house. Like just in time, the demon was just about to get this Libby check to make a deal to save somebody who's unfortunately sick. Samuel immediately pulls up I think it was a shotgun, and shoots the guy that's possessed by the demon right in the chest. It was like he didn't even look to see who the person was. He just shot first. The demon flings the gun out of his arms. And then the
demon ends up slamming Samuel against a wall just like we always see Sam up against a wall
can't have a demon and a Samuel Winchester in the same room without a Sammy ending up against the wall. Yeah, after Samuel is slammed up against the wall Mary comes in and stabs yellow eyes and is kind of like getting a bit of a tussle and Mary's holding her own and yellow eyes is like who you've got spunk. I like you just goofy and totally creeps Mary out. Dean comes in to save the day.
He's got the Colt but the demon grabs Mary and as using her as a human shield, before Dean is able to shoot the demon once Mary I think she like elbowed him or something. Yeah, get away.
Well, it's because Dean like they look at each other. And Dean kind of gives her a signal to, I guess, somehow distract or disarm the demon and then that's when he gets room for a shot but unfortunately doesn't work out.
We get the blue, black, blue, blue, blue, black screen vomit. That's become the popular thing to do. Have you noticed they start going? Ah, now I'm like winter. I can't think when that started but that's what they do. Now. Whatever the demon smokes out or whatever you want to call it. So yellow eyes. gets away. We cut to Dean and Mary standing outside and Samuel comes walking out and says that Libby, the friend that she's okay, she's a strong chick,
she'll be fine. Mary is explaining to Dean how the demon told her that it liked her. And she's like, What the fuck does that mean? I mean, she is just so uncomfortable, not happy right now. So Mary goes to the truck, and Dean tells Samuel that they need to talk and they need to talk alone. Back at the Campbells Dean explains to Samuel that this demon is going to kill Mary in 10 years. I'm Mary's kid, I'm your grandson.
I'm from the future. This little book that I have is, you know, it's not from somebody who was psychic. It's from somebody who researched all this stuff. You know, in 1983. If we don't do something, this yellow eyed demon is going to come and kill Mary. Samuel acts like oh, okay, you're crazy. But yeah, tell me more. Tell me more. And, you know, is asking, oh, how are we going to kill it? Oh, you have the colt, right? And he's like, yeah, and he pulls the Colt out
and sets it on the table. The camera is focused on Samuel and his eyes are just being real shifty. And I was like, hang on a second. He has been real shifty. Focusing on the cold. So all of a sudden Samuel goes, Hey, you know, let me see it. Let me hold the coat. Give it to me. And he's like, No, I don't want anybody touch up on me. Like slowly slides it away from him. Yeah. And then the demon blinks and reveals that he's yellow wise. I do like how Mitch Poleski he got real sassy.
Whenever he went into the yellow eyes. I made a note of
that to say like He did such a good job like with the switch just being the angry old man to like this sassy demon.
Yeah, he was pursuing his lips a lot. He was doing a lot of like kind of the head tilt and even his eyes like his eyes. I liked it. He he switched personas completely on a dime. Kudos to Mitch for leggy for that it was a fun little performance that he put on Yeah, he was still sexist though. He was like Colin, Marissa slet and all these other kinds of things. Yeah, what the fuck? Not necessarily. I know your demon but doesn't excuse you being
rude. Right? The other thing? He was like, Oh, so you're from the future. I know what kind of power it takes to come back and time you you have like angels on your shoulders or something? And he leans in his like sniffing Dean was like, Ooh, are you one of my psychic kids? And they said no, you must have a sister or a brother. Ha. Just taunting Dean. While this is going on, Deanna is peeking around the corner. And the cult has been knocked onto the floor. Deanna sees the Colt. I was just I
wanted her to go for it. I don't I thought it was like maybe she'll get it. Yeah. But unfortunately, as the demon is taunting Dean, it decides to let him know Oh, so I kill your mom. Well, guess what? I'm also going to kill your grandpa and stabs his Samuel vessel in the stomach. Deanna unfortunately, screams that this witch alerts the demon to her presence. She doesn't get the cold. He chases after her and snaps her neck.
Like it's nothing. Dean picks up the coal but by the time he gets into the kitchen, the demons gone. It's just unfortunately danas lifeless body laying in there, which how you're gonna explain that to the police. Right? We cut to John and Mary on another date. They're in the Impala. And John is clearly about to propose. But then yellow eyed Sammy shows up and it's like what I'll tell you about hanging out with us more like tears open the door drags
Mary out of the car. John gets out and he's like, Hey, what's going on is trying to stop the situation and intervene but up. He snaps his neck to Matt Cohen. He just fell he went completely limp and fell to the floor. So kudos to him for that. Yeah. Mary is up set. Demon has like killed your mama have killed your daddy. I killed your hot ass little boyfriend here. And he tells her that if she makes a deal with him, he'll come to
collect in 10 years. If she does that, she'll bring he'll bring John back from the dead.
I was like real confused when he snapped John's neck. I was like, wait, what? I was like, I was like, wait, what? The boys have a different like it wasn't clicking for me at first was like you got there.
Yeah. what confused me was this whole permission thing that yellow. I haven't bringing up like you possess people without their permission. Why do you need permission to come in their house and bleed in their child's mouth?
I guess maybe because he's taking part of their kid for himself or something.
I don't know. But yeah,
you're right. I mean, they don't say like you ask any. Don't ask any permission for anything.
Yeah, just do what they're gonna do. And he seemed to be emphasizing it A lot like I just I'll need your permission. I was just like, what? Like, why aren't you just telling them? You're selling me your kids soul, which maybe that's what it is. Maybe it's not maybe that's the permission as I'm giving you permission to take my kids soul.
Yeah, but they don't know that. Right, right.
I don't know that that was the only thing that was just kind of like I'm way
tricking them into saying Yes,
but why does he need them to say yes? Yeah, I don't know. Like, whenever he went into the nursery and leaned over like baby Sam's crib was he like, Okay, I got your mommy's permission so open up. Yeah, no, that was the point. Yeah, I was just kind of like, I don't understand. Anyway, while this is going down, Dean pulls up which How did he know where they were? real convenient. Oh, I forgot. He's been touched by an angel. Oh, that's right. Yeah, of course. Maybe Castile told
him where to go. Probably. He keeps coming in and out. Yeah, just popping in popping out.
I wrote down the knees real good at the Irish goodbye.
Dean pulls up just in time to see Mary making out with her dad's vessel. Oh, with the yellow.
I mean, it was a prolonged kiss to seal the deal. Still,
this episode seemed a little long. This episode was like yeah, we're gonna go in there. We're gonna give you what Back to the Future didn't do like they stopped short of this. We ain't Lee didn't like it. So I guess he had to seal it with a cast. Well, Annie had the hots for Barry anyway. Oh, that's true. That's true. yellow eyes wanted it. Dean pulls out the cold but yellow eyes bails again. Scream vomit black smoke. Samuels, body falls lifeless. Which word? What did he stab?
It looks like his stomach.
But you die from a stab wound to your stomach. It
depends. Who knows? Maybe about colon? I don't know everything.
Maybe he's just been bullied now. This whole time? Yeah. Maybe like twisted the knife and did him wrong. Who
didn't take it out right when he went after? Deanna? Yeah, yeah,
he took it out. He may just be I wonder where he flashed marry to show his wound. There was no knife there. So it's been out. So yeah, maybe he bled out right. Now anyhow, so Samuel is dead. John wakes up his beautiful eyes open up mean, very hands. You were very happy with
this guest is very handsome.
Got another cleft chin in the arsenal of fine ass men on the cast. Mary is looking at Dean and you can tell she's ashamed by what she did. But she sits there and cradles John just holding him which speaking of conversations, how's that conversation gonna go?
Right? And well, the whole time I was like, how does he not know like the names of his grandparents. And like, who he was named after and things like that. Like it wasn't clicking. But I'm like now I guess they probably just really didn't talk about?
Well, they've kind of given us little hints about that throughout the series. Like when they went and visited Mary's grave. They said it was just some uncle we don't know paid for this. There's no body there. But some uncle we don't know. And Ruby, Google. Whenever she was first trying to get Sam to trust her. She was telling him, you know, have you ever looked into your mom's family and things that happened to them afterwards? And she was bringing
up their names. And Sam didn't know who any of those people were. So it hasn't been? What's the word I'm looking for? Explicit? That they didn't know anything about their mom's side of the family. But there have been in hindsight, these little things, right. So now I'm curious, like yellow wise, makes out with Mary and then go kills all her family? Well, maybe that was just it was just them. Was that the permission he needed? No, no, I'm so confused. I'm still intrigued, and I'm still
into it. But I'm just I'm trying to like, make the conspiracy board diagram with like the red threads in my head and it's not working really well. Yeah. Castile shows up and he takes Dean back to the hotel. Dean wakes up on the bed, just like he did at the beginning of the episode. And Castile is standing at the foot of the bed this time not facing Dean looking off giving us a beautiful shot of his profile, and explains to Dean that he wouldn't have been
able to stop it anyway. So he can't stop his destiny, that he wasn't supposed to stop Mary from making the deal. That's not the thing. He was supposed to stop at all. That that whole Back to the Future. Adventure Time was to loop Dean and because it was easier to show Dean than to just tell him everything that happened but then I guess Dean had to go back in time for the things to happen because Dean is the reason that Mary ended up on the yellow eyes
radar in the first place. Oh, I'm confusing myself even more.
Don't think it was Dean's vault really? The demon was already there in the vicinity. Right.
But it hadn't met Mary whenever she came in and started fighting and he was like, Oh, you've got spunk. He's done. Wait up said Where have they been hiding? You like she wasn't her house right. Now that was at the friend's house, Tiana's. Yeah, but the demon was already there, though. The demon was in town, but it was at her friend's house, and she wouldn't have gone to her friend's house. If Dean hadn't pulled out dad's journal and been like, this is where yellow eyes is going next.
Okay, sorry. So it's Dean's fault that Mary and Samuel went there. Yeah, I mean, maybe they would have gone there for another reason. But if it's like a close time loop and what you can't change it, like what's happened has happened, then Dean's the reason that yellow eyes came into Mary's life in the first place. I'm making this way complicated. I'm
sorry. No, no, I mean, I'm following you. I just, I hadn't thought about it. But yeah,
Castiel is like, Sam is doing some shady fucking shit, Dean.
Yeah, like he like points over to the bed and Samsung othered. All of a sudden deeds, like, where Sam
Cassiel tells Dean where Sam is and tells him that he's going down a dangerous path. And that if Dean doesn't stop it, he's like, we will. So that's the dramatic ending. Sam, he's doing something shady, which we knew at the very beginning, but now we know, the angels don't like it. And as we've learned throughout this episode, they like to be very dramatic. You know, since they're in their vessels, they don't have their hundreds of eyes and multiple
faces. And they can't like Scream stuff like, ah, because Dean doesn't understand their language for some reason. So they're like, how else can we make shit dramatic and impactful? And really spell it out for him? Yeah. Like I know. Like, let's take him back in time. And make him watch his grandpa kiss his mother. That'll get the message across.
certainly did.
So Dean is motivated at this point to go find Sam and stop it. Now the key takeaway, Matt Cohen's hot? Yes.
Very pretty. Yeah. Pretty eyes. Good facial features. bone structure
left chin there's so many cleft shins in this cast. I can't take it. So this was written by Jeremy Carver and directed by Steve Boyum. All right, Gore.
It wasn't wasn't gory, but like the way he just snapped those next was like it really nothing.
Yeah. Real abrasive take taken aback you know, watching it. The only Gore in this episode that I can think of was Samuel yellow eyes stabbing himself in the stomach. Yeah, but even that you hardly saw anything. So yeah, there wasn't one. Yeah. So what did you adore about this episode?
Well, yeah, definitely. I kind of liked that. It was actually Dean who talked him into getting the Impala after all, you know, because he was gonna get the Volkswagen van. So I thought that was interesting. I don't know. I'm not even gonna attempt to get all that time. No. But yeah, I thought that was really cute.
I liked all the callbacks to previous episodes like Daniel Elkins from Dead Man's Blyde the dilemma of do I save my parents and have this wonderful life or save all the people I've saved in the past and let my parents die? You know, that was a call back to what is and what will never be. Yeah. Call back to the psychic demon children. Again, I think I think Charlie was Andy's daddy. That's my headcanon. Yes. I thought that that was entertaining all these little
callbacks. And of course, Misha Collins, Oh, yeah. His little pop ins kept kept things entertaining, kept things lively. kept you on your toes. Yeah. What about lore?
All right. Well, we already talked about time travel recently back with Mystery Spot. So instead, today, we're going to talk about old yellow eyes. So there are stories of an actual Azazel as far as you know, religion goes. And he was a fallen angel. Oh, he's an angel, who's evil influence is what led to man's corruption, corruption of humanity. So thanks a lot. Azazel.
I always thought that was Lucifer.
Well, so. So this says that, like Azazel is, it's like his evil influence, like helps with the corruption, but it also says that it's basically like, it's jumping way ahead to
where I'm sorry, don't let me throw you off.
I just didn't know he was an angel. I'll get to that. Okay. He was a leader among all of the fallen angels, which again, I mean, it does sound a lot like Lucifer, so I don't know. I didn't look up if they're similar. They could possibly be the same. Well, yeah, we'll be researching Lucifer way later, but in the G newish Book of Enoch, if that's even the how it's pronounced, that book commands its readers to ascribe all sinned to him. So it's all his fault. All of our sins are
Azazel fault. Before he fell, he was a gloriously beautiful man with wings on his back. But when He sympathized with Satan, he was cast down to earth and became, you know, one of the fallen angels. And then we've learned, like I said, He's, like a leader of them. The evil that he spread as a fallen angel corrupted his beauty as well. And not His beauty. I know it's so so important, really is he took on a more demonic
appearance. And it says he has been drawn with red skin, glowing yellow eyes, and a BB tail, which we don't have any of that in the show so far, except for the yellow eyes. Well, it's actually by the time he became a major character in Jewish and Christian texts, is when he had this more demonic appearance that he is known for now than when he was a gloriously beautiful man. I mean, was a gorgeous man. Yeah, I would have liked to have seen him. Right.
But from the very start, he was one of Heavens most powerful and clever angels. When God created man Azazel started to be a little rebellious, and he refused about a man and objected as to like, why he even created man. He said, Why should God create a human being who will shed blood and confusion, while the angels Prostrate before him and sing his glory day and night? I mean, he has a point. Well, I was like, when I read this, I was like, I mean, he has a point, but he also sounds like
a real fucking brat, right? And he shows up in a lot of different religions and Judaism, the early Semitic tribes. His name is Hazel means strong one against God. Of course, he's very evil force. It was common that they made sacrifices to him. And they made sacrifices to him, at the same time that they would make sacrifices to their God, Yahweh.
I've heard that before. Yeah, I don't know what it is. But I've heard that before.
And the Hebrew Bible Azazel sacrifices were made by driving a goat into the desert wilderness, or by pushing it into a deep ravine. These sacrifices were not meant to honor him as a deity, but they symbolize the people that they were sending their sins back to the original source, because we can blame everything on Azazel.
It's all those things. Yeah. Paul. Good to know. Yeah. Good to know.
And the depiction sometimes, that we see, especially in the Judaism, is he's wearing a goat skull, and dressed and goat bones, because of like the sacrifices that they made to him. He also shows up in the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Book of Enoch, like I mentioned, and the apocalypse, Apocalypse of Abraham provided more details about how he came to Earth, and what he did to spread sin on Earth and why he was punished with God. So it just gave more details. It doesn't give me the details. But that's
that's what the article says.
Yeah. And in Christianity, he's well known among the Christians. Since the Latin and English versions of the Bible were translated. His name is scapegoat or wasteland which scapegoat sounds appropriate. Yeah. Seventh Day Adventists. They acknowledged Azazel as Satan's right hand man, and they claim that he that a special torment awaits him on the day of judgment. Ooh, so it's coming
for him. His day is coming. And Islam Muslim tradition takes the story of his basil even farther back than Judaism and Christianity, when he ranked among the good angels and the says some scholars believe that he was among the most wise and noble Angels and then he fought against the jinn who lived on earth before humans. Other others believed that he was a jinn who, as a reward for fighting against another Jinn was allowed to enter heaven and be called an angel. That's
interesting. Yeah. Don't have more on that either. Look it up yourself. Unfortunately, his position of honor made him arrogant, said he was a brat back to the bratty thing. And when God created man, like I said, he refused to bow to them, which I didn't know angels were just about a man. That seems a little weird. When he was cast down on earth, he became a plague on man. So and then today, modern appearances that we've seen him in. He's in the Bible twice, supernatural,
getting there. And then in a few works of fate, or like, as I said, Jewish and Christians, texts provide more information about him. And a few of the fantasy things he's been in, in like pop culture. He was a villain and X Men and fallen and Sandman and Burnett
Trouble. Yeah, I'm
sure he's been on a bunch of other stuff too. But so yeah, that's a little short recap on Azazel Sure, there's many more things about him.
I loved that fallen movie. Did you ever see it with Denzel Washington? Yes. Ah, with the like demon that passed from person to person via touch. Was it via touch? Or was it? Or did you just have to be in the vicinity? I can't remember. I think you just had to be in the vicinity actually. Because at the very, very end, spoiler warning. They think that they got them because they go to somewhere completely secluded, where there aren't any people. And basically, everybody gets
killed. And they think that they got them and then there's like a cat. And so he escapes in the cat. And I don't think it ever showed a person touch the cat.
I don't like cats. Not really.
Close it out. We have a quote from Dean. He's talking to himself in an alleyway while he's watching his mom and dad on a date. And I do think it's curious that when Dean talks to himself, he's talking to Sam. I thought that was cute. He said, Sam, wherever you are, mom is a baby. And then he paused and said, I'm going to hell. And then he paused and said, again, shares
I was like, man, totally not necessary for that to be put in there.
It's Back to the Future refer. I
