Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.
over drinks, we'll discuss the lore of gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.
I'm burly, and I'm a new fan of the series.
I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy.
Hello, la
Hello Burley. On the last episode sex and violence. Sam and Dean enter a small town in Iowa where three men have inexplicably beaten their wives to death. The guys realized that behind the murders is a siren. A creature that can take different forms and desperately needs love and compels people to destroy themselves as a show of devotion. A siren eventually put Sam and Dean under their spell and pits the two brothers against each other in a fight to
the debt. And it was a man Oh yeah, forgot about.
Today's episode is titled, death takes a holiday. It is the 15th episode of season four. We're trucking along here. And it aired originally on March 12 2009. What's going on over there?
I think my champagnes gone bad.
Oh, no.
I don't remember when I open that. I know. It's been sitting there for a few days, but I have a little stopper on it. But
do you need to make a different drink? No. You're just gonna drink it anyway. So
I can drink. I do.
The video. Oh, the video? Let me do. The episode opens up with two gentlemen walking out of a duck bar. And I'm I'm tripping all over myself today. They're bitching about a football game and pitching about their fantasy football. And one of them's really upset that he's gonna have lost points and they turn the corner and a gentleman asks them, Hey, do you have any spare change? They're like, No,
sorry. The guy pulls out a gun and it's turned sideways, which means he means business a gangsta and he said, What about your wallets? Give them to me a cook. Or somebody had been taking out the trash and saw what was happening and got startled and dropped the lid to the dumpster made a loud noise. And the gangster accidentally shot one of the guys in the chest like real close to the he was really close to them. I mean talking distance close enough for them to hand them. wallets,
you know. So the guy obviously get slammed completely down on his ass. The friend starts screaming and is immediately starts trying to do CPR on him. Which is that what you would do if someone got shot in the heart? I don't think I mean, kudos to him for not freezing. I would have just been like what the fuck? Just be putting pressure on it. Oh, I don't know. But then the friend is just like, Oh, I'm I'm okay. It's cool.
Like, it's like he's he gets startled. And he's like, Oh, hey, I'm good. That's fine. Don't worry. But I thought it was weird. Like when it shows his wound, it's like the wound was like smoking, not bleeding.
And I thought and the friend actually commented like you're not even bleeding and I thought the gray little thingy that was there was like a smudge or something. But later on when he's talking, he says that he's got the bullet is in his heart. So I guess was that a hole? was at the back of the bullet?
I think so. So we're just the hole that the load should have been coming out of and it just wasn't it was just smoking. It was black and smoking. It was weird.
So the friend was just like what the fog and helped his friend stand up. And they both were just kind of like, well, okay, I would be like we probably still get you know, supernatural. We cut to a restaurant. Sam is chatting on the phone, apparently with Bobby. While Dean is getting himself something to eat. He glances over as Sam is hanging up. And Sam's like, Hey, Bobby thinks he might have found a case for us. There's a small town where no one has died in over a week. And it's just like,
I mean, is that weird? Like for nobody to die in over a week in a small town? It sounds like Well, it's the way they're not dying. You know, like this one guy got shot and just stood up and walked away like nothing. I think he mentioned the close range shot and Dan was like, No, he's not a doughnut. Yeah. Oh, and he also whenever he said that he got shot. I can't I can't remember one of my midi notes that I wrote down, kept in the ask question mark. Oh, yeah. Cuz Dean was like, did he get
kept in the house? I was like, what? It was random. But anywho there's also a guy who had terminal cancer and was perfectly fine all of a sudden so forget the other ones. Yeah, that's clearly people who should have been dead but aren't dying. Not just that no one's died. Yeah. So yum is all about it like, let's go. Let's go check it out. Get your food wrapped up like didn't even let Dean finish eating his lunch.
Oh yeah. And Dana is real petty and brings up he doesn't want to hold him back. Yeah,
you sure you sure you want me coming with you? I don't want to hold you back and Sam has just like,
move on.
I've told you 100 times. So clearly this is something that's come up multiple times since the last episode ended, which we knew at the end of the last episode when they were like, Yeah, we're fine. LA and I both looked at each other like they are not fine. They're not fine. This has clearly been something that's been a conversational item over and over and over again. What I feel like so
I mean, I know he probably doesn't want to admit it, but it's like, Come on, man. That's probably back in the back of your head a little bit, you know?
Well, and why isn't Sam bringing up what Dean said? Dean said some not some so kind things either true. Of course, you wouldn't think that because you agreed with everything that Dean said.
Mean? Call a spade a spade.
Anyhow, they decided to drop it for the moment and go check out this case. The first thing they do is go interview, Jim Jenkins. That's the gentleman with the bullet in his heart. And they mask themselves this time as like religious bloggers. Yeah, they have like a blog about God and angels and all of that. And that's because Jim thinks that what happened to him is a miracle. He's like, I don't know. Just like, I feel like I have angels watching over
me. And Dean's just kind of like, okay, they question him. You know, have you been at a crossroads recently? And he's like, No. And Sam is even like, have you happen to run across anybody with you know, block eyes are red. And the guy says, What the fuck are you talking about? Not getting any sort of vibes from the sky, that he's made a deal or something and that that's why he was able to walk away. Sam and Dean split
up. Sam goes to check out the cancer survivor and Dean is on research, which isn't typically the case. When Sam comes back to the hotel to see Dean. He explains that it wasn't just that it was a terminal cancer patient. The patient had technically died like clinically dead. They had turned off the machines unplugged them, so to speak, pulled the plug. And then the cancer patient woke up and took his wife out for their 20th anniversary. Yep. But that was a celebration, right? Unexpected
little anniversary gift. Yeah. Sam asks Dean if he's made any progress with research and Dean's like, Well, no, but I did look into the last person who died in this town. It was a young boy named Cole Griffith. So Sam is saying okay, so what if there's just no one there to lead them into the light, so they have nowhere to go other than hang out in their body and stick around still. And so they're thinking Something's happened to the local Reaper?
Yeah, like Dean was like, what'd he say? What the rebirth? The Reapers just on strike. He's out hitting on the back nine. Take a vacay
is at this point that Sam says, Why don't we ask Cole? He was the last one to die. Let's just go ask him. No big deal. Yeah. And I think Dean even said something like, how was this our life? You know, like, that's just a normal suggestion for one of us to make that evening. They go to the cemetery. Cool, was buried, and they've set up symbol wheels or something. Yeah, they're putting like some weeds in the middle. They've got candles. So they're going to like do a seance to talk to
coal. In the meantime, while they're chatting. Dean is kind of saying like, why do we have to fix this? Like, why can't we just leave these people alone? They're good people. Let them live. Let's let them live. Let's let them let's let them be. It sounds like Well, no, there's a natural order to things. We can't disrupt the national or natural order to a dean, understandably, is like Are you fucking kidding me?
Like, come on, buddy.
Like we both died. And here we are having a conversation while we're doing a seance to talk to a ghost. We're like the poster child for going against the natural order, basically. And Sam says, Well, we're the exception. We're different. And Dane tries to say no, we're not. We're no better than anybody else. We're no different from anybody else. I can't remember
if he said something about how like Sam had the demon blood and he's literally been to hell or something like that. I can't remember either. Exactly what he said.
That's what Sam said, oh, sorry, back to him. During this conversation, somebody comes walking up on them. It's like I was going on over here. This devil worship and what are you doing? And they're like, just we're leaving. We're leaving. It's not what it looks like. And then the guys like you're not leaving. You're not going anywhere. Sail home. And then ever Yeah, His eyes like rolled up into his head.
It was like his eyes rolled up into his head. And then they rolled back. I was like, I couldn't tell if that like they change color or anything or if it was just a like, let me just roll back and roll back a different one.
Well, I mean, I assume they went white for at least a second. Yeah, they did. Dean was like, oh, Alistair,
they did.
So it's Alistair again. And he's not fucking around. He like, flicks his wrist and Dean goes flying across the graveyard and like slams into one of the gravestones, gets knocked unconscious immediately. And then Alistair tries to do the same to sail. And nothing happens. Sam just like a sit in there flare in his nostrils and do and stuff. And then he puts his hand out and Alistair gets slammed up against a tree. And he's like saying like, Ooh, you're stronger now. What have
you been solo? Flexing with that little slut?
Oh, yeah. Which I mean, how she slept. We've only seen her sleep was Sam. Bright. I mean, even if she was sleeping with somebody. Are they exclusive?
Why do they keep calling her? Well, yeah, I don't get it. I got if you're gonna be insulting at least be accurate. Right? Come on, guys. Get out to your via source. Kid a little more creative here. Sam is about to exercise. Alistair, and he bails out. He smokes out. He says bye. Bye. And just today, Sam. And the body just kind of falls limp at the tree. So I don't know if that guy lived or what? Who knows?
Let's hope. Well, he should have lived if he's in this town grew
right. But how long has Alistair been in the town? Well, that's true. They go back to the hotel. And Sam why studying again?
Why, like the Dean kind of calls him out this time. It's like, first of all, Sam, you're so fucking obvious about why you're not good. Liars are terrible at it. And deeds, like, you know, like, you can have your secrets or whatever. But like, just don't. Don't take me for like an idiot. Like, I know you're lying to me, like, come on.
And the thing is, like, he tells the truth, and then lies. And that's like the part where you decide to change your mind and then lie. So when it's so obvious, so Dean is like, okay, so explain to me what happened. He said, Well, Alistair flung you and then he tried to form me and it didn't work. And, you know, so then I tried to get rid of money. And he bailed out. He took off I don't know. And he was like, Why didn't it work on you? Because he found you. cross those stairs. Just find
that you mean that weird noise? Come out of you. But this time, just nothing.
Yeah. And that's when Sam lies and it's like, I don't know. Oh, no. So you need to practice your fucking line. Yeah, you wanna Ruby for someone roleplay that can real devious and deceptive lately. Maybe you need a solo Plex on that. One a solo flexing?
That's what he said solo flexing. So I don't know,
like makes me think I you know, I've told you how I'm like, sometimes I have that issue where I'm on the precipice of a memory. I'm having that right now where I'm like on the precipice of a memory of an infomercial for like a in home gym called the cielo flexor. Does that sound right? Well, your solar plexus? Don't I have a solar plex?
Is that your chest? For some reason I'm wanting to. I was like your breastplate. My chest. Solar Plexus? I think that's what I'm saying. Solar Plexus. I think that's here. But that's your sternum to the solar plexus.
Am I doing it?
Oh no. The solar plexus, also called the Celiac Plexus is a complex, complex system of radiating nerves and ganglia is found in the pit of the stomach in front of the aorta. It's part of this synthetic. So I wonder this system, it plays an important role in the functioning of the stomach, kidneys, liver and adrenal glands. That's an important part
of my solar plexus.
Just gonna beat mine. Together.
We'll move on. Anyway, after they have their little tiff, Sam tells Dean that Bobby had called again and had some more information. Bobby agrees that the local Reaper must have gone missing.
Also, when did Sam and Bobby get so close? Because I feel like Am I crazy? Like it seemed like him and Dean used to talk more. It wasn't really Bobby. Well, I know that. But I'm just saying it seems like lately. It's just been him and Bobby speaking. Not a dean at all. But I could be wrong.
But at least in this episode, well, maybe Casio kept calling Sam and saying he was Bobby. Because he thought that Dean would recognize it wasn't really him Catch him. Yeah, that he would like say something wrong. Use the wrong word not just have such a connection. He would know. Oh, I was thinking that Dena Bobby had such a connection.
I'm talking about I was just thinking before it seemed like because Cassiel obviously the one that was getting the messages and stuff from from from Bobby, but it seems like the last few episodes. It's been more Sam talking to Bobby. That was just my point, but I could be wrong.
Oh, I
thought it didn't have anything to do with it. He
just meant this episode. No, no, no. Got it. Got it. Got it. I don't know. Maybe Bobby feels guilty about what? For showing favoritism.
Maybe he's like he's got to even the playing field. Yeah. All right, boys are a lot to deal with. Balance this act?
Well anyway, one of the things Bobby supposedly found in his research was an arcane version of revelations. And it mentioned ritual, which involves killing of Reaper under the solstice Moon, which happens to be the very next day.
And that's one of the seals Yes, breaks one of the seals
that'll break one of the seals. You have to kill to we find that out later. Okay. Dean wonders how they'd kill a Reaper like how do you kill death, so to speak, and Sam was like, the demons must have a way. And Dean comments that, you know, the angels haven't shown up here. And it's supposed to be one of the seals like what the fuck? Where are they?
Well help guys.
Why aren't they coming out here to
help tell you why these angels are real lazy. Putting all this work on them really inconsistent. Yeah,
it's like, stop the seals. And
we're all supposed to be stopping the seals. But you do you are dying. And we're over here doing something that we
want to kill that girl that you just had sex with. And you know, your angels, man. Gotta love them complicated. Since the angels aren't coming around, Dean is basically like, we got to figure this shit out ourselves. And Sam says, Well, how are we going to find Reapers, you can't see a Reaper unless you're dead or dying. And team has the genius idea of well, then we'll become ghosts. Totally normal
reaction.
Yeah, I love how we jumped from, you know, commenting on how it was weird. But they were saying, well, we'll just go ask the ghost. But then to say, well, we'll just become ghosts. Yeah, that's perfectly fine. They need assistance in order to, quote unquote, become ghosts. So they recruit Pamela? And right when she walked in the Hotel La was immediately like, well, I'm surprised she shows. Yeah, she's a saint. Dean just kind of points out, you know, if we don't stop these seals, it'll be
the end of the world. Like no more. Didn't he say no more leather pants with tassels?
Yeah, I was like you. Like no more condescending. I was like, rude when she's, she doesn't she does not have to help you. But yeah, if they call me I'm like, hell no. After everything.
No, no. And she even says later that I told you I don't want anything to do with this. So how did they get her to agree? That's never really addressed. Yeah. How did you get her to come to an Aarthi in the middle of nowhere, Wyoming? Like what? I just give her she's a saint. She's a saint. And the first thing she says is okay, who the fuck came up with the idea of astral projection. And Dean raises his hand. She's blind. I think he ended up saying Yo, or something like
that. But whatever. He was first raising his hand and not talking. I was just like, Are you fucking kidding me? Pamela points out that essentially what they're going to be doing is ripping out their souls. So they can wander around the spirit wall In what world? And Dean says, You know what, it doesn't matter. That's where the Reaper is. So that's what we have to do. Like, there's not another option here. There's no other choice. This is it. Pamela's like it's crazy. You don't know
what you're doing. Dances, but you know what you're doing? And that's why we have you here. And then here's my other question. Looked at she she didn't drive there. Right. They had to have gone and gotten her. So was Was she napping in the car? You know what happened between calling her convincing her to come help? And actually getting her there? Yeah, that y'all are just now having this conversation.
Maybe she took a bus.
Oh, well, she agrees to help them while they're getting everything set up and in place. Pam asks them how they plan to do anything. Like you're going to be a ghost. What are you going to do?
Do you think that Pamela was like at one point? She was probably like, maybe they just lured me here.
Maybe she was. Maybe that was probably the hope that's maybe why she made maybe that's what they led her to believe. And that's why she was there. But the hammer was pointing out like you're gonna be ghosts. You can't touch anything. You can't do shit. And Sam and Dean are like, we've had our asses kicked by ghosts before. She's like, Yeah, ghosts who've had time to practice and learn how to do stuff like you're not gonna have time your babies. Yeah, ghost, baby. Anywho I guess let's do
it. That's how the plan goes. So She has them lay down on a bed. And Sam had to lay diagonally in order to fit on the bed. And she's telling them that she has this like incantation that she's going to say. And she has to say it again in order to bring them back. So she says the incantation that is like Alright, that's it. And Dean sits up and at first is like, I don't think it worked like what the fuck What's plan B? Yeah, but then he looks over and you see Sam's body on the bed still.
And yet Sam is also standing behind him looking fucking adorable. And then dean looks over and sees his own body and it's just like, Oh, shit. So she reminds them again, okay, like, I'm guessing you guys like, what'd she say? Like you're in the Rainbow Room?
I don't think so. Yeah, hopefully,
that she's like, just reminder. I'm gonna say the incantation again to bring you back. You should be able to hear me. She goes over and she whispers in Sam's ear. And Sam hears her But Dean can't and she says, You have got a great ass it Sam just laughs that I told la I was like, oh, no, she I fucked the hell out of Dean when we first met Pamela. Oh, yeah. And she was filling up his leg and all that but she's gone for Sammy. This. So ever since she's
been going for Sam. Yeah, I guess it's like she's like a touching Dean got my eyes burned out. True. Maybe I'll go for the other brother. No. The boys are walking along. And somebody goes jogging right through Sam. So Dean laughs And of course, his initial reaction is to immediately stick his arm directly through Sam. And then he's like, Am I making you uncomfortable? And Sam says get out of me. And Dean calls him a prude.
There's a lot to work with. They're not done back.
They go walking to the house of Cole Griffith, the last person in town to die. And they see coal. Like through a window. In the house. We see coals mom, she's just she's a wreck. I felt so sorry for her. Because she can tell her son is still there, but she can't see him. And he's kind of a little shit. Like he gets angry and sort of spinning a soccer ball and then throws it at her and then refused to throw other balls. And he'd been knocking over a frame or
whatever. So he's, I guess he's maybe turning into a vengeful spirit a little bit. Or maybe he just was always a little asshole. I don't know. Sam and Dean come in, and they see him doing that stuff. And they're like, Whoa, what the fuck? Like, chill out, man. He's like, who are you? And Sam says, you know, we're dead. Like you're dead. And we're dead to like, we're all ghosts. And Cole says, Yeah, I know. I'm dead. Haley, Joel. I already knew that dumbass. So Sam is just like, Okay, we just
we just want to talk to you. We want to talk to you. So now we're downstairs and we see Cole's mom pour herself a glass of vodka. Not chilled. No ice, neat, nothing straight up and start sipping on it. I did not care for that.
I feel like that happens a lot in movies. I'll see people like pour themselves just a glass of alcohol and start like drinking
like room temperature. I could not. I could but
I would like have to like took it down. Like it would be yeah, like I could do it. If
I had to. I don't know what situation would ever exist where I'd have to. You know, like, give me some ice. I
don't think there's ever been a time where I've just been like, poured in and just take a baby.
So Cole is explaining to Sam and Dean how he died. He had had an asthma attack because he'd stayed outside in the cold all day. And he was in his room and he tried to call out for his mom, but he couldn't. And the next thing he knew he was standing over his own body. That was when he saw his Reaper for the first time and he described him as an old man. I totally thought we were gonna get pruned face from season one because he said he was a creepy old man. So I thought it was gonna be pruned
face. But he wasn't he was just an elderly gentleman. There was nothing creepy about him. So rude coal. But coal said that, you know, he didn't want to go with the Reaper. He wanted to leave and then some black smoke came and filled the room and took the Reaper away. As coal was telling them this story. We saw another Reaper come through the front door and it looks like the ghost monster version of the Reaper that we saw back in season two's in my time of
dying. As Sam and Dean go to run up the stairs to try and stop the rubber trying to talk to them. They stop on their own and turn around and they've changed their form. They now look just like Tessa, the girl from in my time of dying. Dean doesn't remember her at first, but then she kisses him and his mind floods with all the memories of everything that had happened in that episode. And he's like Tessa, and you should look familiar.
And I was like, Uh, no, she's been on here before but I couldn't like place her until
her hair is much longer
Yeah, she
still super cute though. Oh yeah. So Tessa is saying she's there to take the kid like, Reapers got a REAP shifts going on in this town. It's not supposed to be happening. I don't know what happened to my Reaper friend, but I'm here to get the machine running again. So I got to do this. And they convince her to wait so that they can talk to coal and try to find out where the black smoke is because Cole said that he didn't know where the black smoke was going, but he knows
where it is. Because he saw it at his funeral. Sam says let me go talk to him. And Sam had said that he's just going to tell coal, whatever he has to in order to get cold to help him. I guess that sound like put on his Mr. deceiver cap. Because he lied real good to cold. He convinces coal to help them because he's like, oh, yeah, I have the power. Like I'll stop it. You can stay here forever. Not a problem. Even though he knows that Tessa said as soon as I start raping again, I'm
starting with Cole. Not cool Sam. He didn't even look like normally like Season One Sammy Season Two Sammy would have like looked over to the side like you could tell he would have been little sad, right or a little remorseful. This Sammy didn't seem to have a problem with it.
Yeah. Also, like earlier when they were talking about like how Dean was like, let's just let them be. I feel like Sam probably would have been like a little more on that side. Pre all of this
now I don't know. Because Dean was all about the natural order in season two. Like what's dead should stay did. So I don't know.
Dean was. I know that. But I'm saying like, because Sammy used to be the nice sweet one who never wanted to hurt anybody. But now he's like, no, they got it fucking die. Sorry.
His profile looked amazing. And that when it yeah, when he was sitting on the floor, lying to a child. I was like, jail may look good. He looks so okay, I'm happy you notice here because we didn't really talk about it. I think I said something about his nose. We didn't talk about it much though. While the episode was playing.
I also like that he's like, he's totally fine pulling one over on this kid. But then he sucks at lying to his own brother.
Yeah. I mean, the Dean doesn't know him best. Jane doesn't know him best back downstairs Dean saying how he had a hole in himself after he didn't go with Tessa and that like part of him wishes he had just gone with her and ended it but he's like, you know, I guess it doesn't matter anymore. Because of everything else that's happened. Tessa is saying like, she doesn't give a shit about what's happening with the angel demon, whatever. I don't give a fuck. And seems like Oh,
so you know about that? And she's just like, yeah, yeah, fucking Nope. Everybody knows about 18 Everybody. As they're talking calls, mother comes walking into the room picks up her keys and leaves walking out the front door. And as she opens the door to Peace out, the black smoke comes in. And it kidnaps Tessa. I think I went a little out of order with all of this.
There was a lot going on. Yeah.
After that Cole decides he's gonna help Sam and Dean. So he had to be ghosts. He's gonna teach them how to be ghosts. But I thought it was cute. Like Sam and Dean. Were talking. We're like, What the fuck are we going to do? We don't know how to do any of this stuff. It's not like we can go find Mr. Miyagi. And Cole is like, Who's Mr. Miyagi? And then Cole becomes Mr. Miyagi. I thought that was
really cute. Yeah, so then the boys go to the funeral home where Cole said he had last seen the black smoke that that's where it was going. And outside the building, there's like all these symbols like They're glowing and Black Light almost all these symbols all over the building. And they're just like, What the heck is that and sounds like I mean, it's probably some sort of sigils or whatever that you can only see if you're in
the veil. Inside they find this ritual stuff set up there's a huge symbol painted on the floor candles in the corners and both Reapers Tessa and the older gentleman are both laying inside and there's a demon getting everything set up I guess for the big ritual or whatever that's going to happen the big killing the double
double murder.
So Dean is like Yeah, watch this and goes over and he flashes next to the man punches them and flashes to disappear. And then Sam does it behind them and so they like kind of tag team this team and beating him up. But then the demon Lords them behind a coffin, and then runs out and another demon comes running by with iron chain and chains them in there. So I guess they didn't learn how to walk through walls. See, and so now they're stuck in here because this iron chain they can't cross
it. I guess they can't lay on the ground and roll under it. You know, like they're just stuck. While they're in there. Alastair shows up being portrayed now by Christopher. You say his name. Higher doll. Christopher higher doll. He played the sweet and hell on wheels. And he was also in Peacemaker. Oh, I really liked him. And I like that he emulated the voice of the last actor who played Alastair, not the guy in the graveyard but the actor who
threw Sam over the stairs. Yeah, I know you didn't like his voice. But I still thought it was a nice touch that this actor watch that scene or ask that actor how he did it or something because it was I thought a perfect impersonation of the accent. It was good. Yeah. So he walks in and he's got a shotgun and he's shooting them with salt rock and it's like not as so much fun now is it boys? Oh, pretty much torturing them taste to their own medicine. Yeah. And he's explaining that it takes to
to break the seal. So he needed both Reapers explaining the plan doing the whole villainy thing. And I love this actor though. Even though it wasn't like it was just kind of stretched out dialogue. Whatever. I still love it. I love him. I love it. Back in the motel. Pamela is sitting there clearly something's not right. The way that camera is blocked the wind blowing in through the window the creaking noise and her looking around. She suddenly has gotten really
anxious is locking the door. Why wasn't that already locked? Whatever walk in the door closing the window and I'm sitting here being like, Where's the salt? Where's where's the stuff that like, you know, Tinder guys? Yeah, way to make sure that she's gonna be safe. Like, fuck. Things are not looking good for Pamela right now. Like, we already know something. Something bad's gonna be happening here. But Ken piste. How did I still want to know how they convinced her to
do it? Because I can't imagine. I wonder if they had Bobby color. But I mean, she's like on this damn good Friday. Yes. She's like, I'm fucking sick of this. I don't want to be in this angel demon war bullshit. I don't want anything more to do with it. And so yet again, I'm just sitting here being like, Why? Why is she here then? What are y'all giving her? What does Pamela getting out of this? Not
my own understand. In the meantime, Alistair kills one of the Reapers he has to say like this really long and Ken tation and slits the Reapers throat and is moving on to Tessa, Dean and Sam, realize that there's an iron chandelier hanging over the sigil and they're concentrating it on it really hard, but they're like kind of vibrating a little bit concentrating. And I guess Tessa somehow got looped
into what they were doing. Yeah, I don't know if it was just an off handed close up or if she was helping them during this. Anyway, they get the chandelier to fall and it breaks the line on the sigil which I guess was some sort of trap for the Reapers because Tessa is able to escape now. Back in the motel room. Pamela has locked everything down. But she's like, I know you're in here. I can smell you. So something's in the room and we see that there is
somebody there. Sam and Dean and Tessa all left the funeral home at the same time. Tessa and Dean are together and Tess is like where's your brother? Well, Sam had gotten zapped back into his own body because Pamela managed to whisper the incantation into his here before this dude attacked her while this guy was coming after her attacking her. Unfortunately, Sam sits up just in time to see Pamela get stabbed. Sam then uses his psychic abilities, throw the guy against the wall and exercise
him. And then he goes to Pamela was like, We need to get to the hospital and she's like, No, get me a drink. Like she shows that she's not bleeding that she's okay right now. And Sam does it. I was like, What the fuck sium
I thought it was weird. She was like, I can't. She was like, like, laughing. She's like, I can't die in this town. Just get me a drink. And I was like, I was like, I'd be I'd go get her drink. But I'd also be dialing 911 for any
Yeah, we just saved a Reaper. Like, I don't want you to die. And I don't want you to die. But ya know, I mean, Sam just makes her a drink. And she gets comfy on the bed. And she's obviously in pain, even though she's not bleeding out. But it just seems like Pamela gave up completely. And that made me really sad. It was just, it was just weird. Yeah, like
her saying she can't die in this town like she was she really thought she wasn't going to die. But then
like Sam knows the Reaper is here. Sam knows the Reaper has said Reaper is gonna read. I'm gonna get back to reading as soon as this is over. There just didn't seem to be enough urgency behind it.
Right. And I mean, like, I'm sorry, even if I was with somebody who was saying that to me. I'd be like, okay, cool. Chill here. I'm still calling for an ambulance. Like, I don't care what you say. Yeah, it was odd. So I don't know. That was just very strange that he just was like, Okay, we'll make you a drink and just sit here with you.
Dean's by himself walking down a street when Alistair appears. And it's like, you can't even fit me dean. And as he's approaching Dean, a bolt of lightning comes down from the sky and strike somebody. He's gone. Like he just disappears.
I was like, That's new.
He doesn't blow up or anything. He just vanishes. Yeah. Yeah, you did. And then D is like, what the fuck? And all of a sudden, Cassie lop Here's behind him. And he's like, Good job. Look, you did it. You stopped the seal. It didn't get broken. Thank you, Dean says, finally. You said Thanks, buddy. And he was purposely not looking at Dean quite a bit during this conversation. He was like looking off. Yeah, I was trying to figure out what that was
about. It's just too hard for him to look at him versus it is just too intense too much.
It's a little hard for me to say.
He looks so good though. Castile, whatever, the camera pan and he was there. I was like, ooh. Got a little shiver. Happy to see him happy to see him.
What were they even facing each other? Or was he like, mostly like, was like Dean,
Dean was kind of facing him kind of looking over facing him. But Castile was like looking up. And he looked at Dean every once in a while, but for the most part, he was talking to the ally. Weird. Oh, well. Castile explains like, I knew you could do it, buddy. That's why we set you on the case. Dean's like, wait, what do you mean? He's like, it wasn't Bobby. It was me. I'm the one who called and Dean said, Why didn't y'all just come and help
like, what the whole. He's like this stuff on the outside of the building. We couldn't get through there. Like that's why we recruited you and Sam in the first place to come help us with this stuff. And then Dean's like, Okay, so now these people are just gonna start dying again. And Cass says everything there is a season. And Dean's like a Can't you make an exception. And Cass is like no made an exception for you because you're different. And then he leaves because it's gas.
Yep. Tessa comes back and he's like, Hey, like I could use your help with something. Like, please come help me with this little boy. I was gonna go read them first and then just kind of feel bad like, well, you please go help me. And so Dean's like, Okay, fine. So they go back to coal. And the first thing Cole said is like, tell your brother. Thanks for nothing. Real mad? Because Sam lied. Oh, yeah. But they point out like, your mom is acting this way. Your mom is
sad. Your mom is grieving and she can't move on because you won't move on. So staying here isn't the answer. You're not helping her. Yeah. And Cole asks Tessa, what's next? Dean tells them like she's not going to answer because, you know, I think she was trying to be like that ruin the surprise and lows, just like fucking kidding me. And it's just like, go with Tessa. Because your family's gonna be gone one day, they're gonna move on. And you're not going to have anything left here
anymore. So everybody's scared of what's next. But that's okay. Like, you're gonna be fine. Cole agrees to go and leaves with Tessa. And right afterwards, it's like you can see the mom is like, almost relieved. But she can tell there's something different. Dean asked Tessa to look after coal. And she tells him that he should look after himself that she has been around death for her entire existence. And the one thing she knows is
that people lie about it. They tell someone that you know where you're going, it's going to be a better place. Yada, yada, yada yada. Tessa adds that she thinks Dean's idea about the angels, like using him for good or whatever. That was kind of the same thing. Like he's lying to himself. He's telling himself when he needs to in order to feel better about the situation and that he should trust his instincts. Because he knows something bad is coming. And he needs to be prepared for it.
I was a little confused by that. I was like, wow,
yeah, I was I was kind of like, Where is she going with this when she was talking about the how we lie to ourselves or whatever? I'm like sitting here, man. Like did you just tell him that that's a lie that we're not going oh, better please. Damn Tessa. But I guess like Dean didn't go to a better place. You know, so? Well, anyway, Dean here is Pamela's voice speaking. She finishes the incantation in
his ear and Dean wakes up. He's back in the hotel room with Sam and Pamela and Sam is helping her sit back down on the bed. Sam is begging Dean like we've got to talk to Tessa taller to hold off on reaping until we can get Pam to a hospital, which I guess they didn't want to leave Dean out there. You know, whatever. Maybe the timing of this. Maybe Maybe it all moved much more quickly than it seemed in the episode that this was like a five minute span. Yeah, it's just stretched out to be
longer than that on the show. So maybe it was shorter. And this does make a lot more sense than we thought it did. Anyway, Pamela says I think she's back to reaping already because she's bleeding out. Dean is coming over Pamela's drinking from her flask. She's got her hand over her stomach trying to like hold the blood there and she's just like, I didn't want to do this. I didn't want anything to do with this. God dammit.
See, she knew better to
shave she tells them to tell Bobby to go to hell forever even introducing her to them. Dean lies no just like Tessa said he would telling her to calm down. You're going into a better place, but Pamela calls him on it. Because fucking why? And then she grabs Sam and pulls him close, and whispers to him. I know what you did to that demon. And I can feel what's inside of you. Like, I know you think you have good intentions, but like, No, you don't. And Sam
kinda looks horrified. And then Pamela starts coughing and dice. Yeah. Dean is like, what did she say here? But Sam doesn't answer.
I mean, the road for both of them does not look great.
Things aren't looking. It's it was it was a grim episode.
Oh, oh,
thank God, because I didn't get very many clever jokes out this episode. So at least I got the one. That was good. That was clever. I'm proud of myself.
Good one. Back over here.
It was written by Jeremy Carver and directed by Steve boy. Yum. All right. What do you adore?
Well, I adored the Pamela's back because I've always liked her but that was short lived.
Yeah. And it just seems so she just seems so irritated and awkward. And like I said, Why were you there? Yeah, what I just it was good to see her but I just wish it was under better circumstances.
Yeah. And I like the Dean kind of finally like called Sam out for lying. And like, it's like again it whatever. You've got your secrets. But don't talk to me like a minute ago.
Yeah, I liked that. I liked Christopher higher dolls. Oh, yeah. Alistair i I hope he's not gone because Castile did say we've captured Alastair. That's true. So I'm hoping it's going to be the same actor playing him again. When we see him again, because we're bound to it. It was it was nice to have the Reaper lore learn a little bit more about that have that kind of brought back Yeah, into it, that they know about the angels
and all that other stuff. Which makes sense, because when Alistair was doing his whole speech, he was talking about the four horsemen, one of which is death. Obviously, the reapers have something to do with death. So they're connected somehow. Yeah. So it makes sense that they would kind of know what was going on. And yeah, that the character development was Sam and Dean pushing forward a little bit more that we're not
in a good place. Yeah, we've got Tessa saying, you want to believe the angels have good intentions, but you know, something's wrong. We've got Pamela telling Sam, you think you're acting in good intentions, but you know, it's wrong. So the road to hell is paved in good intention. Tension.
Yeah. Like,
there wasn't a whole lot of Gore in this episode at all. I would say the glorious thing was when Pamela started bleeding out. Yeah. So not much Gore to talk about at all. What about the lore?
Okay, well for the lore, it's about let me see if I can even say it right. Astral projection, astral projection. And I got so this is all from an article on live science.com I didn't do the whole article. I cut some pieces out because it was a lot. It says what is astral projection. The phenomenon was featured in the 2016 blockbuster dr. strange and
it's sequel dr. strange in the multiverse, multiverse of madness, where the titular tutor titular superhero has the ability to separate his physical body from his spiritual one, and engage in fights. The Netflix series behind her eyes also utilize this technique is a major aspect of its plot, where multiple characters have mastered this art. And yet astral projection is not just another creation of Marvel mat, Maestro Stanley or Netflix producer, producers. It is actually a spiritual practice
with a long history. Surveys suggests that between eight and 20% of people claim to have had something like an out of body experience at some point in their lives, like a sensation of the consciousness, spirit or astral body, leaving the physical body. Well most experiences occur during sleep or under hypnosis. Some people claim to do it while merely relaxing. The idea that humans can leave their bodies during dream states is ancient, countless people from New Year
is a GE RS Aigars agers. I have no idea that years. I don't know. To shamans around the world. New Agers, New Agers, okay, yeah. Oh, yeah. All right. Okay. Countless people from New Agers to shamans around the world believe that it is possible to commune with cosmic intelligence through visions, and vivid dreams experienced during astral projection, also known as out of body experiences. However, its most recent resurgence has its root in the spiritual boom of the 19
20s early 20th century. The idea comes from a 19th century mystical system called the yo Safi theosophy. theosophy which claims that we have seven bodies from the lowest physical to the highest spiritual and mental bodies. Though originally a private quasi religious meditative practice it has like many new age beliefs been
commercialized. astral travel can be big business and their books, seminars, DVDs and other materials that promise to teach students how to leave their physical bodies and access other dimensions, but does astral projection work? Practitioners of astral travel insists that the experience must be real because it is so vivid. And because some of the experiences are similar even for people from
different cultures. But it's not surprising that many people who try astral projection have similar experiences after all. That's what the term guided imagery is. When authority such as a psychologist or astral travel teacher tells the person that what they should expect and what they might experience. It may be a profound experience. But the fundamental problem is that there's really no way to scientifically measure whether or not a person's spirit leaves
or enters the body. The simplest and best explanation for out of body experience is that the person is merely fantasizing or dreaming. And because there's no scientific evidence that consciousness can exist outside of the brain astral projection is rejected by scientists. And there's more on all of that in the article if anyone wants to read more on it because it kind of goes a little more in depth but I didn't want to bog people
down. Though astral projection press practitioners insists their experiences are real, their evidence is all anecdotal. Just a person who takes peyote. Just as a person who takes peyote or LSD may be truly convinced that they interacted with God dead people are angels while in their altered state. Astral Projection is an entertaining and harmless pastime that can seem profound, and in some cases, even life
changing. But there's no evidence that out of body experiences can happen outside of the body instead of inside the brain and until the existent until the existence of an astral plane can be proven and made accessible. There's always the continuing adventures of the sorcerer supreme
well quote to close it out when they are at the graveyard and Sam is trying to tell Dean that you know they're not normal he says I'm infected with fucktard What the hell? I'm infected with demon blood you've been to hell look I know you want to think of yourself as Joe the Plumber Dean, but you're not neither am I the sooner you accept that the better off you're gonna be. Cheers. Thank you for listening to denim wrapped nightmares.
