Berly

Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.

LA

over drinks, we'll discuss the lore of gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly

I'm burly, and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA

I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy. Well, hello Burley.

Berly

On our last episode, Sam and teen met Linda Blair. Yes, there was a whole kerfuffle around a murder and Dean being the primary suspect wasn't Dean. It was actually one of the cops all along. And there was this death Omen ghost that they thought was a vengeful spirit who's potentially doing the murders. But she wasn't she was just trying to warn everybody about the douchebag cop who was

killing everybody. In all the kerfuffle Dean is discovered by cops to not be dead so wax on that he's He's a wanted man yet again because of all of this but they did not get arrested Linda Blair cop, let them go. Because she saw the death Omen ghost. And that that that's that. Yeah, that's what happened. She let them go. And douchebag Pete cop did not get the D. They clearly wanted. He wanted Jean and a lot of ways. I think so. Yeah. Belinda took care of him. Right.

Like whenever he got Dean out of the bathroom down.

LA

Oh my gosh, yeah. loosened up his tie. I

Berly

was like, what is happening is about what are we about to witness? I was really worried for Dean there for a second, but it turned out he just wanted to kill Brett.

LA

Well, I think you want to do a little more with him before he killed them. But I think so to just my theory. Okay, well, this episode today is named or I don't know why I'm having problems with past and present tense.

Berly

They're hard. Talking so hard. Difficult. Sincerely, though English is one of the hardest languages. True. I

LA

know. I know. Well, yeah. Okay. Okay, let's start that over. All righty. All right. Today's episode is called crossroad blues. We start out in 1938. I know we were like Whoa, yeah, it was like a we're taking way back way back.

Berly

We were bitching about the flashbacks in the last episode. And then this one started with a flashback. We back. Yeah, we're in

LA

Mississippi. There is a guy up. Well, it's not even a stage he's just kind of on. On display, like a makeshift stage. Yeah. And he's it's just him. He's sitting there with his acoustic guitar plan with a cigarette hanging up. Got the hat on the suit on that's

Berly

mark that he Yeah, I was like, I literally

LA

wrote Okay, guitar player.

Berly

And then real cute.

LA

He was kind of like flirt and wincon grid. And at the one lady that was she was very intent on listening to what he was putting out. I don't blame her. Yeah, all of a sudden, he starts hearing what I thought was wolves. It sounded like howling. So I just assumed, so he's the only one that can see what's going

Berly

on. Right? He's the only one who can hear me kind of crazy. And he's the only one who can see them. Yes.

LA

He after the howling starts, he starts to see kind of these fast moving shadows on the windows. He gets freaked out and takes off out of the bar. It was just like a little bar that they were

Berly

in. I theorize it was Lloyds bar. Oh, me, apparently. Right. Because little crossroads. And it shows later in the episode looked very similar. Right. Okay. They didn't confirm that. Right.

LA

But I'm sure you're right. He's running. He's being chased by something. We can't see it. He's clearly terrified. Runs into like a barn

Berly

I guess, or something. It was either a barn or I think I thought it was his house. Okay, maybe. But it was 1938.

LA

Something is like banging on the door. He's terrified. The people we saw at the bar are the ones who ended up knocking down the door and he's like having a seizure or something on the ground. And the lady that he had been kind of smirking at is like, don't leave me to leave me. And he leaves her.

Berly

He does and he's saying big black dogs.

LA

Yes. Yeah. And then we're in supernatural modern day at a diner. Flash forward. Yeah. Sam saying that they need to be more careful now that after what happened and there's a warrant out in St. Louis, still for Dean. And Dean asks what what's out there for Sam and seems like oh, they probably just shouldn't have posted it yet. Dean teases Oh, you're just you're a little too straight laced. You don't have anything on you. And he's like, Oh, you're jealous of his

Berly

bad boy ways. Like Feel like Sam kind of was

LA

Oh yeah, the way he was looking he was just shouldn't have probably didn't post.

Berly

By the way, audience la totally just did a full impersonation pretending to type on a laptop and everything like you could see me pretending to be Sam. Yeah, it was very accurate. Thank

LA

you. Thank you. I'm

Berly

impressed.

LA

Avoiding the conversation, I think Sam decides to start talking about this death that he he heard about, of a man who before they I guess before he died, was claiming there were black dogs after him. And he plummeted to his death from the condo building that he built. The guys know, or do they know that their whole homes at

Berly

this point? They don't know their whole house, but Dean was saying something. I think it was Dean. It was either Dean or Sam saying something about how did this vicious black dog get past the doorman? Right into the elevator up to the penthouse. You know, something's not adding up,

LA

right. Okay. Yeah. So they of course had that way to just say where they are.

Berly

Doesn't matter. Oh, wait, they did mention that black dogs were death omens? Oh, I think I did write that deny. And we were like, Oh, man. It's like what you researched last time. Right? Yeah. Good about that cat since Yeah, we only had black cats. No black dogs, black butterflies.

LA

That's true. True. True. I think on another one i i was looking at there were like, black owls or something else too. Anyway,

Berly

a dean felt it appropriate to say look at this black dog. It humped the fuck out of your leg.

LA

Yeah. And Sam didn't like it. But then I was like, But Dean was like, but he could. And in my mind, he was like, oh, because he's so big. He could do that to Jared. Because he

Berly

saw. Oh, so in my mind, I was thinking I'm perverted. And my mind will go the direction of humping every chance you get. But even I wouldn't look at a picture of a dog and immediately, like, Yeah, that could that could help my leg. Yeah, no, no, no, thank

LA

you. I've had that happen before.

Berly

So I don't I'm just saying Sam's response was appropriate, in my opinion, be like it was bad.

LA

However, back to the story. The guys go to the condo and talk to the victim's partner, I think. And we learn to it was Sean Boyd.

Berly

It was his architectural partner like with business. But the way he was talking about him made me he's a

LA

little bitter seat. Yeah. I was like, what? What's the jelly one here? Jelly Bean. Yeah, yeah, he was because the guys were posing as journalists from architecture, Architectural Digest. And they were saying that they wanted to do a tribute to him. And his partner was like, I mean, he got tributes in

life. And he was like, in working in a bar 10 years ago, and then out of nowhere, he's this genius architect and getting all these tributes to him and even in his death, and he leaves me and his family alone. He's still getting a tribute. So yeah, he's bitter, bitter, bitter.

Berly

Jealous. Yeah. It was between somewhere between idolizing and despising. Yeah, it was an odd conversation. Right? That guy needs therapy. Yes.

LA

Yeah. So the guys realized that, you know, if these people are thinking, or if he was thinking, these black dogs were after him, they probably would have called Animal Control. Dean goes in and finds out that there was a Sylvia Perlman recently. And she called in 19 times about a black dog chasing her or being outside of her home a little

suspicious. Yeah. And Dean gives the report to Sam after talking about the set little Secretary that he spoke with named Carly and said some misogynistic, yeah, saying, Oh, he gives Dean A her MySpace address, and Dean is clueless on what that is. They find Sylvia's address and go there. Her maid lets them in, and the maid saying she hasn't seen her lately, but she was

reporting seeing black dogs. And apparently, she's been a surgeon, Chief of Surgery, Chief of service surgery, the youngest in the house history of the hospital, and she got the job, conveniently 10 years ago, just like Shawn, when he was at his bartending job, and then magically became this genius archetype.

Berly

They also were both hanging out at Lloyds bar,

LA

boom, boom, boom. And we know that uh, well, we know that because dean will. Wait, how did we know about Shawn?

Berly

Whenever jelly MC Jellison was talking about That's right. That's where he barked the bartender at Lloyds bar.

LA

Right. Okay. And then Sylvia, there's a picture of her from 1996 that Dean sees, and it clearly states Lloyd's bar, so they know there's something going on. Near Lloyd's bar. We do see Silvia and she's a mess. She is panic. She's in a guessing a motel room. She is just I mean shaking. Hail. All kinds of sweaty Yeah. clammy probably freaked the fuck out.

Yeah. And a guy comes Oh, I guess the super whatever comes the door asking she needs to pay if she's gonna keep staying there because she's already late. She gets the money opens the door and the guy's face just turns into like, like a dead distorted face. And it's it was creepy. She freaks out throws the money at him and shuts the door.

Berly

It kind of looks like the face in I think it's the ring when you show the when it shows the bodies after?

LA

Yeah, yeah. All distorted Yeah, gross.

Berly

Do you need another one? Yeah, are do you?

LA

Okay? The boys. I feel like I should start saying the guys. Luthra boys are not our little boy Dave.

Berly

I like the boys. All the boys. Normally got our boy I like to clarify there are

LA

okay, so the guys decide. They need to go see about Lloyd's bar and what the hell's going on there. As they pull up. D notices these yellow looking flowers and says do you think these are planted here on purpose? They're in SAM mentions that they're Yarrow flowers. Is that how he said it?

Berly

Yarrow? Because I kept thinking he was saying arrow that's flowers.

LA

Okay. Yarrow flowers, and Dean says that those are used to summon spells. The bar is also right at a crossroads where four points intersect. And right in the middle is apparently like where people summon things. And is that right?

Berly

I assume so. Because they walked toward the center. Yeah, they knew exactly what Shane asks would Wouldn't you say? This is about the center? Yeah. And Sam said yes. They don't ever explain why they did that. But I assume that's where you go to some of them.

LA

Yeah. So of course in their Winchester fashion, they got to pull out their decks. Oh. I missed that part. Okay, no, pull up a shovel, because they're always digging stuff up. They don't dig very far. And they find this old school tin box. And inside our cat bones. What they assume is old graveyard dirt,

Berly

which they assumed it was black cat bones as well. That's right. Yes, you and I were both like how did you know that? Of course. It's just a black

LA

cat. And Dean mentions that that some like deep south who do stuff. hoodoo voodoo. I thought was interesting. They just kept calling it hoodoo.

Berly

It's actually two very different things is it? Voodoo is like an actual religion but who is more of a practice? I'll be talking about that a little bit in the lore.

LA

Okay. And so it's mentioned that this is some like deep south who do stuff. I already said that. And that Pax PAX, I put I wrote P ac KSPATP. AC T s is what I needed.

Berly

You're still being way fancier than me because I would just change that to deals because I'd be all like pack Okay, well

LA

pack tack deals are made are typically made at Crossroads we learned.

Berly

For our regular listeners, you all know that. I actually started paying attention to supernatural roughly halfway through the series. So I got super excited thinking a certain someone was going to appear in this episode. And he didn't. And I was very sad.

LA

We're gonna get there eventually. I

Berly

know. Well,

LA

I don't know. So don't tell me. I did

Berly

play that audio clip for you just for you to hear. Oh, yeah, I heard that. Yeah, you were happy?

LA

Yeah. The was a British.

Berly

I think so British. British. That's always good. He's delicious. Whatever he is.

LA

Anywho Sam says that since they discovered this as across the road situation, these pacts and deals are happening that the these people aren't seeing black dogs but hellhounds then we are back to check on Dr. Perlman Sylvia Perlman that the chief, we were

Berly

crazy who threw her money in the motel who was just like she's like, three or money slam the door.

LA

She is starting to hear the hell hounds at her door banging on the door. I mean, poor thing is just so scared. They bust in from the window. The scene was pretty cool. You were you were excited about it. Literally, like the claws scratched through her pant leg into her thigh, like cut her thigh. And then they just they drag her out by that one leg and she's gonna,

Berly

anytime they're fighting an invisible foe, just what they have to do what the actors have to do on what the cameraman does and everything. I just always think it's it's creative. You have to get more creative that way. You're not relying on CGI. And in some ways, I think it's better than having The CGI monster they're doing the stuff. Yeah. So yeah, I liked that scene. It was it was really cool.

LA

Then we're jumping out to 1930 again with our guitar guy, and we see him bearing the 10 that the guys had dug up. There's a very pretty lady there and white, which was gorgeous. Oh, this demon or whatever is just walk into him and why look at beautiful and gorgeous hair. Yeah. He tells her his wish he wants to play the guitar and have that talent. And she seals it with a kiss. The deal is made the pact is there. He's got 10 years, just like everybody else.

The guys learn once they go to Lloyds that it was Robert Johnson, apparently and a bunch of his songs. There's a bunch of occult references to I think he even that says something about hellhounds in one and I can't remember what else they mentioned.

Berly

His most infamous song is titled crossroad blues. Okay, same as this episode.

LA

Sam is wanting to help these people, you know, save them. Dean seems a little not on board. He's like, I don't want to clean up these people's messes they made they are the ones that made the deal. It's their fate, whatever. But say, um, I think Sam mentions debt like he thinks dad would have dad made a deal like that. And of course Dean's like

Berly

fucking talks about this.

LA

Sam always hit me with the dad shit like, man. They decide to go into Lloyds. George Darrow is like a little legend at Lloyds. And he lives there. Is it his bar?

Berly

I don't know. I didn't make a note of that. Yeah. Anyway, they

LA

get to his door.

Unknown

He's an artist, though, right? Yes. Yeah, he's an artist. His art was some of it was a little disturbing. I liked the one that that he said he was finishing when he was working on Yeah, I mean, it was cool. But some of it was like, Ooh, yeah. Interesting.

LA

Before they knock, they see something at the foot of the door, which they are like, it's usually salt. What is this? Because it's black blackish, gray, Georgia and says answers the door and the guys make mention of this stuff that's at the door. And he calls it goofer dust, which I think is such a funny name. I like it. He says it's who do stuff that keeps out the demons. And his grandma taught them all about it. Shout out grandma.

Berly

Whoop, thanks, Granny

LA

Darrow George is like, he knows what's coming for him. Like he's very aware. And the guys are, you know, wanting to help him. He just is basically saying like, no, like, I've had my time. Like, I know what's coming for me. I don't need your help all that jazz.

Berly

He basically says, I just want to finish this last thing I'm working on, which is the coolest painting in the room. Yeah, I want to finish this. Yeah, that's what I want to get done before they come for me. So go save somebody that wants to be saved. Yeah.

LA

He was a little melancholy about it, though. A little bit because he was like, you know, you. I may? Well, I guess in his explanation of why he did it. You know, you want you want your life to mean something. And I think he realizes like he, he wanted fame. Like he didn't want to just be an artist. He wanted to be a famous artist. And he's like, I should have been a little more specific and asked for fame rather than the talent. But hey, it could happen after he dies. That's how a lot of

artists were happening. That's great for him. I don't know his name. Oh, live on put

Berly

you're gonna leave a legacy. Yeah, exactly. Fictional Kara. Character, George. Dara. Yeah, he's

LA

a great artist.

Berly

We're trying to. We're trying to make sure you feel better about your deal. Well,

LA

George mentions that, yes, he made the deal 10 years ago when this demon was there. And I thought it was kind of crazy that the demons stuck around after she made the deal with George. And if she said specifically, it was a she. So she just kind of hung out at the bar was like, Hey, anybody else want to make a deal? She's efficient. Like, while I'm here, let me get a few more in

Berly

I got quota.

LA

She's like, she's like, it's the end of the month, guys. Like I gotta I gotta get this taken care of. They said they knew about Sylvia Perlman. They knew about him. And then Shawn Boyd, but they asked if there was anybody else. And he says, he thinks that there was another one named Evan Hanson. Sweet, sweet Sam makes one more last attempt with George to like, let them help them and he basically tells them No, get out. He's good.

Berly

Here's some goofer dust. Yeah.

LA

Oh, yeah. Yeah, give them a little package of the goofer dust. So funny. Next, we are at Evans house, and Evans on his computer and his pretty wife walks in and she's going to see his her sister and he's, you know, you haven't seen her for a while and it sounds like he kind of pushed her to go to get out of town because I think obviously he knew something was coming for him too. He gives her a hug. and tells her you know, he loves her. He loves her forever. He's gonna love her

forever. And it's a little much and she's like, okay, like, settle down. Before she leaves. She turns around again to talk to him. And it's the crazy face like the guy at the motel. Oh, the dead face. Ooh. And hers was even creepier. I feel like,

Berly

yeah. Because it was it made it even more creepy whenever it cut to Evan being scared and cut back to her. And she goes, I love you, too. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I'm like, your smile is scaring me right now. Because of what your face just did. And Evans eyes.

LA

Yeah. The, the wife leaves with her normal face. Because the guys come in, or they come to the door knock ever than answers. But he slams the door in their face, basically. Because he thinks that they're the demons that are coming to take.

Berly

Yeah, they're like, weren't you at Lloyds? Yeah, so about 10 years ago, and Evans face just immediately changes to Oh, shit, and he slams

LA

the door. It was sad, funny.

Berly

They were like, we're not demons. But he didn't answer the door again. After that. They had to kick it in.

LA

And they get they get Evans settle down and tell him convince them. They're not the ones to take him. And he reveals that he may they assume he made a deal something about himself, like for his success or what have you. But he tells them that he made the deal for his wife, Julie, to save her that she was cancer. She was getting put in hospice. And he didn't want to live without her. Which I thought this was kind of interesting that Dean huger, he

wasn't cool with this. He was like, didn't you think about her when you made that decision? Like it's pretty selfish. Like you're, you didn't want to live without her. But she's now going to have to live without you. And you knew that. And he's, I don't know, it was just like a surprise that was coming from Dean.

Berly

It makes sense, though, because he's the one who's suffering from survivor's guilt right now, because of what his dad did. Yeah. So he's projecting basically his guilt and anger onto Evan. Yeah, Sam was the one who just keeps going. I wonder if I wonder if while Dean is just sitting there tormented because he's wandering all this stuff all the time? Yeah.

LA

But to himself quietly,

Berly

suffering in silence. With his chiseled jawline.

LA

They decide that Sam is going to stay with Evan with the goofer dust and keep up with the hoodoo stuff to keep the hounds out as long as he can. And Dean is going to go back to the crossroads, and some of the demon at the crossroads. Dean starts to do a chant to summon the demon. Sam is at Evans he spreads the gopher dust around all the windows, all the doors, he puts a circle around Evan himself, and tells everyone to just stay frickin put. Do not

get out of this circle. Dean's doing the summons, or he finally summons the demon. And she's pretty fabulous.

Berly

She's I was about to say she's bad. She's sassy. She was good. We liked her.

LA

Yeah. Dark hair, dark eyes. She's in a black dress. She was sassy. I liked it.

Berly

She wasn't mad

LA

right now.

Berly

But she was she was good. She was good in her own right. Yeah.

LA

Dean tells her you know, he starts to say like he's offering himself up in exchange for Evan to live and her not take him out. And the demon makes comment about Oh, Father Like Son, right? triggering for Dean. He's like, You know what, let's take this a little private. We'll come get my car. And she's really just like taunting him about his dad. It's not nice. He opens the door for her to get in the car and she's about to step in, but looks down and sees white chalk. And it's like a

double trap. Like, come on, guys. Come on, Dean. You really thought you were gonna get me with that. Then we see that the hounds are coming in fast for Evan. Like they're they're beating on all the windows, all the doors and Sam even like steps in the circle himself. He's like, okay, it's about I mean, it was cute. I need to get saved.

Berly

Because Sam couldn't hear them. I was telling him I hear them they're coming I hear them. And so Sam was kind of relying on Evan at first but then the doors to the room they were in started shaking. And Sam just it's just step over this little threshold right here.

LA

Yeah. The demon says she's she's not going to terminate a binding contract with Evan it's not going to happen. And as she's taught, like her indeed are kind of like walking. He's kind of walking backward a little or and she's kind of following him still taunting him and whatnot. Lo and behold, it turns out he kind of I don't know what the awning thing was that he kind of led her into

Berly

water tower or a windmill, or who knows what's in the middle of nowhere, right this

LA

bar and she looks up and she's in a double strap. Again. They, they they came prepared or Dean came prepared anyway, she starts trying to convince Dean, you know, let's make a deal. Like bring your dad back. You get 10 good years in with him. You know, that's a lifetime for some people. Dean is not I mean, of course he's interested but he's not gonna fall for it. And he starts chanting and Latin to, I guess exercise her send her off whatever. Yeah, because he had the rosary beads with the

grass in his hand. Yeah, he was performing an exorcism, then it cuts back to Evans. And we just see the wind starts picking up the wind blows away the goofer does the guys run into this room, slam the door shut, the banging continues. And then all of a sudden it stops. So say we assume Dean has done his deed and sending that demon back to Hello. But then we see them making out and stuff. So Dean has made some sort of deal with her. We do not know what it is. But we do know that she decided

to let Evan go. And Dean is letting her go. Instead of sending her back to hell. And there's been some sort of pact made

Berly

kudos to her for taking advantage of that kiss. Yes, she Yeah, she made the most of her moment

LA

he did. I can't blame her. After the kiss the dean, this demon. I mean, I liked her. But man, she was a bitch. She

Berly

was such a batch. She was bad, though.

LA

Almost directly after the kiss, she starts to telling him Oh, you will you know, you really should have made the deal to bring your dad back if you knew where he was, and starts talking about if he could only hear the sounds he makes in like his suffering and everything. So we are to assume he's in hell,

Berly

which makes sense. You make a deal with a demon. Yeah, you're not typically going to end up in heaven for that. And John Winchester made a deal with a demon to save Dean's life.

LA

And when Dean tells Sam about it Sam's like well, I mean, what if she's lying? You know, he wants he doesn't want that to be true. And Dean, of course, I mean, he knows it's true. And he's upset. Like, he's like, how could he have done that? He sacrificed himself for me, but like, I have to live with it. And now the fact that I know he's in hell, poor Dean, like he's, he's going through it

a lot. And Sam mentions, you know, dad's legacy is how many people he saved not what happened him in the end what he did all that. And he also questioned Sam Dean, and he's like, You weren't like really considering sacrificing yourself to bring dad back, right? I mean, Sammy, Sammy needs his bro. He needs D more than he needs Daddy Daddy needs or D needs daddy sometimes more than you need Sam. Yeah,

Berly

I would agree. Yeah.

LA

That's, that's it. That's the episode for Crossroads blues.

Berly

I liked this one.

LA

I did. Do I like kind of going back in time

Berly

to Yeah, a little bit. The incorporation of Robert Johnson was really cool. Yeah, that was a nice little origin story. So to speak. For crossroad deals. I was a little disappointed whenever a certain character didn't show up. But it's early in the series. He I will I let the I know he shows up eventually. Yeah. Something to look forward to CLI Patience is the virtue. Yeah.

LA

I think the only Gore was like

Berly

Zavier. Yeah, the doctor lady getting attacked was really good. Yeah. Other than that, it was just like the creepy faces. Yeah. Yeah, I liked this one. I did too. I like it. So onto the lore. First thing I decided to research was Robert Johnson. He is a real person, which this is the second real person that we've had be a part of the lore. Since we've started this season. We had HH Holmes in no exit. And now we have Robert Johnson. In this episode. He did die under

mysterious circumstances. Oh, really, they don't really understand what killed him. According to legend, as a young man living on a plantation in rural Mississippi, Johnson had a tremendous desire to become a great blues musician. One of the legends often told says that Johnson was instructed to take his guitar to a crossroad near Dockery plantation at midnight.

There are claims of other sites of the location of this crossroads, but all of them involve him going to a crossroads, hence the name of one of his most infamous songs Crossroads blues. There, he was met by a large black man who was the devil. And he took the guitar and tuned it, the devil tuned it for him, played a few songs and then returned the guitar to Johnson, giving him

mastery of the instrument. The story of a deal with the devil at the crossroads mirrors the legend of Faust, which I'll talk about a little bit later. In exchange for his soul Johnson was able to create the blues for which he became famous. He died he was only like 27 years old, really? And again, it was under mysterious circumstances. They aren't really sure what killed them. But everything that Dean said about talking about crossroads and all that kind of

stuff in his songs true. Yeah. So I thought that was a fun little fact in the lore. Now there are a couple of different things that I could have chosen to do lore for this episode, I decided to focus on deals with the devil. Okay, I know hellhounds will come up later. Okay, so we can research that on a later episode. The idea of brokering deals dates back long before Western folklore was created. This is according to hidden remote.com hoodoo lore is full of the idea of deals made

at crossroads. Papa legba is one of the most commonly named demons or devils featured in hoodoo crossroad lore, which you may have heard of Papa legba, especially if you watch American horror stories gonna say yeah, he was featured heavily in the Coven season. Papa legba is believed to be the bridge between the spirit world and humanity and popular lore. He is thought to have the power to allow or deny communication with spirits and the afterlife, which is why he's known as the quote,

great communicator. The religion in which Papa legba serves as a deity originated in Africa, and the spiritual beliefs came to the US when slaves were captured and taken to the country. In some areas, Papa legba was viewed as a trickster rather than the God of crossroads. Either way, it was imperative to present offerings to Papa like bot when asking for aid. This is

according to screen rant.com. In English tradition, crossroads, were also the sights of burying some of the dead, mostly criminals and those who killed themselves. The idea was that they would be buried away from the settlements and the Crossroads would confuse the dead, preventing them from returning to haunt. And also so they would walk the afterlife and turmoil which Oh, this could be where the idea of the crossroad demons comes into

play. The dead may have become those to make deals with the people who were buried in these crossroads areas in order for the dead to hopefully get a soul and move on in the afterlife. Okay. According to Wikipedia and Western folk mythology, a crossroads can be used to summon a demon or devil in order to make a deal. The legend can be

seen in many stories. For example, the 1587 Historia Von D Johann fallston described the character of Faust inscribing magic circles at a crossroads in order to summon the devil, which I don't know a lot about Faust. This is so stupid. But in the 90s this movie came out this western movie called tombstone

LA

oh my god, I love that movie. And when

Berly

they go to the Playhouse and they see a play being acted out, remember Val Kilmer is Doc Holliday and why? Like there? That's that spouse. They're doing Faust out there. I don't know why I know that. But I do. And the woman that Wyatt Earp ends up with at the end, she was the one playing the devil. Oh, during the play with phallus where he's making his deal with the devil thing. Oh, that's cool. Now I want to watch it

again. Such a good movie. Yeah. Anyway, so fastest attempts to conjure a devil and knit this Dilys mist Mr. Phyllis, Mr. Phyllis,

LA

Miss Mephisto. Phyllis. Mr. Miss, I don't know.

Berly

Let's call it Mephisto. Okay, yeah, let's Marvel. Yeah. Okay, so Mephisto arrives. phallus just believes that he has summoned him but the Fisto says that He came with his own accord.

LA

Master Phyllis, then. Right.

Berly

Mephisto Phyllis festivals, the festivals. Yeah, I think so. Anyway, the Fisto says he serves Lucifer and can't do anything without his leave valses questions but there's so about Lucifer and hell and tells him to speak to Lucifer and return. So Mephisto goes and chats with Lucifer and returns and phalluses sounds a contract songs, signs a contract in his

own blood. The Fisto will serve him for 24 years so not 10 I'm not sure where the 10 comes very I wonder why 24 At which point Lucifer will claim him body and soul so Faustus there's a whole story about it. Where Faust is sells his soul to the devil basically, okay. Also in Christian lore, the idea of making a deal with the dead Have all led to the creation of witchcraft. Some of the deals include fame, wealth, youth, beauty, etc. This is the stuff we're typically used to hearing.

The soul that has made the deal faces eternal damnation which is exactly what supernatural used when souls went to hell. A mark wouldn't be left behind when someone made a deal with the devil or a demon even verbal agreements would have a mark. Many in the past believed that birthmarks moles and other scarring were marks of the devil. No, I have a birthmark and so that's what I found as far as crossroad deals.
