And off we go for the Minnesota Goodbye. We had a lot of little emails today, so I think there's a couple of bigger ones, but a lot of short ones. So here we go. Dave, you brought up this book that you had your parents fill out, and I had fell in love with the idea. Mine. I don't think it's available anymore. Mine was probably filled up by mom and dad many years ago. But it was something like Grandpa's Story and Grandma's Story, and it was a very simple little
book meant for kids to talk about what was Christmas? Like, what were your chores? Did you watch TV? Were you allowed to whatever? And my mom and dad filled it out and it's just very sweet and I'm really glad they did it. Sidney goes on to say, I'm trying to look this up. I'm only a coming across this one book, the Grandparent Book of Memories. Was this the one you were referring to? Or are there other options? Or I might just bad at shopping online. Thanks for the
idea. I'm about to buy multiples to get them to mine and my husband's grandparents asap. The one she found is called the Grandparents Book of Men. Marie's one hundred questions to recall the time of your times of your life. I think that'll work Sydney. Like I said, mine was a long time ago, probably thirty ish years ago, and I'm sure they don't sell it anymore. But I think it was called Grandpa's Stories or Grandma's Stories. But this one looks like it'll do just fine, So that'll work. Next one,
Dave and Jenny. My name is Chase Fisher. I am emailing on behalf of my wife, Tiff. One of our goals in life is to come to Minnesota and meet Dave Ryan in the cast of the morning show. We've been listening for probably ten to fifteen years now. We were grateful on how you guys cheerfully get us through each day with smiles on our face. Next week, I've got time off work and thought this might be my best
opportunity to take my wife out of town. We live in Idaho and head towards Minnesota for a football game and maybe stopping to say hi to our favorite radio show, maybe get her book sign that she has from Dave. I know none of this sounds like your standard operating procedure, but I thought maybe you would find it cool to meet a life fan from Idaho and make her year. Let me know if this is something that is even possible. I appreciate you taking time to read this. Hope to hear back from you soon.
Chase, you would not be the first person, believe it or not, who has come to our show and you don't live here. I was gonna say, I have set up so many different people that have come in. I remember this cope Brittany came in with I believe it was her husband at the time. They're definitely married now and she lives in DC. And
then I mean, we've had people from all over I know. I know there was one person recently who was dropping off their kid at college and they did a detour through Minneapolis just to specifically like see it because of us talking about it. But we weren't around. It was a weekend, so we weren't around studio and stuff like that. But yeah, we can do that, Chase and Tiff, we would love to have you out here. I think it's so flattering that you live in another state but bond with us enough
that you want to come by and meet us. You would not be the first there was Jennifer from Texas. There was one I've kind of lost touch with. She was from Atlanta. Oh my gosh, what was her name? She came to Star Party David and Lisa from Detroit. Jill from New Jersey was one of the first and she listened and lived in New Jersey and we had her out here ten ish years ago and we took her to Booty Cruiz Mall of America, the five eight Club and we just had a great
time. So absolutely, I gave him my direct email to send. We'll get that set up. So chase next one. Kay? That one is we might save for that one. On the air. This one says Happy Thursday, David. Jenny from Maddie Dave, wondering if you'd be able to elaborate on the story behind beside behind Crisco Sorry Nabisco leaving KWB and what he did that left a sour taste in your mouth. You piqued my interest when you mentioned it on Tuesday. I can give you a little bit, but
I want to make it clear I'm not ripping on the kid. We are good friends and I love him and he is just a good person. But basically when he left, he was working here getting part time hours, and he kept asking for full time, and I kept saying, well, you've got to work and get full time. We don't give you full time and then expect the work out of you. We really want to see you improve with your work habits, that type of thing. Then if you're improve with
your work habits, we'll give you full time. And Chris go was not happy with that apparently, so he got an offer from another radio station and he left. Now, the thing is, you can quit and you can leave. But when you build up a character on a show for ten years, and we built him up on Katibb, he was on for ten years. I did not know he was on that long. He was on for ten years he started and I want to say two thousand two, like the summer of two thousand and two or so, and he was here until about
twenty twelve. So you build up a character, and you establish a character, and you let every but you know who they are. You don't just hand that off. It's kind of like if you're Coca Cola and you have your secret formula, you don't hand it to Pepsi and say here you go take this, because they built it up So there's kind of a thing in radio where if you are built up on one radio station and that's how you become known, we don't like you to go to another station. For example,
I've been here for thirty years. This station would not want me to walk over to I don't know k QRS and do a morning show over there or a midday show, because it's like, no, we built you up, they don't get you. So Chrisco did that. He didn't realize what he was doing and how harmful it was to us to hand off one of our secret weapons to another radio station. But it's all behind us. It was ten years ago and we're fine. Yeah, but that's kind of what
happened. But it was annoying to me that he didn't realize what he was doing. So but again, like I said, we love each other and we're fine. Random question. A few days ago, you played Robin Show Me Love. I personally love all of Robin's songs, but apparently it was not for everyone. Some friend of Dave's texted in complaining, are there any songs that come to mind that are more polarizing? Obviously, if you're not the target audience, baby shark will be annoying as hell. Thanks for all
the laughs. You're semi regular contributing writer, Andrew. Seriously, I need more fighter fiber. That's what we're calling people who write into the show. Contributing writers. Is that it contributing writer, jaff staff writer. We've gone staff writer and contributing writer. Okay. Any songs that are more polarizing, I don't know. I know that Jenny doesn't like Fast Car, but only because you've heard it so many times, right, Yeah, I did not
like it when I first heard it. I just am sick of hearing it now. I think the CARDI b one, what's it called Night on the Town or what's it called I'll Paint the Town, Paint the Town red? I don't like that one. And it's also like a big TikTok dance trend right now, and I watched it every time it comes on my algorithm. Yeah, it's not really you know, I don't hate it. I think the problem. I think one of the things is we always have the option
of turning the songs down when they come on. I don't think there's any god really polarizing song. Are they saying in general or what we play, right, now probably in general, okay, because I wasn't say there's definitely plenty of songs out there that are like that. I mean, for sure, Cardi B and Megan the Stallion's Whop People. I'm not gonna love that song. And I'm trying to think maybe baby got back in the back in the day. It was kind of polarizing, but either you loved it or
you hated it. I would have to think on that, Andrew so, but that is some good food for thought. Next one, Liz says, I think it was the end of the show podcast today when you were talking about Netflix and Blockbuster, because there was a story about how back in the day, like thirty years ago, Blockbuster had a chance to buy Netflix for fifty million and they passed on it, but they obviously should have. I used to work in Hollywood Video for three years. It was my first job.
We had the new release titles guaranteed in stock deal or it's free kind of a deal before Blockbuster. That always pissed me off when people said we copied Blockbuster. Okay, anyway, my Netflix DVD subscription is coming to an end. On Friday, I downloaded the list of rented and rated movies shocked. I've been a subscriber for eighteen years. I think the mail service has really gone to shit and made it not as fun. I didn't realize they
still did the mail service. They're just ending it. I think it ends like maybe for this Friday, because they were doing it for That's how they started. They rented DVDs, and dependent on your level of membership, you could have one or two or five DVDs out at a time, and you could keep them as long as you want, and when you were done, you'd mail it back in and order another one. So I've been expecting my last two discs since Monday, the Wednesday she wrote this yesterday, still not
here, zero mail yet again boo. I was really hoping to get my movies Monday, watch them return them and get new ones for my keepers. It is absolutely gone to shit. I used to get movies returned Thursdays, get new one Saturdays. That hasn't happened in years. I'm so hoping my last movies get here soon. I probably should look into Redbox anyway. Nothing terribly interesting. I guess my thoughts on Netflix DVD going away another chapter in
my life. I still stream, but the titles are just not the same anyway. Happy Thursday to you. The obligatory dart lick dart lick from Liz, Thank you, Liz. Next one from Caitlin. Dave, Jenny Drake. Want to tell you, first and foremost, I really appreciate all the work you put into making the Morning Show what it is. You all provide an insane amount of free entertainment for me and so many others, and I think everybody would agree. We sincerely appreciate being so open with your lives for
the listeners. One thing that keeps eating away at me, Yes, let's talk about it. The personnel changes on the show. Losing Steve was difficult. You've managed to carry on higher, Drake and continue to humor me in new and different ways. You seriously know what you're doing, David's obviously obvious why you're so successful. That said, I understand budget cuts. I work in marketing, where we are the socks of strip poker always the first to go. I like that, the socks of strip Poker. Yeah, we
can usually make our new situations work and life goes on. But at what cost? You said you were seriously worried Jenny would be taken on more than a healthy amount of work. So I guess my question is how do we as fans of the show continue to support you all through your budget personnel cuts and still be able to advocate for the health of the people providing the entertainment. Thank you again for everything you do from Kate, But I don't know,
Jenny, is there anything that you would say to that. I mean, there's nothing that she can do. You listening to the show is what we need. We need people to listen. We need people to listen on the iHeart app. If you missed a segment, go back and listen to it on the iHeart app. Because it's how we make our advertising dollars as we prove that people listen to us, which means then they will hear the advertising if people want to advertise with us. So it's just important to have
you listen. I don't know that there's any other solution, Like you do what you're already doing, and you listen to our show. I think that's it. I think listening to the show number one is the most supportive thing. And I think also participating in the show and any text message that says hey, that bit was funny or love that bit or Jenny, you crack me up or anything like that. That's always it's like a little pat on the back, and I think that keeps you know, our spirits are up.
Anyway. This is usually the best four hours of my day. But you know it's just nicely. I mean even just you writing in Caitlyn and saying thanks for all the work that you put in the Morning Show. I really we really appreciate that. That really means a lot. So thank you for being supportive the Morning Show. Dave and Crewe quick question, maybe some potential to be a contributing writer. By the way, I don't have the
stickers ready yet, so the contributing writer offer is not good yet. Once I get those stickers in, will you remind me to get them because I've been working on them, but I got to remember to get them. It's going to be a few weeks. Pick them up, order them. I got to order them and they're not We got to design them, and we took a crack at designing them the other night. But Susan and I are
not graphic artists. But I will say I won't be able to go backlog everybody who writes in now, so the offer does not stand yet, but in another couple of weeks when we get stickers in, then they will jets quick question, maybe some potential to be a contributing writer. One of my friends is running the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday and I want to go support her. Dave, I know you mentioned you'll be running the ten miler,
so just curious on what is the best execution to support my friend. Do I go before the race and wish her well, or should I be there at the end of cheer her on or camp out somewhere along the route. Just wondering what's the best way to show support to athletes like yourself and Jenny. Any opinions are welcome. Much thanks, staff writer Aaron. I love that you took the liberty to sign it. Staff writer Aaron, my suggestion
is part way along the route. I would say probably maybe a little bit toward the end of the route, park your car on Summit because the run up Summit is kind of grueling. It's the last five ish three ish miles of the run. You're getting tired, you don't have a lot of gas left in the tank, and if they see you and they say, hey, you know what, tell her in advance or him in advance, say
I'm going to be at the corner of summit and whatever. And you can track people if you know their number, you can track where they are on like an app or on their website. I believe you're right. I can't forgot about that. Yeah, and so that would be really cool. Don't miss them because you don't want to be they're a little bit too late and they've already run by. But I would look forward to that if I was
running by and you had like a cow bell. Cow bells are big in marathons and ten mile ers, and maybe you sign that says go you know whatever their name is, But that would help a lot in the last few miles when you're running on empty. I'm not entirely sure. Did they say they're doing the marathon or the ten miles looks like the marathon? Yeah, okay, Then I would honestly suggest that you try to hit him at two different spots throughout, because I totally do that. Yeah. When I did
my half marathon, I'm not gonna lie. I was like kind of sad with my family because my sister and dad didn't get there until the finish line, and I'm so happy that they even came to support me. But my mom, she tried her best and she just couldn't get to Like she tried to get me in the first like five miles, and she just couldn't get to the spot where I was, So I didn't see her till mile like seven or eight, and I was so excited to see her, But that
was the only time I saw her throughout the race. And I did do it in Wisconsin, so most of my friends are in the Twin Cities, so nobody came, like friends wise, to go support me at that one. But I just think it is like one of the greatest things to do to support someone at a race like that when you've trained and you've worked really hard. It like brought tears in my eyes just going to see Andrew's brother
running last year. I was like so proud of him. So I would say, maybe if you can hit two different times the finish line at the Twin Cities Marathon and ten miler is a cluster five it is, yet you're not going to be able to find them, like until they're basically out of this big corral. Of people, So I would focus on trying to see them along the race more so than at the beginning or the end. That
is so true, because at the end it is a cluster. Fuck, Jenny, You're right, there's a big fenced in corral that people can't get into, and as they run over the finish line, you go over here. You get a blanket if you need one, like one of those little lovefle metal aluminum looking things. Right, yeah, I never get one. I don't. I'm already warm, I don't, I don't need one. I get my metal. Then you can go get a banana or granola or
an orange or whatever, and then you walk out of the corral. But I would say when they most need you is on the route itself, So that's what I would suggest. Okay, this is my second time emailing, the first time being for the Minnesota Goodbye. We also met at the fair when I was fifteen. I've been listening since middle school. Let me see what he's writing about here, because he says it, I don't expect it
to be Okay, I know what it is. He's basically I'm going to read this off the air and then maybe edit a little bit because it's very long, and he admits that it's very long, but he is basically saying, you know, it's interesting, how Dave, when you go to the doctor with a bump or a cough or a like a little spot on your skin, you think it's going to be cancer and you're going to die.
He says, I'm the exact same way. I had a feeling in my throat for years, assumed it was flim and more or less shrugged it off. Graduated college a year and a half ago because I no longer had classes as freshover, I started doing a bunch of research but only made it worse. Saw a general physician who confirmed my suspicion that it was either post nasal drip or acid reflects and sent me on our way. And basically they go on to it looks like I'm trying to get to the point here because I
don't want to. Basically says, I hope to put your mind at ease and also provide another possibility for what you could be going on. So I decided I had to email because I was very comforting no one that I'm not the only one who thinks the way I do. Hang in there, and please accept my well wishes for a speedy recovery. Thanks for all you do to keep me entertained every day and truly feeling like my friends after so many
years listening Listeners since twenty eleven, Dart Liquor since twenty twenty two. That is from Kevin. Kevin, I'm gonna go back and read your entire email to myself because I don't know that you necessarily expected me to read it on the Minnesota Goodbye. But it's interesting that there are people like me and Kevin who when you get a bump or when you get a little knot, you go, oh my god, I'm gonna die of cancer next one. Oh is that going to be for now? That's actually going to be it for
now, So we'll get to more emails. Thank you. We actually went a little bit long. It flies by on the Minnesota Goodbye. Please send those emails and become an official staff writer to Ryan Show at KDWB dot com
