All right, here we go with the Minnesota goodbye, and we're gonna have a bunch of emails, so hey, let's get started. The first thing, I find this one interesting because it is all about Taylor Swift and that is what everybody's on their mind, and so I hesitated, what is it going to read this one or not? But I thought, you know, it's interesting because the station posted, you know, we're all tady able to be this weekend. I think it's really super cool. I'm not a big
swifty. I respect Taylor Swift, but it's kind of like, you know, if they had like a I don't know, Miley Cyrus weekend, some people would be really into it and some people would be like, yeah, not really into it. And it's like if they had a pizza weekend, there would be a few people who would say, you know, I don't like pizza. I like taco. So you know, we get we can't please everybody, but this is somebody who they just want to say it.
They said, don't even say my name. I don't need the swifty army attacking me. So here we go. Sorry, Fallon, I know you're a big swifty, but am I the only one that can't wait for this week and to be over. I feel like I'm hearing about the Taylor Swift concert everywhere and it just seems so overblown to me. People are acting like
we've never held a concert in downtown Minneapolis before. I like some of her recent music, but I am just sick of her brand and the overkill on the clues and everything in the easter eggs, etc. That she does all the time. Most people see her as America's sweetheart, but I think everything seems so calculated with her that she's more of a business entity now than a real person. Sorry for the long ranting email, but I just had to
vent in You guys seem like the best place for that. Do you have anything anyone like this where you just get sick of hearing about them all the time? Nothing comes to mind, necessarily maybe certain movies, but this is I mean, I've said this before several times. This is the biggest concert event in my lifetime yea, and probably ever, because the biggest concert event before this in Minnesota had to been them when the Beatles came. None of
us remember that. I totally under Dan you be like there. We've had other texts that are like, I am so ready for Taylor So to be over because they're sick of hearing about it. So I'm not surprised. I'm not offended. I know, I don't get when people hate her because that always is like weird to me because I just think she has palatable music. So I'm like, if you know, if you're indifferent, I get it, but I don't get hating her. But I also get not being into
it. So no, I mean, I get it, and I'm sure a lot of people will be ready, but yeah, there's just for it to be over. There's Dave's right, there's never been anything like this in my like, and we both work in radio, so like we've seen the
hype for any possible concert pretty much ever. You know, yeah, absolutely, m I there's somebody brought up and I'm looking for the email right now, and I think here it is, right and here they say hello morning show crew with all the tad wb buzz I had some nosy besign the scenes questions to ask you about your work, perks, and how concert tickets work in general for Radio Number one, says Hannah, How does the company get
the tickets? Does a lowly intern have to sit through Ticketmaster and buy event tickets or less ridiculously, I'm sure you're given a certain allowtment for shows. Yeah, that's exactly what it is. We get them from usually the record company and if there's another way that I don't know, but basically the record label. It's all above board because we can't. You know, they give
us tickets to give away to promote the show. So we play Taylor Swift's music, the record company says, thank you, here are some tickets to give away on your show. Now there might be some other ways, and maybe it's through the power of iHeartRadio, but we have a great relationship with Taylor Swift because iHeartRadio is the biggest radio company in the world that I know of, and we've worked a lot with her back even when she wasn't the
phenomenon that she is, and so they appreciate that. So I think that's how we get them. I don't think so, but I think like personal tickets, like for our boss, he gets them through the record label. Typically because I worked in promotions for you, you get them through the promoter.
And what you do as a radio station is like the promotions director at the radio station creates a proposal, like the promoter will email the promotions dirrector and say, you know, many months in advance, like when they're before the on sale even happened, they're coming. The promotion instructor creates a proposal. And what the proposal is is you request a certain number of tickets and then you write out what they're going to get in return, the number of
mentions, the number of giveaways. How you So it's a promotion for concert sales basically, yeah, and then you submit it and they may completely agree to all of that, or they may go back and forth a little bit. But I'm going to guess that's kind of how it happened for Taylor as well. I had no idea. I really thought it was like, you know, whatever her record label is is like, oh, here you go, here are some tickets. So and I have ano promotions here at KATWB,
So maybe it is different, just but in Indiana. So like I'd get an email from Susan with Live Nation, and that's who I would work with. Okay, gotcha. Next question from the same listener, do you personally have access to any show tickets or for large scale evench like Taylor Swift, would you have to buy your own? We It depends if it's an artist that we play. For example, let's say Selena Gomez was coming to
town just randomly chose somebody and I really wanted to go. I could go in and I could say, hey, can I get some Selena Gomez tickets? And depending on the availability, I mean usually the bigger the act, it's like, uh maybe. And but for Taylor Swift, no we don't. We would not get any because they're way too valuable. Yeah they yeah, I think I paid for my Taylor Swift, but typically I don't know. The other concert I went to was John Maren had to pay for those
tickets too, but we don't play John Mayer, so it wasn't. But the boss will ask sometimes yeah, I mean usually yes, but like for instance, I really hard to get into. It was Olivia Rodrigo that's selled out within seconds. I asked her boss. He's like, uh, probably not. And then I think, like a day or two before, he found an extra pair somehow, I don't know how he got I'm at it.
Ask he goes I found an extra pair, and I was like, oh, okay, yeah, I mean, if there's something like jingle Ball, then it's our show or Star Party, it's our show, so we can almost get as many as we want within reason. I think at one time I asked for like fifteen pair for jingle Ball tickets or something like that, and I got them because everybody that I know wanted to go to that jingle Ball. So all right, Being a next question, same listener,
being that I've never won tickets from the radio. Are seats desirable or more in the nosebleeds? I think that it can be. They're almost never great seats, unless we say their front row, second row, third row. They're usually good seats. But sometimes I've never had anybody call after a show that they won tickets for on Katie being said those seats were shit. But I'm sure it happens once in a while, but from what I know,
it is free. Lastly, have you ever seen a show with such demand in hype like Taylor Swift maybe Prints back in the day or Madonna no even with Prince back in the day, or Madonna. No. The last one that I remember being hyped so much was the Michael Jackson Jackson's Victory Tour. Now this was a long time ago, Michael Jackson had just did the Thriller
album and so they people wanted a concert, and there they were. They did a tour and I remember tickets were thirty five dollars a piece, which people couldn't believe that anybody would charge thirty five dollars, and you had to buy a block of four. And it was not just Michael Jackson, it was his brothers and maybe LaToya and maybe Janet, I don't remember, but it was because Michael Jackson was so big after Thriller, and it was it
was huge, but not even on this level. It was huge in a different way because nobody had ever done a big concert tour like that before. Sorry for asking all the questions. I get so interested with huge events and how behind the scenes works for media people. I hope I rented a Fallon at t Swift on Saturday. Much love for my on demand friend group Hannah. Thank you Hannah. I'm gonna skip past this one and come back to
it, but this is kind of funny. My husband and I just pulled into the Woodberry Target only to be greeted by the most beautiful violin music. We see two women playing, and my husband is like, Wow, they're really good, and I said, no, it's a scam. I heard about it from David Fallon, so so thankful I knew better and didn't fall for it. And that is from Sarah. Thank you, Sarah. I'm
glad. I hope more people spread the word about that because it's just it's just so annoying that it's just such a scam and that people in their the you know, the goodness of their heart to give money for it to them. This is a good one. I like it a lot. It says, I love your show in the Minnesota. Goodbye. I'm binge listening to the podcast. I heard the show where you asked listeners what they came back from. Yeah, so I want to share my story. You can use
my name on the show. It's from Tricia. I came back from losing my mom to pancreatic cancer her. I was very close to my mom and she was my best friend. So I was devastated when she was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in twenty seventeen. She passed away just thirteen days after her diagnosis. Thirteen days, not even two weeks, and I was devastated.
I really didn't think I would get through it. I had eleven days left in the last courses of my doctorate program before moving on to the comprehensive exam and the dissertation. It was difficult for me, but I could hear my mom telling me, you gotta finish. I finished my last term and passed my comprehensive exam about three months after her passing. I was very motivated to complete the dissertation after all I had been through. I became doctor Tricia
in twenty nineteen. After completing my dissertation, I dedicated it to her, as I knew she would have been so proud. Although grief never ends, Oh my god, I'm gonna tear up, Tricia. I am happy that I listened to my mom and finished my degree. Doctor Tricia. That is I mean, I don't even know what kind of doctor you are. Could be a doctor of sociology or a doctor of engineering, but I'm going to guess probably a medical doctor, because I think she would have probably said different
otherwise. But that is so amazing, and I'm so sorry. I mean, it's been a long time since your mom passed, but yeah, it's just I think it's it's a different kind of grief. My mom and dad both lived a long time. They didn't die young or suddenly, but it bet it does. It stays with you and it just kind of like evolves into something a little bit different over the years. And let's see, Dave, you mentioned that you were waiting for your bird watching device because of it
being back ordered. I got my bird buddy. I ordered it in January or so. It came to mail the other day, and then I was texting Foulon last night about where to hang it on my house because she's gotten a similar one. Well, my vehicle needs new tranny and it's on back order. I've been waiting since Memorial Day and they say it might take a few months months. The only good thing they gave me a free loaner, and my vehicle is still covered under warrantine that is from Chow Chow. Yep,
there's a lot of stuff on back order. I think that's just something that we are all dealing with. Holly says, I love the show so much. You make my morning's bearable. Thank you. I appreciate that one. Dave. A while ago, you were holding a picture of Evelyn and I think she might have been sick and that was the one. I think she was coughing and she and she just laid on me and just kind of like snuggled and passed out. And she's like eight months old, and it
was very sweet. I took a screenshot of this picture and I sent it to my sister, saying, why can't our dad be like this? And she immediately agreed. Our dad was an amazing dad when we were growing up, coach sports, field trips, etc. But he seems less than interested in the grandkids, and it makes us so sad. We always thought he'd be just as an amazing grandpa as he'd been a dad, and he's just not. I just wanted to tell you that all of your grand kids are
so lucky to have you. I love that you went on the field trip with your grandson and that you and Susan take the kids from sleepovers. Our parents would never do that. If you're ever looking for some grandsons that live close, my sister and I have six between the two of us. Kind of joking, kind of serious. I just thought I would let you know that we think you're amazing. I hope you have a wonderful day and fallon have an amazing time at the concert. Thank you. I don't understand it.
I mean, it's like dads that don't pay attention to their kids. I don't understand it. You're missing out on such a gift. And at the distance, the challenge of the distance with the best kids, they do make it hard, they do because I don't get to see them that often and we're not really that close. But there was something when I saw them that it was like we just saw each other yesterday. You know. They weren't like shy around me, and they know what grandpa is and I'm the
only grandpa they have sold their kids are. I wonder if he's the rush grandpa, that will be more like if there are a lot of you know, under seven, Like, will he be a lot better when they're a little bit older because he's better interacting with that age, you know what I mean? It could be. Yeah, you are just not baby people like even me, I'm like a little bit like huh, But I guess I hope that I'm not like that. If Olive and Dillon have kids, yeah,
well yeah you never I guess, you know, never know. All right, let's chat mom guilt when sending kids to daycare. If you have the day off to work, listen to this one. I got two kids five months and three years on July third and fourth. That is a Monday and Tuesday next week. I am off work, well not next week, but you have the idea. I'm off work, but I'd like to spend time with my husband on July third and still send the kids to daycare?
Are we horrible for not doing family things on that day? We are already paying for daycare even if we don't send them. Mom guilt is so real. Do dad's ever feel like that? Thanks, besties, I'm gonna say, go ahead and do it and don't feel guilty. They won't know. They're not gonna understand. They're three and five months. If you want to go spend time with your partner, then obviously you need that time. And I think if you've got a chance to take a break from your kids,
I say go ahead and do it. Yeah, one hundred percent. And the mom guilt is real. I can't speak on dad guilt, but I you do you feel guilty, You feel like and especially if you aren't doing anything, like if you stayed at home and lay it on your couch and just watch TV. Like you used to be able to do. You feel so guilty, like you should be at least cleaning the house. And I've had Jake before and be like, fallon, no, you have one day
off without olive. Stop feeling like you clean the house, like just actually lay there like a lazy slug and relax. And I'm like, okay, but it's uh, I think, yeah, I think do it and you'll be happy. Yeah. I wouldn't even worry that much about it. You know, they're kids, they're little. I would say, they're not going to know. They'll be fine. This is just kind of a different one. Hey, besties, I have a friend who has a terminal genetic illness.
She has about ten or so years left to live. She is truly living her life to the fullest, traveling a ton and planning to hopefully have a baby with her spouse. It got me thinking, if you had ten years left to live, what would you do differently? Thanks always love listening to you wall from Jamie. I would stop working, for sure, and then I would do all the things that you know that I think that I've wanted to do. I would take long motorcycle rides. I'd buy an RV.
I'd go, you know, camping. I would go to all the national parks. I would I'm not a traveler necessarily, but I do enjoy traveling RV camping, So I'd be at every KOA in town or everyr K away in the country and doing that whole thing. And I think that's what I would do. And then I would spend as much time as I could with Alison, Carson, Beth Chase and family. Yeah. I mean that's
pretty dead on with me, aside from the camping bugs. No, I mean I feel like I feel that would be you know, the weird thing about that what Jake do, because we couldn't just neither of us couldn't just not work for ten years. We wouldn't have money. Yeah, So then it's like, but I wouldn't want to work if I only had ten years. But luckily, Jake, I think can work remotely, so maybe we could still do things and work remotely. And I don't know. I admire
your friend though, I mean good for her. I'm glad that she's got a supportive partner, and it sounds like she's still in a condition healthy enough to have children. And you know, the first thing that my mind went to was if she has a child, the child won't be able to see mom, you know, like grow all the way up. You know what
I'm saying. Yeah, And that kind of struck me as sad. But if that is going to be rewarding to her to give another human life, even if she's only going to be here for a short time, I think that is still a great gift to give that other human life. I'm going to give you one more. It's a little bit long, but it's somebody who says, call me Stacy. I'm writing to feel better about my decision, and I want to get your thoughts. I quit my teaching job and
got a new job. Very excited we do something new. Mental health was a problem. I dreaded going to work. I didn't want to be happy. Then I came home to my own kids and I had no energy left to my kids. It just felt wrong because my kids need to be my priority. Here's the hard part. The new job is actually a paycut, and I'm very stressed out about childcare. My husband and I are planners. We had our whole lives mapped out. I was continuing my education, so
I was making a pretty good salary as a teacher for being thirty. My husband makes good money, so I was able to pull at least of my paycheck into our savings at least half of my paycheck in our savings. Not to mention, I took care of the pickup and drop offs, and I'm always the one that can stay home at the kids are sick, etc. I'm scared. The new job has perks, great retirement contributions, and I won't have to pay for any premiums for my whole family's healthcare. It is
almost fully remote too. The hours are trickier for picking up my kids from daycare in school. I'm not sure how much time I'll really be able to take off if my kids get sick, and I'm very worried about my income effect in our future plans. My husband is supportive, but I can sense he is worried about the income as well. Uugh make me feel like I'm making an okay decision. Now. I'm really glad she put this part in, because this part, I believe is the answer for reference. Together,
my husband and I make about one hundred seventy thousand dollars a year. It will go to about one hundred fifty thousand dollars a year before taxes. Two thoughts. Obviously, you had planned out your financial future with an income of one hundred seventy thousand dollars a year, you'd plan that. So a deficit of twenty thousand dollars a year when you're a careful planner is a big dent. Twenty thousand dollars a year before taxes is that's going to make a big
dent. However, I want you to put it in perspective. One hundred fifty thousand dollars a year between the two between the two of you is a great income. It is a great income. There are people who wore listen to the show right now going between me and my partner, we make ninety yea and we're doing okay. I'm not going to name anybody in my family, but I know that most people in my family make way less than that
as a part of a couple, and they are around your age. So I would say, put it in perspective, one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year is a really good salary. I would also say, you're thirty, so it's not like you have to stay at this job forever. It's not like there is no chance. I guess, I don't know. Does this chance have opportunity for growth where you could get promotions and raises? Yeah? If not, then maybe that's somewhere you go just for now for your
mental health, until you find something that is higher paying. Again, I mean, you don't have to stay at this job for the rest of your life, so exactly. Yeah, I think that you're making the right decision for your mental health. You'll make better, not better, additional good decisions moving forward to maybe get you, guys back where you were before. It's always Dave. I think Dave said this. I think everyone says it's easier to get a job when you have a job. So if you have that
job, you'll find another job. Yeah, And I think I think it'll be fine. I think that if you are planners, you will be able to I will say this, twenty thousand dollars a year when you're a superplanner is a big amount. But also if you're such a superplanner, you'll be able to plan around that. I know two adult women in their forties and fifties right now who are so financially strapped they give plasma as often as they can because they need to give plasma. And they're doing okay. You know
that they're a little bit paycheck to paycheck, but they're doing okay. All right. That is it. I'm not saying go donate plasma, but have your husband do it. All right. That's it for the Minnesota goodbye. Thanks for the emails, love your thoughts, send those two Ryan Show at KDWB dot com.
