Falen and Jenny read an email about the SYSTEM!

Transcript

It's the Minnesota Goodbye the Fallon and Jenny version today. Dave's on vacation. He'll be back on Monday and I'll be gone, so you know it's a block flop blop. Yeah, this one. I'm not going to read the full one, not because it's too long, but because it's like recommendations for me to Olympic National Park. That's where I'm going on Saturday. But I did want to read this because I thought it was nice. Hello Jenny in the morning Zoo or Fallon in the Funny Farm question mark right, and the

Dopeds. That zinger is hilarious in my head because I'm still rolling my eyes at that one. Lady, we all know who I'm referring to. That's you have. Jenny hasn't been a part of the podcast, okay. So it's like an email about someone annoyed with dreg talking about smoking weeds so openly. Okay, she says, you can say my name, So let's give you a little shout out here, Katie. This might get long because I'm

excited, but I understand if you need to condense for sanity reasons. I grew up in the Twin Cities. I currently live in Olympia, Washington. When I heard Fallon was going to visit Olympic National Park, I squeaked with excitement. Dude, it's magical. The trees are humongous, and there's so much natural beauty here. I've been living here for a couple of years and it's one of the best things I've ever done for my mental health. So

far, I've noticed a few things about being here. So she goes on to talk about the driving, the weather, the food differences in National Park things, and she sent some photos and I am just so thankful. So Katie, I appreciate it. She said, I'm down for some iced coffee if you have time. I don't know if I'll have time. I'm going to be very you know, in with the full family, so we'll see

how that goes. Yeah, Fallon and I when we take trips, we don't do like specific itineraries, but we definitely have an itinerary of the things we want to do. And then there's built in Instagram scrolling time in my opinion or TikTok scrolling time like the time where you decompress from the activities and as usually at the end of the day because in state parks. I have found that it's pretty much rarely ever there's Yeah, so this is what I have for my itinerary. Yeah, what do you got? Okay, there

are like so Olympic National Park is weird. You have to like kind of go through everything to get to it and then retrace your steps to go back home. Yep, it's a very weird park. So um day one, I like one day family park Day one. I picked things that are easy for full families, kids and older fellas and ladies. Yep. So I have Hurricane Hill, which is three point two miles okay, sold Duck Falls, Mary Mayor Falls, and possibly Madison Falls. Those are all near us.

The farthest away from a stay, I have the rainforest, a hole like it's called hole in the Walletic Beach area, and then Ruby Beach. I have extra days to visit Cape Flattery. So Cape Flattery is the farthest west point of the country. So when you're going to all of these, are you like going to be retracking some of these things you're already seen? Like when you're going to that far one, are you like going the same

way you've already gone to see a few times? Yes, okay. And then there's one other one that I want to do, and that's the big crazy one for me. It's like a moderate seven and a half mile and it's to a place called Lena Lakes, and that one's not as popular, and that one I won't be retracing any steps to get too. We'll see

if we make it to that one. I hope so, because it's like one of the first tiktoks I saw where you can tell they overly did the you know, saturation and contrast on the video to make it look even more green and magical. But it's very pretty. So anyway, Katie, I have your email saved, and I am so thankful you sent that to me,

so thank you. I gotta say that one thing I aspire to do is like if I travel, I try my absolute best to not filter nature pictures because I think, like, yeah, you love following these people on Instagram that have these beautiful videos and reels and they're so beautiful and everything, but it's like so much stuff is filtered and that's not a reality, and like it's usually so beautiful in person no matter what, and so I get like, straight, you can never capture in a video like how beautiful it

is in person? But I agree. It's like you get there and I'm like, wow, did I just feel like a really overcast, crappy day? And it's like, no, it's because they took this downloaded it on a computer. And I'm like the type of person that I'll show Andrew something. He's like, that's edited, Jenny, And I'm like, what, like it like breaks my heart out the time? I was like, what do you mean? Fantasy? All right? This next one says please don't say my name. It's a long email, and that is fine. I'm

okay with that. I can read it for you. The last couple of days on the podcast, there have been write ins about weed and finances that vaguely loop around politics. I'm all about finance, so I'm not here to talk drugs or take sides as much as i am to throw out some historical statistics in general logistics. Again, again, it's a lot, but it's a complicated topic. Why not let's dive into it. Yeah, let's hear it. Regardless of the salary, people are needed for every type of job

to keep this country running. Someone has to pick up garbage, deliver your mail, take your vitals at the hospital, or teach your children. Some jobs are careers out of necessity, and there are people who grew up not being pressured to go to college or even have the funds, and don't make a fuss with the life they've been given. I'd like to think most people

take up a career because they're passionate about it. Financial stability is great, but it's a luxury, and you can't fault people for accepting mountains of debt for poor pay when the job they are passionate about needs a degree. Regardless, it's not the teacher's fault they get paid shit, nor is it their fault that they had to pay one hundred thousand dollars for a degree. They needed a degree to teach and a master's if they want to make more money.

The caveat to all this is having to pay the loans back and to an institution with no competition, so they can pay pretty so they can pretty much charge you whatever they want. Sure, you could choose a less expensive college, or pick a different career, or have the opportunity for scholarships. But why blame the student when the real issue is the system and the question people should be asking is why does the system allow this to happen? Let

me explain in regards to millennials parents. Sure they were told to go to college, but their college was much cheaper even when you oculate inflation. According to Forbes, the average annual cost in nineteen eighty was ten thousand dollars in today's money. They could get a summer job and pay for an entire year of school. A wedding in nineteen eighty cost ten thousand dollars in today's money.

Specifically, for Minneapolis, the average price of a home in nineteen eighty was sixty four thousand, seven hundred dollars or two hundred and fifty three thousand dollars in today's Sorry I had an email come in one overtop of this, Okay, two hundred and fifty three thousand in today's money for a house, the median household income was twenty three thousand or eighty five thousand today. The

meeting household income in Minneapolis in twenty twenty three is seventy thousand. So not only have prices increased and exponential and at exponential rates, but the income in the last forty years has stayed the same and the Federal Reserve would have people believe the wage hikes are part of the reason for inflation to get higher in the first place. We are playing a game most aren't even aware of, in which we will never catch up to and that is sickening to more paragraphs

just you know. Yeah, this isn't about left or right because quite frankly, they're all corrupt and we all know it. Those right in the country are being legally bribed by corporate companies to either pass certain bills or not aka lobbying, and some of the same people that believed in trickle down economics in the eighties are still in office. I am so sick of people picking fights over trivial issues when the economy is collapsing from out of control government spending and

corporate bailouts. Social Security will not exist when I'm sixty five because they never intended it to last that long. Wealth in the world is now out of balance, and not because those people worked harder. Wealth isn't everything, but it becomes a lot more important when the leaders of the world are fucking you over. It's not about giving people money that didn't earn it. It's about giving people enough money so they can simply live and realizing that if those standards

aren't already in place, then there's a problem. So don't blame the teacher for wanting to be a teacher. Blame the institution that they decided they weren't worth a livable wage or an affordable healthcare. Clop clop, clop, clop clap. There's one more paragraph. I am aware I left out a lot of what ifs, like race disparity, race disparity, recessions, mental health, and other worldly problems of the last forty years. But if I included them all, this would be a thesis, not an email, and my

point would remain the same. We're not always in agreement with each other, but we're all being fucked over in the same way. It's not an overnight fix, and I certainly don't have the answer, but I know bitching at each other for their personal choices is not going to change anything. They're doing the best they can, same as you. So show some compassion, some grace, and except that not everyone has the same story as you. In the end, what matters is what helps everyone in some form or the other,

not just to select few. It's not socialism it's just kindness. I'd be really surprised if you read this, so thank you, I suppose if you do. I think that that was very well written. Yep. And it is always interesting to find the actual correlation between the price of tuition back in the day into what it would be today and then like the cost of

how and stuff like that. That's always very interesting because I think sometimes people don't fully understand the inflation aspect of it, and so like they think, like, you know, someone making thirty thousand dollars in nineteen eighty, like that was good money. So then they think, oh, well, you're making how much I made in nineteen eighty What do you mean you don't make

good money. That's how much I made when I was like twenty three years old, And like that's not always brought into the fact that thirty thousand doesn't get you very far nowadays. You know, that argument is very frustrating. And I think we've had these discussions before on the podcast on like what like like deserving quote unquote deserving a livable wage and whether you deserve it or not. And I've said, if you work full time, I do believe you

do because in my point has always been kind of what she said. We need people who are doing this, that and this and that. Maybe you don't want to do it, but we need someone to do it right. So if everyone said I'm not doing that because blah blah blah. So anyway, I think I thought it was a really well written email, and I really appreciate you writing and I'm glad we got to read it, so thank

you. We don't have a ton of emails today. Those are the two main ones I got, so feel free to email Ryan Show at KDWB dot com. And this is going to be the shortest podcast maybe unless you had anything else you wanted to add today. Jenny, No, but if anyone I'm thinking about doing one thing and I don't know, like listen, I don't have a good eye for design, like interior design, I should say

specifically. And so I've been in the middle of painting our half story, which is where our main bedroom is, and I am struggling because I painted it white because I just could not grasp what was going to look good in there, because it is a decently the large room and I couldn't pick just one color. And if I painted it one color and I hated it right

after, I would be so devastated. So I'm thinking about doing like some color blocking on walls, or like putting a mirror up and kind of just like painting that specific area around the mirror to kind of give it some pop and stuff. And so I'm wondering, like I kind of want to do the thing on TikTok where I'm like, all right, somebody helped me yea and post like a video on my room and then have like hopefully someone pick

it up where they have that design. But if you happen like this kind of a like I'm asking for help right now, if you happen to know anything about interior design, you want to reach out to me, holler at your girl. I'm not made of money, so I don't know that I'm gonna be paying anyone a ton of money to help me, but I'd appreciate any help or any suggestions someone might have. I think that's great. I mean, there may be someone who's just starting out and they need like to

build a portfolio, yeah, portfolio or something. All right, that's it. Have a great day. Thanks for listening to the Minnesota Go bye,
