We're going to start off the podcast with something a little bit different. So my wife this I don't want to really talk about this on the radio, but Susan, about five or six years or so ago, went in for a gallbladder operation. So her belly really hurt all day long, all day long. She finally drove herself to the two twelve Medical Center and she called and she said, they got to take my gallbladder out. So they took her in an ambulance from the from two twelve down to Waconia to do the

operation. The next day, they do the gallbladder operation, and I'm on the couch, I'm taking a nap and I get a phone call from the doctor and I said, how did it go? And she's like, well, it went good, but she said, we found something that doesn't look good. There's a mass in her belly and it doesn't look good. And I said, could it be cancer? And she's like, well, that's kind of what we're thinking. And I'm like, oh my gosh. So it was probably about the size of a shoe, if I remember, like

real big, but a smallest shoe. So one of the doctors got the woman who did the gallbladder surgery, and an on collogist came in and they go, yeah, it looks like it could be cancer. You know, we'll get it tested and in a week we'll find out what the results are. So we get the results and a week later. It took a week and we're on pins and needles, thinking, oh my god, she could die. That was the story. Remember when she looked at me and she said I don't want to die. Yeah, And so I called my friend

Brentley, and I love telling the story. Susan has eyes that when she gets tired, they look different ways. And so Brentley's been my friend off and on for a long long time. So I called Brentley, very upset, needed to talk to somebody, And I said, Brentley, she looked at me and she said, I don't want to die. And Brentley said,

well, how could you tell where she was looking? Which was the perfect laugh that I needed at that moment because it was such a tension breaker, and I was like halfway crying, and that motherfucker made me laugh by saying that. So and then anyway, she it was a weird sort of cancer that is benign but very serious, and they took it out and I was on pins and needles. They took it out and blah blah blah. So she has to go back in for an MRI or scan or something every

year. So today is the day she goes in for that. Everything's been fine and this is the last one that if she doesn't have anything, then then she's, you know, got a clean bill of health. Good. So but they do the test day and it takes a week to get the results back, so she won't have her results until next Friday. Next Friday, I'm going to be in Colorado. Oh And I said, should I stay here? And she's like no, I said, what if the results are not good? And she's like, well, then we'll deal with that,

but don't miss your trip to Colorado. So that's kind of what we're dealing with, you know what. I And every time we do it, everything turns out fine, but of course you still get nervous. You know, it's been five or six years. Yes, I can imagine. I mean any kind of appointment where you know there might be like the tiniest negative outcome is scary. Like your health is just you literally like don't think about

your health until something could be going wrong with it. You know, you just go through your daily life and then when something comes up all of a sudden, it like consumes you. And we've learned that this year with my little sister and her stroke. Yeah. Right, still dealing with tons of like after effect things with that. Because with your little sister and her stroke, I mean, she was like doing she was running and active and yeah, doing her thing, and she's like thirty is it's only twenty eight.

Oh, she's twenty eight, okay, and you don't think about health and then all of a sudden she had a stroke, yeah, which is like, you don't even think about having a stroke when you're twenty eight. You don't worry about anything with your health most of the time when you're twenty eight years old. Right, how is she doing now? She's doing good. She did just try to get this sten put in because she has this blood blockage in her neck from some artery damage. Yeah, and they weren't able

to do that, so she still has to remain on blood thinners. And it's just it's the weirdest thing that you don't realize could happen. But you know, she barely bumps her hip on the side of a door or something, and she's got to bruise the size, like twice the size. Yeah, or she this is a weird example, picks a z it and it bleeds and it starts just bleeding and bleeding and it won't stop. It will coagulated tooth thin. Yeah. So unfortunately they could not get the stent in.

It was too It just wasn't safe enough. I'll try it, let me try it. I don't think that that's how we're going to go back to. I am a red car, I'm Red Cross trained, pretty sure I can do this. Yeah, there's it reminds me of an interesting movie scene. I'm kind of all over the place today because we don't have a lot of emails, to be honest with you, so Jenny and I got

to come up with her own content. There's a movie with Russell Crowe called Master and Commander, and it was an overlooked movie from twenty years ago,

and it's so oh good. It's kind of made a resurgence and if you're looking for a movie, it's it's such a I'll be honest with you, it's a little bit more of a dude movie because it's all these dudes on a ship back in the seventeen hundreds and they're warring with another ship off the coast of South America whatever, and Russell Crowe is one of the commanders. So you talk about self surgery or amateur surgery. The doctor on the ship is one of the heroes of the movie. You get shot in a battle,

but he doesn't die. He's got the bullet lodged in his belly and he's got to get it out or the bullet in his belly will kill him. Ok. So the assistant doctor, who is kind of a buffoon, is like, i'll do it. I'll take it out, and he's looking at books and he's like trying to thumb through pages to try to figure it out. And the Doctor's like, if I have this guy do the surgery,

he's gonna kill me. So the doctor operated on himself. He not a movie, but still yeah, but I think that's actually happened before in history somewhere. But he has somebody hold a mirror up, cuts into his belly and removes the bullet and he lives. Master and Commander Actually a really good movie that reminds me of the time that I pierced my own belly button myself. Tell me about that. So we got a what was called the

cow needle from Fleet Farm, so it was a hollowed out needle. Yeah, okay, And I had already pierced it once and it got like all messed up, so I let it close and I was like, I still want it pierced. So I got it pierced again, and my friend who was supposed to be doing at that time, got weirded out halfway through. So I just stood up because I was like laying on the ground and she's like doing it. I just stood up, looked in a mirror and just

did it. You're a badass, Jenny, Seriously. Next week on the show, Jenny's going to take out her own gallbladder and that'll be really dope. Now, I'll hold the mirror, Drake will get it all on Instagram Live, and you take out your own gall bladder. It'll be a good bit. All right. Let's move on some emails. We do have some here. It's a little bit slow for emails. So if you have something you want to talk about and you're going I want an email on the show,

then please send it into Ryan Show. At Katie listen to the show yesterday had to write in about getting a puppy for Christmas. There was a sister who called in and said, my sister is making a dumb mistake. She wants to get my mom a puppy for Christmas, and I don't want her to. So we had a big debate about that, and so many people texted it about that. One not sure if you want to read this on the show to help out Stephanie and Marissa, this happened to my family.

I work in an animal shelter and I always sent my mom puppy picks. My mom and dad already had two dogs, both four years all the time, but my mom wanted a puppy so bad, so she schemed with me to surprise my dad with a puppy for Christmas. Let's just say it went about as bad as it could. We surprised my dad with a puppy and he stared blankly at it and said is that yours? And I said

no, it's your new puppy, and he just walked away. Then we introduced the new puppy to the other dogs, who proceeded a growl and snap at it. It was the most tense and awkward Christmas. Ever, and to top it off, the puppy got sick the next day. Wow, well that is horrible. I'm sorry that that turned out. That's terrible. Fast forward eight years later, and that puppy is my dad's absolute best friend and gets along great with the other dogs. So I guess it all worked

out in the inn. I say, get your mom that puppy if you're ready for a potentially awkward holiday. Also, please adopt. So many puppies need homes, and shelters have return policies. If it ends up not being a good fit, you will get your money back. Your mom can pick up the dog. She pick the dog she wants, and the puppy will get a new home. Better yet, just get her a gift card to

a shelter and go pick out a puppy with her. You could wrap the gift card and a caller and dog toys and it'll be just a special good

luck Jessica. That's a great story. It is a great story. Someone had called in on the show yesterday and said that a dog picks you like so he was saying it's not a good idea because like the dog should pick the mom, and I brought that up to Andrew and I was telling him about the segment last night, and he when he got Mickey, the dog that we used to have, he saw her on the Animal Humane Society website. It was like, oh my gosh, she's so cute. I want

her. But he said that that is so true that when he went and saw her at the Humane Society, like she did pick him and he could tell that she wanted to go home with him. I think that's so true, Jenny, because I've heard that when you go to pick out a dog, you want to get the dog that pays attention to you, not the other dog. So my first experience that with that. We got a dog named Gracie. We saw her back when people used to read the newspaper.

There was the dog of the week at the Golden Valley Humane Society, so there was a golden yellow lab whatever and it was the dog of the week. We went down there, and of course that dog had already been adopted, but we saw this collie that was so skinny. She looked like a greyhound. She was so skinny, but had collie fur and colors on her, and she was so excited when we came by her little kennel and she would get up on her hind legs and put her paws up on the kennel

fence because she was so excited to see us. Yeah, and then we took her outside. And they say, if you take the dog out to the play area and it's busy sniffing other dog's butts and running with other dogs, that dog is not necessarily a great dog. But Gracie that was the name that they gave her. We never changed it. She wanted to be with us, and we took her home and she was such a good girl. And Josie was the same way. We got Josie at a pet store.

I'm not ashamed to admit I got her at a pet store. I won't do it again. Yeah, but we got her at a pet store in Colorado and she was probably i don't know, ten weeks twelve weeks old, and her and her brother were both for sale, and so we looked at both of them, and her brother was kind of like aloof and was like trying to get out of the little visiting, you know, little room or whatever. But Josie was so happy to be with us, and she has been the best dog I've ever had. Yeah, it is so true.

They do kind of choose you. But I'm glad it really worked out all right. So yesterday we got an email from Kelly, and Kelly had said, hey, you might remember this one. She talked about the state seal and why there is a French phrase on it, and then she said, well that is the state motto. And she talked about how it's tattooed on her arm. And remember we looked at this arm and we said, oh, that's a guy. Yeah with the wait, there's no hair on

this arm. That's a woman's arm with a lot of muscles. So Kelly heard that. She laughed and she said, thanks for reading my email today. Just got to say women can have strong muscles too. Oh, doesn't say Kelly. I don't know where I got the word Kelly. Well wait, it is Kelly, but she sent it from Rachel's email. So okay, Rachel, Kelly's using your email. Just let you know. But no, obviously women can have strong muscles too. But she's pretty ripped. Yes,

a very good bicep. Next one, here we go year's long listener and a fifth or so time emailer. You can say my name Kevin. Someone on today's podcast asked about the Space Needle studio, and that reminded me that I am wondered the same thing you've said previously. You're on the sixtieth floor, so I got curious and I looked up the building on Google street View, and I said, he's full of shit. That's not a sixty

story building. Fifth floor makes much more sense. Also, not wanting to be gullible, I was hesitant to believe when you said at one point that the top floor spins like the real Space Needle. As silly as it sounds, please confirm if this is true or false. As much as I don't believe it, my curiosity wants to know. You mentioned today you faced East, so I think it pretty much confirms my skepticism. But I had to

ask, No, the top of the building doesn't revolve. But I'm glad that we got an image in your head that makes everything seem a little bit more magical. Yeah, it's just an office building that if you drove by it, you would think there'd be a law firm or an acupuncturist clinic in this just a building. Secondly, you guys touched on parents not allowing children to date, including someone who did not date until nineteen years old. I

am twenty five. For my parents were chill, but sim similarly have yet to be in a serious relationship, aside from a girl in my high school I've message in FaceTime with but claims her father won't allow her to date under his roof despite being an adult. That's a story way too long for the podcast, But the realist in me decided, I just need to accept what it is and that I'll be happier just embracing being single, thinking positively.

Being single allows me to focus on my job, my personal wellness, and travels, which are my therapy. The more I focus on myself right now, the more ready I'll be to make that jump into the dating scene in a couple of years, when I'm more established in my new home, career, et cetera, and perhaps in a better mental headspace to handle heartbreak.

Just wanted to add this to my perspective, add this to share my perspective and maybe help those in my situation realize that being single isn't such a bad thing. You just need to have the right mindset. I've got my family, friends, a cat, and trips on the books and that's all I need right now anyway, want to share that story because I thought it's so what tied end. Thanks for all you do, dart lick and have a good weekend. Here's the address for stickers if you have any left, and

I will make sure I get you one. There we go, Kevin, I would say, it is a little surprising that you're twenty four and haven't dated, but you know what, if you're happy with it, that's fine. Carson doesn't date, and he would not listen to this podcast, so he'll never know that I was talking about him. But he doesn't date because I think somehow he's gotten in his mind that if you date, somebody's got to be serious. It's like, no, go on a date. Just

go on a date. You might never want to go on a date with them again, but it doesn't just go on a date. And because I'd love to have him to have a partner of some sort, and I've said, Carson, don't be so afraid of dating and be intimidated. I said, there's a girl or a guy out there for you that you would love to have around to have a pizza with, to get up on a Saturday morning and make break breakfast with or to go on a walk with. Because having a partner is so to me, so joyful, such a big part

of your life. I mean, Andrew is such a big part of your life. You really can't imagine not having Andrew around at this point in life. No, I could not imagine not having him around. But when I was Carson's age, I wasn't dating either, like I really was. But I like to be fair, I was out partying and I was going home with guys and stuff like that dating but you were hooking whatever. Yeah, but I really wasn't dating like I wasn't. I don't think dating apps were

a huge thing quite yet at that point. But I like went on a date here and there, but it just like wasn't my thing at that point in life. Like I was just I wanted to like go out and have fun, and I also was very focused on career stuff more so, and so I just didn't I didn't put any focus into dating. But yeah, I mean I was still kind of seeing people. I had people. Oh, I get it. No, I totally get that. Yeah, Carson, I think really wants a date because we've talked about it. He doesn't

like to talk seriously a lot of the time. He just doesn't that's very personal to him. And a year or so ago, we were driving that long road trip to LA when he moved out there, and I said, you know, we talked about dating. He said, it's not as easy as you think. He said, I've been on some of the apps and it just doesn't work. And it was about six months ago. I think I told you he went on a date with a girl who he had canceled

twice and he picked her up really late at night. She fell asleep in the movie theater and fell asleep on the way home, and she didn't speak much English, and it was a disaster. Yeah, And I thought that sucks because now that's a bad experience. It's kind of like if you go, I don't know, you go to the water park and you have a bad experience, you don't want to go there again. Go to the water park, you have a great time. You're like, I can't wait to

come back to the water park. So anyway, what else can I end to that? Not a lot. I will say that Kevin attached a picture of you from the Real Space Needle Studio. Real space Needle in Seattle and that is really cool. So there's Mount Rainier in the background. Kevin, thanks for sending that along. And that is pretty much it for the Minnesota Goodbye. I appreciate all the emails. Send more to Ryan Show at KDWB dot com.
