And here we go with the Minnesota Goodbye with freshly traveled all over the world traveler fallon bond set. Is there anything that you want to say on the Minnesota Goodbye about your travels over the last week? You know what? I
not? Like, I guess something unique to say. I would say, check out my blog, because I really did breakdown like everything we did, and a lot of people were messaging and saying like they Switzerland's the most beautiful place they've ever visited if they have, or that it's on their bucket list. So people had a lot of questions. And I will say this. One interesting thing is someone had recommended, oh, rent a car, but I think if you're there for a full week, you really just don't need
to rent a car because it's such a train friendly city. Okay, but since we had such a limited time, I didn't want to be on a train schedule, but we ended up having to take trains and gondolas for lots of things. Anyway, and it's a really expensive country, like it was really expensive and um beautiful, probably the most beautiful place I've ever been. That's what I mean. I'm sure it is. I mean, it's Switzerland and all. It always conjures up images of you know, the alps and
cows with bells, the cows with the huge bells around their necks. Oh really, Oh yeah, that's like they're one of the things. I didn't know that. Yeah. Um expensive, So let's talk about that for a second, because you know, I mean that's going to be a factor for a lot of people. Would you say, I have no idea what even compare it to? Like, you know, I mean you got to get
the flight, so the flight is probably going to be a lot. Uh, and then the hotels are more expensive than if you're going to stay for like example, in New York maybe or what do you think? No, I think you can find pretty comparable lodging. I think I didn't look at their hotel prices. I just ad Airbnb since there were four of us, and I thought it was pretty comparable. It seemed at least um but I think gas was a little bit more expensive. Food is definitely more expensive.
Iceland is incredibly expensive too, Like we found such that we had we Jake and I found the craziest deal on earth when we went to Iceland. I got airplane tickets each person two hundred and fifty dollars round trip RUC flight Delta. I'll never find a deal like that again. And everyone said, yeah, you can get there cheap, but good luck once you're there. And it was true. Like a happy hour beer in Iceland was like eight dollars, which that's crazy for a happy hour beer. So yeah, it was
really expensive. We didn't buy a ton. They're not known for food other than chocolate and cheese, so our dining was very like boring, you know, I get it. Yeah, it was kind of like some countries you definitely want to try the food, like France and Italy. Oh yeah, France, we went to town. When we went to Germany, they the food there was like, you know, it's German food. It's nothing. Nobody goes, oh god, German food. I like German food, but it's not like, oh my god, I can't wait for the food.
Japan listened that we saw like such world trap velers Japan. The food is absolutely part of the experience, but you've gotta have the nerve, bravery, stomach or whatever for it because it is a lot of exotic fish. Yes, and if you're not a fish person, that's going to be rough. Last thing do they drive on the same side of the road in Switzerland as they do here. Yes, they do. Okay, good, that would screw me up so bad. I know they Europe loves roundabouts. That is
like the one thing to do. Yeah, they love them. So there are a lot of roundabouts, a lot of tunnels. And it was really messing with Jake. He was driving and he was tired, and I was like a little worried because I was like, do you want me to drive? He was just kind of like, He's like, the tunnels are really
messing with me. And they weren't messing with me. But you'd be in a tunnel for like five to ten minutes, then you'd get out and you'd be out for a little bit and then be in another one because you're going through the mountains. Yeah, and it was it was I don't know. For some reason, I was really messing with him. I told you guys, and I put up my blog. I thought it was so interesting. You cannot buy drugs like grocery stores gas stations only you can only get them
at pharmacies. And it's not like where you walk into a CBS. Here, you just grab your cold medicine on the counter. You have to go up to the counter, tell the person what you're you know, what you need, and then they pull it from behind the counter for you. So I thought that was interesting. Like one day we couldn't My nephew was having the worst allergies. I felt so bad from his eyes were swelling. We
couldn't find a pharmacy open for like a day and a half. Finally got to one and they we got there at twelve thirty and they had just closed for their lunch break at noon, so we missed them by thirty minutes and they did not reopen until four pm, so it was like a four hour break in the middle of the day. But it was just interesting. Well you know what, and it is And that's so funny because I'm going to guess a lot of people travel to Switzerland or other countries and expect the culture
to be very similar here. It's like, no, that is, it's a half a world away and it is entirely different culture than you can expect here. All right, let's move on to the emails on the Minnesota Goodbye. I was catching up on the Minnesota Goodbye listening to the Intuition episode. I do have a story about my sister. Last week on the show, we were talking about how you feel something and you know something like somebody said, oh, like they knew that somebody had died or their spouse died because
they woke up in the middle of the night. Things like that. I was at a friend's house one morning. I was out of breath. I said a few times, I said, I can't get a deep breath, and I kind of brushed it off. Forty five minutes later, my mom calls to tell me my sister is in the hospital from a bad asthma attack. My friend was absolutely blown away. My sister and I have a connection,
very deep. Many times I've woken up in a panic and will text my sister to make sure, and sure enough she's awake with her and her inhaler. It is magical. I absolutely love it. Any who, that's all so just an intuition kind of a connection. Next one, it says congratulations Dave on his thirtieth anniversary from Nancy. One of my favorite memories of Dave is from a happy hour. Dave and pat were giving away Star Party
tickets. So this is a long time ago. When Pattyberts was here, there was a musical chair contest that came down to me and one other person. Dave and Pat came up with a dance off competition to break the tie. The other person went first and they did great. When it came to be my turn, I froze. I said, can I try it again? Can I try it again? And I froze again. Pat then stepped in as a substitute dancer for me, but the other person, of course
won the tickets. Dave came up to me later and said, if you come to the station on Monday, I'll leave two tickets for you at the front desk. At that time, you had to win tickets to get into Star Party. Well you still do, actually, Thanks Dave. I never forgot that. Cheers two thirty years, Nancy that you know what, I
kind of kind of remember that other things Minnesota. Goodbye, Hey Dave and everybody on the Dave Ryan Show. I am the listener who recalls listening to Katie to be in the days of wildfire, please mister Postman in the local motion, which means I've been listening to your morning show for all of your thirty years. I will be sixty in December, and the Morning Show keeps me young today now more than ever. I'm loving the show because there is
so much to celebrate with. Or four Dave on his thirty years. Congratulations Laura. She is from Minneapolis now lives in Westfield, Indiana. Is that anywhere near your hometown of Fort Wayne? Haven't heard of it? And I'm not from Fort Wayne? How dare you? You've been telling me for years you're from Fort Wayne. Oh, You're lucky you're in a different state.
You've been saying you went to Fort Wayne North High School, home of the fighting air fresheners, for all these years, and now you're talking fighting air fresheners. How does an air freshener fight? How does a buckeye fight? You know? I mean it's a little tree hanging from a string. You tell me you're an air freshener. Don't start, You're on my You're you're triggering me. Minnesota. Goodbye. Next one big fan from Brittany, following
up on the email about the grandson. Oh here it was dreaming his grandpa was dying before he could tell him the news about the baby's name. A few years ago, my mom's best friend died of an accidental overdose My sister got married a few years later. The night before her wedding, she came to me in a dream. I hadn't thought of her, so this was a shock when I realized what may have happened. The dreams her sitting on
my mom's front porch. The wedding was at my mom's house. I remember asking her what she was doing there in clear as day, she said, I want your mom to know I'm here and I'm checking in on her. So that was her mom's best friend. I woke up and I had chills and immediately called my mom. We both cried. To this day. I find it hard to believe it was a coincidence. We'll never know if it
was some weird thing or if she actually came to me. Not everybody believes in that, but it's not the first time or last time that it's happened. Thanks for all you do. Love you guys from Brittany. I'm the kind of person that wants to believe in stuff like that, because for me, that's like beautiful, you know what I mean. Like, then, oh, it's very comforting. Absolutely Yeah. I'm trying to go through a couple of these that are a little bit longer. This one says it's from
Todd. Todd says subject line, Dave's crying because I've been talking about how I get really emotional lately, like I'll talk about a movie or even just talking about being emotional makes me start to, like, you know, like well up a little bit, Dave. In response to you getting teary eyed and whatnot, I wouldn't stress about it too much. I think it comes with age and maturity. I couldn't have cared less about a lot of things, and was told a lot that I was almost too insensitive until I had
kids. Now when I hear about a kid getting injured in a car accident, I'm a lot more sensitive to it. I think we just grow. Heck, I found myself tearing up to Ted Lasso the other day. I think you just do that as we get older. So yeah, it's true. I'll see something like there was something the other day about some young girl.
I don't know Susan would remember, she's here somewhere, but it was on TV about some young girl like twenty five years old or something dying, and it was like God, and I don't even know I was on the news. I was like, how sad, you know, just so yeah, let's see if there's anything else. Okay, here we go podcast questions. Now, let's tackle these and see what we come up with. From Sarah, I been wanted up podcast stats for a while and finally realize my
favorite host could probably answer my questions. Is there a reason most weekly podcasts come out on Mondays or Tuesdays? Anybody? I believe there's just studies to show that's when like listenership is at its highest. I think it's because people are coming off of a long weekend, they have like I don't know, maybe there are nose to the ground more at work. They're listening to podcasts
on their way into work for commute there. I don't know. I think it's because that's like the time that they have more time to listen to a podcast. So that's why they come out, and then podcasters release them on those days because they've seen information that shows this is where the highest listenership days are. Okay, I mean it could make it makes sense. I mean,
I don't know. It's funny. I'll tell you a quick little story in radio that in radio loves to do things At seven twenty in the morning, seven twenty in the morning, seven twenty morning. We do it all the time here on KATIB. Why seven twenty, Well, it's because all the other radio stations do it. So radio stations believe that it must be the right time. Now, it is a very busy listen to time because
most people are up. If you're gonna be up in the morning, you're usually up by seven twenty, and that is one of our peak peak hours is seven twenty. But the real reason radio does something at seven twenty goes back about thirty years and I don't have all the details, but there were two radio stations that competed with each other in New York City, and one knew that the other one would be in commercials at seven twenty, and they
would not be in commercials at seven twenty. So they did all of their powerful giveaway like their front row tickets for the Rolling Stones or whatever was big back in nineteen eighty six or nineteen ninety three or whatever. They would do it at seven twenty. Radio stations around the country would say, why is Z one hundred given away? Well, they're given away their tickets at seven twenty. We should give away our tickets at seven twenty. So all these
years later, nobody even knows why they do it at seven twenty. That's funny. We just do based on two competing radio stations in New York thirty years ago or more, and we still do it here at KATWB would be like, okay, we're giving away Taylor Swift tickets. What time seven twenty seven twenty in the morning. So I mean it still is like in the seven o'clock hour, like a good time, because that is when, like
most people would be commuting. So I get seven o'clock in general. But yeah, but I wonder if the podcast thing it might be the kind of the same way, like why does new music come out on Fridays? Now? New music used to come out on Tuesdays, but they must have figured out some way that it's a better time. I don't ye. Next podcast question, um, if I click Mark has played, does it count the same as if I actually listen to the episode. I'm not going to get
into that one because I'll be honest with you, I don't know. I don't know. I could read the entire question and I wouldn't know. Fallon, I agree with you about Eric's song in the Little Mermaid. It was cringe e. Yeah. I love the rest of the movie except for Flounder. Me and my seven year old were both both thought that he looked creepy. Your thoughts, Yeah, I mean he was a little creepy. I think he could have been more colorful, less sad in the eyes. The
movie overall was pretty good. There's yeah. I had mentioned the one song Eric has a solo song which is not in the cartoon, and it was a little cringey to watch. I was like, could have cut that, could have cut it. Wonder why they didn't. I wonder why they didn't look at it in post and go mmmm, no, huh. Maybe they just wanted it a certain length. Maybe I mean that I think that that song is in like their Broadway play show of The Little Mermaid. But yeah,
I don't know, Okay. And finally, Sarah says Dave is a fellow Simple Plan fan. I recommend and you checking out a few of their newish songs, You Didn't Ruin My Life and The Antidote. They are so good. I love Simple Plan. I love their angsty heartbroken, bad childhood, I hate my parents kind of a even though I didn't have a bad childhood or hate my parents, but it's still they have this like they have this very young, angsty kind of a vibe, and I haven't listened to
them in years. I haven't bought their new music in years, but I will definitely check that out because I love Simple Plan. Sarah says, thanks for putting it on such an amazing show. You are all so fun and that is going to do it for the Minnesota. Goodbye for today. If you want to send an email, send them to Ryan Show at KDWB dot com
