And now time for the Minnesota goodbye. Uh. Thank you for listening, Thanks for whether you listen first time or many times. Thanks for being here. And if you've written in, thank you very much. You've never written in, You're more than welcome to But you don't have to is for you to enjoy and participate if you want to. Here comes Rischell. You got

a couple of different random questions. First one's about music rights, and she goes on for a little bit about the song stick Season, And then she listened to another version of stick Season, her version by Deeps, and they said it's the exact same music as Stick Season, but different lyrics that tell the story of the other side of the relationship. And he reuses the same

lyrics but adds his own. I know anybody can make music in their basement and probably put it online with no repercussions since nobody's ever gonna hear it. But what are the responsibilities to the original artists? If your basement version cover of a song hits it big, do you have to ask retro permission? Have you heard this song? I live musically under a rock. I mostly listen to kids stuff in the car. Now that most music has swearing in

it. But maybe you already talked about something like this. I don't have enough time to listen to the show podcast much anymore, but I never missed the Minnesota Goodbye. That is a mystery to me. I don't know. I think artists do get pissed. Let's say, for example, that Beyonce comes out with a song and she samples an old Stevie Nick song, which she did. What was the song, Kelly, do you limber this? Gosh? Hey, was she sampled? I think the Edge of seventeen?

Oh okay, But I think that when you're Beyonce, you get permission because you're Beyonce. If you are you know, Alex from Saint Louis Park, and you sampled Stevie Nicks or stampleed Beyonce, nobody's gonna stop you. It is free on the internet, but once it goes big, I think once you make money off of it, they can come after you. I don't know, but it's absolutely unfair that if I wrote, you know, let's say that there's an old Stevie Nick song and I sample it and I start

making money off of it. Stevie Nicks deserves part of that money, and a lot of people don't realize that this song is sampled, Like people don't realize there's an old song Ghetto Superstar. Ghetto Superstar, that is what you are. That song was written by the Beg's and it's Islands in the Stream by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Did you know that? No? And I know all of those songs, but no, I did not know the connection there. Yeah, the original song goes Island's in the Stream, that

is what we Are? No, and in between. But they redid it as Ghetto Superstar, and if I remember right, they didn't get permission to use the melody until it got big, and then the publishing company that owned the rights of that song went after whoever did Ghetto Superstar and said pay up. Yeah, but if I'm in my basement and I use a Beyonce song

sample, I don't know what point I have to pay for it. I was saying, I feel like it, just as if it makes a lot of money at some point, then the artist will be like, Okay, now I get a cut of it. You know what I mean? They probably don't care. They probably don't care up until like a certain point,

right and they absolutely should. I remember there was one of the guys in the Eagles, and the Eagles have been around for fifty plus years, and he was pissed because artists were using his music as samples and to rewrite and he's like, just because it's on the internet doesn't mean that it's free for the taking. We worked hard on those songs and it took talent to write

those songs. So it really sucks when somebody comes along. But then you look at somebody like, what was the guy that was at Boo Bash? Paul Russell? And that song is a total ripoff of an old earth Wind and Fire song. At some point he did it in his basement and at some point earth Wind and Fire and their publishing company found out about it. And you know that Paul Russell had to pay rights on it, and he probably didn't get that rich off of it because most of the songwriting credit goes

to earth Wind and Fire. Yeah, I didn't know that either. You didn't know that little boothang is a ripoff of earth Wind and Fire. Yeah? No, you got the best to my love? Whoa you got the best of my love? I'm a little booth thing? Is that probably the best of my love. Whoah, You'm a little booth thing and were listened to the song and you'll be like, oh shit, I didn't know,

So let's move on. Allsos in the grocery store looking at water of the all the water available, and got to wondering why people buy such large amounts of water. I'm talking about the gallon or larger jugs that you can buy a refill in the store. I live in Aton Prairie. The water is good here flavor wise, definitely me. It's all the safety criteria. I can't imagine more than a handful of houses in this suburb have lead pipes or issues with safe water coming from the faucet. A while back, I had

a beta fish that needed spring water for his bowl. But I can't think of other reasons to buy water when it's perfectly free and clean from every faucet in my house. I don't know. I think that some people like bottled water, like Culligan water, because it does taste better and you know it's purified, and you know it's drinking water specifically. But I agree with you.

We used to have a Colligan water dispenser in our house, and the Colligan guy would come by every couple of weeks and give us new jugs. But we don't have it anymore. We've got a water tap here at the station that's like purified water out of a bottle or out of a faucet or whatever. But and I use that. But at home, I just drink. Susan drinks water filtered from the fridge tap, saying I don't I just get it. You get it from the fridge tap. Yep, Andrew does

it just from the sink? Yeah, I do it from the sink t Yeah, I know, I don't. I've never really been like a dug water person either. But aren't certain ones at the store aren't they for like a steamer or a iron or something that is? Yeah, deionized water is for your steamer or your iron or purified whatever. But I put regular water in my iron. Yeah, I just put regularly. If it breaks,

the iron, irons are nineteen bucks, you know what I mean. So, but I don't know why some people want to buy We don't buy bottled water. We just don't. We don't buy bottled water. I think it's a horrible waste of resources. I think bottled water is one of the biggest fucking scams out there. I don't like it because people that drink bottled water

a lot of the time they're environmentally conscious. It is one of the biggest kicks in the balls on the environment because you have a truck that's getting a half a mile to the gallon bringing this bottled water in from a plant that uses tons of power, tons of energy to bottle this water. And then you have a plastic bottle at the end of it that goes in a landfill most of the time goes in a landfill. So bottled water is a fucking

kick in the balls to the environment. And what kills me is that people go, oh, the environment global warming while they're sipping on a dessani and I'm like, okay, you mean well, but you can't have it both ways. Yeah, I don't get it either. All right, Next one, since I don't catch much of the main show lately, what's the story with Vant? I thought he was on the night show and at one point Dave said it to be a step down for vant to leave his own show

and join as a third or fourth chair on the morning show. Is he still doing the other show? I think that we have put vont in more of a present role in up front roll because it would be a step down. And I used to tell e White wanted to leave the night show to be on our show, and I said, no, don't do that. I said, we don't have enough room for you to stand out on our show. That was back when Fallon was here, So that would have been

like a fifth person on the show. Yeah, and so but with there's three of us, and so there's more room for him now since Drake is not here. Does he sleep, Yeah, he does, he does fine. And last one, I love this. It's so freaking random. How is Jenny's hair so straight and shiny that early in the morning? You know, thank you for the compliment. I don't really know. I think it's just shining because it's very blonde. I don't do anything super particular to it

though. I did, however, get a Brazilian blowout a handful of months ago, which really like straightens out your hair. So maybe that's what it is for this time, But that's faded. So Jenny does have nice hair, and it is long and thick and blonde. Can I ask you a question, is that natural? Do you color your hair at all? I

do color my hair. I didn't yeh that, yes, I do, but I am very I used to be this blonde when I was younger, and then it started getting a little bit more dirty blonde as I got older. So I've always had blonde hair. It's just at this point I have to diet to keep it quite as blond as what it is. Okay, because I know a lot of kids like Ava, my granddaughter, her hair

is blonde. It's about your color, maybe a little bit darker. A lot of kids have blonde hair when they're little, and then it turns darker as they get older. I don't know why that is, but I think it's true. Alyssa says, hello, favorite people. Graduation seasons coming. I have a high school student. We're starting to receive some invites. My son is in the tenth grade this year, so they are not classmates. Some are family friends or sports friends. My question is my questions how much

do I give? Do you two have any gift ideas When my son is a senior, do I give more that year? Can I give more to his close friends? I don't want to be insulting by giving too low of an amount, but money is tight. I also don't want to be over zealous and give too much and then get less than the family in return and make them feel bad. I hope this makes sense. It does. Thanks, as always, you all get me through the day. Thoughts, Jenny, what do you think? Hey? How much do I give? Do?

Okay? Gift ideas? What do you think? I always think that money is the best gift for graduation because for me, all my money went towards college tuition, So I think that money is the best gift. And I would say somewhere between thirty to seventy five dollars, depending on your relationship with them. I don't know. I probably I haven't had graduations like since I graduated high school, so I don't and I wasn't the one giving money

back then. It was probably my mom helping me out give people money, and we didn't have a lot, so I'm pretty sure we probably gave people like thirty bucks at their graduation parties. I, boy, you're more generous than me. Carson went through this a couple of years ago, and I'm not remembering what we sent his friends, but I remember what he got. He had a lot of Chipotle gift cards, a lot of twenty five dollars Chipola gift cards, I think that that's great. If you want to give

cash, that's great too. I think as long as you're giving something, nobody is going to say, God, a listener kid only gave me twenty five bucks. I think it's pretty generous. I think that's a good amount. Yes, And a Potely gift card, I think that's fine. If you want to give cash, that's fine too. But a Chipotly or McDonald's or Caine's or Chick fil A, I'm thinking of all the places Carson loved. Caribou maybe, but I think a gift card is fine. When my

son is a senior, do I have to give more that year? No? Absolutely not? And can I give more to his close friends? Sure? But again, I think I'll go back to the idea. Not once did Carson or me or Susan ever open up an envelope that Carson got from anybody relative or friend or anybody and say, God, they only gave you ten dollars, because you go, well, at least they gave me something. That's cool, because it's a gift, not a requirement. Am I

wrong? No, You're completely right. I just like I said, I've been out of that graduation party game for a long time, so I don't know what the appropriate amount is. God. I remember when I was a kid, I mailed out a graduation card to everybody that I a graduation announcement to everybody that I knew, every relative that I could think of. I mailed it out and I watched that mailbox like it was a slot machine.

And I'm watching that thing and it's like, oh, I remember opening up cards and got nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, five dollars nothing, nothing, ten dollars nothing. And I was like God, And really I was being a little dick because I was using it as a way to get paid and it didn't really work out that way. But it's fine. Thank you, Melissa. I really liked that one. Here we go. This is from Mike, who calls himself a senior staff writer and show BFF.

Hello Radio Faves, Dave Jenny Vaught listening to the show podcast on Monday, Dave, what you said about your mom and her hands was beautiful to hear. How real you were when you talked about her touched my heart. I was talking about I don't want to get emotional, but I probably will.

But I was talking on the show the other day about how my mom would have been one hundred this past Sunday, and I was telling the story about how when she grew up, she grew up with I don't even know the extent of the abuse and the neglect and what a rotten childhood she had. I don't know the extent, but I do know that when she was about six years old, her mother ran off with her boyfriend. They lived in Idaho. It was the middle of winter, and left my six year old

mom and her four year old sister alone to fend for themselves. Now you can't even imagine that's something that would make headlines today. My mom was so confused, where's my mom where? And so she wandered outside to look for her mom, as if she was going to find her, like you know, across the street. She wandered around, and she froze her her hands in the freezing cold, and she was found by She lived near or on

an Indian reservation. And I know you're not supposed to say the word Indian anymore, And somebody, you know, butchered me the other day because I said Indian. But I'm so used to hearing that my mom tell the story that way. So she lived nearer on the reservation, and the natives found her and they took her inside and they put her hands in cold in warm water, and it saved her hands. But her hands were all gnarled the rest of her life, and her hands never fully recovered. And so that's

my mom's hands, and I can still picture them. They were curled, they wouldn't straighten up, and they were kind of knobby and whatever. And my friends once in a while would say, what's wrong with your mom's hands? And to me, they were beautiful. They were my mom's hands. They were the hands that, like you know, held my hand or comforted me or gave me a spoonful of medicine or whatever. My mom's hands were beautiful, and I never thought anything other than that they were my mom's hands.

So that's what he's talking about. Yeah, he says. This is a huge reason I listened to y'all on the radio, and iHeart I don't think you're portraying characters. I believe you are being your real, authentic selves during your job, which just happens to be talking on the radio. And I will agree with you Mike. I will say that there are radio people that I know that are playing a role on the radio. They are not

who they pretend they are, and people buy it. And to me, it's like, I know that person is not who they pretend they are, and it's frustrating, just kind of like when you look at who is the one it was like a mom fluencer or something, and she was pretending to be a wonderful mother influencer. You know what I'm talking about. Well,

you're talking about there was one recently that blew up. But then there was also someone who just like I don't know, I think she was selling books and all kinds of crazy stuff and then like I think she had a divorce from her husband, Like I think they had this picture perfect marriage and then it was like a me behind the closed doors. Well, I think celebrities are kind of the same way. Celebrities will show you this. First of all, we look at a beautiful face or a handsome face, and we

give them so much credit for being wonderful. It's called the halo effect. And if you ever worked with somebody who is beautiful or gorgeous and they get treated like the boss's little pet because they're gorgeous. It's frustrating because you go, I see how they really are, and I've worked with people who had that halo effect and they got treated like the boss's little pet, and it's like they are not a good person anyway. Goes on to say, appreciate

what you do for so many of us. Make us realize to take life appropriately. Life has meant to be lived. There are times to be serious, but not all the time. Enjoy it, have fun, and experience it right from Mike, how we do it? On timed I got some time? Do you want any more? Yeah? Are you bored yet? Are you done? No? I'm okay. Here we go with let's do this one from Charise or Charise every time we say it, we say it wrong. It is Sharise, one of your regular staff writers. Question for

you, guys, I'm in a new ish relationship. He's thirty one. I'm gonna be forty six in September. Things are going great, going on five months now. I was wondering when is the appropriate time to introduce him to my children. Now here's an important aspect. They're twelve and almost fourteen year old girls. We have discussed the fact that we see a future for us that includes marriage one day. I just wonder how much longer I should

wait to introduce them to each other. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I think you're ready, I say, I think you got to take that one, because I'm not a parent, so I don't know. Like I know, it's mostly like you want to protect your children, and that's why

you probably aren't introducing a new person into their lives too soon. I think, ma, I think the kids will be glad that mom has seen someone, But then again, you never know if they Some kids have this weird loyalty to the other partner, so it might be like, I don't want anybody to replace dad, and you're never going to replace my dad. And I know somebody right now who is kind of going through that because their mother died. Dad got remarried, and the girls don't like the new mom.

And it's not even she's not even trying to be a mom, She's trying to be a good person and they are in love. But the girls resist it because I think they feel guilty, almost a betrayal of their dead mother by accepting the new wife into the family. But I'd say they're twelve and fourteen. It's as long as I would say series. Just have him be genuine and don't let him be fakey, fakey nice and bring them gifts and

take them out to ice cream and take them to Valley Fair. If it's not really him, if he's going to do that shit, make sure he really wants to and he's not trying to con them and win them over. Yeah for sure. Uh Okay, next one. Okay, that's a little bit of a long one, so I'm gonna see if I can find a shorter one because we might not. Kind of running out of time listening to you guys about dogs off the leash. I got an almost four year old

beagle. She is a brat. She is very reactive to people and other animals. While she wasn't always this way, she does not like it when unknown people or pets approach her. For that reason, she is on a leash at all times. If you do not have your dog on a leash and it approaches mine, I am fully aware that my dog will react, and likely very poorly. For that reason, keep your dogs on a leash when it is not in a fenced area. There is no wiggle room for

what ifs on this topic. For your dog safety, keep them on a leash. We live in a town home for the time being, so maybe one day she'll experience the off leash lifestyle when we move to a house with a fenced inn yard where we can control the environment. Till then, our dog will remain leashed and yours should too. That's from page. I've gotten no argument with you on that one at all. Page totally agree, and I think that's gonna do it for the Minnesota goodbieble wrap it up there.

If you got any comments on graduation gifts, that's a really interesting topic, I'd love to hear what you think about that one. Send those emails to Ryanshow at KDWB dot com. I say that so many times that but people still go, what's the address again? So I'm happy to tell you it's Ryan Show at kadiwb at dot com. Thank you for listening to the Minnesota Goodbye. You know what I'm gonna do right now, I'm gonna go pee.

I haven't peed since I got up this morning, and we've been so busy today I haven't had a chance to pee, So I'm gonna go do that right now. Bye,
