Friday weekend version of the Minnesoda Goodbye. We're going to go back to one that came in a couple of days ago that I did not get a chance to read from a milio. What do you look for to get on the radio if you actually have the talent? That is such a really interesting question, Jenny. Let's dive into this one a little bit. What do you look for to get on the radio if you actually have the talent? So I think Amelia is saying, Hey, I'd love to be on the radio.

How do I get on the radio? Or what do you look for? A big personality? I think that's the main thing, is a big personality. Quiet doesn't work. Yeah, Carson would never He's a wonderful, lovely person, but he would never be good on the radio. But I would say a big personality and a willingness to put yourself out there. And

I'm going to tell you just really quick. I was at my gym the other day and I heard one of the trainers talking to some clients and I said, she would be a potential good radio person because she's got a big personality and she doesn't talk like that. Because there's some people that get on the radio, and it's like, Okay, that might work for podcasting maybe, but on the radio you have to bring a certain amount of energy,

right, So what else you need to bring to the radio? Jenny, Well, I think you pretty much covered the main things because I think you could have a big personality, but you're not necessarily okay with public speaking, because that's my boyfriend. He is very nervous when it comes to public speaking. So you kind of just got to know if you have that quality or not. I always loved getting in front of the classroom and like presenting a

project or something that was very comfortable for me. But yeah, you could have a big personality, but you might not necessarily love being in front of a microphone, So you have to like distinguish if you have that or not. But I would say, also, ugh, I'm trying to think that's like the main thing because everything else is more like technical behind the scenes of like what else you need which is easy to learn? Ye, Honestly,

there's nothing that we do technically that's difficult to learn. I would say, also, be willing to put yourself out there, and by that I mean, you know how a dancer, they're so fucking good. Like you watch the Timberwolves dancers, or a high school dance team or a college dance team. They're not shy about it. They put themselves out there, they want you to watch. They take a chance. Whereas if I had to dance in front of a crowd, I'd feel so stupid. Yeah that's not me.

But on the radio, I put myself out there. I take chances. I say things to kind of poke the bear once in a while, and you know, stir things up, or I'll talk to the story, you know, the nerf ball story, or how I had the dream the other night that I was cheating on Susan. And most people would not want to put out. And that's one thing that holds a lot of people back in this business is we've brought people in and they're like, yeah, well

I can't talk about my boyfriend. Well you can't talk about your boyfriend. Well that's one of the biggest things we talk about is our relationships, right, So, but there is a level of like privacy we keep. There is a level you do not have to tell everything, but you have to be willing to talk about quite a bit more than you Probably I would feel

comfortable with a normal coworker or something so true. There have been several things in my life in the past ten or fifteen years that I would never want to talk about, and I don't just like you know what. You might share things with your partner that you would never share with your friend, or you might share things with your friend that you would never share with your partner.

And I will also say this, and it is not to take a dig at anybody who thinks that they're ready to be on the radio, but I have learned over the years that many people think that they can do what we do because we make it sound easy. Yeah, and I'm not trying

to pat us on the back, but we make it sound easy. To know when to shut up and let Jenny talk, and Jenny to react to what I'm saying, and to listen to each other and know when something's dying off to let it go, and when something's not happening, like Jenny, what you do this weekend and there's really nothing there, You don't sit there and go, oh yeah, keep going, Oh that sounds really fun. You're gonna get brunch with your girlfriend that you've seen. That's the end of

the story. Like you don't go. There was a an intern on the show and she was she's a wonderful person. And Fallon and I used to joke about it because we said, hey, you'd be really great on the radio. You get a big personality. Come in on Monday with some really cool stories. Let us know what you did over the weekend. And we thought, oh, she'd have something about a bad blind date or you know, something that she got into a fight at a bar or something. Whatever

she comes in, she's I got such a great story. I got, oh good, we got such a great story. And her story was my mom and I made the most delicious cookies. Fucking shut up? Are you serious? And it was like, that's that's so. I think a lot of people think that they can be on the radio, but I don't tell myself that I can do your job for In other words, if you are a salesperson for Medtronic, you make it look easy, but I could never do what you do. Yeah, you crunch numbers all day, or you're

a trainer, or you sell cosmetics. You make it look easy, but I could never do what you do because you're good at it. Yep, I agree, all right, So there you go, Amelio. As far as getting on the radio, I don't even know how to tell people how to get a job in radio anymore. And it's true, I don't. Yeah, it's very different nowadays, and truthfully, there's not as many jobs

out there period. It's very true. Okay. I did send out a bunch of maybe twenty staff writers stickers last night, including one to Brianna in Thief River Falls, and they wrote something interesting, they said. Listening to the podcast, Bailey is back helping fill in, and it got me thinking, would it ever be possible to have a game day with Bailey and Benjamin? Possibly? Oh yeah, they're both very entertaining. I think it would make a fun show to listen to. I also think Vaunt should get promoted

to be on the show full time with Fallon and Zach. I don't know that that would be a promotion, honestly, because he's got his own show now. Yeah, and Fallon plays more music in the afternoon, yep, so there'd be a lot of standing around. I don't think. You know, Vonn's on the show, and he's really good when he's on the show, but I think a lot of the time it's just Fallin and zachause they're

limited more. They play more music, right, and so I think if we're on the afternoon show full time, he's doing a lot of standing around with his hands in his pockets. Yeah, but he's got his own show. Yeah, he does, which is big for him, especially because he's super young. He's like fresh out of college. Yes, it's very true. All right, here we go from Liz. Liz is a regular contributor and a staff writer. Dave, not sure if you did get this message

before. I think I sent it after you left for your Magic convention. I just heard you mentioned mocktails on yesterday's show and hoping you saw that they aren't sold out. Bootleg I mentioned is a citrusy, minty kind of drink, and Paloma is greate fruity. So we were talking about dry January and

different cocktails. I've been doing dry January. I've not had a drink since eleven forty five on New Year's Eve, and I feel great and I sleep better, and I think of all all the calories that I haven't consumed and all the damage that I haven't done to my body. Because if you drink too much, it'll damage your body. Anyway, we all know that most people don't drink too much and don't have to worry about it. I did find out that the mocktail that I've been drinking is kind of like a Manhattan

bourbon Y kind of a thing. I looked on the can last night and it does have alcohol less than zero point five percent alcoholka, which in a twelve ounce can is probably about a t spoon of alcohol. And I didn't like that. I mean, that's almost nothing, but I didn't like that. Is that how na beers are? Do they have a tiny percentage? Some of them do. Look at the label, like Heineken zero point zero has no alcohol, okay, whereas like the Coures one or whatever might have

a lial bit like a minute amount of alcohol. But I was kind of disappointed because I'm still going to say that I haven't had an alcoholic drink all through January, because one tea spoon of alcohol and I'll have two of those a night, does not make a drink to me. You drink Nike Will Nike Will's got more alcohol in it than that, and I wouldn't count that as drinking alcohol either. But I became aware and I'm probably not going to

buy those again because I don't want any alcohol. Okay, good for you, damn it, Jenny, next one. Hello, first time writer, but everyday listener. An fyi regarding the call of Guard colon cancer test that was mentioned earlier this week, don't do it. If anything shows up positive, insurance will not pay for your colonoscopy as it changes from preventative to diagnostic. This procedure is quite expensive, so suck it up, do the prep. Take a nice little nap as your bum is being inspected. Thanks for

all the laughs and cuss words. Fuck yeah, I said that, not her mixed my day. Thank you from Ginger so interesting. So in other words, I'll tell you this one. Don't be afraid of a colonoscopy. They're nothing. The worst part is getting the needle in your vein for the anesthetic. You don't remember something going up your ass. You don't feel it going up your ass. It's small. It's the size of a pencil.

It's not like some big giant porn dildo that's going up your ass, although I yeah, I know, because I would like, seriously, I would like one of those big giant porn dildos where you go no way is she gonna do. Oh wow, oh look at Susan. Get in here. Look at this girl. Wow, you got a pumpkin upper. Asses. God, Okay, Jenny's turning red. No, I'm not. I'm trying to figure out if I can name this big giant p d or something like that big giant pumpkin dildo. Oh that's funny. All right, here we

go from Nicole. Here's some random thoughts you guys had talked about across my mind. I should be working, but I am burnt out. First, Jenny, while I don't give a dart lick about you using the term Friday junior, it is my belief that Thursday is in fact not the junior to Friday Junior comes after the senior. So clearly Saturday is Friday Junior. Your thoughts, Okay, I see your point. I don't know where I started

hearing Friday junior from. I heard and actually someone I think I started hearing it that it was junior Friday. I was calling a junior Friday and then someone was like, no, it would be Friday junior. So I did change that. So I mean, maybe I have removed using that for the last couple of Wather reports on my Thursday, I notice that. Yeah,

yeah, because I know that some people were annoyed. But I also now get sent so many messages from people saying like It's like I got a real yesterday of someone being like, happy Friday, Junior, and I was like, all right, it's still something that a lot of people like, so I'll probably still use it. I like it because it is a signal. It's a positive signal that hey, it's almost Friday. Yeah, and let's see, I open the wrong tab, so give me one second to open

the correct tab, and here we go. She goes on to say I recently came across the Amazon Music platform and found out they have far less commercial interruptions than the other platforms. Also, it's although it is a bit more clunky and not very user friendly. So if you have problems with commercials on the iHeart platform, that's their problem. I would love to listen. Have you listen on the iHeart platform, because we get credit for that, and

we don't get credit on the Amazon platform. I believe no, we get credit for all streaming we do. Okay, listen wherever you want to. When iHeart gets it right, then go back to iHeart. I do love the iHeart platform because it's got radio shows on it. Amazon does not, so you can listen to his live on the iHeart platform. Thanksgiving think Fast in January had me giggling hard. So it was Wednesday on the show, I play the theme Da da da d Okay, it's time for think Fast.

Jenny's hosting. Jenny's like, no, you're hosting. I'm like, I am. I missed it in our show notes, so I didn't have one written because we write those ourselves. So I open up the notesapp on my phone. I searched for think fast and it came up with a Thanksgiving thin Fast. So a couple of days ago we did Thanksgiving theme think Fast in January. I was cracking up when Jenny or Drake would say, well, what word did you have in mind? And Day would say, I

don't know. I wrote it four months ago. L O l O l O l ol. Jenny said gravy is not a side, then tried to use Ranch as a side for a name. I did name aside that starts with R. Make it makes sense. By the way, Rolls was the correct dancer, not Ranch Dah. Thanks for the laughs, Happy Junior Friday Eve. Get it because Saturday is Friday Junior and today is the eve of that day. Anyway, Bye, Nicole, Nicole. If you don't have a staff writer sticker, you deserve one. Make sure you send me your

name and email at our mailing address so I can do that one. Okay, this is one we're going to talk about. I think, uh oh, never mind. Okay, here we go. This is from Rnita. Rinita is a longtime listener, and she just said don't She said, don't say my name. But if you did, it's already good. I married my safe choice. We talked about whether we tend to gravitate toward a safe choice. There may be a little bit more boring. They're not as dynamite

in the bedroom, they don't have the interesting hobbies. You don't always have fun wherever you go with them, but they're safe. I was very tempted to call off my wedding because I was so hung up on an ex boyfriend who would have been my not so safe choice. Fast forward twelve years and this guy, the not so safe choice, became a convicted pedophile. Oh no, WHOA. I also got divorced that year. Apparently my safe choice

was still never the right choice. I am now married to my soulmate, who I would have not considered a safe choice in the beginning, but we are so very much in love and our careers of skyrocket over the past twelve years. So super safe now. That's all II from Rinita. Thanks Rinita. What makes a relationship feel safe? They don't have any bad habits, they don't drink too much. They're predictable, sometimes a little too predictable. Like I come home every day, I know Susan's going to be on the

couch playing on her phone. Not every day, but a little too Like I went out to play cribbage last night. I came home. There she was on her phone on the couch. Yeah, a little bit too predictable. Sometimes I'm scared I'm a safe choice for Andrew then, because I'm the one who's You're not though you do a lot of stuff, Yeah, I guess. But during the week I am not as social as I used to be. I mean mostly in the winter. In the summertime, I definitely

get outside a little bit more, like play kickball and stuff. But I do think about the fact that Andrew always knows my schedule during the week. I never know what he's up to because his schedule's all over the place half the time. But it's like he knew I would be sitting on the couch when he got home last night, because what else was I going to be doing. But you are an interesting person. You do a lot of fitness stuff. Yeah, go snowboard, you go out socially, You're an interesting

person. And I think that Susan and I are both boring to each other a little bit too frequently, Like this weekend, we have no plans. Yeah, and I get tired of having no plans. So I'm gonna go play cribbage with my friend Melanie tomorrow. And I went played cribbage with my friend Wendy last night. And people go, why do you have all women friends? I'm like, I don't. I've got Curtis and I've got Nate, but I do probably have more women friends. And I don't know,

Maybe I just get along here with women. Yeah, I don't know. Some people are like that. I'm like the girl at your office that has more guy friends. Oh, we all hate her. I'm just kidd anything. But she's not banging them, She's just hang She's one of the dude, maybe I'm one of the girls. I'm kidding, because when I was single, I had I still have really good guy friends. But it's like, I just don't hang out with as many people like now that I'm in

a relationship. But when I was single, I had so many, like guy friends. I'd just go grab a drink with every once in a while and whatever. And it was very much platonic regards of what people think, whether like you think, yeah, whether they can think that you can have a platonic relationship of someone you could be attracted to. But no, I have a lot of guy friends too. Next one from Kelly Jenny, was Andrew your previous relationship, that your heart broken? That that was your heart

broken that you would mention sometimes before you reconnected. Was he your heartbroken? One way? Yes? Next one, I couldn't care less. Why do they call it a near miss when it should be a near hit? That's true. This phrase is often used when referring to almost getting in some sort of an accident. It was a near miss, it should be called the near hit. I've never thought about that. Oh you're right, Kelly. You to serve a staff writer. Sticker send me your mailing address. Last

one from Kelly. It says medical insurance and cost to the staff writer that wrote in a high medical costs Amen's sister, I see medical insurance, especially state insurance, get abused daily birth control. People get an IUD and want something different after am month when it's good for five to ten years. Now they want an explanation instead of or vice versa. Oh no, next plan. What explan on is the what is that? I don't know what that

is? That's what I have. Nextllent on is the implant in your arm? Okay, Now a couple of weeks weeks later, they decide they do like an IUD better, so let's put another one of those in and take out this implant. It's expensive, but they don't have to pay for it because insurance covers it. All. Well, somebody is paying for it. Same with prescriptions for over the counter medicine. Can I get a prescription so

I don't have to pay for it? Hashtag me too. I'm not sure why she put the me too in there, but okay, I'm confused. She's saying that people are using the system, the healthcare system. Yep, oh absolutely, yeah, people have figured out a way to work it. God, yeah, I would love someone to tell me how to because I

have so much medical debts. Well I believe it. Well, I'm going to tell you somebody that I knew, And it really pissed me off because they were always crowing about what a wonderful, good person they were, and they were talking about how rich people should pay more taxes and how they're so virtuous and it's blah blah blah, and they they always do the right thing. Then they got their girlfriend pregnant and they weren't married, and the pregnancy

wasn't covered. Somehow they lied and they pulled strings and they got her on the insurance by lying so they wouldn't have to pay this cheap motherfucker. It really pissed me off. They lied and cheated to get her on the insurance so it was covered. Yeah, because it was an uncovered pregnancy. They

would have had to pay out of pocket just because they weren't married. Because I know a couple that's not married and she's on her boyfriend's insurance, like she was able to get on his insurance because she owns her own business, so she doesn't have healthcare through her business or whatever reason, she was not on his insurance and they were younger, so they were like, what do

we need insurance for? Yeah, they did have the money for the pregnancy, but they spent it on their wedding instead, and I was just pissed. I was like, you sit and tell me how virtuous you are, yet you do shit like this, So what do you think? Okay, are we out of time? Yeah, we got a minute left. That sucks because we have so many more emails to get to. So we I mean, seriously, We've got another half a dozen emails to get to and I'm really bummed. But we'll get to him next week. So thanks to

Emily and Andrew and Nikki and Alyssa and Becky and Jody. Will try to get your emails next week. Thanks for writing to the Minnesota Goodbye. Send that email to Ryan's show at KDWB dot com. Bring up a new topic or you know, reflect on something we brought up on the show and we'd appreciate it. Thanks for listening. Have a great weekend.
