Pardon me, I'm not quite myself. I'm a heart attack survivor what I've always wanted to be. Hey, I'm John Caldera in for Dan. Yeah, two weeks ago yesterday I had a heart attack. So listening to that little PSA about I'm having a stroke,
and now I'm listening to that a little bit more intently. So quick story, because you might find it useful, you might find it boring. I don't know. I woke up to that Tuesday and I didn't feel right. But I don't feel right a lot. Oddly, my teeth were kind of sore. You know when you were a kid and you had braces and they tightened the braces and I, ah kind of had that feeling. Now
I was having a funny feeling in my chest. I figured I needed to eat something, because good God, if anything's wrong, just eat something. I'm Italian, that's just basic. So I decide I'm going to work, and I have a little little protein bar or something with me, and I'm going down and I'm on US thirty six heading into Denver. I work at the Independence Institute close to the Capitol, and I'm driving down and my chest
feels weirder and weirder and weirder. It feels like there's this pressure on the inside. No, I didn't have a pain in my arm. No, my cholesterol when I've had it checked in years past, and I do it about once a year, wasn't great. But it wasn't bad at all. And it gets worse. I call my brother and I say, I think I'm having a panic attack. Is this what a panic attack feels like? Because I don't like it, said, it's probably not a heart attack,
that's and I said, just stay in the line with me. And he stayed on the line with me, and it was getting worse, and he kept talking to me, making sure I wasn't dead yet. And I had to get to the office because I was giving a zoom presentation to a group, so I needed to be on the computer and need to be on camera because I'm presenting something to people that I said I would present something to and I was like, I think, I'm just going to go to work.
I mean, I feel weird and I probably should get it checked. But if it still hurts, I'll get a checked later. My brother came up with a brilliant thought. He said, why don't you go to the hospital and just sit in the waiting room. You don't have to admit yourself to the hospital in order to do anything. You can just sit there. You can do your zoom call from there, and you look badass. I'm in pain. I'm doing this from the emergency waiting room. I thought that was
brilliant. So I drive to Denver Health. Why Denver Health, I don't know. You know, maybe I should have gone to Saint Joseph, which is close to work. But basically because I turned right to go to Denver Health instead of left to get to my office when I'm downtown, close to the capitol, I'm still alive from that one little decision. So I go in, sit down, and then I thought, screw it, I'm just going to go into the emergency room. Have to go through security to get
into the emergency room. Why, Because it's Denver General. It's where all the meth heads and homeless hang out, so I go in. I have to wait and wait and give the girl my driver's license and insurance card. They said, an insurance card. We don't see many of those around here. No, I made that up. And I check in. I say, I'm having chest pain. A woman taps a bunch of stuff on a computer screen says, go over there, sit down, we'll test your vitals.
I go over. I sit down. She walks over, takes my blood pressure and says, and I quote, oh, I don't like that. They then rush me into a room inside the er where some big tattooed guy emt slaps a bunch of wires on me to do an e KG electro cardiogram. I think that's what it is. And he looks at the piece of paper and goes, I don't like that. He said, no, it looks good. But this little thing here, I've been doing this for
decades and that just that just makes me think something is going on. These are the kind of things you just want to hear in an emergency room. By the way, they bring me to yet another room. Then they bring the X ray machine in, take a picture of my heart, suck out a whole bunch of blood. A poor guy who took out the blood he and put an ivy line in and he was filling blood from one vial to another, and something happened and he spilled it, and blood just went all
over the wall and all over itself and looks like a murder scene. Anyway. They show it to a doctor and then they say, oh, we want to bring up to the cath lab, but there's the patient there now, so I'll have to wait a little bit. Like, Okay, I don't know what a cath lab is, but at this point I'm just letting you at it. Well, it stands for cather lab. So they wheel me upstairs and then into this room that looked very much like sick Bay from
Star Trek. There's a table in the middle and there's like fifteen people running around doing lots of stuff. I fortunately the great people pushed me up there said now you're gonna see people running around doing a lot of stuff. It's what they do. Thanks. I'm laying there. They lift me onto the table and then a guy starts shaving my crotch, to which I said, I didn't order a Brazilian and they all laugh and I say, you know, but if if what's left over looks like a Hitler mustache, I'm gonna
find you. And then, and only then did I think, wait a second, I should ask this question. Excuse me, guy shaving my crotch? Why are you shaving my crotch? My heart is up here. It's that what it feels like to be a woman. My eyes are up here, so my heart is up here. My brains are down there. My heart is up here. And he said, well, we're gonna have to put a catheter in you. And if we can't get it through your arm, we've got to go through the blankety blank vein in your crotch. Great,
great, just just what, just what I wanted. He let's just say a little freaked out. I tell the doctor you know, I'm am I gonna die? He said, I doubt it. And then I said, am I gonna die? He said, no, You're not gonna die, but they gotta be careful. Of course, if I die, it's not like I'll be able to testify against him. He said I wouldn't die. And he said, well, you know, I think I'm gonna freak out pretty soon. He said, oh, who can take care of that?
And then he said, yeah, let's get the freak out drugs in them. And and I woke up apparently a couple hours later and in the ICU, and I find out after they finally come in and talked to me, I felt great, it's amazing. After I woke up and it's like, oh, yeah, all better, Oh chess doesn't hurt. Thanks guys. All right, I gotta go. I gotta get things done at work. They tell me, well, you had a heart attack, and we put a stint in, like, well, those are interesting things that I
really don't know much about, and they explained it to me. And basically, if I had gone to work, I we either would have had a lot of heart damage or I just dropped dead. So very rarely do I make the right call, very rarely, but in this instance, I made the right call, and you have to put up with me. Now. I had a ninety percent blockage in what's known as the widow maker artery, which goes around your heart and it brings blood to the muscles in your heart.
They said, I didn't have much damage, but ye, nevertheless, you're gonna stay in the ICU for two days. But I don't want to stay. I don't care if you want to stay. So it's odd I'm now on you know, five hundred different rugs, But I feel so much better, isn't it crazy? When your heart gets the blood it needs, you feel a little better. All of which to say, dudes, don't be like a usual guy and you know, just walk it off, because that's what I was gonna do. It's like, I'll just walk it off
because it's better than going to the doctor. Anything is better than going to the doctor. God, I hate going to the doctor. You know that every man hates going to the doctor. It's innate. It's the waiting. It's the waiting. It's the waiting. It's the waiting, and then it's the word more. Basically, it's well, we did this, but we're gonna have you come back for a follow up, and we're gonna have to go over there for a biopsy, and we're gonna bring you over there for
a specialist. And each time you go you have to wait more, and it just cascades into well, a heart attack. So, as a reasonable guy, I thought I'd just wait till I had a heart attack to now go to those doctor's appointments. Three h three seven to one three, eight, two five five in for Dan Kaplis John keldera six thirty K how and now back to the Dan Kapliss Show podcast. So we don't have to go
down the heart attack route. Other than I am remarkably grateful, remarkably lucky, and remarkably lucky to live in a country where you go to an emergency room and they save your life. Oh my god. By the way, when you say I'm having chest pain, they they bump you to the front of the line because time is of the essence. So I've been saying I have chest pain every time I go to a restaurant. Hasn't worked quite as well, but I I'm gonna keep trying. Three h three seven one three
eight two five five. Let me jump into this. Will he drop out of the race? Yeah? I think you will. I think you will. I'm not certain. I'd say it's a little better than fifty percent. Understand He Biden, and he alone has to make that decision, which is a very pleasant way of saying, Jill Biden will make this decision. Will Jill Biden agreed for a hobby to leave well only when the pressure gets so bad that he has to so I think, I don't know, I speculate
on this. I think we're gonna see in the coming in the coming week or so, maybe two more and more people coming up with look what he did today, Look what he said today. Look, look look what it's gonna be. Oh, look what he stumbled on. And with everyone, he's going to get more pressure. So right now you have the first congressman and his party to say he needs to drop out. Uh fresh who is
the candidate on the third congressional said he needs to get out. So you're hearing more and more people from the Democratic side, and when that becomes a chorus, he'll get out, but not until then. It's kind of like when a football coach gets canned. The owner always gives him that vote of confidence before he gets canned. Well, we believe that Jimbo there is going to turn things around. We've got all faith and confidence that he's going to
be able to do that. Thank you, no more questions, And then a couple of games later when he doesn't, he gets canned. So the party binds supporters are all doing that the vote of confidence. So Willie, I think, yes, here's one of the things that operatives do to keep the pressure building. When when there's a a leak, a press leak, some little outlet gets a story they shouldn't have gotten. It's not an accident. It's not an accident. It's somebody trying to get a story out.
Well, a little tiny news site called Puck News. Yes, I said, puck with a p got a tip off and got a got a post debate. Polling from a group called open Labs. Open Labs is a democratic messaging and polling firm that works with I believe one of the Biden packs, if not directly with the election. So, oh my goodness. Look they put out they put out a poll. What does it say. It says very clearly, after this, after this performance, his his popularity is dropping
like a stone. In fact, in the swing states, it looks like he's going to lose those swing states and therefore Trump is going to win. It even has and listen to this one, it even has Colorado still for Biden. Colorado is still for Biden. We're a very very very blue state. But the margin between Biden and Trump has narrowed to one point nine percent. That is within the margin of error of the of the poll. So by the way. I don't buy that. I don't buy it at all.
I think in a head to head Biden still wins by eight to twelve points here in Colorado, just just by the registration, just by the hatred of Trump. But by putting out this pole, it technically, and this is just one of a gazillion poles, puts Colorado squarely in a swing state. The same pole had before the debate, Colorado going for Biden by three point seven percent. Interesting, so that all that got cut in half, his lead got cut in half in Colorado. Whatever the lead was, imagine
it getting cut in half in Colorado. Now play with this for a second. What if Spock, what if this poll is accurate and Colorado is a swing state? Well, who's gonna win in Colorado? They asked these questions. Here's the answer, not just in Colorado, but nationally. The favorable unfavorables of the top Democrats that could replace him coming in number one is Pete Buddhajeedge, then Gretchen Whittemore Whittner, then Governor Newsom, then Kamala Harris,
then Biden. So there are four people above Biden who could be could be presidential contenders that could that could do better than Biden. One of the names they did in poll was Polis. I want to ask you about that? Three or three seven one three eight two five five. I'm John Caldera. Should pol Us run for president? Keep it here? Say thirty K. You're listening to the Dan Kaplis Show podcast. When I first heard the song, I thought it was the heart of rock and roll is in Topeka,
isn't it? Though? No it is not. It's in Detroit. It's in Detroit, I agree. Or maybe London? Yeah, London calling? Sure, Yeah, I'm John Caldarian for Dan. Give me a call. Three your three seven one three eight two five five. Got a few things on the text line. Not my heart attack. As you know, I called my brother. I was having my heart attack. He's curious. Did your brother ask where you kept your will? Now? John? When I was getting my skin checked, the doctor was looking at his spot and said,
oh, that's interesting. Not good. Yeah. Yeah. They took whit blood pressure and the word was I don't like that. All right. Let me get back to topic. The pressure is building for Biden to step aside. If he wants it to hold on, he can, but as the pressure mounts and mounts and mounts. It's gonna be tougher. A pole that was leaked shows that Colorado with Biden on the ticket is within two points of voting for Trump. Now, personally, I don't really think that's right,
but let's keep with it. Let's keep with it. Well, if Colorado were a swing state, Jared pol Is running for president would win Colorado. That is, Polis is a remarkably popular governor. He has twice purchased the governorship, last time with twenty percentage points over his arrival. Why is it we're not hearing his name? A year ago his name was everywhere as a potential presidential candidate. I asked him personally, so thinking about running?
And he said, nope, nope, nope, gonna be keeping this job, which is exactly what what a wise guy would say. And he's very smart. If he ran, he wouldn't have much time to do something. My strong suspicion is that if and maybe win, Biden drops out, Polis will not try to get those delegates. Polish will not run for president. Here's the thinking. He knows it's an uphill battle, even though he does
have a lot of money. It might take more than that, So should Biden drop out, he has something like two one hundred and sixty five million dollars in his war chest. From what I know, he cannot give that to another candidate. That money was raised for the Biden Harris ticket. If Harris becomes the the nominee will lo and behold, she gets to use that money, if not any of the other folks. They have to raise it. Gavin Newsom is very good at raising money. He could raise money quickly,
was it? JB. Pritzker, Governor of New Jersey is worth something like three point six billion dollars. He could finance it himself. What's a quarter of a million dollars to this guy? Here's what I think could happen. I really want you to weigh in on this. One three h three seven one three eight two five five seven to one three talk. I could see Jared Poulis as a VP candidate, perhaps under Kamala Harris, particularly if
Colorado becomes a swing state. Now it could be mutually beneficial if they need Colorado, and that would certainly deliver it, But it would be more beneficial for Jared should a Harris Polus ticket win. He's a heartbeat away, and as I've come to realize after my heart attack, heartbeat away is pretty darn close. But win. And if he loses and the ticket loses, well, that means Kamala lost, not the VP candidate. The VP candidate gets
to live to fight another day. And he I'm certain our governor is thinking very strongly about a presidential run in four years. That gives him plenty of time to work on it. What do you think three o three seven to one, three eight two five five seven to one three talk And why in the world isn't there any consideration of our governor as a possible replacement When a year ago he was all over the news, He was in Fox News and
a Wall Street Journal and Reason magazine. Oh good god. Even George Will wrote a puff piece about, oh, this is a different type of Democrat. Why is his name not being mentioned now just a year later. Here's my suspicion, because his name is not being mentioned because secrets are hard to keep. And up until recently, national press was buying the bogus story that our governor is some kind of libertarian ish democrat, pro business ish democrat.
And all the people who are saying so had won one thing in common. They were not from Colorado. They were from California or New York or other places where the spin is not easily checked. But what happens is actions speak louder than words. And the fact that no libertarian ish, business friendly ish
people in coloradogo, Oh yeah, he's a great governor. No, they all go, let's see their tax increases, fee increases, regulatory increases, energy price increases, gun law increases, putting oil and gas out of business, banning plastic straws, increasing the minimum wage, all the rest. It's hard. It's hard to run away from that record. That makes it very difficult for jareded Polis to play that, Oh I'm a libertarian. Listen,
Liking weed and bitcoin does not make you a libertarian. You cannot be libertarian small l or large l and love tax increases and taking away people's right to live their own life the way they like. That's that's his problem. The other part of it is his far left doesn't like him. As crazy socialist as he is, He's still not crazy socialistic enough for the crazy wing of
his party in Colorado. The crazy wing of his party took it on the chin on primary day when folks like Tim Hernandez and representative EPs lost their primaries. These were people who were so far out of the norm even the left didn't like it. All right, So help me out about this. Could you see Jared Polis running this year? We're working on the assumption that Biden in the next week or so drops out. If so, if so, could he win? Or do you see him looking for a VP slot?
Would it be wise if he did? I think it would be very wise for him to take the VP slot. It would make him a nationally known commodity, allowing him to run in four years three or three seven, one, three, eight, two, five five. I want to hear from you. Let me know. I'm John Caldera and for mister Caplis, keep it right here. Six point thirty k how and now back to the Dan Kaplis Show podcast. Why isn't Jared Polis being mentioned as a possible Biden replacement?
A year ago he was all over the news and the talk shows as people were saying, Oh, that cal that that Colorado guy, Oh he could be president. Let's go to the phones, Let's go to monument and talk to Joe. Joe. Good afternoon, you're with Caldera. Hey John, how you doing, brother Glad? It's your heart attack man? Me too, Me too. Yeah, i'd be talking to similar other schmuk insteady.
I'm a Jersey boy, Come on, I love it anyway. Anyway, I don't think Jared's gonna run or even take a seat assignment simply because he doesn't want to be associated with a loser. He has won everything he's ever done. I mean, like you said, he's purchased every job he's ever ahead. I don't think he wants to be associated if Kamala takes the money. I don't think he wants to be part of that, because she's still going to lose to Trump, and that's gonna be We don't know that.
We don't know that, all right, but that is not well liked reading the tea leagues. I'll go that, Rod. I still don't think he would want to be associated with that. I think he would love to speak at the convention and do what Baroccio and jump out that way into the national spotlight as the plan articulate white guy from Colorado who everybody loves but not really wow. So I just I don't think he wants it I don't think he wants to be up against Trump to be known as somebody that could have
lost to Trump in any way, shape or form. It's just not his pattern. Maybe, But think of this, Okay, if he if he runs as a VP candidate, Yeah, he gets he gets to be nationally when she loses, that's when she loses. He by default becomes one of the standard bearers for the Democratic Party nationwide. His name is there, he was, he was part of it. And it's not like he lost. She loses. Let's remember Carter Mondale lost in nineteen eighty and lo and behold.
Mondale easily won the nomination next time around. It's not it's not that losing that spot makes it impossible to get it. Yeah, if I were, if I were Hollis's advisor and Kamala calls and says, the President's going to drop out, I'll be running for president. I'd like you to be the VP candidate, I would be on it like a mini skirt. It would It would give a damnse a chance to now say that Trump is anti gay, anti woman, anti black. I mean, it's just one more
thing they could complain him with. Well, and also think of think of the identity politics checklist which must be taken in order to appease the left. You have a black woman of color, a woman of color, and a Jewish gay man. That would be an identity politics jubilee of a ticket. Yeah, and that's why they're worried about going with somebody else other than Kamala, because if they did, it would be seen as a as an insult to women and to people of color. Yeah. Well, I appreciate your
point of view. Glad you're doing well and can't wait to hear more from your play. Thank you so much, appreciate it. Three all three seven, one three eight two five five seven to one three talk? Is that? Is that? Oh? The right analysis? I think it is. I think it is. But here's the point. Polus only makes sense if Colorado is in play and they need these nine votes. My suspicion is they would go someplace else. Gretchen Whitmore, a woman well that that would check
a box, and a swing state Pritzler, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. They need that more than they need Colorado. That's what I think. Wow, So what is Polis? Why isn't his name out there? Every article lists the same you know, six people, but not polis A year ago, the Washington Post did an analysis and Polus was number three in that top ten likely to run for president, right after Pete Bodhaje Edge and Kamala Harris. Then it was polis So. A year ago he was third in line of
the most likely to run for president. Now he's not mentioned. Why do you think that is? Is it because he's hacked off his left and he's hacked off normal people? Do you think it's because people understand his record now and they can't hide the fact that he's he's a socialist, that he's no libertarian. Let me tell you being prowed and pro cryptocurrency does not make one a libertarian. And do you believe that after this debate Biden is only two
points ahead of Trump in Colorado? Let me call three oh three seven one three eight two five five seven to one three talk in for Dan Caplis, John Calderrek, keep it right here, six thirty k
