Episode description

Virtual beings are characters that you know aren't real but with whom you can build a 2-way emotional relationship. Nowadays, social media platforms are beginning to see the rise of virtual influencers, CGI generated humans that look completely human and getting major brand deals and paid endorsements. The biggest virtual influencer, Miquela Sousa, who has 1.6M Instagram followers, just landed a big Calvin Klein video ad campaign with Bella Hadid. However, many are deeming the ad unrealistic, even going as far as saying it's offensive for "queer-baiting" consumers since Bella is heterosexual and Miquela is well... a mass of pixels. What does this mean for real-life influencers and how are these virtual influencers going to affect society as a whole? Join me on today's episode to hear my take on the future of virtual influencers.
