Episode description

Psalm 4: A Call for Righteousness and Trust in the Lord - King James Version

In this episode, we delve into Psalm 4 from the King James Version of the Bible with a beautiful sound design and soundtrack. The passage expresses a plea to God for mercy and righteousness, highlighting the contrast between the godly and those who seek vanity. It reassures that the Lord sets apart the godly for Himself and will hear their prayers. The psalm encourages self-reflection, trust in the Lord, and the offering of righteous sacrifices. It concludes with a message of divine protection and peace, beautifully capturing the essence of reliance on God. Classical music pieces, like Felix Mendelssohn's compositions inspired by the Psalms, add a layer of profound serenity to the experience.

Introduction to Psalm 4

Psalm four

A Cry for Help and Mercy

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

Reflection on Human Vanity

O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.

The Lord's Assurance

But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Call to Righteousness and Trust

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord. There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

Concluding Prayer and Peace

Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.
