Hello and welcome to Daily English — Today’s expression is about choices — and accepting that we can’t always have everything we want. The expression is: “You can’t have it both ways.”
Imagine someone who wants freedom and stability — who wants to eat all the cake and stay healthy. Well… you can’t have it both ways.
What do you think it means?

 To not have it both ways means you can’t enjoy two opposite benefits at the same time — you must choose one.

Examples:

You can’t spend all your money and save it — you can’t have it both ways.


He wants to be respected and never take responsibility — you can’t have it both ways.


Life becomes easier when you accept that you can’t have it both ways.


 Maturity means making peace with choices —
 knowing that saying “yes” to one thing means saying “no” to another.
