Tight-knit

If a group is tight-knit, it means the people in that group are very close, emotionally connected, and strongly supportive of one another.
Examples:

1- Her family is so tight-knit that they have Sunday lunch together every week — even after everyone moved out.
2- The village in southern France was a tight-knit community where everyone knew everyone’s story.

Hello and welcome back to Daily English, where we grow our vocabulary one meaningful word at a time. Today’s word is: tight-knit. Let’s say it together: tight-knit.

Let’s see if you can guess what it means from these clues:  A family that talks every day, supports each other, and never misses birthdays. A small town where neighbors help each other during hard times. Or A group of friends who’ve been through everything together — and are still there, no matter what. Can you feel it already?

What does tight-knit mean? If a group is tight-knit, it means the people in that group are very close, emotionally connected, and strongly supportive of one another.
It’s often used for families, communities, teams, or even groups of coworkers or classmates. The word “tight” shows how close they are, and “knit” gives the image of threads woven together — strong and united.

Examples: Her family is so tight-knit that they have Sunday lunch together every week — even after everyone moved out.
The village in southern France was a tight-knit community where everyone knew everyone’s story.
After spending a year volunteering abroad, the team became a tight-knit group that still keeps in touch every week.
Your Turn Do you come from a tight-knit family or community? Or maybe you've found one later in life — in a workplace, a class, or a group of friends?
